The atmosphere was quaint and unassuming, you would think that this was a local place for comfort food. The menu was small, but the quality of the food was certainly 5 Star. They started us out with a house salad that had a house made Italian dressing that was fabulous, there was just the right amount of vinegar to give it a pop but not overpower the rest of the flavors. They also brought some bread with the salad that was toasted with herbs and olive oil that was fantastic (I only ate 1 piece ok 2 pieces because I am diabetic). My wife had the prime rib which was seasoned and cooked to perfection, my only complaint is that they did not have raw horseradish to go with the prime rib. I had the lamb chops which ranked with some of the finest restaurants that I have ever eaten at. They were tender and juicy and cooked to an even medium rare temperature. The wine sauce was amazing and the potatoes and cheesey broccoli were an amazing pairing with this dish. Nice little spot in downtown Daphne. Came here for after church brunch and it was pretty busy. I ordered the Belgian Waffles and they were pretty good. My bacon came in a ring, how cool is that?! This is a darling little cafe located near downtown Daphne. When I first visited the area my family and I stopped for a quick lunch. We had sandwiches and soups, but what I had remembered most after 2 years was the adorable little home that houses the restaurant, and the KEY LIME PIE! Now that I've moved to the area and have tried the menu a few more times, my favorites are the crab cakes (probably the best in the Mobile area), the honey pecan chicken salad sandwich, and the tomato bisque soup! All incredibly fresh and delicious. The only reason I gave this a 4 star and not a 5 is because for my birthday this past weekend we went for dinner. The food was good, but not great. Their lunch menu is a lot better and more flavorful. They should stick with simplicity and focus on flavor development with their dinner menu because that's what they're good at! I ate here with some friends after church and it is the perfect place to do so. The place is really family friendly and the restaurant feels more like an old southern home. This is mainly a soup and sandwich place. I will say the three stars I gave it might be part of my bias. I am not a huge fan of soup and sandwich places. It's a small town home style restaurant that has fantastic crab cakes. I love places like these because you can't get that sort of thing very often. I originally rated this place 2 stars but after being attacked by friends of the business I'm being forced to lower my review to 1 star since this has truly become a miserable experience.... Original Review 8/31/2015 I don't understand all the 4 and 5 star reviews, this place is pretty disappointing. It's possible that they have some things that they do well but I would advise you to avoid any of the crab items. I've always heard great things about this place and how wonderful the crab cakes supposedly are. I should have known better. I have lived on the Gulf Coast my entire life and as far as I know there are no restaurants that serve real crab cakes. And the ones served at the East Shore Cafe are the run of the mill, frozen, Stovetop stuffing hockey pucks that you can find at any area seafood restaurant, only these are thinner, flatter, and larger in diameter. The waitress verified this when she told us that, "we're out of lump crab meat but we have plenty of crab cakes".... A real crab cake is mostly lump crab meat, which btw, is readily available in our area... The crab cakes were disappointing but, at least they did have some crab flavor. The "Dauphin Island Corn and Crab Chowder", on the other hand, had absolutely no noticeable crab meat or flavor,(probably because they were out of lump crab meat). It tasted like someone mixed cream, canned corn and a few onions together, heated it to just barely above room temperature, and forgot to add any salt, seasonings or crab. My wife and I looked at each other and agreed that we wont be coming back. read more

The menu is very limited and consists of very basic dishes anyone could make at home: tuna and chicken salad sandwiches, iceberg lettuce salads, soups, etc. I was a bit bothered by the cleanliess of the restaurant. There was food splattered on the wall next to our table, which it appeared no one had bothered to wipe of for quite some time. I did not care for the ambiance at all.
