Updating my review with the experiences I have had during COVID times. I really cannot complain much, I think the quality of food that we've had for takeout matches with what we were getting during our indoor dining experiences. Most of the food is delicious and fairly priced. To pickup your food, you do have to walk into the bar area and hope someone is around. My sister said she waited there for quite a few minutes, standing next to a grubhub lady who complained to her about how awfully slow her experiences always are while getting takeout from here - fortunately we did not have any issues. Usually the food is great here but I must mention the montrosity that was the steak sandwich that I ordered... please take that off your menu. Of course I wouldn't expect a steak sandwich to be a top-notch cut but I don't think there was any steak to that sandwich, it was all fat after fat after fat that I ended up giving it to my dog and just eating the fries as my meal. Absolutely disgusting that they would allow that to be served. The rest of the family did enjoy their meals, especially the burgers. The fried stuffed pepper balls were a good appetizer but I really wish they packed more spice. Once adding hot sauce, they were delicious! I am interested to see how/if they allow takeout of their french onion soup since that is my favorite menu item here so I'll have to try that next time! read more

It's a great start when you can make a reservation. I get hangry fast :). My hubs will tell you they have THE BEST REUBEN in WNY. Add some fresh sweet potato fries with sea salt and honey. And you have a winner. The French onion soup while a little thinner than I prefer had excellent flavor. Now for the fish fry. There was nothing bad with the fish fry , there were things that were just different and this portion of the review is just to provide the reader with data. The fish was great. Flaky haddock with a light batter. The pasta salad , is not the typical mac salad you get with fish frys. Spiral noodles, with sauce that was more like Italian dressing then mayo. And the tartar sauce tasted more like sour cream and dill. Than Mayo and sweet. Again not bad. Just not typical. read more

Creole Pasta was outstanding. Huge portion size fresh veggies, unique and flavorful. Fettuccine was tasty. Not super heavy like some places and had a very authentic creaminess. Order taker on phone was friendly and food was ready in under 15 minutes. Pickup was smooth and all COVID processes were followed. read more

We had not visited in several months, due to our last visit just being ok. I decided to try it again and ordered take out. The Ale house angel appetizers were so good and my husband said his creole pasta was ok. The problem was with my fettuccine Alfredo. The menu states it is prepared with chicken, prosciutto, peas and roasted garlic. I decided to add shrimp for an up charge of 7.99. It sounded good, but what I received, was not as described in the menu. It did not have prosciutto, peas or the shrimp, that I had paid extra for. It was rather bland and I could not taste any garlic. I called the restaurant and stated the above complaint. The woman who answered was courteous and asked if I wanted a new meal made. I told her no, we were not driving back and waiting another 30-40 minutes. She asked if I wanted a credit and I told her yes. She took my information and said she would speak with the bartender for the credit. This was several days ago, no one has contacted me or credited my card. We won't be going back. The dish cost me $30.98, I could have gotten the same thing, for half the price at a chain restaurant. read more

I've had dinner here numerous times and have not great experiences (I have had good experiences as well) but today was the worst. My friend and I came for dinner. She was seated and had a drink and it took over 15 minutes for a server to spot us and stop back over after I sat down. The restaurant was not busy. We ordered and our food came out about in a reasonable amount of time. I ordered just a cheeseburger and fries. The fries were actually cold and bland. I was shocked because they used to be good. The burger had bacon on it, which I didn't order. I was just going to eat it until I realized it was completely the wrong burger (speciality burger) and the cheese was still unmelted and fell right off the burger. Was actually medium rare how I wanted it. I sent it back and waited for a new one. It came out... with bacon again. Which, again, I didn't order on it. And again, the cheese was just slapped on top and not melted. It was like hitting into a slice right from the package. The burger was also charred. Very well done when I ordered medium rare. Then we get the check and I was charged for the wrong burger. The server fixed that but it was just not a good experience. We won't be back for a while. read more

Revisiting my original review to give Ebenezer Ale House more credit. They've really gotten a lot better over the years and after exploring some more of their menu, I do think they have good food, they just have their off days like everyone else. We ordered takeout last night and their fish fry was probably the best I've had in a long time. So crispy and well seasoned and their Mac salad is very different - in a good way. Also: they've been handling COVID shutdowns and regulations exceptionally well. When indoor dining was open, you basically needed a reservation to eat and they took social distancing very seriously. This place used to be a frequently visited place for my friends and i. For whatever reason, we had not visited since before COVID. Last night, my friend and I decided we wanted to do dinner. When I pulled up, I was shocked- the parking lot was absolutely DEAD. This used to be a place that had cars parking on the side of the road on the weekends. After last night I understand why. My friend specifically asked for a plain cheeseburger- not wanting to pay for all the extras. I ordered chicken fingers. The fries here used to be AMAZING. However these were dried out and cold. My friend got a burger with bacon on it and then mushrooms- a pub burger which is more than a basic burger. She sent it back. Her fries were cold as well, not to mention a soggy piece of cheese on top of the burger, not melted. Needless to say, I don't think we'll be coming back anytime soon- which is a disappointment! read more

Went here with another couple on a Saturday evening. Short wait for a table as to be expected on a Saturday! I had a delicious Reuben sandwich while the other 3 all had the pot roast special. Well, they were all SO happy with their meal. Huge portion of tender meat, alongside smashed potatoes and the largest portion of fresh green beans I have ever seen served on a restaurant! (Me thinks the chef had ordered a little too much) Nice, casual place for a down to earth meal, washed down by an impressive selection of craft beer. Be forewarned that parking can be tricky certain nights, as they share the lot with Rusty Nickel brewing in the back. Overflow parking ends up on the side of Seneca St. which can be a bit tricky. read more

Picture this, it's 9:45 as you arrive at the Ebenezer Ale House for the first time after you've gone on a beautiful date with your partner and this is your choice to close it out. Sounds great? Reconsider. We received constant dirty looks from staff, and the clientele, but our waitress far more often than others. This restaurant is loud, even at half capacity in the dining room I was struggling to hear myself think. After placing our order, soup for myself, an appetizer of pretzel sticks for my partner, and two chicken Caesar salads, it took over half an hour for anything to reach our table. When it inevitably did, it was just the soup. We were informed that the pretzel sticks were coming right out, which then took long enough to arrive that my date had watched me eat an entire crock of French onion soup, complaining that if she were a sim she would stood up from the table and have died of starvation. The French onion soup, was the only good thing about this trip, however not good enough for me to bother writing more. The pretzel sticks were standard, but the 'honey mustard dipping sauce' they served alongside them was thinner than my soup. The chicken Caesar salad? I spent an additional six dollars on four strips of the driest chicken I have ever received at a dining establishment. The only reason I ate my salad was that after waiting an hour for a damn salad, i figured it was better than going to bed hungry. Overall, this place is a must visit if you like French onion soup and sitting, waiting, and being disappointed. It is entirely possible that I chose our lunch spot entirely on the notion that it was owned by Ebenezer Scrooge, having hidden his recipes under that hat of his. And thankfully it was a post Christmas Carol Scrooge, because this place is not stingy on the food or flavor. The sign said to seat ourselves, and while it took a few minutes to get noticed, the waitress immediately apologized, as she seemed to be by herself. It was a Sunday afternoon, and there were a few loud groups, chattering over the classic 2000s hits and muted televisions, but she handled the traffic flow well. So sure, my butt was a little sore in the hard wooden chair, and it was too nippy to sit out on the deck, but the sunbeam shining through the panoramic window and company of my mate made the wait no big deal. She offered drinks with the menu, and I took a water (with a plastic straw, green in time for the holiday) while my mate got an Irish coffee. She neglected to ID his baby face, and brought him a mug with a shot of Jameson and a side of Bailey's. He claimed it was his favorite rendition of it. It wasn't the only time he used that word during the meal, at one point pounding his fist against the table, mouth too busy savoring his bite to exclaim his happiness. The pan seared pork chops got the second drop of the word, as he gushed about how unlike other, overcooked restaurants, they had managed to balance a crispy exterior to a juicy, tender interior. The sauerkraut perched atop was perfectly rationed, complimenting instead of overshadowing the main attraction. The green beans were akin to al dente, not soggy. He swapped his taters for the smoked gouda mac n'cheese, and holy foodgasm. His eyes grew wide at the thick and creamy homemade bechamel goodness (okay, he said gouda-ness) speckled with amazing prosciutto. Like my mate, I struggled to pick from the bounty of lip smacking choices, and flipped a coin between two final options, landing on the blackened fish po boy. I'm sure tails would have been fantastic too, and will probably be back for it, to be honest, but I shot to the moon in glee from the second it landed in front of me. I had substituted a salad for my chips, at the upcharge of 2.50. The knife cuts were a bit odd, and hard to fork as I wielded bites of cucumber, tomato, lettuce, carrot and crouton. Just be fat and get taters, guys, not worth the upcharge. But that sandwich (and the teeny crunchy pickle) more than made up for it. I tapped the roll to hear audible evidence of how hard it was. It was filled with a slab of tilapia, properly blackened, not burnt. It was glued into place by a cayenne mayo that made my lips tingle at the spice. A line of fresh pico de gallo kept raining off the sandwich, which I kept forking back up, because it is that good. The flavor alignment of the sandwich is divine. Ebenezer must've learned his lesson hard, because the prices are fair given how full you'll leave. You're getting double bang for your buck, flavor and portion size. Just get yourself a bib, and get your face in that thang. read more

Lunch with my aunt today. It wasn't too busy which I was happy about because it's not the biggest dining area! The food was great. The French onion soup was so flavorful and the spinach salad was delicious. The salad had hot bacon dressing which is so hard to find, so I order it whenever I see it on a menu! It did not disappoint. And the prime rib beef on weck was PRIME. The only downside was the homemade chips that came with the sandwich were way too salty. Not a fan of this place at all. I don't come here often at all, and it is never my suggestion. Our waiter was not good at all. It wasn't busy, but I somehow had to pretty much bus our whole table because we had no room, and he didn't bother to take anything back with him while he collecting his tips from us. Food looked good, but it tasted like nothing. I got the honey mustard bbq wings. They had no flavor, and the blue cheese was terrible and watery. Good atmosphere with a great outdoor deck. Service was great. Food came out surprisingly quick. Still left disappointed. Came here for chicken wings on the night they offer a deal and the price seemed awesome. It was! However the wings themselves were so dry (overcooked?) that it felt like we were eating dry beef jerky. I think maybe they cook the wings in advance and then flash fry them a second time to reheat, because the wings were almost inedible. We considered sending them back but as both orders of 10 wings came this way we assumed the remake would be the same. The sauces were good and the rest of the menu looked great but we didn't explore it. Might be back, might not which stinks because what would otherwise be worth the wait for fresh juicy wings got ruined with kitchen convenience. Don't double cook the wings guys. We came from NT to try this place for restaurant week. We waited awhile to be served and then several things we wanted to try they ran out of. The two dinners we did get were not good. We spent a lot of money and our waitress knew we didn't leave me our meals. I had to send my first plate back because it was over done and second plate was greasy, unflavored and texture was under done. My inlaws, husband, and myself came here for Father's Day. My husband and I arrived first and were seated immediately. We had checked the menu out in advance, but quickly learned that they were only serving brunch and a limited lunch menu. What I wanted were the chicken wings, which were fortunately still available, so it was no biggie. We also discovered that there were only two waitresses for the packed dining room that day. It didn't show for a while, but once my inlaws arrived and we placed our drink orders, service slowed to a crawl. Obviously, neither waitress was at fault for this. It just got a little annoying because we all were hungry. We ordered an appetizer, blueberry maple chicken wings. Yes, really. They have an amazing sauce list for their chicken wings. The blueberry maple was delicious, as was the kind I had put on my separate order of wings, peach mango barbecue. Ohhhhh boy. The wings were plump and juicy, too. We had to wait a while for our lunches, but our waitress was extremely friendly and did us a huge favor. She took about $10 off our final bill for the slowness as a courtesy. My husband and I really appreciated that, since we were paying. Anyways, the food here is great and the building is nice, so I really do recommend coming to this fine establishment. My boyfriend and I took a quick trip out to Buffalo and needed a place to grab lunch before driving back. We yelped what was around and I was impressed by the large menu this place had to offer. Upon turning into the lot we were a bit skeptical as the tiny bar looks like a little run down from the outside but don't let that fool you- inside was nice, well spaced out and clean. There's plenty of TVs to watch, a nice long bar, high top + low tables and it appears as though they have a deck available in the spring and summer outside. When we first walked in we were immediately greeted by the bartender- this caught my attention as you usually find yourself just standing waiting for a hostess at other places. He seemed very friendly, and welcoming. The hostess quickly appeared after we were greeted and allowed us to pick anywhere we wanted to sit and she dropped off menus and utensils. Our waitress took our drink order right after we were seated but there was a bit of a delay before she came back to get our food order. This wasn't an issue for us as we like to sit and enjoy our time and conversation when we go out to eat but I did notice one other table of patrons getting a tiny bit antsy. My boyfriend ordered the 3 street tacos (chicken) with a side of spicy sweet potato mashed and I ordered the Jamaican chicken sandwich with a side of garlic smashed. (Please excuse the photo of my sandwich as it's missing it's pickles which I had already allowed my man to snatch up). The food orders came in good time and were great. My sandwich was amazing- arguably one of the best jerk chicken sandwiches I've ever had. It had a great crunch to it for grilled chicken and somehow was still very flavorful and juicy. The jerk had just the right amount of spice so it wasn't overpowering. The Jamaican aioli is truly what made the sandwich though- when I tell you SO GOOD I mean like... I will die wondering what they used to make it. It was the best. My boyfriend's chicken tacos were also good (I did have some to confirm) and his mashed spicy sweet potatoes were delicious. The spice really gave it a unique kick to balance out the sweetness; I'm typically not a mashed sweet potato girl but after trying his I found myself wishing I had gotten them as well. My one and only complaint was my garlic mashed. There was so much pepper in it all I could taste was that and it was overwhelming. I couldn't take more than a few bites but my garbage disposal of a boyfriend finished them and said they were fine- not great but passable. The food was extremely reasonably priced. For two of us we spent around $36 including tip which we calculated at 25% (note: we didn't order any alcohol, just water). Overall the vibe was really relaxed and nice. Perfect spot to pop in on a Sunday afternoon. We had a very good meal here and will for sure visit again when we return. read more

Marinated fresh mozzarella, grilled zucchini, red onion, roasted red pepper, crunchy baby spinach, pesto mayo, toasted ciabatta bread. Also their home fries chips are delicious also. Had a really good experience here last Saturday night. We came around 5:30 and there were plenty of spaces left in their huge parking lot. We were greeted and sat right away. They had an extensive list of beers on tap and bottled, I got the Boulder Irish Stout which was delicious, and paired well with my Black and Blue burger. The burger was delicious too - 10 oz burger on a grilled roll with big pieces of bacon and perfect amount of melted blue cheese crumbles, I would get it again. Loved the house chips too! I thought the price of food was pretty cheap too, only $11 for that burger and like I mentioned, it was big and came with a lot of chips too. I have been wanting to try this place. I drive by it every day on my way home from work and I admit that the amount of cars deterred me from stopping but giving that there is a bar behind the restaurant I decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did. 1st let me say that the service was great. Our waitress Rachel is very knowledgeable about the menu and particularly the many different beers they have. The food was amazing. The meatloaf dinner would feed 2 with 2 thick slices of delicious meatloaf topped with crispy onions REAL garlic mash potatoes and a copious amount of fresh garlic green beans. I'm not sure why I was on the fence between a 3 and 4 star review, but I was. After mulling it over though, I can't find a concrete reason for not giving them 4 stars. Parking wasn't bad, though perhaps on a busy night it might be more challenging with Rusty Nickel there as well. They had an outdoor patio with no wait to be seated. The sunset view from our table was fantastic. And the general atmosphere - especially once they lit the fire outside - was really quite nice. The atmosphere inside seems nice as well. Plus they have pinball machines and a juke box, which are nice extras. Our waitress was friendly though it did seem to take a little while to get our food. I had a burger and it was okay. It came cooked how I asked but in an apples to apples comparison with my favorite burger place, I didn't think this one quite stacked up. The flavor was a little lacking for me, I would have liked more pickle chips for such a large burger (I could have asked for more but it isn't that big a deal), and the roll was pretty soggy with grease (very tasty that way, but also quite messy). I ordered the regular fries, which I liked better than the sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries came with honey but even with that they weren't my favorite. Nobody else had any complaints about their food however and, on the whole, everyone was quite satisfied. The biggest difficulty was that there are so many great sounding things on the menu that you don't really know which to pick! Overall, there is no reason not to come on out here, especially if the weather is nice and you can enjoy the patio. read more

A great spot to grab a dinner with fair prices but get there early, they have been known to have a wait once dinner hour hits on the weekends. We tried two of their specials, Crab Rangoon Pizza and the Bratwurst Burger.....the burger was messy and cooked well (instead of mid-well) but had lots of flavor.... and that pizza could have easily fed 3 people and it tasted pretty close to the Chinese cuisine appetizer. Pretty good BBQ burger, very sloppy. The burger is topped with lettuce, tomato, fried string onions, pickle chips and a healthy amount of BBQ sauce. The burger was cooked to the requested "medium" level of doneness and filled the bun. It is served with a side of homemade potato chips and a pickle spear. I enjoyed most of my burger at lunch, taking some home for a snack later tonight. It is quite a lot to eat for lunch. Our service was very good. The quality of the food and drinks has gone downhill recently. I ordered a margarita. it was frankly the worst margarita I've ever had. could not even taste the tequilla. I could not even finish it. the Nashville hot chicken fingers looked like they had been deep fried in week old oil, the color was disgusting and they tasted old. I could taste the oil more than the Nashville hot flavor. this was extremely disappointing. I doubt I will return. read more

I've been here many times and have usually been pleased with the food and service. A friend and I walked here today, thinking that we could sit on the patio and eat, since currently only patios are open. We didn't realize that this place is reservation only for their patio (at the moment) and that they were fully booked for the day. The waitress, April, was very apologetic and nice. We walked over to the door to the right and ordered takeout from her. I ordered the porter from Swiftwater Brewing, baked goat cheese, and the Alehouse Angel Po Boy. The beer was great. The baked goat cheese was mixed with red sauce and came with garlic bread strips to dip it in. It was good too. The Alehouse Angel Po Boy was excellent. It was blackened bacon-wrapped shrimp, lettuce, tomato, lime creole mustard, and green onions on a toasted baguette. I loved the lime creole mustard. It was a bit zippy. I paid to upgrade to the fries. They were a bit disappointing so I should've stuck with the chips that came with my sandwich. My friend ordered pretzel sticks and the bronzed chicken. The bronzed chicken is blackened chicken, bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, cayenne mayo, on toasted ciabatta bread. April was a really great help with our takeout order and the paying process. My friend and I didn't have to wait long at all for our food. I hope the restaurant opens soon for inside service so I can give them more of my business. read more

My friend went there and seriously hurt herself on a dangerous pot hole that they couldn't be bothered to fill. She ended up going to the ER and still has not recovered. She reached out to them to let them know out of courtesy (you can get sued for something like this) and the business was nasty, hostile, rude, and accused her of slandering them. They never ONCE apologized and got defensive and snarky. I will NEVER go here not only for the way they treat their customers, but the fact that their food is awful too. Tastes like burnt microwave dinner. I couldn't recommend this place less. Try McDonald's instead. read more
