We absolutely love this place. Everything is always hot, fresh and delicious. To be honest it is probably one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area in my opinion. Prices are very fair and reasonable especially the lunch/dinner specials. Service is always super friendly and one of the guys remembers our order by heart even though we don't come super often! The inside is clean and they play very mellow music. It's an awesome spot for lunch on a weekday! Definitely worth trying if you are in the area. read more

Hot and sour soup was like eating a chopped salad. The vegetables were so finely chopped. They were hard to see. It had no mushrooms, pork or egg in it. The sweet-and-sour combo the sauce was OK, but the meats were cooked in an old oil did not taste good at all. I was trying he's trying to end one more time before I gave up completely on him. There used to be a thriving middle class of Chinese restaurants that served hearty, well-done Americanized Chinese food alongside pots of jasmine tea. You know what I'm talking about: the place that's better than the grimy $5 takeout spot with fluorescent lights, but not as hoity-toity as that upscale Szechuan spot. I feel like that type of place has vanished about as quickly and thoroughly as the American middle class. Politics aside, East China Inn in downtown Batavia is a throwback to the glory days. It's in a 1970s stripmall and serves great food. The vegetable egg roll ($3.15 for two) was phenomenal. It's a weird thing to say about egg rolls, but most of the time they're tightly-wrapped, mushy-filled starch bombs that were reheated in a microwave. But not here. These egg rolls are big, hand-made with a beautifully-layered wrapper and Chinese 5-spice-seasoned innards. I loved it. The kung bao beancurd ($5.15 for a small; $8 for a large) has a light, savory sauce and nicely-fried tofu. The peanuts, baby corn, bell pepper and mushroom provided a medley of flavors, textures and colors. Next time I'll ask them to skip the celery, but this dish was otherwise excellent. Cant recommend any more 2/4/23 the portion size is much smaller in Comparision to about 6 months ago +/- I know we will not be going back any time soon the food was ok but the prices have gone up and the portion size we received in the past is not worth spending your money on. The wife and I decided to try another restaurant near us to see if any other place is better. Honestly, I am not impressed with the food Not sure if it affects the food or they treat it different but I ordered with a 3rd party delivery app. The based on the tracking, my food was delivered straight and right away. I ordered two things... Veggie Lo Mein. Flavor was good. Sauce has a good balance of flavor but also tasted a little beefy. I wanted Beef Lo Mein but for some reason, I couldn't order it. Veggies had a good crunch and lasted as fresh as if can be My biggest complaint is the Sweet and Sour shrimp. The shrimp was butterflyed but it was completely coated in batter. It was ~80% batter and 20% shrimp. That was a little disappointed. However, the worse was the rice. It was the chewiest rice I have ever encountered. I couldn't even mash it between my fingers, it was that bad Overall, I was not impressed with this place and I doubt my picky wife will want to return either. read more

Went here for Mother's Day lunch with the mother in law. The food was good, but not quite what was ordered. The wife ordered sczwechwan tofu and got buddha's delight. I ordered Hot China. It had too many water chestnuts but was otherwise tasty. The MIL ordered sczwechwan shrimp which was good. Mystery ingredients appeared in all the food. That doesn't mean it was bad, but consistency is an issue. Service was excellent. read more

Sadly and understandably the lunch special is not as good a deal as it used to be. It's still a nice option though. The menu has not changed and the food has remained consistently good over the years. I still like the sweet and sour pork, Hunan Beef, Mongolian Beef and egg rolls. Over the years though I have discovered other items. I also especially like the sizzling rice soup, Cho Cho beef sticks, and wonton appetizer. If you get the sweet and sour I recommend getting the sauce on the side unless you like it drenched in sauce. It's okay. The staff is very friendly and that's why we gave them a second chance. First, what we tried: Crab Rangoons Egg rolls Egg Drop Soup Sesame Chicken Szechwan Chicken Orange Chicken I love the complex flavors of Chinese food but this didn't have any of that. I even had to ask the waiter to confirm my order. Many of the meals taste identical. What was worse is that the egg rolls taste like they were heated from frozen. I work nearby and used to order delivery or pick up frequently. No more. You can order the same dish here every day of the week and every time you'd swear it was cooked by someone else. Most of the time, the meat is tough and dry. To say it's salty would have been an understatement. You'd hope you can at least get some decent fried rice. No. It's literally just rice, covered in grease with zero vegetables. They tell you it's chicken fried rice but I literally want to send this "chicken" to a lab for testing. We ordered Mushu pork which was delicious. However, all four of our wraps each had a couple of blue mold spots on them. (We used our own) The eggrolls are excellent. The house fried rice was generous with the meat. The dumplings were good but the dough was a little thick. read more

Hands down the best Mongolian Chicken I've ever been able to find, and I've ordered it at every chinese restaurant I've ever been to... Which is a rather large number... I don't have that many favorite foods/dishes that I can think of off the top of my head but this is certainly one of them. My girlfriend has to be getting sick of me insisting on ordering it elsewhere every time we eat chinese because we are always left disappointed. The Lunch Special until 3 oclock is near impossible to beat. Huge portions, great food, classic chinese restaurant vibes. I'm Chinese and I grew up eating Chinese food. this is probably the "better" of the Chinese restaurants in the area. At least you can find some Mapo tofu on the menu and Singapore fried noodles. Howeverr, still disappointing that I can't find any bok choy, gai lan or choy sum anywhere this way. The veggies still remain as the boring selection of broccolli and bean sprouts and mushrooms. This is another location I tired they have I think 4 or 5 other East China Inns. All the food is consistent but the staff and service are all different. I normally go to the north Aurora location since that's what I'm familiar with. If you check in on Yelp here you receive 10% off your total order. The cashier at the time had broken English and did not know how to apply the discount needless to say it was funny how the manager showed him and in the background speaking Cantonese to him. We will NOT eat at or order from East China Inn in Batavia again. We just ate there and it was cold and drafty, yet a fly was buzzing around our table the whole time. They were obviously ignoring it. The music they had playing was staticky elevator music. Their food leaves something to be desired, but since it was expensive, we asked for a plastic takeout container to take home the leftovers. The waitress brought out the little Chinese cardboard boxes instead. I requested the plastic again because we wouldn't be eating it again for a few days. Definitely East China Inn is one of our two favorite Chinese restaurants in the area. They will make any chicken dish unbreaded, if you ask. The shrimp fried rice, chicken egg foo young, steamed pot stickers, and sweet and sour chicken are our usual dishes. All very good!! Yummy comfort food! read more

I don't know how this place gets such great reviews. I used to love this place as kid but it's terrible now. No wonder the dining room was empty at 7:30 on a Friday night. I had the General Tso's chicken. First of all it was just chicken, no broccoli or any other veggies. The chicken itself was mostly breading and a lot of gristly pieces. I'm Chinese and this place was disappointing. I went with my brother after a biking trip and we were starving and this was the only Chinese restaurant around Batavia. We ordered three dishes (common dishes like mongolian beef) and the taste simply wasn't up to par. There was no Asian (let alone Chinese) in the restaurant on a busy Saturday night so that probably tells you something. We were the only Chinese in the restaurant and had to ask for chopsticks. Then again, there aren't many Asians in Batavia so that probably doesn't mean much. But the menu is clearly very Americanized. However, even for a Chinese American place, this isn't one of the better choices. I'd suggest Wang's Garden (also in Batavia) over this place. On the bright side, the portions are large and we managed to finish it all, but only because we were starving. read more
