If you are an East Sider, and on the hunt for some plants this place can meet your needs. I recently purchased a shot glass at the odd market at the Autry with the intent of making it a planter for a small succulent so I was on the hunt for a little cactus to fit my new "planter." I did a quick yelp search, and came across Echo Garden so on a sunny Saturday I swung by. After snagging a parking spot on Tonawanda Ave I strolled into the garden. There was one other patron perusing as I wandered around. This place isn't the most organized, and the aisles are very narrow. But after a little search through the jungle I came across a bunch of succulents that would fit my shot glass planter nicely. After some staring I snagged two and went to the register. These run just under $2 each so they're more expensive than like ones you'd find at Melrose Trading Post (for $1) but there's no admission fee here (as there is at the post) and it's closer to home so it seemed worth it to me. Here's the bummer moment for me: I, like most people, rely on my credit card for most transactions, and yeah I know, it's $4, but plastic is what I have, and I checked to make sure they took cards before coming here so I was pretty frustrated when I was told I needed to buy more to be able to use my credit card as payment... I get it, but post a sign or something. There isn't one so I wasn't assuming I needed to meet a minimum. Luckily they had some brightly colored cacti near the register that I'd been eying so I grabbed one, and I guess that met the minimum (no clue what that is, but I spent $8). Wandered around the place browsing for 40 minutes, no one ever acknowledged me. Finally brought one of many plants i was planning to buy to the counter to ask if markings on a it's leaves were natural or because of a disease. The woman at the counter, as well as an employee, both stared at me with baffled looks in silence. So I asked again.. she yelled "If you don't like don't buy!!" Her employee took a large bite of food, mumbled something at me with his mouth full and walked away. I said 'ok, but i am still asking a question'. She then shooed me away with her arm, in that go-away-now outward motion. Stunned by how comically rude this interaction was, I left my collection of plants on the floor and walked out. This place could be a highly successful, coveted piece of the neighborhood, it's really a shame. Wanted to be a loyal customer, but will not be shopping here. read more

This place is soooo dirty and could be taken care of way more in my opinion. i've been here twice and both times i've left with approximately 10 bug bites and i was even there for 30 min! This place is packed floor to floor with plants, and there is definitely a wide selection, but I think as a result not everything gets taken care of very well. It was extremely uncomfortable to move around in this nursery. There's less than a foot and a half of space between the isles here. I was a little nervous walking around because of the close proximity, especially in the succulent and cactus sections. I was very happy to find some black elephant ear plants ( alocasia ) while shopping around here. I've been looking for them for almost six months. However, all the specimens that they had were in bad condition. Leaves were crisping and bent, soil was dried out and the plants were wilting. Overall, the plants I wanted were in bad condition, and I didn't end up purchasing any. I was a little disappointed because I really did want that plant, but I couldn't justify spending $20 on a plant that was dying and practically dead. I figured my money would be better spent elsewhere for a healthy specimen. Didn't want to try and revive something like that, especially during the winter season when the more tropical indoor plants don't fair so well. They have a TON of weird pots and various containers that seems to be have been accumulated and collected over the years. It's really weird. It's like all the dishware and cermaics you've ever seen in any Salvation Army and Goodwill have collected here. Theres a whole back house that has been converted into a really strange home for 'designer' objects (which are really just weird and decaying garden ornaments and various random things). Against the back wall, there was some grapevines and ferns that I thought were interesting. I think if you really look you'll be able to find something you like here. They have a lot of succulents here, some very large ones that I believe would be only suited for landscaping, as well as a regular small assortment. There are various herbs and fruit trees, and they had lots of monstera, pothos and more. There was also a nice selection of black rubber plants, and some large tarul ( elephant ear plants) that were big and healthy looking. My boyfriend ended up finding some succulents that he was very happy with, so overall I think my experience here was pretty alright. The whole time the owners walked around and didn't really interact with the customers. The counter was super messy and littered with cardboard boxes and other random things. I can see why the nursery was kind in disrepair when I interacted with them. Not necessarily a nursery I would be jumping to come back to, but they do have a large assortment and I think for anyone starting out plant keeping or landscaping, there would be enough here to go home relatively satisfied. Pros: large variety, fair prices, weird eclectic pots, maybe youll like??? Cons: super cramped, relatively unfriendly owners, weird ugly pots. Parking: Street, no lot. read more

The woman behind the counter that helped me out was very knowledgeable on the different plants and how to care for them. Worst nursery in LA and I've been to almost all. Plants are not taken care off. They are selling also random shit which looks like it's from Salvation Army (plates, bowls with no drainage holes, etc) their plants are dried out or sunburnt. Their aisles are too cramped. . Lovely middle-aged mom and little girl show up on a Sunday to drop a grand. They've decided to invest in a houseful of plants and bring along their questions. Helen and Baseball Cap rudely blow off mom (while doting on the tatted millennials) and send her to Sarah, who knows not the name of a single plant. So we spend 20 bucks and hightail it out of there, never to return. We head straight to Rainbow before it closes. Spring Street. Chinatown. DTLA. Where Sugar and her family are lovely, helpful, knowledgeable salespeople. We happily drop our cash for plants that are half the price of the ones at Echo. Gorgeous fiddleleaf @ Echo, $160, and the same but better at Rainbow for $90. Lovely, quality plants at Rainbow, great staff -- so don't waste your money or time at Echo Garden. read more

Not sure what's going on here with the new management but the plants are waaaaay overpriced. They keep the plants too close together too. A few months ago I bought a nice little vine and put it on my shelf. A few days later I realized it was infested with spider mites and they were all over the plants and my shelf. I was afraid they would get to my other house plants so the vine was banished outside. read more

It's a wild, unorganized labyrinth of treasures and one of a kind finds. Don't go if you want neat rows of perfectly grown plants with new tags like a big box store. But do go if you have a little extra time to spend wandering around and looking at all the cool plants, pots, fountains and who knows what. It's also great to support a local non-corporate conglomerate business. I've been a half dozen times and they're always lovely and a little overworked. read more

I was reading some of the other reviews and felt the need to add my own. Yes-the customer service can definitely be approved upon, but due to my many experiences at Echo Garden it appears partially due to a language barrier. The woman that owns it has always been very nice and assisted in helping me choose the healthiest plants as well as always throwing in an additional plant for free. Her husband is not as friendly as she is, but has never been rude. My first purchase from Echo was 2yrs ago and consisted of several plants to fill three different garden beds. I spent $200. I joke with my husband that the $1700 he spent on professional landscaping died 3 months in while my $200 is alive and well. I am now addicted to plants, so I go Echo every couple of months to add to my yard. read more

i know very little about plants, but i have a pothos that i'm very attached to and it wasn't doing too well. i came in asking for help and the very nice blonde woman gave me suggestions on saving my little friend. i chose to buy a new pot up and she repotted it for me (because i have no idea what i'm doing). they also have a great selection of plants at reasonable prices that i ended up leaving with 3 new friends! hopefully i can take care of these guys so i can be back to buy more :) read more

Surprisingly mighty little nursery that had a couple of extra large pots I couldn't find anywhere else. Great customer service from the woman working there, she checked on their inventory and took measurements for me over the phone before I arrived to make sure they had what I needed. Ended up buying two extra large pots. Would definitely return and shop here for plants or pots. read more

However the price went high this year.... even more expensive than other nurseries around. the plants look not as healthy as before. Haven't seen the Korean owners for a while. 3-stars because I adore the sweet older lady but that's being generous. She's always greeted me when I've visited and I don't want to appear to sound rude. Everyone here has always been nice to me when visiting. I will however be frank, because I believe this could be a special place!! I'm still confused as to why this nursey chooses to sell used or 'antique-y' pottery and 'stuff' that is really geared toward florists and thrift shopping. As far as I know, they do not offer florist services. I suppose it's because I'm an organization freak that I simply always feel that I'm navigating thru 'stuff' rather than strolling around enjoying my hunt for plants. Perhaps my word means nothing but if I could suggest a very clear separation and organization of thrift items (antiques/furniture/used pots), garden pots, indoor plants, succulents, tropicals, etc. If the elimination of all the thrifty pottery that exists on the main display tables, there would be much more room to both display smaller succulents and potted arrangements that I know the owner can whip up nicely. Do they sell soil or amendments? Would never know because you cannot find it easily but ir could be near the check out area which is a bit hidden. I also found too many plants that were in bad shape, poorly organized, and not displayed well enough to really get a good look at. Yes there are gorgeous plants here but you'd really have to look hard for them. GREAT PRICES. I'm so sure that this place would look fantastic that I personally would take that job to organize and help merchandise store products in a fashion that was more built to draw people in versus rush out. Yes, I'm serious. Sorry if I hurt any feelings. I will return and hope many people do return after hopefully some changes are in place. read more

I am honestly very surprised that this nursery has received so many positive reviews. I found the owners to be marginally helpful when I came by to try and buy some items. Initially, the older gentleman barely made an effort to respond to my questions, finally barking some responses at me before shuffling away to tend to some gardening chores. When I stopped him another time to ask him about some potting soil, he came by, slapping and waving at some bags, rattled off prices, and then shuffled away again. It was not a hot day by any stretch of the imagination (it had only just recently rained and it was cloudy out) but there were a gazillion flies buzzing around the area next to the cash register for reasons I couldn't figure out. The only thing I can attribute that to is the older dog who is tied up behind the cash register. I imagine the dog is relieving itself somewhere back there; it hardly smells pleasant. They have some very nice plants, for sure; I would have loved to have bought more. I am all for supporting Mom & Pop businesses, but the customer service is sorely lacking. I wish I could give this place a better review, but I just cannot. read more

It's 6:30pm. According to Yelp, this place closes at 7pm. I called, and some man answered - I just wanted to see if I could get a quick quote for buying like, about 150 mini succulents - don't care what kind. I asked how much the 2"ones go for. And he just says, "We're closed. Call tomorrow. Yes, we sell those. " And hung up on me. Maybe Yelp is wrong and they close at 6 or something. But if you're going to answer the phone after hours, you could at least be a bit nicer about it. It would have taken less than a minute to answer my question. I'll update this review if/when I get around to visiting / calling during more appropriate daytime hours. But for now... MEH! read more

I will give them credit for having more selections than the surrounding nurseries and providing delivery. However the price we initially paid was not the price they intended to sell the plants for so we ended up paying the difference. If you are getting delivery make sure it's not early in the morning otherwise be prepared to deal with a typical morning attitude. read more

Why do people suck? Why do the majority of the people who suck have a yelp page and feel propelled to berate a wonderfully quirky business ? I will tell you why ,because most people who suck have been spoiled by their parents who have coddled them into thinking they are the most important brightest rays of sunshine in the world despite the reality that they do indeed eat royal ass. You are going to get great plants here for a low price, anything beyond that is on you. Yes you could probably go down the the flower mart fight/pay for parking, get accosted by an insane homeless person with poop on their pants, wander around to 7 different vendors, grab a cart ,hope you cart is still there, park illegally , maybe get a ticket and then load your preciously picked plants for the whole sum of a couple dollars less.......or you can come here in a relaxed outside setting and enjoy the profound quirkiness. read more

I absolutely loooooove this nursery. I won't do anywhere else. And the prices just make me cry. And I can't leave without getting a long lecture about how exactly to take care of my new plants, how much water, etc. The owners are this adorable Korean family who love to garden and love plants. I tend to kill my succulents and cacti quickly so I pop in here every few months. It's like meditation time in here. Bring a hat though because you'll be wandering out in the hot sun for awhile! Parking is usually ok on the street. You can pull your car around and load if necessary. read more

I don't know what happened to this nursery but it now looks like a junkYard! I have not been here in a while, so I believe new owners must have took this place over. Older man and woman would come out and greet you, and ask if you like some tea, it was very well organized with plants and trees. Now there are broken pots, fountains & what appears to be second hand junk toss all over. You can hardly walk through the place, plants and trees look shabby. Sad, what once one was a pleasant place to shop has turned into a junk yard! I would t recommend buying anything at this nursery! read more

This is a wonderful garden with the kindest and friendlist family running the operation. I just got back from my first visit today and purchased some great Cacti for an even greater price. I was greeted with a cup of ice tea by one of the owners when I first arrived and things got better from there. They have a great selection of Succulents & Cacti ranging from small 4" pots to very large specimins. Also, many of their suculents are older than the ones you would find at a Big Box Store like Home Depot or Lowe's. And I mean that in a GOOD WAY. Older succulents have gone through may generations of growth so they are sturdier, more uniquely shaped and have different sized blooms. Once you go, you will want to return again and again. So I highly recommend you pay them a visit...(but please leave the large cacti for me!!) read more

I love this place! I sometimes work in the area and who couldn't use some plant therapy? You can easily get carried away with tons of plants and turn into me, a plant hoarder! Anyway, this is a family owned shop and they are all so helpful and nice. I was looking for a plant as a gift that would be in direct sunlight. I asked for some help and the man that helped me showed me some plants and prices and really gave me excellent customer service. I went in for some ground cover, and she had exactly what I wanted and in the high quantity I needed. They were a dollar more than Home Depot, but I don't really care, I'd rather go to a local business that knows what they're talking about. Mrs. Lee also gave me two free plants! What a gem! This place was recommended to me by a close friend of mine and let me just say I'm so glad I stopped by! It was a little bit out of the way for me as I live in the valley, but I will definitely be back. Plants are reasonably priced, look healthy, and there are some super unique plant holders! My boyfriend and I paid a visit to pick up a couple houseplants and Renee was super sweet, helpful, and knowledgable. She was even able to guess the type of plant my boyfriend had unfortunately killed just by the description. Omg! I grew my own lettuce and microgreens!! This place is amaaaazing and so affordable! I tell everyone about it in hopes they will go and take me along! Echo Garden is amazing! A huge selection of indoor plants, outdoor plants, succulents, cacti, pots, etc. Mr. and Mrs. Lee are so helpful and kind. Mrs. Lee spent so much time explaining to me which plants would work on my balcony and in my living room--how much sun to allow, how often to water. THEN when all the plants wouldn't fit in my car, Mr. Lee loaded up his truck and followed me to my apartment. He brought them all upstairs and saved me a day of heavy lifting.
