This is my husband and my favorite Thai place in the area (and outside of the area too)! Every time I try Thai food elsewhere I realize how much I love this place... no where else comes close. We usually get the same stuff... shrimp pad thai, beef kee Mao, and shrimp penang. I recently went out of town for a business trip and was craving thai food so naturally I yelped the best in the area- I was willing to drive a good distance too. I've been a regular at the Thai House in Gaithersburg, so I was pleasantly surprised to know that they had opened up another shop in Rockville, and couldn't wait to try it out. The verdict: yes, it's as good as the one in Gaithersburg, in terms of the food. The ambiance remains that of a tiny yet decent place. We managed to hop in kind of late, but they agreed to serve us, and the food came out in minutes. The server was kind and understanding, and did stop by several times to ask if we're doing okay, and if we needed anything else. I've only had the spicy crispy chicken and green curry so far, but both are amazing and I crave them far too often. My only gripe: If I am craving pick-up on the way home from work... We went to dine on this past Friday for a change of pace from our usual spots when we come to visit mom. The restaurant is very small and the single female server was polite friendly and efficient. The food was served at proper temperatures and flavorful. All our requests were honored. The only item we ordered that was underwhelming was the "Spring Roll." This item was bland and flavorless, it was served hot and fresh but apparently must have not been made by the chef, as all other items ordered were full of flavor. The soup had a GREAT complex taste and was served in boles that could easily feed 2 or more, but I managed to finish my own and then some. The "Hot and Spicy Eggplant" was requested medium and had just the perfect flavor and was more than sufficient to share. We had 2 other dishes as well that were served hot, fresh and prepared as requested. Each dish was served with a side of rice which was just sufficient for the 3 of us. OMG-fantastic! just the right amount of sweet/spicy chocked full of meat and the huge, wide handmade noodles are amazing. The YUM WON SEN is a cold appetizer (looks similar to an egg-roll)- thin, soft white rice paper wrapper rolled-up with shrimp, lettuce and cellophane noodles inside served with a peanut/lime sauce. You'll really enjoy that too. My friends tell me that their sister restaurant located on Muncaster Mill Road in Gaithersburg, MD is also great. I highly recommend you try this place. Quick pick up when you are just craving Thai food. The drunken noodles are always extremely good. The prices are on par with all of the other local Thai food. The only down that I have had with this restaurant was that the pad Thai was a little mushy and didn't taste that good. I would say normally the pad Thai is pretty delicious but from my last experience I probably will not be getting it for a while. Solid panang curry and green curry! Great meal at a reasonable price for sure. 3 out of 4 spice was HOT!! The place is a hole in the wall that doesn't hold more than 25 people or so, but it's well maintained and the food was worth going back for. All 3 dishes were incredibly sweet. And I don't mean awesome sweet. Nauseatingly sweet. Grab some ice cream from your freezer and coat it with sugar and chocolate syrup, then do it again. That's about half as sweet these dishes tasted, and I'm only exaggerating a tiny bit. All 3 were left unfinished. We didn't even want to take it back home. You know I wanted to like this place since it had been Thai Tavern years ago. My mom and my brother got the Duck Rolls, which they continued to rave about all evening. The portions were large but the prices had also gone up. The chicken in my mom's Pad Thai was dry, and the chicken in my soup needed to be cut into smaller pieces- I looked like a messy idiot trying to cram all that soup and chicken in my mouth. The food just didn't have the flavor that most Thai food is known for, and wasn't as spicy as I asked for. Not that I ask that my food be hotter than Hell, but spicy should suffice. The bathrooms? However, food has since become inconsistent - most times it's good, but once in a while it's not on par (had 2 instances in the past year where we had to send the dishes back). Me and my husband had food here a week ago. It was awesome!! Very authentic Thai food. I love duck roll, so delicious and Thai ice tea!! OMG! It's so good!! Having spent 18 months in Thailand during the war I was surprised to fine a Thai restaurant that has fried rice like I had in Thailand. My kids love the food and my son loves the Panang chicken. My Korean wife loves the vegetarian phad thai. The place is small with a homey feel. Love it. read more
