Father's Day at Wiggins Tavern was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had. The restaurant advertised a price of $34.99, which was a major factor in our decision to dine there. However, when our party of four received the bill, the actual charges were dramatically different. We were charged $69.99 per person for dinner, plus a $54 service charge, a 20% gratuity, and tax, resulting in a bill of more than $350. My biggest issue is not necessarily the higher holiday pricing itself--restaurants are free to set their prices. The problem is that the Father's Day pricing was not clearly disclosed or prominently communicated before we ordered. Had we known the true cost, we would have made a different decision. Transparency matters. Customers should know exactly what they will be paying before they sit down and order, especially when holiday pricing nearly doubles the advertised rate and additional service charges and gratuities are automatically added. The food was acceptable, but it was completely overshadowed by the surprise bill and the feeling that important pricing information was not clearly communicated. Unfortunately, this experience left us feeling misled rather than appreciated on Father's Day. Done right as someone who has worked away through more Thanksgiving prix fixe menus and buffets I care to admit I can say with confidence that hotel Northampton delivered one of the most well executed holiday spreads I've experienced in Western Massachusetts. From the moment I stepped inside that historic lobby beautifully decorated for the season, warm, inviting and buzzing with celebratory energy, I knew I was in good hands. The staff had that polished anticipatory service style that instantly sets the tone for a seamless dining experience. The Thanksgiving buffet was thoughtfully, curated, and impeccably maintained throughout the seating. The carve of turkey was exceptionally moist, no small fete on a buffet line and the stuffing and mashed potatoes struck that perfect balance between upscale and comfort, familiar seasonal size or vibrant, fresh and clearly prepared with intention rather than filler. Special shout out to the carving station team who prepared a wonderful prime rib roast - they were not only efficient, but genuinely personable, the kind of hospitality that elevates a meal from good commemorable desserts, the pumpkin pie with a silky custard with just the right spice and the pecan pie was rich without being cloy. I may or may not have sampled more than one plate in the name of research. Service was consistently attentive without hovering. Plates were cleared promptly and check-in is perfectly timed. You can tell this team knows how to handle high volume holiday service while keeping the guest experience front and center. Beware of the bait and switch! This restaurant engages in false advertising regarding the price of their buffet! They advertised on their website that the buffet was $34.95 for an adult. However, when we got our bill, they charged us $59.95 for the buffet! Additionally, they tacked on a mandatory 20% service charge, even though no-one ever waited on us, and no one ever refilled our drinks or cleared our plates. When we complained to the cashier and the manager of the $59.95 charge for the buffet, neither one would reduce the buffet charge to the advertised $34.95 price. They are lying bandits! read more

Despite the recent negative reviews, we braved it because we really wanted a full buffet brunch experience and Wiggins Tavern did not disappoint. I haven't seen this type of lavish buffet since pre-pandemic and was truly impressed at the extensive options. Not everything was fantastic-- salmon was a bit fishy, the cinnamon cream tasted like it was Cool Whip to me, and the dessert buffet looked impressive but many of the desserts were the type that you get in bulk from your food service provider and defrost. However, the fruit salad, shrimp and (surprisingly!) green beans were very very good. We are pescatarian so a lot of the options weren't for us, but I still have no complaints about the variety and generally good quality. Everything was hot enough for us (despite previous diner's complaint). It's not an inexpensive meal, and I think you would get more bang for your buck as a carnivore here, but if you want to splurge on a nice Sunday buffet brunch in a cozy Colonial environment with extensive selection to keep everyone happy, I don't think you could do better than Wiggins Tavern. Was it the best breakfast we had in town? No, Jake's was better in terms of flavor and quality, but in terms of being able to make a reservation in advance and sit right down to our meal, Wiggins Tavern had the advantage there and would be the place I'd choose if I was there with older members of my family. read more

In late evening (9pm) for some after dinner drinks and a snack. The space is the original from the hotel's prior location in New Hampshire, moved piece by piece and lovingly reconstructed here. The beams, posts and 10ft wide fireplace are so cool and relaxing, and the faux gas fire is one of the best I have ever seen. We sat in arm chairs snd a small couch directly in front of the fireplace and Ryan (also tending bar) provided super service and all the background on the hotel and the space. We ordered a nice bottle of cabernet, and a wonderful fruit and cheese plate and sipped and chatted for an hour or more. So relaxing and a perfect end to our day. read more

My party of 3 attended Easter Brunch at Wiggins Tavern within the Hotel Northampton. We arrived on time for our scheduled reservation and waited for the host staff to relocate another party who were having issues. After being seated, we were eventually visited by our waitress. We ordered 2 coffees and and an Orange juice. We assumed these were complimentary, but they weren't. Very surprised as this has never been an upcharge at any event buffet we've ever attended. There were no sugar packets and I needed to ask a hostess for replenishment. The buffet food stations were lacking in variety, often empty and slow for replenishment. The serving utensils and dual food option serving trays were crosscontaminated meat/vegetarian options. The young staff and manager always seemed like they were disorganized and grouped together at the host station lacking any urgency to ensure stations were refilled or attended to. We, and many patrons were making requests for staff to refill or provide solutions to the buffet often needing attention with supply. The presentation of the food was cramped in tetris like spaces and no sensible order or flow to the lineup or patron line. The desert table offered 3 options and no plates or timely replenishment of the few options offered on the tiny table. After paying the $250 bill our credit card went missing with our waitress for a while. We were seated next to the pay station so this seemed odd. Our food/venue/service experience convinced us to cross this venue off our list of options for any future visits. The ultimate end to our visit was trying to ask the hotel host in the main public area where my wife could use an open working bathroom before departing, as the women's bathroom was yellow taped off for cleaning upon our arrival and when leaving the restaurant section. The staff was rude and outwardly bothered by our question. We left wondering how this overall experience was even a possibility given the expense/historical lyrics decent reputation..Gen Z.. new management? Arrived at this wonderful eatery ravenously hungry on the way from New Hampshire's Lake Region back home to Philadelphia, and as we were accompanied by our awesome furry son, Tango, we needed an al fresco place to eat. A quick check of Yelp revealed good reviews, so we and Tango went into their expansive patio overlooking the Northampton City Hall Green and with a superb look at the passers-by in their quaint and busy downtown. Service was superb, with the staff welcoming our awesome Black Lab effusively and Tango repaying the compliment by rolling on his back for a belly rub. We had one of the best al fresco tables on the patio. My partner ordered their cheeseburger and I ordered the featured Vegetarian Risotto. Yum. Really, really yum. The side salad was fresh and ample, and accompanied by freshly baked bread. Tango got a water bowl and several dog cookies. We did go inside separately to use the facilities and admired the grandeur of the Northampton Hotel and much of their grand old lobby which is now taken up by Wiggins. Worst Thanksgiving ever. Two pm reservation. Stood in buffet line like a Disney world ride. No food. Ran out of practically everything. Then while in line we are told to wait - they are doing their best. So do you stand there holding your plate holding up the line even longer. They had a horseshoe type buffet. So you had to wait in line walking past breakfast items on left which continued at end with salad and turkey dinner items at the right side. Why not have one side breakfast one side hot turkey meal, you could get out of line to go to hot turkey side. When I went, I waited in line for minimal 20 minutes, no prime rib, tiny ends of turkey, no roasted vegetables, no prime rib, stale rolls, no squash, cheese cake the size of two fingers. If you went back for seconds which was actually firsts because they ran out of everything, again same wait in line. Had to send my drink back. Don't do it. Horrible. I also know someone who went to the 11:00 seating and there was no food at that either so this isn't a situation where where they ran out of food at the end of the day. read more

My husband and I brought our family here for brunch. Everything looked delicious and our server was awesome. The only disappointment, and it was major, was that the only item that was truly hot was the coffee. All the breakfast items were a bit below lukewarm. Took my wife there for there Mothers-day brunch. Food was subparat best. They weren't very quick about replenishing anything either. Stuffed roast pork and chicken was so dried out I couldn't eat it. The staples like scrambled eggs and bacon were prepared properly. The Prime Rib was pretty good. Unfortunately the stuffed shrimp made me sick and spent the next 20 minutes in the men's room throwing up. $57 for a slice of prime rib, scrambled eggs, bacon , sausage, a slice of cold stale French toast and a trip to the men's room was way over priced! I emailed this fine establishment with my concerns and never received any kind of reply. I hate leaving reviews like this but it's quite obvious that Wiggins doesn't care as long as they get their money. I would hope it was a bad day for them but then again when you're charging those kind of prices for breakfast you're not allowed to have a bad day. The tavern has an old feel to it - it's a historic site and they've kept the charm of the lower ceiling and old wood while brightening up the room with recessed lighting. The brunch has an outstanding selection of breakfast and lunch choices (which I could only have some of the following): Omelette station, waffle station, ham and roast beef carving station, variety of breads, bagels croissants, pastry, jams, jellies, butter, cream cheese, nova lox, eggs benedict, french toast, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, jambalaya, couscous, grilled chicken, roasted spare ribs, apple cobbler, cheesecake variety, chocolate covered cream puffs, brownies.....and more. We stumbled upon this place during our travels. We sat in the patio and it was wonderful. The portions were very large and everything was brought out very hot. The service was excellent and they were extremely accommodating with our group of nine. The prices were very reasonable (for lunch) for the quality of the food. Sausage, two links of brown and serve. Yuck! Now for the best... one slice of bread thrown in the deep frier. French toast? Really. French toast is bread soaked in egg with vanilla, then cooked in a pan till golden. The syrup, right from a bottle with artificial flavor. Terrible!!!! What has happened to this place???? We went here two nights in a row - one for dinner and one for drinks at the bar. BOTH nights were miserably disappointing!! We waited and waited and waited at the hostess stand to be seated but no one ever arrived to help. We finally walked into the dining room and were told by a server to wait where we were before being seated. The food is WAY overpriced and NOT good - the kind of food you would expect at a chain restaurant. The service was even more appalling. The servers were no where to be found and consistently forgot to bring out drinks and condiments. I have NO IDEA how this place stays in business besides it's perfect location in town. We have attended events here in the past and the service has only gone downhill from the very poor service we received then. Beware of the Sunday Brunch as well - completely overpriced with lukewarm food that will make you sick for a day afterwards! And NOT handicap accessible, although they claim to be. Ordered a couple of omelettes for breakfast this morning at this "tavern" located in the upscale but aging Hotel. We were disappointed to receive plates featuring some kind of unknown egg like product with a strange non egg like consistency and no natural browning...basically some kind of artificial powdered scrambled egg like concoction we have all had before at tired breakfast buffets. The bacon was also disappointing. Our server was friendly and apologetic and offered to send the plates back and ask for real eggs. And the chef sent a message that if we had requested real eggs, he would have been happy to provide them. I simply suggest that they advertise omelettes made with egg like substitutes. This place is awesome! The food was delicious, I had the sea scallops and creme brûlée for desert. Also had a glass of Malbec with my dinner. The staff is very friendly and told us about some of the history of the building which was interesting. One of the facts was the tavern was disassembled Connecticut and then reassembled here in Massachusetts. We walked around and looked at some of the antiques which are about 300 years old. I also thought it was reasonably priced for a three hour rental plus buffet and private bar in the room. I would definitely recommend for any private event. This was our 2nd year at the Easter Sunday Morning Brunch. This year was a bit of a let down. There were several types of home made muffins on the buffet, but no one working knew what type they were. The staff behind the buffet weren't overly friendly, either. The biggest let down was when I approached the Belgian waffle table and discovered the whipped cream was Cool Whip! If that wasn't bad enough, all of the desserts that were topped with "whipped cream" were also topped with Cool Whip! Really? This review is based on their Sunday brunch. In the past the food quality seemed to be better. In our most recent visit it was average, average with a wide variety. It's a popular spot so it also can get crowded in the closed main 'serving' area. At ~$23 for an adult it really isn't worth the trip from Springfeld. The bill for our family of four (2 kids under 12) was over $80. If the food was truly top knotch we'd be OK with that on special occasions. The atmosphere is nice, it has a Revolutionary war era tavern feel. Low ceilings, fairly dimly lit, and a large (gas) fireplace. Wow! Such a variety of reviews here. I was attending a post-wedding next-day brunch, so we were part of a HUGE crowd. Obviously, it was a buffet, and this buffet was pretty impressive. The food was fresh and tasty, and there was a huge variety of meats, veggies, breakfast goods and an omelete station that served to perfection. On your way back to the table, your senses were ambushed by a table full of confections, of which I didn't partake but were apparently delicious. Service was quite good - friendly and attentive. This place is super cool and authentic looking! You wouldn't know it from the outside, but it's pretty spacious too and is great for groups. I've been in real taverns still running from the 1700's, and this was really quite similar and cozy-like. The food was good with great portions and delicious dessert too. If I could give the Thanksgiving Brunch 2022 no stars I would. I made reservations on October 18th. Upon arrival at the restaurant and giving the hostess my name I wax told we would be seated in the cafe. When I asked why we were being seated in the cafe instead of the tavern I was told that all the seating was preset. I told the hostess that I had made my reservations a month ago even before they advertised the brunch and wanted to sit in the tavern. She again told me that all the tables were preset and booked. I asked to see the manager. She told me she would get the manager. I waited a few minutes and the manager never came. I asked again for the manager and showed her my email confirmation from October 18th. She then amazingly was able to fit us in the a tavern. We sat down at our table and they asked what drinks we wanted but never explained how the buffet worked did we wait for plates? Could we just go up? I finally just got up and went to the Buffet. The salmon plate was empty, the quiche was iced cold, when I got to the chaffing dish with the turkey there was none. I asked the server at the carving table if there was more turkey. He rudely told me well if there is none you will have to wait. They finally came a few minutes later. I then asked where the gravy was and the other server waved at the gravies and said over there. I have been to buffets before they usually serve you the gravy, but no big deal. I then sat down to eat. The stuffing was ice cold and gritty and not moist or flavorful at all. The sweet potatoes were cold. The turkey was not real turkey. It was either turkey roll or deli turkey. I also had a piece of roast beef which the server carved from the end without cutting off the big chunk of fat at the end. The roasted vegetables were cold and wrinkled. The squash and the eggs Benedict were good. My daughter was in line behind me quite a few people. While she was in line the people on front of her wanted bacon and sausage...the changing dishes were empty. The woman asked the hostess and they were rudely told '' It is coming. If it's not there you have to wait Trays on a buffet should be filled immediately upon being empty. They never came to the table to check his the food was. They didn't fill our water glasses till we finally asked. My husband and ordered a Bloody Mary that was served in a glass that looked like a shot glass. Then we got up fir dessert. They had cheesecake that was cut in slices and then the slices were cut in half. The slices were about a half inch thick and about one inch long. They had a cake that was like a chocolate flourless cake. Those pieces were a 1/4 inch square if they. One pumpkin pie on the dresser table along with a few tiny tarts. They never came to ask if we wanted coffee or tea with dessert. I overheard another woman say they never came with alcoholic drinks. The price for the Buffett was 55 dollars a person. It was worth about twenty. Needless to say we didn't leave a tip. On the way out of the restaurant the hostess looked right at me and said nothing and then put her head down. In back of me was another family as they approached the hostess station she wished them Hapoy Thanksgiving and thanked them for coming. At that point I was very annoyed with the service, the hostess and food. I stopped at the desk of the hotel and asked to speak with the restaurant or hotel manager. I was told that the restaurant manager was at the hostess station. The exact woman who told me she would get the manager to address the table issue. I guess she had trouble finding herself when she told me she was waiting for the manager to come to speak to me about the table. I have been for both Thanksgiving and Easter Brunch before and the food and service was wonderful. This time they upped their price and the brunch was awful. Not going back. Besides being one of my favorite brunch places, we had my bridal shower there a few months ago. The service was awesome, food delicious and everyone had a great time. They were so accommodating to our party and didn't interfere at all. One of the staff members even helped us pack up the car after the shower. Pretty disappointed in my filet mignon I ordered today, which I don't blame the waitress for. I ordered my steak m.w., and it only had a smidge of pink. Which doesn't qualify for m.w.There was no season on the steak either and it tasted like it was boiled then grilled. Stayed there last Friday night , had a free continental breakfast. Cereal and fruit. We decided to order off the menu. Saturday morning . I was willing to pay full price for a bigger / tastier breakfast. Wrong ! I got the "homemade" hash and eggs . The has was worse than out of the can, the toast was burnt and my side of bacon was so over done I almost broke a tooth . My girl got the eggs Benedict. And she said it was terrible . My friends and I enjoyed brunch at Wiggins Tavern a couple weeks ago. I was a bit skeptical because it was a buffet, but I was pleasantly surprised. They had a bunch of wonderful options for both breakfast and lunch. I tasted a little bit of everything, letting my inner glutton shine. The quality of the food is average, but hot and the pans are constantly refilled. Our server, Liz, was so nice and constantly refilled our coffees and waters. Enrique, the omelet cook, was also helpful and on top of his game! He handled the meat carving station, omelette station, and waffle station all by himself on that busy Sunday. A bit pricey at $24.95 for us, but a nice experience. The atmosphere is a bit too old fashioned for my taste, as the building is historical, but the dining room is very dark and windowless. read more
