Ok. I have a transmission issue…read more Brought it in to determine the root-cause. They found an old (not cleared) thermostat problem that I fixed a year ago. It didn't totally close, thus not allowing the Cat o get up to temperature quickly enough. I replaced for $25 and 45 minutes, easy. Check-engine light disappeared. But obviously the code locked in. And also they said I needed a full replacement transmission. Which I don't deny may be required. , sorta. I am 71 years old, done professional car work since 17. The ONLY reason I am not doing this myself is age. But that said, before I would tear down anything I would already know what component is bad. A valve, cam sensor, etc. My symptoms are of a valve-body stuck valve, causing the clutch(s) to not fully engage. Thus I wanted a more concise explanation for why I should give them $5,000 - $6,000 to replace the entire Xmission. I really should have had a talk with the trained mechanic that could go into depth about the detailed reason it is giving me problems. But I got the worker at the register explaining the estimate to me. I have 100% confidence she has ZERO true mechanical knowledge/training past what to say. She should have called the Tech to talk to me. Had that happened I would have set an appointment to have it replaced. But given the weak thermostat ($330) ghost diag, I had zero confidence about the rest of their work. Reminds me of "give a kid a hammer and everything looks like a nail".

I've used both cars quite a bit and everything works great. The people are super nice. I think I read a review that said it was dirty. It's an auto shop. It's not a nail salon. The staff was very personable and even the technicians were very helpful and took time to answer my questions. I hope I don't have any more car issues but if I do, I will definitely go back to these guys.

March 2026 CarMax contracted some transmission work to this company after 3 weeks they said they had completed the work and took my car back to Carmax for me to pick up. An inspection was done and the transmission leak was NOT fixed, so my car was sent back to Budget Transmission around March 27th. That Friday evening and into the nighy I kept getting notifications from my car app that my doors were unlocked. I shrugged it off thinking they were working late trying to figure out the issue and get it fixed. Monday morning something told me to check my app and someone from this company had taken my car over the weekend and drove it almost 500 miles without my knowledge or permission!!! Not to mention my car was being driven during non business hours, 2 and 3 o'clock in the morning! I was livid!!! I'm still livid to think that people can be so disrespectful and completely careless with other people's property. Upon contacting Carmax and informing them of what happened, they were also shocked and told me they would bring it the owner's attention. They informed me that the owner was also surprised. I was desperate because we were planning to drive to North Carolina to visit my son, who is in the Marines. I called and spoke with Scott, who was incredibly kind and told me to bring the car in right away. Christian handled the diagnostics and explained that he would thoroughly inspect the vehicle and keep me updated. Christian went above and beyond from the very beginning. He first drove me to Enterprise to get a rental car, but they were completely booked. Without hesitation, he then drove me to Budget so I could get a rental there. He thoroughly tested my car twice and even had another mechanic drive and inspect it to make sure nothing was missed. He called to let me know everything looked good, but because he wanted to be absolutely certain, he offered to test it again on Saturday--his day off. True to his word, Christian called me first thing Saturday morning after driving and inspecting the car again. He said everything was running great and believed the issue had likely been a clogged catalytic converter that had cleared itself out. Christian was professional, honest, knowledgeable, and incredibly kind throughout the entire experience. What impressed me even more was that they didn't charge me for any of the extensive diagnostic testing or inspections they performed. Had my transmission rebuilt there on a 2007 Classic Siverado, took them forever to get it done, Now…read moreafter less than 25000 miles the truck will not go into reverse until it warms up. Im told it will need to be rebuilt again. My advise is stay away from this business!
