Came on a weekday at lunchtime. Place was completely empty. There were two signs that read OPEN. Came in and spent ten minutes waiting for someone. The interior is calm, mainly wooden with Thai sculptures and photos. We gave up on waiting and ordered online. We were given a 15min estimate on the website (and it took 20 min). After ordering online, an employee appeared. We were kindly offered to sit down and eat our meal but we were in a rush and had to go. I ordered a wonton pad thai with prawns; I had no idea there wouldn't be any noodles at all, it was only wonton strips. The prawns were large but had an unpleasant taste, either because they'd been frozen too long or because of how they were farmed or I don't know what. read more

I only give this place three stars because it's super expensive. Like for one person in order to have a couple of beers a sweet entrée and maybe some spring rolls will cost you like $45. I actually just upped my rating from three star is a four stars because it is open until two in the morning even the bar on weekends. A lot of people from around the Berkeley area and even El Cerrito and Albany area apparently frequented a lot which I was surprised about because it's gonna pour away but it's the only thing open until two in the morning all week around and it's pretty decent Thai food. I used to get the beef fried rice on Friday there but then they started putting light too much ridiculous amount of eggplant in the shit to try to mask that they didn't have a lot of beef in there so that turned me off big time so I switch to like the red curry jasmine rice veggie spring rolls combo but with a couple of seahorse beers $45 man with a man I mean if you're looking to get celebrate something you could go here or if you're really super desperate late at night before two any day of the week go for it. My other half and I went to dinner here for the first time on a weeknight. We were greeted by warm and friendly staff and were allowed to choose where we wanted to sit. The inside of the restaurant is very spacious and well decorated. Each table is also spaced far away enough from the other which allows enough privacy among diners, a big plus in our book. We ordered the pad see ew (with chicken), panang beef curry, and (my favorite) pineapple fried rice. All was delicious, well portioned, and plated beautifully. For beverages, he ordered a freshly made mojito and then followed with a Singha beer to accompany the meal. I ordered jasmine tea at first but the owner (Alisa) recommended that I have the green tea instead because it's "better". She was right, the green tea tasted better and what surprised me even more is that the tea was served in a very elegant teacup and saucer (sorry but I forgot to take photos). Last weekend, on a rainy Saturday, I had lunch here with a friend of mine. Now finding this place from Concord isn't difficult. Using my GPS, it was all very straightforward. Parking in Berkeley is always an adventure. The city loves street parking. It love their parking garages. It loves charging for their parking. My friend got this dish with eggplant, tofu, and brown rice. I chose my go to Thai food. I got yellow curry with chicken and brown rice. WHOA, my friend ate all his food so quickly. I, on the the hand, didn't. Not because the food wasn't good. It was because there was so much to eat. Not only did I get what I order, I also got a side salad, an appetizer, and a slice of an orange. Now for all of this, was the price fair? I think it was. We ordered from the lunch money after all. The total game out to around $19ish dollars. Wonderful! My only gripe about this place was the service. It started out good at first. When we weren't ready to order, the waitress was attentive. She got us our drinks. But after our food was given to us, she was nowhere to be found. When we wanted a refill of our drinks, we had to ask ANOTHER waiter to get it. This happened with just about everyone we need during our meal. The food was delightful, but the service could and should have been better. I don't think I will come back to this place because I've had better Thai than this (even if their Thai food was good) and I've definitely had better service than this. The place seemed pretty clean and up to date. There weren't many people eating so we were seated right away. I ordered the pad thai and my husband the peking duck. It wasn't the best pad thai I'd ever have, but it was decent. My husband said the duck was pretty good. The service is ok. We felt a little awkward in the restaurant to be completely honest. What a great place! I arrived right as they opened And was greeted warmly. The menu was so organized and displayed each category of food really well. It was easy to follow for someone who wasn't very experienced with what Thai food is. I ordered the fresh rolls. Excellent presentation and so tasty! The peanut sauce was different then I had had before. It was not creamy it was dinner with chunks of peanut. Tasty but it didn't cover the fresh roll that I dipped into the sauce very well. Different not bad. I have noticed at these sort of places that some of them call them fresh rolls and some of them call them spring rolls. Eggrolls are always fried. Spring rolls are sometimes ride. Fresh rolls are never fried and sometimes not mentioned on the menu because I'm establishment means spring rolls for fresh rolls. So if you want fresh rolls, I recommend pointing to the picture on the menu and let the waiter know that's what you want. If you want something fried, ask if the item is fried especially if there is not a photo. With the current menu changes, it's very easy to ensure you are ordering what you want before placing the order And then actually getting what you want. The mango salad was the best I've had outside of my own kitchen! The dressing was excellent and I'm glad I ordered it on the side So that I could confirm that I liked it and that it wasn't too sweet. It was perfect! The waiter, I think his name is Joseph, was excellent! Very friendly, very helpful, very kind, And took great pride in his restaurant. It was very nice to meet a waiter like that. This place was suggested on my door dash hunt, so I decided to give them a try. I ordered the chicken pad thai and an order of the mango sticky rice. I was super hungry, so I was really looking forward to my meal. Sadly, the pad thai was just subpar in flavor and the chicken was really tough. Since I was so hungry I pushed through anyway, but it definitely wasn't worth the calories/carbs. I've had way better at Pei Wei. The mango sticky rice had a decent flavor, but the rice was over worked which didn't make for a great texture experience. I called to ask if there happened to be some sort of seasoning that could explain the bitterness and was told the pepper is what made it bitter. This location has some significance for me since it was the first place I ever ate Thai food, back in the 1980's when it was Siam Cuisine. At the time, the interior looked like a failed steakhouse, only remodeled to resemble something more authentically Indochinese late in that decade. The food was so good that friends and I ate there with uncommon frequency, often every week. I was always fond of the attention to detail in both the quality of the food and its presentation. I also remember the spiciness of several dishes that had me running for the Fosters Old-Fashioned Freeze next door, dodging local ladies of the night to cool my tongue on softy ice cream dips. Fast forward thirty years. Siam Cuisine had changed hands a few times and about four years ago became Eat@Thai. I had not been inside for about 10 years, so when a friend and I returned, I was hopeful of something reminiscent of my first brush with the flavors of Thailand. I knew we were in trouble the instant we walked in the door. The interior was still beautifully appointed, but at 8 pm on a Thursday night, the place was absolutely empty. For our entire meal, lasting about an hour, we saw only one other customer come in to grab a pick up order. There were also some very odd dishes being advertised (e.g., Coca Cola Ribs), which were harbingers of nothing good. Nevertheless, we sat down. The waitress was friendly, attentive and helpful, and we ordered an appetizer and two entrees. The food came out in quick order and all were visually appealing. There, sadly, the positive ended. The dishes ranged from mediocre to poor. We began with a Tom Kha soup (not my fave, but my friend says it's usually his "test" dish for the quality of Thai places). There was nothing offensive about it, but it was quite bland and uninteresting. We left it unfinished. Our entrees were a Pa-nang curry with beef and the Pad Eggplant with chicken (a basil offering that I usually consider my "test" dish). The Pa-nang was, if anything, blander than the soup. I expected its quite distinctive taste and got what amounted to a flavorless brown sauce. Our second dish was worse. While the spicing was better than the curry, the eggplant was not fresh and the chicken was exceedingly dry. A small point, too: while the rice tasted alright, the texture suggested something less than freshly made. In all, a really disappointing experience. Were I to sum up this review in one sentence, it would have to be "Don't Eat@Thai." read more

First time eating here and we will return. We met some friends here and we all loved our dishes. Our friends had eaten here before. My guy had the pad Thai and pronounced it among the best. I had the Spicy eggplant with chicken medium spicy and it was the best I have had in Berkeley. The medium spicy was perfect unlike most of the other Thai places where it is too mild. So be aware of the spice level. The veggies in the dish were fresh and perfectly cooked as was the chicken! And the sauce is addictive. Their Thai fried rice changed! Before, the grain of rice they used seemed sticky and extra chewy (similar to Japanese rice), a type of texture that stands out compared to other fried rices from other Asian restaurants. Bring back the old style Thai fried rice (otherwise, I'm better off buying equally as delicious fried rice for less at a different restaurant). I am so confused that this place has only 3 stars! We have eaten at so many different Thai restaurants since we moved here 8 years ago, hoping to find "the one" but they were all coming up short.
