After reclaiming my hair back from 10+ inches of regrowth, I feel like Nicole gave me myself back again. Swing Salon also does a great job following COVID guidelines: checking your temperature at the door, upholding occupancy limits, ensuring all equipment is sanitized/sterilized for each client, and requiring a mask at all times for both client and stylist. I felt very comfortable getting my haircut there. Side note: Chad recommended getting both a coffee and a Nutella-covered waffle at Cortona Cafe (next door on the corner), so I did. They were yumbo in my tumbo!

It's on a mostly residential street with plenty of street parking, if you're driving. The online booking is easy to schedule and I got an email reminder the day before my appointment. The salon is smallish, with three chairs, but has a comfortable and relaxed vibe with cool art to look at and soothing music to listen to while you wait your turn. I wanted to avoid the intimidating hipper-than-thou Capitol Hill experience, and Swing was welcoming and low-key. Eric consulted with me briefly about my hair and looked at pics of past haircuts I've had and liked. He did something I've never had a stylist do: dry my hair lightly and scrunch it up to show how the cut would look as a wash-and-go. This was really helpful and I wish all stylists would do it! He offers free bang trims between cuts, and said that if I wasn't happy with the way he did the layering around my face (which was slightly different from my previous cut), I could come back and have it fixed free. But I've already gotten so many compliments on my cut today that I don't think I'll need to! A shampoo/cut/style was $45 for long hair, which seemed reasonable. Eric wasn't pushy or trying to hawk products, which I appreciated -- it's awkward having to fend off the upselling while your cut is in progress. I think I was the last customer of the night, but I didn't feel that he was rushing through my cut or trying to hustle me out the door. All around, a solid haircut for a fair price in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. I'll be back!

My hair was straight, fine, one length and below my shoulders. I requested classic indie girl…read morebangs, and heavily stressed that chunky face framing pieces were necessary, since I wear my hair up a lot. Everyone knows what I'm talking about, the high bun and bangs look. After she was finished the stylist told me she decided I would look better with a U shaped bang with no face framing. What she called a "health trim" ended up being 4-5 inches off of my hair and a top layer that makes me look like I have a bowl on my head. What kills me is I told her I had recently lost my job and really needed a boost to help me through interviews. I am now wearing thick headbands every day to cover the bangs, and the layering looks terrible. I can't afford a wig and the six months I spent growing my hair out is lost. My self esteem really didn't need this and I strongly suggest that people not go to the West Seattle location.
