Eataly is expanding so much, but thankfully the quality didn't suffer at this smaller outpost in midtown. My iced cappuccino was quite good, Eataly consistently serves up delicious espresso. At this location they also have gelato right next to the front counter; some of the usual food (panini, sandwiches), and additional seating in the back. It's a clean space with lots of lighting, but given the location, it's not easy to find a seat, even with the additional area in the back. But at least there's a (locked) restroom for customers! read more

Returned to Eataly for dessert and coffee and, as always, the cafe was full of buzzing patrons. Service is always quick, cordial, and unrushed. We enjoyed the following: Bombolone Al Pistachio. This pastry had a sweet/creamy pistachio center and the size was acceptable. The other selection was the Quadratino Al Cioccolato. Even though it was on the small size, it had a rich chocolate top layer, a hazelnut layer, and a crunchy bottom layer. What impressed me with this visit was the coffee. We had small Mocha Lattes and they were VERY GOOD. I enjoyed the perfect blend of creamy, mocha, and that world renowned Lavazza coffee. I know, I know. I know it's a chain. But I cannot write reviews that just agree with the masses; I have to give my unbiased opinion, right? So, I'm just going to tell you the truth... The truth is that we loved starting our day in NYC here so much, we did it twice. It is chic. It is polished. It is clean. A hop, skip, & a jump from Rockefeller Center, & across the street from NBC Studios/The Rainbow Room. 5 stars for ambience, & 5 stars for location. Between the floor to ceiling windows, & the fare that is so beautifully on display, it's all transportive. So much so, that despite being VERY busy, the space is actually somehow calming. Standing room only at peak times is the norm here, but there is more seating in the back. Just meander your way past the artful display cases. Do what we did, divide & conquer. Once we knew what we wanted, I went to the back to secure a banquette table while hubs stood in line & ordered for us. OMG the Roman Style pizzas! Sooo pillowy. Bursting with flavor. Pesto was superb. And some of the best mortadella I've ever had. Ever. Bombolone...also soooo pillowy. Melt in your mouth. I closed my eyes & I was back in Italy. Divine. I tried a couple of their specialty lattes. I always appreciate ingenuity in everyday things, & I'm glad I tried them, but the coffee isn't the star here, it's THE FOOD. The cannoli I had here was genuinely one of the worst I have ever tasted. The shell was soft and mushy instead of crisp, and the filling tasted really bad. I am not sure if it was old or if something else was wrong with it, but it was bad enough that everyone in my group refused to eat it. It was also pretty expensive, which made it even more disappointing. If the cannoli is indicative of the rest of the food here, I would have a hard time recommending this place. It's a quick-service cafe offering: -sweet & savory pastries -coffee & drinks (100% Arabica blend roasted in Italy) -an artisanal gelato bar -grab-and-go options (salads, paninis, soups, pastas, Roman-style pizza alla pala) -a limited selection of Italian retail items Prices are very high due to its prime Midtown Manhattan location. The ambiance is inspired by Italian street cafes--stylish, modern, lively, bustling. Seating can sometimes be hard to find because of heavy tourist traffic. We visited on a Saturday in the early evening, and as expected, it was packed! Any business hoping to succeed in NYC needs to handle high customer volumes efficiently. It's essential. They nailed it that day. The staff kept the line moving and orders flowing, and we waited less than 10 minutes. Honestly, I expected it to take longer. You can also order ahead on their app, and the grab-and-go section has its own self-checkout. We ordered: *Small Hot Mocha Latte (~$7) - I looooooove me a mocha! It had a great balance of bold espresso, velvety steamed milk, and rich chocolate. It was sweet, with just enough bitterness from the coffee. Some mocha lattes are either too sweet and end up tasting like hot chocolate, or too bitter with not enough cocoa coming through. This one hit the spot--not too coffee-forward, not too chocolate-forward. *Bombolone Al Pistacchio [fried Italian-style doughnut filled with pistachio cream] (~$7) - I am a donut monster, so I had high hopes... and it delivered! The outside was lightly crispy and sugar-coated, while the inside of the dough was pillowy and airy with a subtle buttery flavor. It was generously filled with a silky pistachio spread. It wasn't overly sugary and had that distinct nutty, earthy, and roasted flavor. A perfect treat if you want dessert without a sugar overload. *Quadratino Al Cioccolato [chocolate, cream, hazelnut] (~$3) - A more decadent option! This small chocolate cake square reminded me of a Ferrero Rocher in cake form. The top layer was thick and creamy, almost like fudge that just melted on your tongue. Mmmmm. The bottom layers were packed with crunchy hazelnut. I really wish it were bigger... it was so tiny, I could've popped that bad boy in my mouth in one bite. Is this a good spot to stop by for a quick bite or drink? Yes. A place to visit regularly? Probably not... unless your wallet can handle it ;) The pastries and drinks are solid, but not the best you'll find in NYC, and the portions don't justify the price. This place was great! I was in need of a pick-me-up before work, and Eataly hit the spot. My friend and I got caprese focaccia sandwiches, iced lattes, and a pastry (I got a croissant filled with apricot jam). Everything was great! This caffe is a smaller version of Eataly. Did not realize they will open up a small Eataly caffe here until I got here. Very cool decor inside. Very fancy and clean! Service was very nice too. The staff was very attentive to my concerns and got to it when I requested my pick up order. They made sure I had my order in a prompt manner and correctly. Love how they have a self checkout kiosk to scan and bag your purchase from the cold and hot fridge sections. Their shopping tote bag is now orange, blue, and white compared to the past when they provided a brown paper tote bag. I'm really into shopping bags and love to collect them when the design is very unique. I love their burrata cheese pizza slices here. The cheese tastes so good. Very soft and creamy. It's just very pricey though with the burrata cheese compared to their other pizza slices without this cheese. I came here this time to try their maple latte. It was very good quality because it was not sugary and you can taste the maple. A touch of maple with espresso. I also got two pistachio croissants with few pieces of pistachio on top of the croissant. They were very big! I just didn't realize that there would be cream inside the croissant or else I would not have gotten it. I didn't really like the cream that much. It was a lot of cream and so liquid gooey that it spilled onto my hands and pants! What a hassle! I ordered a large, knowing it was $9.50 but the size you get for the price isn't necessary worth it for this drink in my opinion. Love the new addition to Eataly locations around the city. I visited them during their opening weekend and loved the small cafe by Rockefeller. They offer lots of ready to eat dishes to be warmed up and eaten. They also have a gelato bar to grab a nice cold and sweet dessert. They were giving free mini cones of gelato of choice during opening weekend as a promotion which was cool. I got the pistacchio flavor which was creamy and rich in flavor. Big line and not a lot of time? No problem. Just before the dining area in the back there is a quick and shop area where you can grab drinks and a few prepackaged meals and check yourself out. I do think it's a bit heavily priced, but it also is higher quality items. Came into Eataly to grab something quick to eat after the Today show concert series and was delighted to stumble upon this gem! The inside is beautifully decorated with lots of places to sit and great air conditioning. The staff here were super friendly and the service was super speedy which was great! Their selection of parties, sandwiches, pizzas, and gelato was all mouth watering, but I ended up getting a Caprese Panino. It was absolutely delicious! It truly was one of the best I have had. Everything was pretty good. It was just very expensive for the amount of food. The place is really cute though. It was still pretty busy even though it was later in the night. The food was delicious, the portions perfect, the staff were friendly and well organized and the price was fair. The cons: The place was a crowded maze. Navigation is not intuitive and signage is not adequate. The layout of the tables made the atmosphere difficult to relax while enjoying a meal due to the constant flow of customers and staff. This one fact kept the establishment from receiving five stars. The bottom line: This is a place that takes time to explore and appreciate. Very disappointing experience at the Eataly café at 1230 Avenue of the Americas. We paid nearly $50 for two REGULAR coffees, two slices of pizza, and one very small slice of cake (100 grams). After paying, we were given our food but no trays, and every table was occupied, so we had to walk around the crowded café holding plates and looking for a place to sit. When we finally found a table, my disabled adult son needed to use the restroom. There was only a single mixed line for the bathroom, so he had to stand with ladies and wait in slow moving line (typical for ladies room line) just to use the toilet. When he finally returned, his REGULAR coffee was still not ready. Staff told me they would call his name when it was ready, but they never did. I had to go back and ask for it myself. We were also not given utensils, milk, cream, or sugar. I had to walk around the café searching for these items, and when I finally found them they were placed directly above garbage containers. The most disturbing part was that people who appeared to be begging were allowed to approach customers inside the café. One man came to our table and aggressively demanded my son's food. When I told him we had finished eating and suggested he ask the manager if food could be provided, he started yelling that we should buy him food with our "own money" and accused us of being racist. Allowing people to approach customers inside the café and aggressively demand food creates an unsafe and extremely uncomfortable situation, especially for someone with a disability. Management should ensure that paying customers can eat without being harassed. read more

Discriminatory Experience with Employee Drew I visited the Eataly Caffé at Rockefeller Center with my service animal and was extremely disappointed by the treatment I received from an employee named Drew. After placing an order, I went to pay at the register. Drew, who was ringing me up, rudely remarks, "You know dogs aren't allowed here or in restaurants," to which I calmly explained that I know and that he is a service animal. Drew fulfilled our order, but then again made a condescending remark: "Just so you know, it is New York City law." At that point, I reiterated--again--that he is a service animal. The repeated questioning and tone were dismissive, condescending, and discriminatory. It's troubling that staff at such a high-profile location are not properly trained in ADA compliance (actual New York City law) or basic decency. Unacceptable experience. read more
