Service was excellent! I had the blackened ribeye which was good, I only wish it was a little more tender which had more to do with the cut of meat than preparation. After a second time I thought I would be able to give 4-stars but I am not able to. They have this ridiculous rule that if you get there before 5 PM they make you wait to seat you, even 2 minutes before. So everyone either crams in at the bar or in the main entry way, ridiculous. Our waitress was very friendly but most of the staff seems a little snoody. Very popular with the 50+ crowd in this area. This is a more up scale dining experience and not great for college students which makes it a miss for this area. We got the Potabella Gorgonzola bread, tried all of their homemade salad dressings, vegetable risotto and BBQ shrimp with grits. Although there is decent flavor for all items, I think the cheese is fairly overwhelming in all of these entree's other than the salads which are refreshing. We all had a hard time staying awake on the ride home. Although we thought the two non-meat options would be vegetarian friendly they really weren't, they were loaded with so much cheese that it was a little hard to handle. The grits were good but again a little over powering, as one would suggest by the food coma after the fact. After two mediocre experiences at their fine dining prices, I probably wouldn't do again for a while. The salad dressing is amazing, too bad they are not in the salad dressing business instead of the mediocre dining business. read more

I came here with two other friends during the weekend because we were craving meat. We are deprived college students that do not get enough protein from the dining halls on campus so you can imagine how excited we were about making the trip downtown to finally eat some quality food. I got the ahi tuna dish with caramelized onions and my friends both got some kind of steak. I haven't tried their dish so I can't speak on their behalf, but my dish was WAYYY too sweet. The sauce was overbearing so I could barely taste the tuna. The texture was great, however. It sliced like butter and I didn't need to do much chewing to swallow since it pretty much melted in my mouth. The waitress highly recommended this particular dish, which apparently is one of their most popular items on the menu. I think I would have liked it much better had the sauce been more light and simple. Price is fair because the portions are pretty big. Definitely nothing expensive. If you haven't been here, it's worth a try, but I won't be coming back. I prefer Sierra Grille next door. I've never been disappointed at that place! read more

Having lived in NoHo for close to five years now Eastside has become a go-to place when family is in town. They seem to have the perfect menu for a dinner out with parents, or aunts/uncles ect. That being said, the food is good, though nothing to get too excited for. They used to have a really great take on tuna tar tar, but when they changed the menu they switched from the tar tar with crispy wontons, to seared tuna on a bed of warm bulgar....BAD IDEA! The flavors are good, the problem for me is texture...its like eating fish on oatmeal...BLAH! However, like I said generally speaking the food is good, and if you want a good martini and don't feel like going across the street to the Tunnel Bar, Eastside is your place. read more

For starters our server Larry (who never introduced himself) had zero personality and seemed like he really didn't want to be there. My Caesar salad was drenched in store bought dressing. When the meals came, they looked very appetizing, but biting into my lamb chops I realized they must've ran out of salt or any type of seasoning, though it was cooked perfectly. My baked potato on the other hand was undercooked. My husband ordered the fish and chips. That also lacked salt, and his fries were soggy. Very good steakhouse. I ordered the New York strip and was very pleased. Cooked perfectly and seasoned nicely. Highly recommend horseradish sauce. We also ordered the popcorn chicken and spinach dip as appetizers. No complaints, all around good meal. 4/5 stars because there was nothing that blew me away. Went for dinner with a group last night, the menu is still really good, lots of choices. If you have never eaten here before be careful with the spice selection because spicy is really creole spicy. The down sides were - they were not able to cook the tips to my liking, I am more of a rare steak person and they were all well done and when we asked for a double dirty martini - well, we got a regular martini - I would expect better from a restaurant of this caliber. read more

Going to be up front, this place gets a full star for the alligator appetizer alone. Otherwise it was just a bit below average. So, it was a Saturday night and we had to wait almost an hour to be seated. (no reservations on Saturday) I do give them credit for being very honest about the wait when we arrived. It was very busy and loud in the bar/waiting area, but we were able to grab a drink while we waited. Sadly, we ended up sitting in the same area as the rest of the crowd still waiting for tables. This meant the noise level stayed unpleasantly high. Could possibly have waited longer for a non-bar area seat, but we were really very hungry by then. The service was pleasant, but slow. Especially at the start waiting for a drink, and then later for us to get the check after saying no to dessert. The blackened alligator was unique, delicious and truly a treat to find in New England, but it didn't make up for the very mediocre main course. I had the Delmonico steak. Not the best cut and nothing to write home about. Husband had a chicken dish and rated it good, but not particularly special in any way. I might give it a second chance as it seemed very family friendly. I know the rest of it may just have been a bit of bad luck, but there are too many other options in Northampton. I might go back for the alligator alone, but the plan will be to get there early for apps and a drink before heading elsewhere for the rest of our meal. read more

My husband and I went for the first time this weekend and were not particularly impressed. We decided that The Eastside Grill tries harder to look and sound like a quality restaurant, than it does to provide good tasting food. Perhaps we should have taken the extensive menu as a hint: not many restaurants can provide such a huge selection without compromising on taste. We started with two signature cocktails and neither delivered as particularly special. The mix of flavors was somewhat off. Our appetizer, crostini with mushrooms & gruyere, was quite good. The salad and bread that came with the meal were just ok. For entrees, we ordered the jambalaya and the herbed chicken in tomato cream sauce with andouille. The andouille in both dishes was excellent, but otherwise, both meals were bland and tasted as if made with canned tomatoes. For dessert we ordered the creme brûlée. While it had a nice texture, it too was bland. There was no taste of vanilla and the brûlée did not have the glass-like caramelized top that makes creme brûlée unique. The coffee tasted like weak diner coffee. For the money we paid, we were full, but definitely underwhelmed. read more

The Eastside Grill was always a go to restaurant with my parents. I have had great meals here. The blackened fish is always great. I was disappointed in a chicken dish I had a few weeks ago. It reminded me of airline food. That was the only disappointing meal I have had there. The bar is nice to sit at before dinning. BBC on Tap is great. I've been here many times and never left disappointed. The food is solid and the service is very good. I sit at the bar which is cozy- good place to watch a game... The two bartenders, Samantha and Brian are great- really the reason why I keep going back and for the fourth star. The food highlights are the blackened Scallops served with sauteed spinach, the fried Oyster app, seared Tuna with Asian slaw and Sirloin with candied bacon. The menu hasn't changed in the three years that I've gone so my wish would be a smaller menu that changes frequently (including Beer), otherwise it's a great place to hang out. read more

We've been going to the Eastside Grill for years now and have always loved it. We bring family and friends with the promise of amazing steaks and delicious sides. However, tonight was a much different experience. The service was still prompt and the bread and salad was as stellar as always. Imagine our surprise when our entrees arrived and the mashed potatoes were fake!! Granted, perhaps the kitchen ran out (though it was an average Monday night) but when I asked the waiter regarding them, I was lectured on the "buttermilk recipe that is used to create the smooth texture." Okay so our food was excellent. Our wine was excellent. Pur service however was not. We waited an hour because we were 7 minutes late for our reservarion. I called 5 minutes before we were late and said we were parking and would be there in 5. when we walked in the hostess explained our situation to the manager. The female manager with blonde mid length hair said loud enough for the 8 groups of people standing around at the bar "well its not our problem it took her too long to get ready put them at the bottom of the list." SERIOUSLY. Well we needed to use our gift card and it was a special occasion for my husband's promotion. So we got wine at the bar and settled in. We go to Northampton at least 3 times a month and always walked by this place and said "we should go there"... we finally did last night and I can say I probably will never go back. When we started eating our food, my friend's sirloin burger that he asked to be cooked medium was gray and tough with no flavor. He hates ketchup and he even put that on the burger to help the taste. I had a shrimp pasta dish with wonderful ingredients, but for some reason it tasted like nothing, just noodles. About 5 minutes in my heart stopped when I bit down on something hard.. i pulled out of my mouth a piece of a metal sponge used to clean dishes from the kitchen. We both have worked in our fair share of different kitchens and I was a server for many years so we are always polite and never complain about things being over cooked or lacking in flavor, but come on. The waitress was nice and asked twice if I wanted another plate, I politely decline and she seemed to get short with us. I kept telling her I knew it wasn't her and I wasn't blaming her. Some restaurants rest on their laurels and unfortunately, the Eastside Grill has. Had some excellent dinners in the past but the quality of food, presentation, and service have slipped significantly. Had a table near the waiters station and the noise was uncomfortable and intrusive. A serious drawback for a great dining experience. It took a while for our server to greet us and it seemed that she had too many tables. She was abrupt with our service and not very attentive. Wine selection is very limited and when I inquired if there was another list I was told no. I ordered a blackened ribeye with carrots and mashed potatoes. The carrots were baby carrots right out of the bag, boiled and served. Not impressed. One of the worst dining experiences I have had in quite some time. Would not go back or recommend. read more

Appetizers are always tasty, entrees i have found can sometimes be hit or miss. Love the fried oysters and the mussels, the butternut squash raviolis (both entree and appetizer) are absolutely delicious. We ate here 2 years ago and had a terrible experience with tasteless food and paid our bill and decided to never Come back. Our friend told us to try again cause there is new management. So tonight we did...I'm very sorry I did. First: apps were so salty but we weren't gonna complain. Second: my New york strip came out raw when I asked for medium and the roasted potatoes looked old so, I ask the waitress to have the cook make it medium and to please replace the potatoes with mashed. They bring it back 5 min later still raw and burnt on the outside!! I told her I'm all set! She says to me would you rather a medwell steak! Are you seriously gonna stand there and tell me I don't know what a medium steak is? Please, I am 40 years old and eat out more than I should. The manager then tells us he is training a new cook! So punish the customer that makes sense to me! This place shouldn't be in lovely Nothampton. Never again! read more

Had an excellent dinner experience here on 10/28/17. We were a party of 8. As expected, the dining room was busy. Right away we all noticed how cozy and quiet the ambience was, not an easy thing to accomplish in a full dining room. Even the level of light was nice. Service, provided by Melissa, was top-notch throughout the meal. Drinks were great. The food was superb, even the salads that came with our dinners were delicious and super fresh. The sides with the entrees (sauteed spinach, mashed sweet potatoes, etc.) were every bit as good as the rest of the dinners. We are not an easy bunch to impress, but we were all very pleased with our experience at the Eastside Grill. Our compliments to all servers, chefs/kitchen staff, bartenders, and management. Not a fabulous dining experience; went with another couple. Their bottle of wine was corked (mildewed). Last bottle available. Why? It's on the wine list! The substitute was good, however, and cheaper. We were there for an hour and we managed to obtain one glass of wine, with difficulty. Don't order the fried calamari. Blackened delmonico ordered medium rare was bleeding all over the plate. By the time it came back, the other three in our group had finished eating. Took the leftover delmonico and potato and carrots to go; got home, no carrots (possibly the high point of the meal). A wearying experience - won't return. read more

Used to be pretty good. Sloppy food, sloppy service. Poor quality. Mashed potatoes were grey...yes they were old and salty to hide the fact they were old. They are taking shortcuts and have gone way down in my opinion. Gave them second and third chances but it's the last. Too many other better places to try. Btw we had the salmon, the tuna, and the gorganzola steak. Yuk all of it. Shrimp coctail was a joke. Served with ice and lemon and very small shrimp. Calamari was chewy and tasteless. My colleague and I were passing through for work and this place was recommended by another co-worker. Menu was broad with lots of interesting dishes. We were hung up on the appetizer options. Prices are very reasonable and portions were very generous. We were quite hungry but had plenty of leftover and probably should have shared. The creole was tasty although not spicy enough for my palate (but I have a high tolerance). I got the lamb which was very tender and flavorful, cooked to perfection. The sweet pea risotto side was not as good but I make a mean one at home so tend to be particular about it. What I could have had more of was the roasted tomato fennel...totally to die for and perfectly paired with the lamb. My friend got the herbed crusted chicken which was also delicious but on the heave side. The home made desserts all looked delectable and the table next to us reported as much. But we did not try because we were too full. Would definitely recommend or return if I come back to the area. read more

First and last time at the Eastside Grill. It was a party of three and we waited over an hour for our food and it was only a Tuesday. Then when the food came out the steak was extremely bad prepared, dry and burned into black colour. Mind you I wanted my steak medium rare. I told the waitress that my steak is burned, I couldn't even cut it and to please take it back. Not only did she give us an attitude she also gave us bad service the rest of the night.
