    wonton and beef noodle soup
    jessica l.

I came at 1pm on a saturday and it was pretty busy. Luckily a table opened up a few minutes after we came in. The restaurant is pretty small but it's very clean and the staff is nice. The beef and wonton noodle soup was yummy -- the beef was tender, wontons were full of meat, and the noodles weren't too soggy. The broth was also very flavorful yet light. It is cash/zelle only, but pretty affordable (it was 13.95!)

BLUF: Small Hong Kong restaurant with limited seating specializing in wontons, dumplings and lo men. Cash only but takes zelle. Came here a little after 1pm on a Saturday but the place was still full of people; was seated after a short couple minute wait. Ordered the wonton & dumpling appetizer as well as the stew beef lo men with wonton combo. Starting off with the wontons and dumplings, while the meat inside was generous, it just wasn't to my taste. I prefer my wonton/dumpling soup savory but it was just too sweet. While it didn't taste bad, it just didn't hit the spot. The dumplings were interesting, not your typical filling. I bit one in half and it had shrimp, pork, huge slice of bamboo shoot and a slice of mushroom, definitely not what I was expecting. Again, not to my taste but bang for buck, the portion size and meat inside the filling was very generous. As for the lo men, it was a bit too saucy for my taste. While it wasn't overly salty, just felt a little overwhelmed by the amount of sauce for the noodles. However, texture of the noodles were perfect, would be open to trying a different one of their lo men since noodle texture is something I value a lot.

Saigon Corner is more Chinese than Vietnamese, and it isn't on a corner. But service was friendly, and they let me use their not for the public bathroom when I really needed to go (but I can see why it isn't convenient to share with the public as a rule). Family and friends love their beef stew, wonton, and dumplings. I could see why as there were whole shrimp in the meat filling I spied on the table being folded into the wontons being freshly wrapped. But for my first visit, I was hankering Hong Kong Cafe style food and ordered the baked tomato sauce pork chop rice dish for $15 cash, to go. It came with a spoon and chopsticks, and I ate a good 2/3 of it. The rice was stir fried with egg. I prefer more cheese on my tomato sauce, but it was still tasty and tummy warming. I made it back here with family on another visit, and we were happily stuffed with one order of beef stew & wonton noodle soup apiece, and a shared order of their fried dumplings. Yum!

Interior is small but clean and looks recently remodeled. They mainly speak Cantonese so communication was a bit tough but the menu has English on it with pictures. Server came quickly but we weren't ready cuz of all the options on the menu but she came back twice and we put in our order then. Food came hot and fresh, the wontons were filled with pork and shrimp and the dumplings had mushroom and bamboo shoots in addition to pork/shrimp. Soup is slightly sweet like all wonton soups but I would prefer it to be more salty. There's a cash only sign but also a zelle QR code in case you didn't bring cash like me!

Delicious wonton soup! This place is the best as the egg noodle is not mushy, they cook it perfectly so that it still holds a bit of a chew/crunch. Wontons have big chunks of shrimp. A bit on the sweeter side but still delicious. Beef tendon is so tasty and tender. Great flavor! Must order a Hong Kong milk tea to tie the whole meal together!! Service is quick and friendly staff.

I liked this hole in the wall place. It's small, and fills up quickly in a Sunday morning. We walked in about 10:30am, only ones. And as we left at 11ish- almost all the tables were full. Friendly service. We got the Yuen yung, coffee/tea hot drink was perfect blend and just enough sweetness. Started with the wonton/dumpling mix and we preferred the wontons so we ordered an extra bowl of them. The spicy HK noodles, very chewy and bouncy noodles! So perfectly cooked and the right about of texture, no mush at all. We found the pork in it kind meh, it was interesting though. Also got the baked pork chop spaghetti. Not too sweet, the sauce gave me tomato soup vibes (not in a bad way). The pork chop was cooked well, the noodles were cooked to the doneness I would say of Asian style - a bit beyond Al dente which I think suits this dish. Again not our favorite. We would return. I heard this family is related to Maxis in Flushing (iykyk) so we came out to see how how similar or different. The wontons are filled with lots of shrimp, there is visible seasoning but it'a not like the Flushing place. Different but still tasty.

Finally tried this place after moving closer to the area. Got the Spicy Beef Satay Wonton Soup. It was delicious and hit the spot on a cool day. Very nice and friendly staff. Can't wait to go back and try something else. Keep in mind... it is cash only. Or you could use Zelle.

Good HK style food. Enjoyed the dishes, including the hot HK milk tea (which is sweet). Not a lot of seating but enough for lunch time. Staff speaks mostly Chinese (Cantonese or mandarin)

Curry Beef Stew Noodle Soup but where is the Curry !

Today I am so disappointed about the foods in this restaurant. I ordered a curry beef stew noodle soup so when the soup came out I noticed there wasn't any curry taste at all in the broth. I called the waitress over then the waitress told me " I can bring you a little cup of curry ". So I dumped the curry into the broth then the broth became warm. Worse soup I had ever had in a long times.

Amazing comfort food in the heart of North Quincy. Don't let the name fool you. Saigon Corner is not your banh mi shop. It's a Cantonese/HK hidden gem that serves wonton and noodle soup dishes. It is a small cafe with limited seating. Whether you're there to dine in or take out, make sure to bring cash. Fried Wontons: Came out extra crispy and had whole pieces of pork and shrimp, instead of ground meat. They also have Fried Dumplings on the appetizer menu - this might be the ground meat version. Beef Tendon and Wonton Noodle Soup: Noodles were al dente. Broth was hearty. Good amount of beef tendon with the chewy texture that I like. Wontons were super juicy and plump - this is the ground meat version. Tomato Sauce Pork Chop Fried Rice: Sauce was sweet and savory over a bed of fragrant egg fried rice. There were at least 2-3 whole pieces of pork chop for this one order cut up into bite size - a great value!

We tried Rubato Cafe and then found ourselves at Bayao, just a stone's throw away, and WOW, what a different vibe. Walk into Bayao and you're hit with bright colors, neon signs, and a decor that feels like a love letter to Hong Kong, whether you grew up there or not. The tables even look like mahjong sets, and they've got posters from classic Hong Kong films. By the time I saw In the Mood for Love (where my fellow Wong Kar-wai fans at?) in the bathroom area, I knew these folks understood ambiance. But let's talk food. I had the chicken tomato macaroni soup, a comforting, flavorful bowl of nostalgia. The chicken was freshly fried and super tasty, exactly why Hong Kong cha chaan teng comfort food is a thing. My friend got the chicken pineapple bun, and while the bun wasn't a perfect replica of the classic (or what we'd prefer, a genuine bo lo bao), I'm now thinking maybe a sturdier bun makes sense to hold it all together. (Maybe I shouldn't have been so upset at Rubato in my last review. HMM.) It tasted good, and I appreciated the cute "Time to Bread" toothpick flag. The Ovaltine French toast was a showstopper. It looks unassuming, then you cut in and BOOM! Chocolate lava oozes out. It's sweet, but hey, dessert is dessert. Prices were reasonable, around $11 for the pineapple bun, $13 for my hearty soup. In the end, Bayao didn't just feed us; it took us on a trip. I'd happily return for both the flavors and those Hong Kong feels.

Ever since Double Chin Restaurant in Chinatown closed (may she rise again), I've been on a mission to find a worthy fried chicken bolo bao. My friend and I trudged into Rubato on a cold, rainy day, hoping for a replacement. Spoiler alert: we did not find one. We ordered four items: rice rolls with curry fish balls, an egg custard lava bun, Ovaltine French toast, and the fried chicken bolo bao. The rice rolls were mild but fine, topped with enough cilantro and scallion to keep it interesting. The lava bun was hot, gooey, and did its job. (GOOD JOB, LAVA BUN!) The Ovaltine French toast? Eh, it aite. But here's the heartbreak: the chicken bolo bao. The chicken wasn't hot; it had that "sat around" feeling. And the bun? Just a dressed-up brioche, missing that true bo lo bao magic. A brioche bun with a crackly top is not a bo lo bao, my dudes. In short, everything was edible, but nothing made me want to come back. There used to be a Bank of America ATM right across the street but it seems like it is no longer there unfortunately. Their biang biang noodles are fire & you really can't go wrong with getting the dry version or with soup. Honestly, this has been my favorite spot to get noodles lately. Last week, I literally went here almosevery day for dinner (I wish I was kidding). My favorite dishes to order from here include: - Cumin Lamb Biang Biang Noodles - Cumin Lamb Biang Biang Noodle Soup - Fish Filet with Chili Pepper - Chongching Chicken with Chili Pepper Visually, the dishes don't look like generous portions but actually they're quite filling! The cumin lamb Biang Biang noodles (w/o soup) is generally my go-to because it's SO FLAVORFUL. The lamb is cooked well & doesn't taste gamey at all. It's a tad spicy but won't kill you hahaha. They do have another version of this dish that comes with soup & it's a great option if you're feeling a soup. This also has amazing flavor but of course, not as flavorful as the dry version since it comes with soup. I highly recommend getting the fish filet with chili peppers if you love a fried fish! They make it incredibly crispy without making the fish taste dry. This is perfect with a bowl of rice. Now, the chongching chicken wings have to be the spiciest dish out of my favorites. This is a great snack! I usually get this to share if I'm eating here with a group or if I'm getting takeout, I'll get this as an entree. The pieces are crispy, spicy, and juicy. What more can you ask for? SO GOOD. For dine in, it is Cash Only. If you do takeout and don't have cash/want to go grab cash, what I like to do is order through UberEats. This way, it charges credit card & you can just go in to pick it up or choose for delivery.

We walked into a simple, modest space with only a handful of tables, the kind of casual neighborhood eatery where the focus is clearly on the food rather than the surroundings. The dining room was tight and functional, with a no-frills setup that kept the attention on the noodles coming out of the kitchen. The energy was practical and unpretentious, and the steady flow of customers reflected its reputation as a destination for anyone craving authentic Chinese noodle dishes. The hand-pulled noodles are the highlight of the menu. We ordered a few different styles and found the Biang Biang noodles standing out with their wide, chewy texture that held up well to the bold sauces. The Lanzhou beef noodle soup offered a lighter broth paired with freshly stretched noodles that had a clean, satisfying bite. The spicy lamb hand-pulled noodles were another popular choice, combining tender meat with a flavorful sauce that had a satisfying amount of heat. Beyond the noodles, the cumin lamb burger, steamed dumplings, and cold skin noodles provided plenty of variety if we wanted to explore more of the menu. Each dish arrived hot and well assembled, and the portions were generous for the price. The restaurant operates with a very straightforward, self-service style. Seating is limited, and the dining room fills up quickly during busy hours, so waiting for a table is common. The service is fairly minimal, with the emphasis placed on getting the food out rather than providing a full-service dining experience. Water and utensils are self-serve, and the overall experience feels more like grabbing an authentic meal than dining somewhere with polished hospitality. It is also worth knowing that Chili Square is cash only, so planning ahead will save you from any surprises when it is time to pay. The staff moved through the room efficiently, and the noodles came out hot and freshly pulled. Overall, Chili Square is a great choice if you are looking for authentic hand-pulled noodles and bold Northwestern Chinese flavors. The small space, cash-only policy, and simple service require a little flexibility, but the freshly made noodles and generous portions make it well worth the visit if the food is your main priority.
