A caveat to my review. I've only ever sat at the bar, and never ordered a full dinner. That said, it is one of my favorite places to go, the bartenders are amazing, and they have a brilliant selection of drinks, try the Vesper with Barr Hill and Grey Goose, a complete treat and a great way to relax. My friends who've been with me have been shocked, we may not be the normal cliental, but hopefully I can bring more people interested in good drinks and a place you can actually sit, and have a conversation, a rarity in Vermont Bars it won't be so intimidating. Yes, you will be paying more than average, but the drinks you get will be stellar, the bartenders welcoming and fantastic, and to be honest, the best steak tartare I've had in town! read more

When Hen of the Wood was jam packed by 4:30, we called an audible and did a quick Yelp search for "steakhouse". This appeared and the first few reviews were decent enough, so off we went (a scant 5 block walk). We had reservations, but chose to sit at the bar instead. We arrived right at 5 and there was no one there. By the time we left there were a couple of other patrons at the bar and maybe a table or two in the dining room. Beer selection is limited, but they did have Heady Topper. Bourbon selection was smaller than I'd expected for a steakhouse, too. We went with Basil Hayden and Bulleit Rye, along with the appetizer special, Steak Tartar. I've never had steak tartar before so I've nothing to compare it to, but the presentation was fantastic. For dinner, I went with the Chef's Surf and Turf, medium rare, and my husband selected the ribeye, also medium rare, and crispy red potatoes. My filet was cooked a touch past medium rare, but still delicious. The garlic mashed potatoes were sinful and the lobster tail just ok. I would skip the seafood next time (duh, steakhouse) and stick with beef. The ribeye was perfectly cooked and the crispy potatoes were great. I had dinner there last night with two friends. The waitstaff was so incredibly friendly and accommodating. We were sure there would be at least a one hour wait. The hostess asked us how long we thought we were going to stay. We told her no more than an hour and a half. She actually reconfigured several reservations and fit us in. Then, the dinner was fabulous. I ordered the seafood gumbo as an appetizer. I have a favorite New Orleans restaurant that has the best seafood gumbo, and this was equally good. For the main course, I had venison marsala. It was the most tender I have ever had. My two friends were equally impressed with their meals. read more

Hungry for a steak last night so my wife and I decided to try EB Strong. We started with this seafood tower lobster, oysters, crab and shrimp delicious! We thought we were back in Maine. My wife had A filet mignon and I had the Kansas strip with the bone in. I was blown away with the size and then I cut into my perfectly cooked steak! Best steak ever had to bring some home could not finish there. Wife loved hers too. Food came out in a very timely matter and our waitress was very sweet and attentive. We enjoyed a drink before and after our meal mixed like I make at home bang! I look forward to going back and hopefully leaving enough room to try the deserts next time. I've been here twice now, and it's just okay. For the quality of the food, it's WAY overpriced. I've tried the lamb, scallops, and filet. I find the food to be bland. The service is courteous but SLOW, which I don't understand because the place has never been hopping when I've been in there. My boyfriend and I had a reservation, we showed up 10 minutes early, we were seated right away. 10 minutes go by and we had not been greeted, after 10 minutes or so, another table was sat directly behind us and the server was over there immediately filling their glasses with water before they even settled into their booth, at that point it was very obvious that we were ignored. We flagged a waitress down and asked why we had not been greeted yet when the table behind us was acknowledged within the first 30 seconds, she apologized and said she would take care of us. We could have looked past that but we put our food order in immediately as we already knew what we were going to eat, it took 52 minutes for a prime rib cooked medium and a house salad with no protein in it. Our reservation was at 8:45pm, so the place was not at all busy at this time while we were dining there. The manager walked by our table many times and stopped to keep talking to the table that had been sat after us. Our food finally came, it was dropped off and the waitress walked away immediately not even making sure everything looked right or asking if we needed anything else. After we ate our food, I asked for the check and it was dropped off immediately, we paid and got up to leave. I have never felt so unwelcome in a public setting ever. I hate to say that this is still an issue but we are an interracial couple and I can't help but believe the way we were treated had everything to do with that. We made sure to leave a 30% tip because we realize they treated us like we were outsiders for a reason. That was my first time ever trying EB Strong's Prime Steakhouse and it will absolutely be my last. I will never recommend it and I will be sure to explain my experience with anyone who mentions it. read more

NYC Pricing and below grade quality. My stake was prepared MED as asked; the outer sear was burnt leaving a heavy overpowering ash taste on the palate. Now for the bar, I had three vodka tonic cocktails. The tonic was flat in all three leaving a strong vodka taste after each sip. I really hate to say this, we had high hope when we first entered the restaurant as it's elegant, clean, and the staff is wall trained. We would of had a better experience if we would of just went to williston and stopped in at a chain stakehouse. My wife and I travel to NYC two to three times a year to hit the best restaurants of the city and I don't mind spending 150-250 on dinner for two; but the food and service needs to match, and clearly EB strongs can not deliver yet they price them selfs as if they can.... EB Strong's has a great selection of steaks that you really can't find else where in the area. A bit expensive but quite a treat to enjoy. More expensive than an authentic steak house, worse than outback. As Vermonter who lives in Manhattan, I wasn't expecting a Peter Luger's experience last night at EB Strong's, but with steaks approaching $50.00 and side portions at $10.00, one would expect a bit more than what was presented. In Manhattan where $50.00 an entree is expensive regardless of your income, the quality of meat you get is exceptional and sides are overflowing on piping hot plates. Steaks are aged for 20 years and a porterhouse is served sliced perfectly by impeccably trained waiters deeply familiar with everything on the menu. At EB Strong's, Burlington's attempt at a NY Steak House, the mark is terribly missed. I can honestly say that I have had a better steak at OUTBACK on Dorset Street and the baked potato I ordered last night might as well have been put in a microwave. Everything about this place was wrong and unless you are going there to try Burlington's newest restaurant to "get it out of the way," there is no reason to go. The bill exceeded $300.00 for four people and the best part of the meal was the free bread. A complete waste of money. read more

The week before Christmas I had just arrived home for my holiday visit. My mom had invited my brother and I out for a night on the town in Burlington and for dinner at EB Strong's, a restaurant that none of us had been to before. I called at around 5:00 to make a reservation and the host on the phone said he could fit us in but was adamant that we arrived "as soon as we could" and that we had to leave our table by 8:00 to be sure that the 8:30 reservation would have their table prepared. We had no problem with this knowing we didn't need more than an hour and a half to order and eat so we hopped in the car moments later and were downtown 30 minutes after that. By 6:00 we were on Church Street walking up to EB Strong's. When we walked in I gave my name to the host, who I had spoken with on the phone, and was given the most incredibly rude interaction of my life. He said that we had come far too late and that he had given the table away. I explained that he told us to "arrive as soon as we could" and that he did not give us an exact time to be there. He said that we should have given him a time ...as a host, isn't it his job to give us a specific time to arrive? We did get there as soon as we could, just like he said to! He then said that it is already nearly 6:30 to which we responded, "It is 6:07..." to where he snapped back "Actually it's 6:08." A hostess standing next to him was completely silent as he continued to practically yell at me, my mom and my brother for his own incompetence. I have NEVER been treated like this by a host, especially in what is suppose to be an upscale restaurant, in my entire life. His rude, stubborn attitude and the fact that he felt okay to ridicule and bicker with a customer was absolutely unreal. Thankfully my family has a sense of humor and we laughed it off as we made our way to an amazing dinner at Pascolo's down the street. I would love to come back to the restaurant and try it out as long as this host is fired. Otherwise, I'll go over to The Guild for a nice steak and friendly staff. read more

Best fine dining restaurant in Burlington! Went to EB Strong's for my birthday, and was so glad I did. The staff was professional and courteous. We had a choice of tap, still ($5), or sparkling water. Lovely complimentary bread plate (fresh, soft, and delicious) with Saratoga Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar. I had the Strong's House Salad ($9) which was SO good, I think I devoured it in 60 seconds. For dinner I had the prime rib special (perfectly cooked, tender, moist, generous portion at $24) with garlic mashed potatoes; and my fiancé had the fork-tender braised short ribs ($16) with mashed potatoes, purple potatoes, and a few house potato chips (called something more fancy). We also had a selection of two beautiful and delicious coarse salts. The drink menu ranges from reasonably priced to indulgent. I had a pear ginger cocktail ($12) that was light and refreshing. I will DEFINITELY be back again. Next time I may have to try the filet mignon or oysters. Mmmm. read more

SAVE YOUR $$$! After 'hearing' about this High End, Expensive, NY Style Steakhouse in our home town, we decided to spring for the occasion on an Anniversary evening. The meal was unimpressive, overpriced and gave us absolutely no reason to want to return! Steaks with more flavor and much better value can be had at most other restaurants in town, and my' fish of the day'-red snapper with lobster[microscopic pieces perhaps]...was mediocre! On the positive side, my glass of chardonnay was excellent for $12. and a great portion as well! 3 of my friends and I went to EB Strong's last night craving the Waygo burgers, in which we all ended up ordering after enjoying oysters, calamari and fried oyster sliders (all amazing btw). When we finally got to the main meal... the burgers were absolutely delicious. All 4 were cooked to perfection by Chef Nic., side salads and truffle fries were the perfect serving size to accompany the quite large burger. Of course why stop there, we had to indulge in dessert which consisted of cheese cake...again delicious. The service was on point which I feel is hard to come by these days in Burlington. 6 pm reservations with my UVM student and were never brought the food, ever! They had to leave at 7:40 to go to a party, still no food and waitress didn't stop to check on us. Manager came after we begged to see her. She didn't offer any apologies but only offered to comp our $400 meal in half. Really? We never saw the food. Horrible experience. Left at 7:50. Date night! Excellent food. My favorite is asking for the pork chops and getting the risotto side. The wait staff has always been accommodating, and the combination is excellent. The tuna watermelon appetizer is a combination I never would have thought of, and order every time now. My husband gets steak, and is always happy with it. I'm really torn on this review. The food was worthy of 4 stars. The oysters were the best I've had in a long time. The steaks themselves were well-seasoned and prepared. The sides were not New York steakhouse worthy but fairly good. What brings down the review was service and ambience. There was no music playing at all so we felt like everyone seated around us could hear every detail of our conversation. Service was slow and indifferent. I came here understanding paying a PREMIUM price... which is why I've come more than once. HOWEVER, today may end that. If you're willing to pay $45 for a steak it should come out correctly. Especially if you are "so conscious"that when you order Oysters as an appetizer and they offer you an additional one because "the shell is broken" and it's a new coo as an excuse. I was handed the seasoning I asked for to put in the steak after it was cooked. Ok. So you had what I wanted.. screwed up.. and then made the server come up with an excuse.! I was offered a manager but no one showed.. take this into account. I've since had to walk away from my table to hand in my bill. Too bad.. have recommended several people to come here only to have to take it back.. the "manager on duty" only had could offer reasons why "they misunderstood" and offered NO resolution.. I've lived in Burlington for over 30 years. I travel a lot to the "big cities" and was excited to hear of an upscale steakhouse coming to the area. Decor - nice, understated with dark wood and leather booths. We were there on a Sunday night and it was very slow so we had the pick of tables - took a booth and it was very comfortable for the four of us. Inviting bar, I can see going in for a nice glass of wine. Menu - nice, with limited selection of appetizers, salads, entrees and sides. Everything a la carte, but that was to be expected. Obviously beef is the specialty and there were several cuts to choose from. Food - we ordered several salads, steaks and sides to split (per the server). We enjoyed our meal very much although the meat was over seasoned to my taste. Side dishes were sparce, especially for the price. When you are used to going to a Ruth's Chris or Capital Grille and getting large sides to share it was quite disappointing - especially at $12 each! Wine list - Big points on the wine list. Incredible selection, appropriately priced. I'd probably go back, but at their price it would have to be a very special occasion. The restaurant is a nice addition to the many wonderful restaurants in Burlington. At its current price point it will be interesting to see if it makes it. read more

So, this was my second visit because I loved it so much the first time. With that being said I wasn't as happy the second time. Menu is still very small and the seared snapper special was so small it looked more like an appetizer. Waygu burgers all ordered medium came out more rare to med. rare. Loved this place! Fresh out of the oven soft and delicious garlic loaf with homemade moussy chive butter. Amazing unoaked Chardonnay and absolutely the best chicken I've ever had in a restaurant! I gave this place 2 chances. The first time i ordered the short ribs. They tasted like pot roast. Overcooked dry pot roast. The second visit i figured I'd step it up and get a steak; I mean this is a steak house. Ordered the 8 oz. Filet. It was cooked properly, but was very rough. I had no idea this place had been open for almost 2 years. My expectations were high because it's owned by Halversons of Burlington, a mainstay for years. I ordered the steak and lobster the steak was okay but the lobster was undercooked and it was a weird presentation. They simply sliced the lobster down the middle without removing the lobster meat which made it very difficult to eat. They did this weird thing with the steak fries I thought I had a plate of bananas the problem is they are so large that they're not fries at all it's like cutting into a baked potato. I will definitely go back and give it another try because these are good people and they know what they are doing. read more

my first time trying EB Strong's was enjoyable. i made a reservation for a saturday night and they sat me and my mom at a nicely lit cozy booth. we arrived early at around 5:30 so it was still quiet and even when more people came, the noise was controlled and it wasn't too loud. the waitress was very pleasant. the food was what brings this down to 3.5/4 stars. first we got the escargot app. it was delicious. not your typical sauce but the bread and sauce were quite good. for my entree i got the surf and turf and my mom got the prime rib (available on friday and saturday) everything was good but extremely salty!!! my moms prime rib was cooked how she liked but the first thing she said was whoah this is garlic-y and salty. for my dish, i ordered my meat medium rare. im not picky (i'll go for a less done piece) but mine was definitely what i'd consider to be rare. the most important thing of this review is my commentary on the lobster. i cut into it and it was like it wasn't even there! i could see the meat but it was just completely mushy and dissolved when i put it in my mouth. i think this is because 1) i've never had baked lobster so it may change the texture and 2) i've also never had frozen which i believe this was. it was still a good dish, but if you're expecting a meaty sweet lobster tail- don't. other than that the mashed potatoes were very smooth and garlic butter filled. over all i had a pleasant experience just less salt is needed! im from new york so i'm used to steakhouses and this one was pretty good. especially if i'm having a craving for meat up here in vermont. read more

Best dining experience in Burlington. Some reviews have indicated they are expensive. It depends on how much you eat and I agree, you get what you pay for. However, my husband and I typically eat for well under $100. Portions are generous. We usually split a meal and a side dish and it is plenty of food. The burger is the best I have had and the asparagus is amazing. We have been several times alone and with friends and plan to go back many more times. Had dinner at EB Strong's last evening with 5 colleagues and the event was exactly what you would expect from top tier steakhouse. All of the appetizers were very good and well prepared as well as the selection of salads on the menu. Unfortunately they excluded a Caesar Salad for some reason which disappointed a few of my colleagues. Preparation of our entrée where exactly on point, with my Filet Mignon cooked to perfection. Service was excellent and very competent. The one negative that I would mention was that the wine list published on their website was not up to date relative the vintage years of their wines. We stopped in Burlington for a night on our honeymoon roadtrip and had a fantastic dinner at EB Strong's. It was by far the best meal we had in our weeklong trip. The cocktail was perfect (French 75) and the food was incredible. We started with the calamari, and my wife had the scallops while I had the steak with mashed potatoes. There was nothing left on our plates by the end of the meal. We finished off with the cheesecake in the mason jar. It was a unique presentation and tasted amazing. Suzie the bar tender was extremely knowledgeable and lovely. The filet mignon was delicious. My lobster tail was slightly under cooked. The mashed potatoes were so good! Very nice wine list!
