We had so much fun here with our 5 and 9 year old kiddos! We had a 7:15 reservation and arrived 5 minutes early on a Saturday night. The lobby was completely packed with people and we were seated around 7:35. That was a little unpleasant but everything else was great! They accommodated our request for all the nacho toppings in the side (after making fun of us of course!). The patty melt was great, chickadee just ok, and kids liked their hotdog and grilled cheese. Fantastic service that was age appropriate for the kids. My son told the server she got an F+ and she said oh thank you so much!!! He thought that was hilarious We were sat at a booth right next to the runway where the servers dance, which was a great view. A DJ has a running commentary through the evening as well. Stop at Ed's! Reminds me of childhood memories taking trips downtown with my dad- we'd always stop at Ed's for their famous 'sassy-rude' service and dancing on the counters! So much fun for all ages! Most recently, our server, "Gingy" played the part well and the kiddos thought she was pretty funny and had great "grooves"! You could tell she enjoyed entertaining! At one point she asked if my 5 year old son would go grab our drinks - he thought she was serious and truly wanted to help! Burgers are great - my personal fave is the Route 66, BUT with grilled chicken breast! Gingy was a tad annoyed that I wanted chicken instead of a burger, but the 'eye roll' was all in good fun! They work SO hard here. They are constantly running from place to place. We were entertained the entire time. The food was great and came FAST, which was a plus since we were starving. The long hot dogs are insane, and totally worth it! I was pleasantly surprised to see so many gluten free options too! The waiters and waitresses also take a break to perform a dance for you which was a fun surprise! Fun details are everywhere. My 7/o son LOVED this place. So much so, that we went for Dinner and then came for Brunch the next day. Food is solid diner food. I enjoyed both my meals - Turkey Club (with onion rings) and the Hippie Breakfast Skillet. Yes, it's a bit pricey for the food, but you're also paying for the entertainment. I came here with 4 of my friends and had a blast! The diner is so cute and the humor is great! I ordered the pulled pork sandwich which was delicious, and the seasonal pie (pumpkin pie). Our waiter was "Axel Danger" who was very funny (he throws insults at you and makes you get your own drinks but isn't that what Ed Debevics is?!) We we're seated at the only table available to fit the whole party but once another table left we asked to sit there (the table wasn't cleaned yet) and the waiter told us "you can have that table but you will wash it and clean it first, put the dishes here... and use these wipes!". The price was very reasonable (under $200 for 8 people to have two drinks each, one dessert, and one meal each). If you are looking for a nice diner to come where the service is good just simply don't come! Come here to expect rude waiters and bad service, that's the point! The ambience is true 50s diner. The service is great -but with plenty of sass and humor. Don't take them seriously and you'll be fine. I thought that was the extent of what I should expect. I was wrong. The food quality and freshness we're surprisingly great! Burger was juicy and flavorful, jumbo dog was authentic Chicago snap and taste, and crinkle cut fries were perfect. We had the best time on a Friday night at Ed Debevic's. The staff is hilarious. I somehow felt their snarkiness is their true nature. Serving customers let's them tap into their authentic nature. I loved ordering a "great big wiener." Where else can I do that? And where can I say, "I need that huge wiener" when it's delivered to my table? I thought the food was a bit overpriced, but I read on another review that the staff is paid a living wage and I'll contribute to that any day of the week. Happy to pay a bit more knowing it's going to the servers. Now let's talk about the singing and dancing. It's loud, Obnoxious and delightful. I could sing at the top of my lungs and no one could hear me except my kid, who was adequately embarrassed. You can't find a better music selection...50's, 60's and the Monday night football theme. Great fun! Walking in is like stepping into a time capsule and seeing the fucked up universe Biff Tannen created in back to the future 2. Lots of vintage signage and advertisements that add to the 50s diner vibe. However most of the decor has a unfriendly twist, perfectly fitting the service. Our server was just as mean and spiteful as I hoped. He took our drink orders by yelling at us from across the restaurant, brilliant! The food was slammed down rudely on the table and I enjoyed every second. The food was the only reason the Ed Debevics experience isn't 5 stars. I had a patty melt which was good but didn't warrant the somewhat hefty price tag even for Chicago. The fries were crispy and hit the spot. Overall if you don't mind spending a little extra for standard diner food the experience is definitely worth checking out! read more

What a fun spot for the kids! My husband and I took our niece and nephews (ages 8, 6 and 4) here before seeing a play, and they absolutely loved it! I had never been and was pleasantly surprised how much the kids enjoyed it- us too! Our hostess was rude and abrupt as soon as we walked in, and the kids were caught so off guard- it was great! Our waiter Smoke Stack was very fun and really engaged with the kids as they caught on to the theme of the restaurant. He was also very patient and entertaining despite how busy he was. The waiters also stopped mid-service and put on a fun dance. The kids were standing on their seats with excitement. Obviously, you go here for the experience more than the food but that was another pleasant surprise. The food was very good! I had the Cobb Salad. It was beautifully presented, colorful and delicious. My husband had the Avocado Caesar and added grilled chicken. It was very good- chicken was flavorful and moist. Two of the kids wanted an Oreo Shake. The waiter whispered to me if I would like him to split that into two smaller cups. The shakes were huge, so this was much appreciated. They still came in fun glasses with whipped cream, and the kids had no idea. They even put the remainder of the shake on the table which my husband happily enjoyed. My nephew had the Cheeseburger off the kids menu. It was a great size and came with hot, delicious fries. My nephew can be a picky eater; he thinks pickles and any melon is enough to sustain life. He ate his entire burger and all his fries! He kept saying "This burger is so good, so good!". My other nephew had the Hot Dog off the Kid's Menu and ate the whole platter. Insanely loud, terrible food, an assault on the senses. I get they have a schtick - they are rude to guests. But the DJ's music was so loud it hurt, no one could talk, and it felt like a form of torture. A friend put earplugs in! To top it off the burger meat was funky and the they had a bug in the salad. I walked in first time because I was super hungry. Inside design looks like a thousand unicorns puked , which is ok, but it kind of takes all the attention around. Then she brought me back to front desk . And guy was like " do you see the sign "wait till seated "? " The way those employees made ME FEEL STUPID for a second is just amazing !
