Stopped by on Christmas night with my mother and brother. I understand paying a premium for food on a major holiday but the food they did have available in the buffet was terrible and there was multiple dished that were completely empty. Nearly every time we are down visiting my parents, we grab some take-out from Eastern Bay...and every time it is quality Chinese take-out. Tonight's order included sesame chicken, General Tso's chicken, Hunan chicken and cashew chicken. Every dish was prepared as requested and very tasty. I highly recommend getting white meat and the sauce on the side for the General. Egg rolls are solid, as is the crab rangoon. There may be better Chinese restaurants in the Hilliard/Upper Arlington/Grandview area, but Eastern Bay has been consistently solid in my experience. read more

This Chinese restaurant is located in what is clearly an old McDonald' s building -- never a good sign. It's not as bad as all that, though. The food is pretty decent. My wife and I rocked the buffet the day we visited. Buffets are buffets generally, though it is easy to mess up the simple concept. This one was respectable. Nothing stood out as mind-blowing -- just an average place. The menu might yield entirely different results. We visited at lunch and felt like the prices were a little high. We would have felt more comfortable with them at dinner. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive, though, which is no small thing. If you're driving down Dublin Road and craving Chinese food, this is your best ticket. read more

Ordered using their website online for delivery to my house. I was emailed with confirmation of order and told it was 50minutes until delivery. I called after 75minutes (took 6-7 calls to get through), and they had a hard time finding the order. They then asked for my credit card to pay and I asked how long it would be until the food arrived. They responded, "50 minutes." Ended up waiting for an hour and a half (by the time they answered and found my order) and now I have a family of 6 sitting hungry with no resolution thanks to Eastern Bay. read more

I really enjoy Eastern Bay's food. You can tell that it is made with love and that they care about their product. There are a few things I will order to start to get a feel for a place and so far there have been no disappointments. Their egg rolls, Lo Mein (House), Dan Dan noodles and BBQ ribs are all great! Ordered through UberEats. General Tso's tasted ok but made my husband sick later. Egg rolls were dry. Mustard sauce tasted like marker. Pad Thai tasted like garbage and bad seafood, couldn't eat it and threw it away. Do not recommend!!! read more

As a vegetarian, I got the tofu yellow curry, mala green beans, and tofu general tso's to go to share with two others. All were delicious! The tofu general tso's was perfectly sweet yet salty, the green beans were delicious, and even though yellow curry isn't my favorite dish it was quite good. Eastern Bay whips up some delectable, fresh Chinese cooking although a bit pricey. Each dish has its own distinctive sauce and flavor - unlike other Chinese restaurants where phrases such as "Chef's special sauce", "Delicate sauce", "Velvety sauce", "Delightful sauce", and "Secret Sauce" all translates to the same thing: brown sauce. Dood, just lose the goddamn thesaurus and admit your chef's incompetence. I noticed many of the customers opting for the lunch buffet at EB (offered M-F and Sunday.) The only thing that stood out from the buffet table was the bon bon chicken, but since buffets aren't really my cup of tea, I went for the regular menu instead. As mentioned, a tad costly considering the portion sizes. The meat dishes are decent, but $8 for a measly portion of broccoli, carrots, bok choy, and five cashew nuts?! (I counted, yes.) Price-wise aside, spot on and friendly service. The gals running the place know how to keep regulars coming back. 3.5 stars! read more

This buffet was very disappointing. The buffet itself was tiny and there wasn't much to choose from. I'm usually easy to please when it comes to food, but these dishes were horrible. Most of the dishes were dried out and over seasoned. Unlike most of the other buffets in Columbus, they had very little seafood. They had one dish with some shrimp in it, but that was it. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The food was mediocre Chinese food, but that's not where most of my problem lies. My friend had been a loyal customer at Eastern Bay for years and decided to take me there for the lunch buffet. The waiter we had was awkward and not friendly. When there was a problem with the bill we asked for the manager. The woman came to our table and proceeded to yell at my friend and I in front of the other customers. She was so rude and quite frankly made herself look like an idiot. If you are looking for great Chinese food I recommend visiting Lotus Grill at Crosswoods. Eastern Bay is my go to lunch buffet. I have been frequenting it for 2 years for lunch. I was introduced to it through a coworker who took me there for lunch. Back then I thought ok just another American Chinese buffet who cares lets check it out. I was hooked right away. The buffet offerings are very flavorful and always refreshed during buffet hours. I have also tried the menu and it was great but I do admit I'm addicted to their buffets since it works better with my work schedule and my time being in the vicinity. That coworker has since quit and stopped going. I text him from time to time and tell him hey I kept the tradition, traitor! The restaurant had a recent ownership change in the summer/fall timeframe and it has been consistent and even better since. The previous owner was very nice and chatty and I think she has retired, I was told. A salute to that. Michelle, the current owner, is very nice, friendly and always welcoming. They have also improved the buffet offerings and introduced additional classic options. There is a great deal of authenticity to their food and I think they make it with more than the average passion. Love is poured into it if you will and that all sounds great by me. I just wanted to add, I did not bother reading other reviews because I was already an established regular customer here coming once a week, but I just scanned through them and I am quite puzzled if they are even rating the same restaurant. Are you even serious right now?. I guess negative people will always find something to whine about, true or not, so it is all perception. Final note, I happen to be one of those "lucky" ones with nuts allergy. Walnuts would absolutely kill me as well as peanuts (to a lessor degree) so I like how they describe the buffet entrees and contents. When I started going there I asked the former owner and was directed to which items contained nuts. This is important to mention, because I have dined at places where I was assured there was no nuts in food only to find 30 minutes later when I start getting a reaction with a severity dependent on amount exposure. I got my EpiPen and allergy pills in the car especially when I dine out just in case. Point is, Eastern Bay is another authentic Chinese cooking where use of nuts or sauces/mixes containing peanut oil, etc is very common in the cuisine and so far I had no incidents. It is crucial that you dine at a place where the management is aware of what the kitchen is using in their cooking. I can't speak the same for other places! read more

We live very close and order there frequently. Tonight they lost our business forever. At 9:15 on a Saturday night they refused to answer their phone. I realize they close at 9:30 but to refuse to answer the phone? So I called back in case I misdialed , they picked up the line and hang up...um, rude. I called back to get the rudest person ever. Unfriendly waitresses offering fair-poor service. Food not very good. They were rude to me and my kids, one adult was brought out the wrong dish and nicely told the wAitress this was not what she ordered. The waitress argued with her, never apologized. I also saw a waitress grab food off the bar with her non gloved hands tear it in two then place part in mouth and part back on bar. Have been coming here for twenty - plus years (well before their move to the current location) I can honestly say that their Sunday buffet is not their strong suite - the food is much better when ordering from the menu. I do have to say that what they do put out on the buffet are kept to smaller quantities and kept fresh - they don't pile stuff up and let sit around for long periods. On a busy Sunday, though, they can get a bit behind the curve as a result Large buffets scare the daylights out of me in terms of food safety - I've not had a concern here, If you come here for a non-buffet meal, take heart. The kitchen is especially good with vegetables, which really don't get a chance to shine on a buffet line - and the spicing on the dishes is much more flavorful. I'm somewhat of a Sesame Chicken connoisseur so we shared that and some of the Cashew Chicken. Both were pretty good. The fact that it's close and easy makes Eastern Bay somewhere I'll probably frequent a lot, but I don't know if it would be my absolute Chinese food go-to in the area. Admittedly, I'm not a fan of most "American" Chinese food, so I wasn't overly enthusiastic when a business colleague suggested we do a Chinese buffet for lunch, but I went along with it out of courtesy. When we arrived in the parking lot and I looked at the building, my first thoughts were not "Wow looks like a high-end Chinese restaurant". It was more along the lines of "Um, is this a partially converted McDonald's?" The owners have added some landscaping, put a few planters on the drive up island and repainted the outside. They redecorated inside, but again it looks like a superficial cleanup versus a redesign to be a Chinese restaurant. Maybe they're just starting off this way to see if the business takes off before investing a lot of money into the building. We had the buffet for lunch. I have to say that the food here is good. I've been to too many Chinese restaurants where the sauces for the dishes taste the same. Not so here. I also found their spicy dishes to actually be spicy! The Szechuan chicken was very good and the hot and sour soup was actually hot and spicy! And, it was the right consistency as opposed to the super thick almost gooey stuff I've tried in other restaurants. The hot mustard also got my attention. Wow, this isn't the stuff you normally get in the little yellow packets. I asked the server and he confirmed this was a homemade mustard sauce. As were the other sauces in the buffet. Kudos to them for making their own versus using off-the-shelf stuff. The eggrolls were really very good as well. The shell was crispy and flaky, versus the oil soaked soggy rolls I so often see in a place like this. The filling was fresh and appropriately cooked. Again impressive for a Chinese buffet. Some folks would say the service here is excellent. I would certainly say they are attentive, but for me I would say it's over attentive. I think the server must've refilled my water glass each time I took a sip. And it seemed like the server was always hovering around the table. For me that's distracting and I almost felt rushed. In summary, all the food that I tried at the buffet was above average and several dishes were very good. Ambience and service weren't quite there for me. Would I come back here for a date or bring a customer for a business lunch? No. Would I come here again for some good quick Chinese if I were in the neighborhood ? Yes. I'm a great big fat person, and have eaten at many, many Chinese buffets. Hands down, this is the best Chinese buffet in Columbus... too bad it's only a lunch buffet, or I'd go here more often. Let me just begin with the fact that I ran out of the doors hysterically in tears with plans to never return. You must know that I have been a consistent customer for the last year as I like to have a couple beers while my oil is getting changed. For some ungodly known reason, the woman behind the bar refused to serve me as I asked to start with a water. Before I could finish my sentence she blurted out in a rude manner, "this a business!" Completely dumbfounded from feeling attacked and unwanted, I asked her if my business was welcome. she stared blankly at me and I asked again, "is my business not welcome here?". She played dumb with no response. I proceeded to bring to her attention that I would never return to a place where I felt unwanted and stereotyped into someone who would take advantage of the business. I'm sure her first thought was that i was going to drink her water, sit in her bar stool, n use her bathroom without making a purchase. In reality, she jumped to a conclusion, harassed her customer and then proceeded to let business walk out the door. Learn how to treat your customers. You need a new job, particularly one that doesn't involve people skills. I wish the owner health and hope to bring this matter to his attention before anymore business is lost. read more

Okay, I fully realize this isn't the most authentic Chinese food out there. Authentic or not, it's very very tasty! Their shrimp always tastes fresh, and they have an option for white meat only for the chicken dishes. Great vegetable dumplings, too. The fried rice isn't too heavy either. Tonight I tried them for delivery through Bite Squad, and ordered the General Tso's Shrimp. A bit sweeter than my preference, but a little soy fixes anything.
