On our motorcycle trip from Richmond VA to the Grand Canyon and back, we are trying to stay at places that won't break the bank. In this case, there was very little available in Durango because of the holiday weekend and the many activities scheduled. I had a horrible time finding anything. The Booking.com site was acting a fool and I ended up reserving two rooms. Only needed one and the policy states no cancellations. I called the hotel at midnight, while trying to deal with Booking.com. I spoke to Sherry who sensed my panic. She said she'd see what she could do to get one room cancelled, but offered no guarantee. Ten minutes later she called back saying I was good to go with only one reservation. My opinion of Econo Lodge got bumped up a notch! Upon our arrival, we were greeted with a smile. The reception area was clean and orderly. Our room was small, dark outdated, BUT clean. The beds were comfy, the water was hot and the shower pressure was good. The continental breakfast offered was better than many we'd experienced on our cross country travels. I'm giving this Econo Lodge a 5, not because it's top notch, high end, fancy, but because, in it's class, this budget hotel meets the bar. read more

Decent pet friendly motel located on the Main Street. The front desk area is nicely kept and the customer service was on point. Ample free parking. I really enjoyed my stay in the queen bedroom suite, which had two rooms and a bathroom. The room comes itself comes with a microwave, coffee pot, iron and iron board, two flatscreen TVs, a mini fridge, and a portable fan. The bedroom had plenty of natural light and a nice view of the mountains. We also tried out the hot tub and was impressed with how private and clean the hot tub area was kept. The motel stocks the hot tub with clean, dry towels, so no need to bring towels from your room. There is a sign up sheet on the door (near the hot tub) so you can reserve it in advance which is recommended during Covid. The free breakfast is limited to pastries right now (due to the pandemic), but there is a natural food store down the street so I recommend making a stop to stock up your crib in advance. The motel is also located next to a gas station in case you are low on gas upon arrival. This place was priced right for what you get. I really have no complaints except I would say that they could clean up the dog run and maintain that area a little better. The motel did have an ample supply of doggie poop bags for use, but still people didn't always clean up after their dogs so you have to be careful walking around that area. The only suggestion I would have for management is to emphasis the importance of picking up after your dogs. read more

There is no insulation from the sounds really. Place was clean but the internet was slow as well. Also, the signal for the satellite TV was weird and came in and out and had a three inch black border around the already small screen so you couldn't see anything from the bed. read more

Sleeping bag is a must during the winter but hey, most folks staying here are busy skiing anyway during that time. Pros: honest staff both front desk and housekeeping. Breakfast includes a cool make your own waffle my kids were fascinated with. Got two kings and a foldout queen. Saw a deer right outside the office when we rolled up at midnight. Cons: HVAC is a fictional term. Incandescent lights will keep the room warmer than most would imagine. A $40 Walmart heater will do the trick as long as you put the Do Not Disturb sign out. Wi-Fi speeds rival dial up with lost connections every half hour or so. Two plug connections available after lamps accounted for; I happen to travel with a power strip so again, no big deal. All in all, I might come back, luckily I'm a prepared kind of guy who can roll with it. Don't expect a low priced room not to have trade off but only twice in my life has HEAT been the gotcha, the other time being in KOREA. read more

I wanted to spend the last hour of my stay here in the jacuzzi before I checked out but it was locked. When I found someone to unlock it, a bald, older man with a smug disposition, he told me that he would open it after his maintenance guy checked it to see if it needed to be cleaned. I tried to convince him to just let me chill in it for 30 mins, after all I had been in it the night before and it was perfectly clean and functional. But he was extremely adamant that it needed to be looked at before anyone could go in it. The rooms are fine enough, but the customer is definitely not always right here. This Econo Lodge in Durango is top notch, it is very comfortable, clean & convenient. I met the owner, Steve, a very personable guy & concerned proprietor. He is steadily making improvements to insure the comfort & safety of his guests. I personally enjoy the Hot Tub / Whirlpool he has on site ! From the outside due to the construction it doesn't look the best but don't let that fool you. Kind girl at the front desk, easy check in/out. Clean and spacey room, When I walked into the room I was surprised with how nice and clean everything looked and smelled! There was even kitchen supplies in the cabinets. I hate to admit this but for an Econo Lodge, it surprisingly was nice. I'm usually one to stay at a Marriott property but what attracted me to this spot was the deal they had with the Purgatory Ski resort. Buy a ticket and get a night at the hotel for free. At first I said, no way I'm not staying there but after looking at the pictures I decided why not. And the pictures from other posts are pretty spot on! It's been remodeled in some areas like the lobby and breakfast area. The breakfast was great. Typical breakfast items such as bagels, eggs, sausage and pancakes. I stay at hotels on a weekly basis due to my job and this was about normal for any typical free breakfast. Very pleased. The lobby area was constantly stocked with teas and coffee. The rooms were ok. We had some issues with the toilet right when we got there and I guess the maintenance guy wasn't available but it was fixed the next day. The temperature knob doesn't seem to work the greatest so at times it may get too hot or too cold. I'm always cold so the temp was fine minus in the morning around 6 the room got about 10 degrees colder. The one thing that really pissed me off was the loud people next door. We happen to be visiting during Snow Down and our room had a door that was split with another room. Soon as those drinks came back to their room it was miserable due to the loudness. We called to the lobby and the front desk went to the noisy room and told them to be quiet. And they did that for us twice. So that was nice of the front desk to handle that for us. Previous to the Snow Down event, the rooms were quiet and peaceful. Overall great value and place for what you're paying. Obviously it's no Westin, but for the price and deals, it really was better than expected and I probably will stay here again when I come to snowboard at Purgatory read more

All the hotels and motels in Durango seem to be along the same large highway that runs down the middle of the town. That said, all of them suffer a bit of road noise. That said, I opted for the cheapest with the most encouraging reviews on various hotel booking websites. This was a plain jane room, clean and the WiFi worked fine. The office person was an energetic and helpful young man. The make your own waffles in the morning were better than what we normally get at the discounted hotels. The rooms had no noise between the rooms. I would do this again, especially because it was so close the downtown area and all the good local bars and restaurants. read more

I stayed with a friend in a one queen sized bed room. It was a cozy room and clean inside. Looked like most typical motels/inns, if you have been to most typical motels/inns. What the room came equipped in: -Complimentary make up removal. -5 pillows. Perks: -Staff were very kind -Need more pillows and showering supplies? No worries, go to the front desk and ask and they are happy to give you what you need. -Breakfast = Raisin bagels and waffles (come early for that), & OJ that tasted like acid (bitter) Location: Convenient and affordable if you're in Durango, especially if you're driving from New Mexico, which we did. Overall: If you need a place to stay for a night or two and are on a budget, consider this place. In the end, all you need is a place to comfortably sleep and clean up so that you are functioning in the morning to start your day. Where the heck is the heat? This place has some serious deficiencies the foremost being a lack of adequate heating. When the weather outside is frigid you don't want the room to be almost as cold. As other reviewers pointed out the room sat at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. When we brought this up to the clerk the response we were given was "It's that time of year" Seriously, not let me call maintenance for you to check on that but "it's that time of year". I understand Colorado can be chilly but i prefer to sleep somewhere warm. I broke out some of my winter hunting gear just to stay adequately warm even while indoors. The positives the rooms were large and clean and the staff was honest. Parking is directly in front of the room and it is centrally located in town. This hotel was the best deal I could find on a last minute trip to Durango for the weekend. The room, lobby area, and breakfast area were very clean. Sam at the front desk was one of the most helpful people I've ever met. I'm moving to Durango so I was looking for a place to live and he took the time to look up some places for me and told me which areas to avoid. He gave great recommendations on where to eat and he was overall very nice and accommodating. Breakfast was more than I expected with fresh eggs, sausage, and gravy among other things. Don't let the appearance of the older building fool you. This was an incredibly reasonably priced hotel that was maintained very well. Clean rooms, new flooring and paint comfortable beds and the staff was very nice. I had been over booked at another nearby hotel and the staff here was so kind and accommodating. I neede a few things printed and they happily did it for me. Their. Real fast was also a pleasant surprise. Real eggs, sausage, fruit, yogurt hard boiled eggs, oatmeal and a variety of pastries and cold cereal if that's your jam. I would stay here again if I pass through! Thanks for a nice stay. read more

Budget motel. Not a bad place, but the breakfast leave a LOT to be desired. Venue for breakfast is much too small and uncomfortable. When we arrived for breakfast, the selection was poor;i it was replenished while we were there. HOWEVER, waffles and bagles do not a breakfast make. It would be much better if there were eggs and some sort of meat and if there were more than two cereal selections. The room we had was badly laid out-could use some furniture relocation. The bathroom sink didn't drain very well. It was adequate for a one-nght stay, but if I return to Durango, I'll stay elsewhere. read more

The room was clean besides the hairs we found after pulling back one of the sheets and pillows, like they didn't change the sheets after the last stay. Luckily we had a double room and the other bed seemed clean. I did have to clean out the bathtub before using it. There were long brown hairs in it that matched the ones on the sheets I guess for $90 a night that's what ya get. Other than that, the room was clean and the front desk was helpful and nice. Went and got a last minute reservation here .... not the best idea! First, the key to the room would not work! Second, found out there was no A/C in the room (we were told it was turned off for the winter and we could open a window if need be) ... the temperature was set at 80 when we arrived! Third, there was a bag of trash perhaps left over from the last guests! My family and I litterly stayed there for an hour before we asked and received our money back, because there was no way we could've stayed in that room with no air! read more

We were not expecting it to be as nice, clean and great as it was. The staff was very helpful, they were very nice in upgrading us to a king bed, and to put us on the second floor. Reading the reviews is so confusing to travelers, because usually only the people that are unhappy ever review the place which is NOT helpful to all of us out there checking Yelp for a place to stay. Please review a place if you like it as well. We had the room at the top of the outdoor stairs and the whole floor shook as a heavy patron come up to his room each night, but it was safe, just funny. The breakfast was traditional waffles, apples, coffee, juice, etc but a very clean and comfortable breakfast room. Location is great for passing thru. Stayed here for a night while driving through and was pleasantly surprised! Expected a decent budget hotel but it was better. Excellent for the price. I booked a basic queen room and loved the space. The room had been recently refurbished and was in great condition so it was very clean and well kept. Not even the grubby or dusty stuff in the corners that doesn't get attention. A modern and chill space, not like the outdated budget hotels I had in mind. Free WiFi and complimentary breakfast which was very good. Only "complaint," which wasn't really even an issue for me, was that there was a lot of road noise from inside the room since the hotel is right on a main street. The walls seem pretty thin since I could pretty easily here noise and conversation from other rooms. Didn't really bother me but something to be aware of. Overall experience and stay was great! If you're looking for a budget hotel, you've found it if you stay here. This is a no-frills, budget-friendly hotel (except during summer it seems). The rooms are very basic; I had a single queen bed on the ground floor. They did have a flat screen tv and good selection of cable channels.
