First off, we had a beautiful table by the window overlooking the beach. Nisshie was our server and she was spot on. Service was perfect. We started with the ahi tuna nachos and they were quite good. It was also a good size for 3 of us. My husband ordered the seafood Cobb salad which he said he would definitely get again. It had a lot of smoked salmon and shrimp. My daughter and I ordered the special of the day which was a tuna poke bowl. Lots of tuna, mango, edamame, cabbage, ginger and thin strips of jalapeño. We appreciated that the wasabi was presented in a separate container and not mixed into the bowl. Our only complaint was the rice was very overcooked and had zero seasoning. Absolutely terrible service. We had a reservation for a bday dinner for 8. We ended up here for over 2 hours just waiting on service. No one filled our waters the entire time, delayed drinks, we had to ask for service any time we needed it. When we brought up concerns, we were met with incredibly disrespectful attitude from our "waitress" Marlene or Marlena. She then went to get the food and beverage supervisor, Morgan, who also seemed to care less and offered nothing for our terrible experience. I do not recommend. read more

I went to Echo when visiting my in-laws during a SSI trip. I was excited to try since I heard the restaurant was in a nice hotel and was pretty inside. There seems to be three separate sections of Echo- there is the outside patio with fire pits, the inside that is open like a hotel lobby, and then there is a large room with dining tables. We were seated in the large room. Service was good- I didn't have any complaints. Attentive but not overbearing. Friendly. The food itself- the presentation was fantastic but the taste was a bit too salty. For everything. A lot of us in our party ate what we could and didn't bother to take any leftovers home. I may go back to give it another chance. I wanted to love it. Maybe it was just a bad day. read more

We came on a Monday evening and the service was awful. We waited over 2 hours and spent over $130 for 2 salads and 3 drinks, which the last round never came out. The server claimed the bar was backed up but no one was inside either. We were brought the wrong food then was told we ordered something else when I literally spelled out the ECHO salad, not Caesar. The table next to us had a similar experience as well. There were 100s of birds swarming us while we were eating as well. We are locals and will not return. read more

The hotel is lovely, but this "best food on the island" is served in a room that is rather barren, thus loud, and styled for a sand covered crowd rather than elegant evening diners. The service was terrific, but the product from tough steaks to tasteless Georgia Shrimp to mushy oysters and over cooked veggies was not even food truck good. I was visiting St. Simon's Island and really wanted to get some coffee by the beach, and this was the only restaurant I could find that was actually on the water. I didn't realize until I arrived that it's in a beautiful hotel. The first morning I came by myself and worked. The hostess was so sweet and helpful. And my server was great, as well. The coffee was mediocre (I know they use Wake Up Coffee Co, which is great coffee, but it seemed like maybe it was weak or their coffee machine needed cleaning). I ordered the island breakfast scramble, and it was great. I liked this place so much that I brought my mom the next morning! The second day, it was a little too warm to eat outside, but we did it anyways. We split the island breakfast scramble and an omelette- both were great - but the best thing we ordered was the grits!! My mom thought they were too creamy and that there weren't enough grits, but I absolutely loved them. They might be my favorite grits ever! One caveat- one of our friends came for dinner that weekend and ordered a shrimp salad. She did get food poisoning. Definitely worth noting, but that wasn't our experience with Echo! read more

I've been coming to King and Prince for over 15 years and have always enjoyed the staff at Echo and tip well I went to order a glass of wine at the bar, but saw someone was in front of me. The bartender, who is newer, asked to take my order and I said that there was a woman ahead of me. He proceeds to be snippy and said I'll come back to you later. I could not figure out what happened as I did not know if he had taken her drink order and unbeknownst to me he had and then made another snippy remark that he would not have asked me for my drink order if he had not taken care of her drink. I was trying to be polite but he was very rude. I walked out without ordering and I'm not sure I'll be back, at least I will not, when he is at the bar. The bar was not busy at all, which could at least have been the cause of his snippiness. I'm in hospitality and that was not very hospitable especially in a resort environment. read more

Found out that overall 3 stars is correct. The clam spaghettini and the vegetables had not a touch of salt. Like eating plain rice. My Halibut special was really good. The porkchops looked good and no complaints. The filet mignon looked like a big hamburger patty. Strange. The food left a lot to desire. Service was fine. The food just.... wasn't. This place has sadly gone downhill. Apparently there's been a management change and none of the staff or servers appear to have been there very long. It was always hit or miss regardlss. You paid for the ocean view and the atmosphere, but the food could either be decent or terrible. The worst part was getting a crappy meal and knowing you were paying extra SSI prices. On this particular occasion, the place was almost empty. I approached the hostess table and pre-empted what I knew would be her first question by asking, "Do you happen to have a table for two in the main dining room?" "Huh," she responded as she adjusted one of the two piercings in her nostrils. "I asked if you have a table for two in the main dining room?" "Do you have reservations?" (palm slap) "No, that's why I asked if you had a table for two." She gathered up the utensils and menus and led us to a table. There were two or three other couples in the room. And there we sat. For fifteen minutes. With no one coming to take our drink order or anything. Listening to hard rock and (not joking) heavy metal blasting out at high volume. After fifteen minutes of this and while Judas Priest blasted "Breaking The Law" I tried to catch someone's attention. Nothing. I then got up and went to the kitchen area where I'd just seen four workers standing around shooting the breeze doing nothing. I approached a clueless supervisor looking type and explained that no one had taken our drink order and we'd been waiting there a while. He looked befuddled and asked aloud to the others who was our server? He found our tattoo covered waitress and said we'd been waiting. She just looked at me and shrugged. I went back to the table and waited several more minutes before she came and brought us two glasses of rancid tapwater. No apologies. No explanation. Just apathy. I ordered a bottled water and my wife ordered a sparkling water. As the heavy metal continued to blast throughout the restaurant I looked at my wife and asked her if she wanted to leave. "Yes," she mercifully replied. We got up and walked out. I saw the manager near the door and told him we were leaving because the service was slow and the music was inappropriate and way too loud for a relaxed, upscale beach restaurant. All he could mutter was, "Uh, sorry." On the way out the door I went to the front desk of the hotel as I now noticed that the music was blasting throughout the hotel. "Who selects the music you guys play and how loudly it's played?" "The management," he replied with a smirk. "Do you think this is the kind of music that creates a relaxed and casual vibe for an upscale hotel and restaurant like the King & Prince?" "They seem to think so," he answered. I told him what I thought of his smug attitude and we left to go have dinner at the Hard Shell in the Village where I paid 1/3rd less and had twice as good of a meal as I would have had at Echo. We've lived here almost ten years and have been to Echo many times previously. We will not be back for a long time. I urge you to avoid this place as well. It is way overpriced, the service is half-assed, and the food is only good about 25% of the time. read more

Loved my scallop & lobster corn risotto dish so much. The risotto had HUGE chunks of lobster which is always a plus because you never know how much if any protein will be in a side dish! I was very impressed. The scallops were seared great & I truly enjoyed these flavorful combinations. The service was great & our waitress was great for our 12 person large group! Pork belly was old and cold. The pickled jalapeños were a strange texture. My bf ordered the shrimp and grits, and somehow it was simultaneously too salty but also bland. The view was lovely, but all of the people working there seemed stressed out--which of course made our experience mid. If you want good food on SSI, look elsewhere. read more

I had high expectations for my visit to Echo St. Simon in Georgia, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a disappointing experience. The food quality was far below what I anticipated. The dishes lacked flavor, were poorly presented, and arrived at the table either lukewarm or cold. It was clear that the kitchen was struggling, and this was reflected in the subpar meals we were served. While our waitress was clearly trying her best, it was evident that she was overwhelmed and unsupported by the rest of the team. The service was slow, and it was apparent that the restaurant was not properly managed. Despite her efforts to make up for the shortcomings, the overall experience was marred by the disorganized staff and poorly executed dishes. I understand that everyone has off days, but the combination of lackluster food and inadequate service made for a disappointing visit. Excellent restaurant, a friend from the area told me to try Echo for the views and food. It certainly lived up and surpassed expectations. The beach views seen from the tables give it an amazing ambiance, especially tied in with live music from the hotel during dinner. Appetizer: the Parmesan truffle fries were outstanding. All of us agreed it was delicious, a large portion, and would 100% get it next time we come. Drink: I had the Hercules drink. A very nice setting in the King & Prince hotel. We had walked up the beach to have lunch here on a Monday. Seeing that more than half the tables inside and out were empty it would be easy. Nope! 30-40 minute wait due to issues with kitchen staffing. So we grabbed some seats at the bar and intended to eat there but did put in for a table. Eventually we did get an outside table on the patio and placed our food order. Thank goodness I wasn't starving because it took at least 30 minutes for the food to get served. The saving grace of this experience was the food. I got the southern fried chicken sandwich with pimento cheese, bacon, caramelized onions and slaw. It was excellent though it could have used a sturdied bun. I would order this again in a second! My wife got the crunch salad and said it was also excellent. Bottom line great food but the service... We went here for my sister-in-law's bachelorette weekend and it was divine! I had the scallops, which were cooked perfectly. The portions are huge though so you can definitely split. For example, we shared the truffle fries amongst 8 people and one order was plenty. William was a fantastic server and was very attentive as well. We had two expecting mothers with us and the bartender came over to our table to help better create a mocktail to their liking. They also have fantastic views of the ocean and a great cocktail menu for adults. Just avoid the espresso martini, it doesn't have a frothy cream which i found odd but overall it was still pleasant. We were seated at a dirty table and waited 20min to get any type of greeting, while a couple who arrived after us was waited on immediately. I finally began to think that there might be some type of racial discrimination happening, which is a conclusion I *rarely* jump to. (After I read the negative reviews, I realized that this was likely not a racial thing, but that's how crappy we were made to feel). I ended up just walking over to a random server and asking if someone could help us. She came over reluctantly, cleaned the table, and then asked us for our drink order. When I said we weren't ready (we were considering leaving at this point ), her reply was, "Oh you were ready to come find me, but you weren't actually ready to ORDER". What in the actual f**k?! No apology for waiting or the dirty table; nothing but snark. She disappeared and then came back 15min later. Not sure why we stayed, but we did. Ordered and the food came out almost 30min later, and it was incomplete. I had to find ANOTHER server to ask where the rest of the order was. Someone checked on us ONCE. It took so long to get the check, we almost walked out without paying. And no, they were not crazy busy, and there was plenty of staff. This is the worst service I have ever received at any restaurant in my entire life. And I don't say this casually. Oh, and the food (and the view) was excellent. We started our trip with this dinner, and to their credit, we went in blindly regarding the food and prices! Unfortunately, the most memorable part was the price, and not in very favorable way. It was the most expensive place we went to, but we did get an appetizer, two teas, and two entrees. All of that plus a tip was about 100 dollars, which is more than we would have liked to spend. After not liking anything on the main menu, the waitress brought us the bar menu, which was more our speed. We got the pulled pork nachos for our appetizer, which were amazing! My husband got fish and chips, which were good, but pretty run-of-the-mill, and I got fish tacos, which weren't my favorite (cold, thick tortillas, dry fish, lots of uncooked cabbage and carrot foliage on top- I didn't finish them). We wanted to like Echo since it's inside the King and Prince, but everything was disappointing. My husband got the prime rib dinner special and it was severely over cooked. The twice baked potato looked and tasted like it had been cooked hours ago and left under a heat lamp. I got the salmon which was good except the skin was served up and all the sauce was on the skin which I found odd. The other side was perfectly pan seared so I'm not sure why it was served skin side up. I had to scrape all the sauce off the skin, and put it back on the other side.
