Arrived on Friday and planned to get a GF cinnamon roll from here before leaving Sunday, not realizing it is only open Tuesday thru Saturday wahhhhhhhhh. But I was able to get a Nece's chocolate chip muffin at Captain & Stoker in town, and it was delish. Great texture, super big, very enjoyable. Where to start? Nece's GF is incredible!! We have tried everything from their sandwiches, cake slices, cheesecake slices, cookies, brownies, pretzels, to their ham and cheese wheels. This is a mandatory stop for us whenever we're in Monterey. The front of house staff are lovely to interact with, so knowledgeable, and so caring for all of your baked goods. My husband has a chocolate allergy and Nece's staff was so careful to separate out all of the non-chocolate items from the chocolate items. The extra step to show this level of care did not go unnoticed and FOH staff did this without us needing to ask. As someone who was recently told they can't have gluten, this place is like finding the light at the end of a dark tunnel. I visit Monterey maybe once a year, and I make it a point to get my gluten free baking fix at least once while I'm in town. The cheddar jalapeño scone is to die for - tender and bouncy and just the right amount of cheese and peppers. How do they even do this?? I guess lots of people are in the know, though, because they mostly sell out before 10am. So get there early! The muffins are perfectly textured too- none of the gritty or mushy feel you get with so many gluten free baked goods - just tender crumb in lots of flavors. I tried the sugar cookie and the salt pretzel this time around too. The cookie had a delicious buttery flavor and was soft but not overly crumbly- the closest I've seen to what I remember of a traditional sugar cookie. The salt pretzel was really hard until I microwaved it for 30 seconds, then it softened up really nicely. Listen, if you're gluten free, just go there. You will not be sorry. read more

Literally my favorite spot. I've been gluten free for 14 years, so when Nece's popped up I was floored. Both sweet and savory, and a small coffee menu. Cookies are delicious, bread loaves freeze wonderfully, and the sandwiches?? To die for. I try to swing by for a "sconewich" whenever I'm out of the house before 11am (they run out quickly!!). The cakes are veryyyyyyyyy sweet, which isn't for me but that's personal preference. Staff is always super kind, and even given the Christian atmosphere, I've never been proselytized to, which is nice (esp as a visibly queer individual). Nece's is great! My wife and I dropped in today for the first time today. The atmosphere is pleasant, clean and the staff is welcoming. There is a nice variety of options to pick from as well. We tried, the cinnamon roll which was delicious and have great texture. We also tried a sugar cookie which was also really great.
