First let me say that the difference between a chef and a cook becomes apparent quickly when dining here. Not only do they make everything - including non gmo, gluten free options - but the presentation of the dishes (my salad especially) takes the enjoyment factor even higher. Small sandwich shop located in downtown Galveston. Parking is limited. Don't park in the empty lot next door because you will get towed. The menu has a selection of sandwiches, paninis, salad, and soups. I had the turkey panini which came topped with bacon and white cheddar. For your side you have the choice of salad or kettle chips. There are only 10 tables (only 4 seat four people the rest are two tops ), bar seating, and some bistro Yankees outside. The only reason I wouldn't go five stars is it took a little longer than expected. Which if you have time or don't have starving children it would be fine. It wasn't an absurd amount of time and they did bring bread and a cheese spread after some time. The other reason is it is one of those restaurants that you walk into and don't know what to do. I use to love this place when I lived off post office st and would go there all the time! Unfortunately, the new owners have ruined the atmosphere for sure. As you will see in some reviews below they are very rude to you if you walk in with young children. Something that was never an issue before. As soon as I walked in with my daughters they mean mugged us and acted like we were a huge inconvenience. Ridiculous eye rolls, huffing and puffing, talked to a rude tone of voice, and would not accommodate us at all. Of course, we just walked right out after that behavior. Nothing but negative energy in a space where you would like to enjoy a meal with your family? No thanks! Instead we went to Maceos down the street and were quickly reminded how a genuine and authentic business owner runs their restaurant. He had the warmest greeting and immediately threw some tables together for us (even though they were busy) smiled at the children and accommodated everyone! Their food was WAY WAY better too! This is my third time. The first two times would be 5 stars easily. Food and atmosphere are great. However this time I came with my family, which includes a 3 year old and a 1 year old. Immediately I received unhappy looks by one of the waiters when walking in. After we sat down and ordered drinks another server said to us they have no kids menu. This is fine with us and I already knew this. What's not fine is there was no comment about not having a high chair when I'm clearly struggling holding my one year old in my lap. They brought us drinks for the kids with no lid and after I asked for straws, the waitress quickly informed us there were no straws. After waiting another 10 minutes, no one came over to get our order. I have no problem if you want to be a child free establishment. But don't be fucking passive aggressive about it. Just state it clearly. Otherwise this was the worst customer service I have ever received at any restaurant. I have waited tables and worked in different style restaurants and would have handled this issue much better. You don't have kids, go and enjoy the sandwiches. You do have kids under 5, this is not the place for you. I won't be coming back with or without my kids. Too bad because the Cuban was pretty solid. read more

So on my recent trip down to Galveston, we were wandering around the strand historical district and were starving for food, so pull up the yelp app and what is near by? A place with a 4 1/2 star average? AND a raving 5 star from one of my favorite foodies, yeah, I'm looking at you Gretchen, and I was sold. It was just a few blocks over from where we were. When you enter, you would not expect this type of restaurant down in Galveston. It seemed like a place that would fit right into a Montrose/Westheimer location. It's quite small inside with about 10 tables. We came for lunch and I had the smoked salmon sandwich and my gf had the smoked mozzarella with grilled eggplant. Usually the only time I've had eggplant is deep fried, so I liked how they were able to present it in a healthier way and still keep all the flavor. For $15.00 I got what looked to be a quarter a sandwich, less than half a cup of 'salad' (lettuce with dressing) and a small container of soup that was missing the topping. Eat Cetera has very fresh ingredients, freshly prepared and it looks as good as it tastes. I believe that food should appeal to all of your senses, and at this restaurant that is very true. One of the great things I like about Eat Cetera. is that they always have several good vegan options. There is usually at least one vegan soup, plus several options on their normal menu. All around fabulous! The environment was perfect for my solo Saturday lunch & the service was impeccable. I started with a cup of the soup if the day, a chick pea & sweet potato mix. I asked if it was cream based and was informed it was vegan. It arrived plated beautifully with two crispy grilled toasts and surpassed my expectations on flavor. Next to arrive was the complementary blue cheese spread and more toast. I wanted to lick the dish when I reached the bottom! So delicious! Then my main course was promptly presented including a fresh tossed salad (sans iceberg...thank goodness) and a warm panini. Haven't tried their more "exotic" salads or sandwiches yet, but food is definitely a notch above most of the selections on the island, and wasn't expensive at all (a high $ or low $$). Customers seemed mostly Galveston locals today, though I've heard tourists, UTMB employees, etc also stop by. Service was busy but friendly, though there weren't that many people here today. The 5 is my request to bring more of these types of places to Galveston. Having been in the SFBay area for 4 years, this place really reminds me of the places over there in California, which is a great departure from overcooked, fried, greasy stuff that's all over the restaurants and tourists traps over here. I came here for lunch with a coworker and immediately remembered being here for lunch a couple of years ago. It's a small, quaint little place with a varied menu of sandwiches, paninis, and salads. My coworker told me, which I remembered, that the sandwiches and paninis are mostly bread with little filling, so we each ordered a salad. He got a fancy kale salad and I got the sobu, which was arugula, noodles, seared tofu, carrots, and snap peas with a ginger miso dressing. It takes awhile for the food to arrive, so beware. While we were waiting, our server brought us some toasted bread with a blue cheese cream cheese dressing, which was good. The presentation is beautiful, but the salads are small for the price ($10) and hard to eat. My salad was more noodle than salad, which was disappointing. Our server was nice, so there's that. I just wasn't really impressed and I remember having the same thought the last time I was there. But the place was clean, and the food was fresh and healthy, so it gets an extra star for that. read more

The owners were so nice and even served us our food bc their waitress was given the holiday week off to spend with her family. What an awesome example of the kindness and appreciation of the owners to their staff. They accommodated is and our munchkins graciously! For the price you would expect a hardier sandwich, not enough meat or flavor. Two orders were messed up and once delivered, the eggplant in the sandwich was well undercooked. No one experienced a better than average meal and frankly, overwhelmingly disappointed. Because of the party of six, a gratuity of 20% was applied to the bill for a meal that should not have been half its price for service you could get at a fast food restaurant.
