It's hard to find a good Thai spot. Some places are too greasy, some just don't do it well, but this was my favorite Thai I've had in Illinois thus far! The owner and staff are so friendly, it's contagious. The red curry is perfectly seasoned with lots of vegetables. The pad thai wasn't too oily and was generous with shrimp. The mango sticky rice was the perfect texture. The only thing was, the egg roll was much too greasy it was almost inedible for me. Tusk is a cherished restaurant for my brother and his family so I have had their food in take out form a couple of times before but back in January was the first time I dined in at the restaurant. It's a cozy byob spot with a large menu offering a variety of Thai dishes. We had a big group of 10 people that my brother called ahead for and I have to say that I was pretty surprised they were able to accommodate us on a Friday night given how busy it was throughout our time there. The staff was on it all night so the service was very smooth from appetizers all the way to dessert. I was happy to be able to go with such a large group as we got to sample a bunch of things. For appetizers alone we shared orders of summer rolls, chicken satay, potstickers, money bags, gyo, cucumber salad and the lettuce wraps. For an entree I ordered the Koong Kra Tiem which came with big jumbo shrimp and was really savory. The steamed vegetables were a little bland but wiping up the extra sauce from the shrimp fixed that. Other notable dishes were the basil beef stir fry my dad got and the Green Fire chicken and Thai fried rice my brothers ordered. I really appreciate what Tusk offers in terms of food but what has made them stand out is their commitment to service and how kind they are. Stopped in n for dinner on a Saturday evening. This is a smaller venue, but we were able to be seated right away. The service was prompt, attentive and friendly and not overbearing or intrusive. While we were waiting for food I had a good view of the door and they do lots of take out orders and the staff seem to know most of the people coming in for the take out orders. We ordered the Thai eggs rolls, lemongrass beef, drunken noodles, and mango sticky rice. All of the food was great! The eggs rolls came out hot and crispy. The dippy sauce was very good. TLDR: good food but environment needs some work. Location is super convenient being right next to the parking garage. However, the sign is a little run down and inside was much smaller than I expected. I came for lunch on a Thursday and there were only two other small groups there. They had a special menu for lunch which had limited options. I tried the chicken panang curry which came with spring rolls. The spring rolls were alright. The curry was good though! Not sure if the portion was smaller since it was lunch but it was just right for one person (no leftovers). The spice level was also perfect - a tad spicy but doable. Five stars for food, service, cleanliness, ambiance! Asian restaurants are rarely so friendly. The location is in quaint, vintage downtown Batavia by the river, with brick road and sidewalk. I brought my two grandkids (5 & 9 y/o) who do not like spicy food. They ordered the dumpling soup, Thai egg rolls, money buckets, pot stickers and rice. All non-spicy and all demolished! I got the Cashew entree with shrimp, loaded with veggies and mildly spicy. So delicious. For dessert we shared a Lava cake which the kids talked about all the way home. Superb! I was in here for lunch today with an account that I do business with- but they have become good friends and I value their opinions and advice tremendously. We are famous for going out to lunch once or twice a month- I drive out to Batavia from downtown and it is completely worth it because of the company and, in this case....the food. Tusk offers a lunch menu that is suitable for folks on the go who need to get something tasty to eat in a hurry. It's not a very large restaurant, but as most Thai places you can get in and out of there in a hurry. We were greeted warmly as we came in today- the guys clearly come often. I'm going to be honest- I am usually just a simple guy when it comes to Thai. (sorry for the rhyme, it was unintentional) I order the Pad See Ew with either beef or chicken, which is a rice noodle dish with sweetened soy sauce and has broccoli in it so I feel like I'm getting some veggies. I also look to try Tom Yum soup everywhere I go because if it's good, it's really good- but when it's not good- it's still pretty good. My group ordered the chive dumplings- which is a thicker version of scallion pancakes in Chinese restaurants. Pan fried and comes in pairs per order. We also had the "money bags" which also was fried but was these morsels of goodness that couldn't be ignored. Not too much filling, but the texture and crunch cannot be denied! A nice way to begin the meal! The Tom Yum soup here was delicious- a hint of spice, lots of lime juice for acidity. I am not a fan of mushrooms and they accommodated me with EXACTLY what I wanted- just broth and some chicken (option for shrimp also) in the bowl. Ignoring any manners, I ended up picking up the bowl and forgoing the soup spoon once the chicken pieces were gone. I'm going to admit- as soon as the soup was gone I ordered as much as they would let me take home with me without running out for the day. Just broth. I could drink it for breakfast, lunch, a mid evening snack. It's that good. Our entrees came right as I was finishing up the soup. I called an audible and went with the Peanut Noodles Saute with beef and it is very much like a lo mein with beautifully cut vegetables (I am serious, the carrots looked like they came from a museum of how to cut things fancy chef- esque). I love peanut sauce, and this didn't have much heat but I bet it would be great with a little spice added to it. I didn't finish my entree because I had so much soup so I took it all home so I can have another full meal from Tusk later this weekend at my home in Chicago. The pricing is fair, I consider it reasonable and for the value you do get plenty of food. I warned the person who I believe was the owner that I would call ahead next time to order a gallon of their broth next visit. Worth a stop- there is a free parking garage across the street from the restaurant and also some street parking so you should be ok. Enjoy!!! Most Thai places in the city seem like they are just pumping out volume vs. quality food in my opinion. This place made me feel like I was supporting small business ownership and a family that was proud to share their recipes with people who are willing to try new things. We dined inside here. First impressions I was a little sketchy by the interior, BUT the food was amazing and the staff was very friendly! We had drunken noodles, pad soon seen, and pine apple friend rice. All extremely good and a fair price! One thing to not is they do not have alcohol, but you can bring your own apparently! My go-to for Thai, service and atmosphere is excellent, Thai Fire is an amazing dish but spicy, you can adjust the heat levels, Tom Kha is a must try, Very flavorful and you can order with Tofu or choices of meat, you can also adjust heat level but have to ask, I always ask for extra spicy, it's not spicy at all unless you request it. We have not eaten in since 2018, so can't speak to the restaurant experience, but the takeout system is a well-oiled machine. The drunken noodles were very spicy and delicious. The pad Thai was was So delicious but it could have needed more peanuts and eggs on it. The blue lemonade was very tasteful. The green curry and the red. curry were very delicious best I ever had. I loved the red was more flavorful for my taste. They would wait a few seconds to see if I was going to chat them up, but I play online UNO when I'm dining alone, so I don't always WANT to chat. The ambiance was okay. It is a small dining room on a corner of Water St. in Batavia, which is a busy area. It reminds me of dining in a small restaurant in Chicago proper. The food was pretty delicious, but I honestly have had better. I wanted to give them a try, and I did, but I don't think I'll be back unless a friend suggests it. I tried the veggie spring rolls which are supposed to be in rice wrap, but it really tasted like flour tortilla wrap. What has happened to their customer service? :( I have been to this place many times and really enjoy their food. The byob is a plus. I was so excited to finally be able to bring my boyfriend. We arrived at 8:20 on a Tuesday. The website said they closed at 9:00. As soon as we walked in the door, the host looked at the clock and said is this for takeout because we close soon. I said your website said you close at 9. Yes, he said, but kitchen closes at 8:30. You order in 5 minutes? I said yes, we can order in 5 minutes. Ordered an appetizer the minute he brought our menus. Ordered our food at 8:30. Finished eating and by 8:55 had the check paid and was out the door. No wonder stomach was so upset all night. Never had a minute to enjoy my meal. If you want to make sure your kitchen closes at 8:30, state that on your website. Please don't make a repeat customer feel like an intrusion 40 minutes before you close. I was fine with it. Service was fast and friendly. Prices were very reasonable and the food was good. Siam Sampler for 4 $16 - A sampler of summer roll, money bag, wraps, gyo, and coconut shrimp. The wraps were my favorite out of this bunch and the rest were decent. Chive Dumpling $6 - I was a little disappointed with these. The outside was nice and crispy, but the rest was mushy and tasteless. I felt like the chives were overdone, too. Pad Woon Sen with pork $10 - This was delicious! There was a street smoky flavor to it that reminded me of Thailand. Three Flavored Fish $14.95 - Deep-fried red snapper fillet topped with an exotic Thai sauce. I'm so glad to say that our second visit to Tusk was just as great as the first. The efficient, welcoming staff is such an asset, and the food is excellent. This time it was just my boyfriend and me; he had the panang curry noodles (thick fried noodles in a red curry sauce with beef and an array of veggies; he said he wished he had some bread to sop up every drop of the sauce! I don't normally even like curry but I had a bite and really liked it) and the Samsahai for me (a seafood stew that his mom got the first time and had looked appealing then). We also ordered the chive dumplings for an appetizer, crispy pan-seared wonton pockets filled with chives and served with a delicious sweet chile-soy sauce (even after the dumplings were gone, it was tempting to eat the sauce by the spoonful). Again, the restaurant is small, so get there early if you want to be assured a table without a wait. It's a cozy spot with a great atmosphere and food; I want to trumpet the talents of Tusk far and wide! If you're in the mood for Thai, this is the place in the Western 'burbs. read more

I love Tusk Thai. They have some really great items on the menu. I've never had a bad meal here. Last time I went for lunch and had the lunch special - I think its around $10. For lunch the portions are great. At dinner, the portions are a little small. One dish is usually not enough for me and I don't eat all that much. At most places, portions are to large for me. Great food, been coming here for years for take-out and eat in. Moneybags are fantastic and the crab rangoons have perfect ratio of wrapper to filling. Only drawback (losing one star on my review) is that I ordered takeout tonight and while I definitely said yellow curry on the phone, I took a bite when I got home and there was unexpected pineapple in my curry. I remember reading the menu and seeing there were technically two yellow curries on the menu; the one I seem to have received is the "Mussamon" dish and not the standard yellow curry I usually get. All okay with me, still tastes great if that's what you're expecting to get. I just picked out the pineapple but would be cause for concern for someone with an allergy.
