Bottom line: Good and less than great experiences both with delivery meals here. I did not enjoy the Chicken Egg Foo Young (way too many onions, greasy) but really enjoyed the Chicken With Cashew Nuts meal the next time I ordered. I will stick to my faves here in the future. The Deets: NOTE: This review is for delivery meals only. I used to go to this restaurant fairly regularly many many years ago but had not eaten there for a long time until recently when using them for delivery meals at home. With my delivery meals from Eastern China Restaurant, I've had some pretty good and some not so wonderfully good. Let's start off with the less than wonderful meal first. I looked over their menu and decided to go with something new for myself, their Chicken Egg Foo Young selection that came with egg roll and choice of rice. I figured that I liked chicken as well as omelet type egg meals so I would go with it. The meal itself has pretty good portions and I liked that the sauce/gravy was separate in its own container so you can control how much you'd like to use. I will say that the egg roll and rice were both good. However, I was not really satisfied with the chicken egg foo young itself as it really was more onion filled than anything else, I mean like a mouthful of onions in egg. I can favor a bit of onion for flavor but I am no means a huge massive amount of onions fan, truth be told. I would favor describing it more as "onion omelet" honestly. It also left what seemed like a greasy residue or after taste in my mouth for a very long time. It may be that egg foo young is not my thing (and acknowledge if so since trying it out this time) but I was less than satisfied with my meal choice. I went with a different menu selection for my next delivery meal from Eastern China Restaurant in the Chicken With Cashew Nuts including rice. I enjoyed their chicken with cashew nuts meal a lot as it has always been a fave choice at other places and this meal kept that going for me here. Again with very good portions for delivery and this time I really was satisfied both taste and texture wise as well. I would say averaging my two recent experiences together here, I'd go with three stars. In the future I think I am going to stick with those faves I know and be less adventurous in ordering my meals here. read more

Consistently great food. We've been getting delivery from EC for quite some time and never gotten anything less than excellent food. Everything is well-prepared and flavorful. Good quality cuts of meat in their dishes. Price-wise it's very competitive with other Chinese delivery but far better quality IMHO. My only "beef" is that they get a little carried away using mushroom as a filler in some dishes, so if you like mushrooms then you're good. I personally can't stand them, but they are also very willing to not add them if you ask for "no mushrooms, please". Everything here was perfect! I have been trying out multiple different Chinese restaurants in the area and finally found the best one! The only downside is it isn't the best place to sit down and eat but it is the best take out Chinese place to go to. In the photo I got the bourbon chicken dinner, white rice, lomain noodles. Overall it cost $18 and it lasted 4 meals!! Finally a place with good portions! It also tasted incredible and I will definitely be going back. The people working were all very nice and friendly. The only reason why I originally ordered from this place was because it was one of the few places open later in the evening. The reason why I've come back is because the food here is affordable and quite tasty. Eastern China Restaurant is kind of like your standard Chinese takeout, with a ton of different chicken, pork, and beef options. My two biggest gripes when it comes to these types of restaurants are that 1. sweet dishes are too sweet. 2. vegetables are oily and overcooked. Eastern China Restaurant does not succumb to either or these two things (for what I know so far). I ordered one of the Americanized Chinese classics, chicken and broccoli. I must say, it tasted quite nice. The chicken was tender and seasoned well. The broccoli tasted fresh and wasn't too oily. Their fried rice was decent, nothing too crazy about it! I've also ordered their shrimp with lobster sauce. I've had this dish a bit better in other places, this one wasn't nearly as seasoned as some of the best I've had. However, their portions blow every other shrimp with lobster sauce I've had out of the water. They gave me almost 2x the amount I normally get, and it has turned into 3 meals for me. I would say that it is certainly worth it. Service here is super quick and the people at the front are very nice! They have decent seating inside, although the exterior is a bit less friendly, albeit, it's just a strip mall. Overall, I will continue to visit and try different things. I have ordered different dishes from Eastern China and have been satisfied. Quick delivery, tasty dishes, generous portions. I decided to order their broccoli beef dish for the first time. Although very tasty, I was surprised at the amount of broccoli versus beef there was. After removing the broccoli (just to see) there was exactly 12 pieces of meat (yes, I counted). Again, for the most part their food is fairly good as is the service however, I probably won't be ordering any more broccoli dishes. Otherwise, I give Eastern China a 9/10. read more

I have no clue what the other reviews are talking about. This was by far the strangest and worst Chinese food I've had around here. I ordered bourbon chicken and Mongolian beef, and well, both were absolutely inedible. The bourbon chicken was composed of large awkwardly cut chunks of chicken basking in an unpleasant, thick, and gloppy sauce. Not a single thing about it screamed bourbon chicken. Meanwhile, the Mongolian beef was tough and yet again, the sauce was way off. It was sweet and lacked any spiciness. Both entrees had a very strong and odd cinnamon flavor to them. I could barely eat any of it before throwing it out. Definitely avoid this place at all costs. read more

Eastern China has always been a solid go-to in the Triangle, but they have seriously leveled up their game. I now split my time between Morrisville and Chicago, and after being away for 8 months and ordering yesterday I am shocked at how the food has gotten even better. I would put some of their most popular dishes on par with SuperWok in Cary which is a local favorite. The protein cuts are definitely elevated in both quality and portion, they have mastered oil levels in their dishes, and the veggies are soooo fresh. We've grabbed take out here on several occasions, however it's a very different feel if you sit down to eat. Summary: Pros: a) Good location. b) Consistently high quality fresh food. c) The team is willing to try to adapt for special requests. d) Good pricing. e) Great variety. Cons: a) Less than clean, and understocked restroom. OK, the only paper available was in the form of napkins at the cash register. b) The new crew seem to be comfortable eating, grabbing money, and boxing up to-go orders without washing their hands. c) We had to clean the dining room table. d) Although they have multiple tables and chairs for eating in, based upon what we experienced, it would be hard to recommend eating in. If we hadn't been meeting someone here, we would have just taken the food to go, however since we tried to endure a sit down experience in a clearly designed for take out facility, we took in a different perspective. It might have been a bad day, however cleanliness doesn't seem to be a strength. This should be an easy fix, and we'll be looking at these areas prior to buying take out in the future. read more

Even though there are some delicious and authentic Chinese places in the Cary area, I was really craving some takeout Chinese last night and boy did this place hit the spot! Did a quick google search and found this place to be less than a 5 min drive away. No menu online or anything so I decided to just walk in and order. Food took a little longer than some of the reviews below said (about 30 mins on a Sunday night at 7:30), but the food was tasty and the portions were HUGE. I got a small size (pint) of General Tso's Chicken and Pepper Steak for $5 each and they came with rice as well. And this will easily feed me for 3-4 meals! Also, the pork fried rice here is absolutely delicious (and I'm normally not a big fan of fried rice). The interior of the place is decently sized for a takeout joint, but I wouldn't really recommend eating there. There is a 10 dollar minimum on credit cards and they only accept Mastercard or Visa. This is your standard NY Style Take out Chinese Food storefront. Theres a million of them in the area but that being said this one is good. I always get the boneless spare ribs here because they are delicious fresh and reheat really well for fried rice with all of your leftover white rice you're going to have. General chicken is good and heavily fried but you shouldn't be surprised because its supposed to be delicious right? Mongolian beef is on point and the shrimp with snowpeas in brownsauce is one of my favorites. One cool thing here is they dont list it on the menu as to maybe not scare people away but they have a "Healthy" Menu posted in the store that states they will make anything steamed so you dont get sodium laced delicious sauce with it. I ordered the sweet n sour chicken lunch special, crab rangoons and an order or egg drop soup. The soup was good, but the noodles were store bought. I can buy noodles in the store. I prefer fresh made noodles. The crab Rangoons were very good. The sweet n sour chicken was hard as a rock. I couldn't eat the chicken. The breading was okay. I asked for no pork in the rice and the rice had nothing. It was literally rice with no veggies, onions or anything. Sweet n sour chicken is too easy to mess up. We have been eating at Eastern China for several years and recently they have taken many steps to improve both the quality of their food and the aesthetic of the location, and it shows. They have added new items to their menu and refined some classics making eating there a very satisfying experience. My only personal criticism is that I wish they would put more vegetables in their fried rice. I would gladly pay a little more for it having more onions, bean sprouts, and pork. I typically order the Honey Chicken which is new to their menu and would like it to be a little more consistent. Sometimes there is a good amount of honey, but sometimes it is very sparce. Honestly, it is those few things keeping me from giving it a 5-star, but that being said, if you haven't tried them lately, I would recommend you do so. read more

Eastern China reminds me of the Chimerican (as I like to call it) take out joints I have been to in NYC. Very bare bone interior and the paper menu is the same across the country, without it even being a chain restaurant. It's like they had a national meeting where they decided that Chinese take out joints in America have to use identical menus. Also, the same photos of the dishes are above the counter. I didn't state that my order was to go, but was given my food in a brown paper bag anyway. Maybe they couldn't imagine anyone wanting to dine in. I really just needed somewhere to sit while I was waiting for my wife who was nearby. The tables were dirty, there were hardly any plastic spoons or forks and no napkins. I had a small shrimp fried rice and a shrimp roll. I was surprised there were so many shrimps in the rice for ony 4.75 dollars, which is the main reason I am giving 2 stars, also the bean sprouts were fresh. The outsise of the shrimp roll was nice and crispy, but the inside had a bit of a smell. I used to have this kind of food for lunch all the time, but after today I'm not craving to come back here, the rice has a weird oily/buttery/MSG like after taste. I had to put like eight pieces of gum in my mouth to get rid off it. I'm not necessarily saying that this is worse than any other Chimerican take out. Also, the chef clearing his throat loudly in the kitchen did not help make my culinary senses blossom. Anyway, I don't understand why anyone would give Eastern China more than 3 stars at best. Excellent greasy Chinese take-out. The folks that run this place are always extremely courteous and continually aim to please. I typically go with the Kung Pao Chicken and am never disappointed. I'm pretty sure these are the best take-out egg rolls in town. Everything on the menu is pretty good; not "great" but not bad and definitely an above average value. Eastern China is a good example of a good no frills Chinese take out. It's definitely not fancy, but if you are looking for well made Chinese food (which we are in short supply of IMHO) this is a good place to go. The people are very nice and they have an extensive menu to pick from. They have good value combination meals for lunch and dinner. A couple of our favorites are the fried baby shrimp, very tasty and sesame chicken and lo mein. We also really like the wonton soup. Large portions, fast service, decent prices, everything a Chinese takeout should be. Triple in Garlic Sauce, Szechuan Chow Mei Fun, and Pan Fried Dumplings is my standing order. They changed hands a few years back and the food was not as good but I started going back and i was very impressed. Not really a dine in atmosphere but you can sit inside if you like. Very middle of the road. Our go to is the Chicken and Beef fried rice, can't really go wrong with those. I also love their Teriyaki chicken skewers, but that is where my love ends.
