I was visiting my parents about two weeks ago and was craving chicken and waffles. I found Eats Uptown. It did not disappoint. We visited on a weekday, which was not busy at all, thank God. I went with my mom, who has never tried this place at all, even after living here for a year now, lol. Anyway, we had an amazing waiter. I forgot her name, but she was the sweetest server and was very attentive. They have a bar and plenty of tables and even have seating upstairs, which overlooks the restaurant. I ordered their Chicken & Waffles, which you can choose between a half chicken, chicken wings, or tenders. I was bummed cause they were out of the wings, so I opted out of the half chicken. Chicken & Waffles was amazing, and the chicken was really tasty and was cooked perfectly. Amazing seasoning and was very juicy, I definitely enjoted this chicken & waffles. This meal did not come with any sides, so keep that in mind, but this meal was more than enough that the sides would've been too much for me. My mom ordered the Southern Catsifh with mac and cheese, sweet potato, and cornbread. This meal was also really good. The fish was cooked well and seasoned well, and the sides were very good. I ordered another mac and cheese and okra to eat at the house, which I enjoyed very much. All in all, Eatz Uptown has great food, amazing customer service, and an amazing experience. Other than Memphis Nins and traveled throughout the south. This barbecue is literally exceeding any expectation I could've possibly had. If you're in the area, you really need to come here. It's better than Memphis, better than Little Rock, better than Asheville, North Carolina. We had the ribs, the catfish, collard greens baked beans and just kept going from there looking for a hole in the menu and couldn't find it. It's literally incredible. I'm walking out of here with 2 quarts of barbecue sauce. How are guide screeners you end up with such tender ribs with a perfectly executed crisp on the meat I don't know I've never seen it before and I used to judge Memphis in May barbecue literally such a hidden gem! read more

I had been wanting to try this place for so long! We called in a lunch order for pickup and it was so good! Don't let the price scare you, the portions are large. We stopped here on a road trip and rightly depended on the great Yelp reviews. We had wonderful food prepared with obvious pride - inexpensive but so satisfying. We had fried catfish and fried chicken, crispy and flavorful with zero greasiness. Collards were tender while retaining a bite and just the right balance of seasonings. Mac'n'cheese ranked with the best homemade we've had and not too salty. My husband is somewhat of a cole slaw connoisseur and was amazed at how good it tasted. You may be eating with plastic on styrofoam (this place is also a caterer, that's how good this stuff is), but silver cutlery and china couldn't make it any more enjoyable. And the place is clean and well-kept, another sign of the pride they take. We were warmly greeted with friendly service and thanked as we left. I'll start with the positive, It was clean! Service: Our waiter was very nice but service was not his specialty. We never saw him after our food was served, No drink refills offered. After finishing our meal and sitting for 10 or more minutes we finally asked another waitress for our check. Food: The food, large portions, 0 taste- the meatloaf, macaroni and collard greens all had the same flavor- which was a bland nothingness. The baked beans tasted like canned Pork n' beans without the pork. The cornbread was straight from a box of JIFFY CORNBREAD MIX. The salt and pepper shakers were large which was much needed to give this dish flavor. My take: Don't waste your time or hard earned money read more

I got this order to go so I didn't get the ambiance experience, but the service I had there (even thought it was short) was great. Though this was my first visit and it was a to-go order, the food (at least what I ordered, this was my first time eating there) is questionable. I got Jerk Chicken, collard greens, and Mac and cheese. The chicken was tender and fell right off the bone, but the jerk seasoning was aight, definitely not authentic though. The collard greens needed a lil bit more salt, but was cooked perfectly. The Mac and cheese however, is what gave me this low of a rating despite it being a to-go order. When I first took a bite, I thought It was mixed in with something else on my plate. It tasted like someone had mistaken sugar for salt because of how sweet it was. Let alone how sweet it was, it was dry. I will give benefit of the doubt considering it was a to-go order on that, but I'm only willing to try this restaurant one more time before recommending it to people who have a similar taste palette to me. Eatz was everything I hoped for & a lot I have missed since moving to the mountains from the deeper South. I couldn't resist the vegetable plate cause honestly I couldn't narrow it down to a few sides so I had to add extra ... plus a banana pudding to top it off. The service was perfect- available but not in your face. Only thing missing was the Mac & cheese BUT I love that they were making it fresh and it wouldn't be ready at the time I ordered. Eatz is back! I only got to eat there once in the original location, so I was excited to try it again here. The food overall was pretty good, I don't think it will blow anyone away, but it isn't trying to, it just is good soul food. It's simple, effective, and executed well. I left feeling like I had gotten a hug from somebody's grandma, and that's exactly how soul food should make you feel. The owner was super nice, and seemed like the kind of dude with a million stories. I felt the love in this place and will be back. My only nitpick is that the collared greens needed some seasoning, and the baked mac and cheese just wasn't quite creamy enough, but it's excellent crispy top more than made up for that. The jerk chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, cat fish, and cornbread were very very delicious. Everything on here is absolutely delicious the sides are wonderfully done the service is excellent the atmosphere is nice. My wife had the fried catfish with baked sweet potato (small extra charge for potatoes) with coleslaw and corn bread. My husband and I ate here on Tuesday at 1:00. Two other diners and the owner were present. A young waiter came out and seated us immediately. He was kind and attentive. Husband ordered the fried catfish with collard greens and mac and cheese for sides. I ordered fried chicken, collard greens, and soup beans (I had to ask what these were - they're pinto beans in a savory broth). What amazed me was this: after we ordered, my husband went to the restroom (not to poop, but just to wash up) and our food was brought out hot and fresh before he got back! Now that's fast! I was very happy with everything on my plate. The fried chicken was thinly breaded, very crispy and flavorful. I tried my husband's catfish and it was crispy and flakey. I had a slight preference for his dish over mine, but both were very good. The collard greens were nice and vinegary and the soup beans were flavorful. By the time we left, the restaurant had seated 3-4 more groups of customers. Overall impressions: well-prepared food, fast and friendly service, very good value.
