Had to try this place as It was one of my childhood favorites. Debated between a 3 and 4 star rating but the nostalgic factor and uniqueness ultimately earned today's dining experience a 4. Come with kids. Adults without kids have no business entering this place. The waitresses are just as I remember them- rude, wacky and snarky ( in a fun way). Make sure you stay to watch them dance- super cute. On to the food- not terrible. Better than it was in at the last location with a few standout healthier additions to the menu which include some decent salads and an impossible burger. If you want to go for junky options, the cheese curds are pretty delish and my daughter was quite content with her grilled cheese and fries and a world's smallest sundae. Now the downside- the noise. The noise level was insane. We could barely have a conversation at the table due to it. I definitely don't remember the original Ed's music being so loud and noisy. Also, I miss the parking lot at the original. Parking is kind of a pain in the area so I recommend public transportation. Check this place out at least once for a fun, kitschy, totally unique throw back to the 50's nostalgic dining experience with kids, tweens and teens. read more

Nice diner/touristy joint. As a local, haven't been in ten years and the food much better than the first time I remember it. I know the servers are supposed to be jerks but the server's pacing was confusing on getting food and drinks. Our experience was great until the end. A table of 30 entered, and our waitress was handling half of them. She got us our bill, but we also needed a box and refills. She said it was highly unlikely. We finally ended up heading toward the door and asking another waiter for a box, but that didn't happen. He just berated me (which I get is part of the deal but seriously?) Then I asked again at the counter. That same waiter was making comments about us carrying a burger around the restaurant, and still did nothing to help. Great burger and shake. The brusqueness of the wait staff took some getting used to but it added to the charm. We asked for napkins and all the sudden it was raining napkins over our table. While we were being seated the staff was doing a dance routine on a stage in the dining room. Good food, entertainment and a staff that kept things on edge. Fun place. read more

I understand the concept 100% and was so excited to try it. We are here as a team and knowing we were going to have a big group we made a reservation the night before. They told us they would accommodate to our size and our table would be ready at 11:30. No problem. We show up about 10 minutes early and they say we have to wait till our scheduled time. Of course no problem once again, even thought it was funny because of the attitude with the delivery. Well 11:30 came, then 11:45, then 11:55. We ended up leaving and it made us upset solely because we made a reservation and ended up waiting another 25 minutes for a table. read more

We made reservations for our party of four for 8:30am on a Saturday. As we walked in, we realized we didn't need them then! I think if you're going here for the atmosphere, you should probably stop in for brunch, or later in the day. If a o was an option I would have given that. I can deal with the sarcasm, the obnoxious servers who are so loud and rude if the food was great. It was NOT. Food was cold even though we asked for fries well done. 15 bucks for an order of fries with velveta cheese A total tourist trap .. who's going to complain if you are leaving on a fight the next day. I do not recommend this place . Overpriced for less than mediocre food. Total disappointment! Total crappy tourist trap! Get yourself a real meal , Chicago has soooo many fantastic restaurants! Growing up in Chicago, the original Ed Debevic's was a go-to, and because a favorite for our kids when they were growing up there. We were crushed when they closed, but by then we had moved to LA so only made it once or twice a year. So, we were so happy too see it had opened in a new location so close to our hotel when we were stopping over in Chicago for a holiday visit recently. The kids were thrilled. It was breakfast on a VERY cold and snowy morning a few days before Christmas. The place was empty, except for a few other tourists. The host and our waitress did a decent job of being snarky and sarcastic, and we even got a dance from the small staff. But the food was just, "meh." Our breakfasts were served slightly cold. The menu was really limited. I bet lunch and dinner are much better - but we're glad we got to get a little taste of Chicago nostalgia when we were home for the holidays. read more

Great food, humor, and ambience. But some of the servers (one in particular) was downright mean, and repeated his insults. Sure, I expect sassy, snarky, and sarcastic, but not directed against my appearance. Making kids and their parents laugh is a good thing, but do we want kids to learn that foisting insults on older people is acceptable? What if I were a person of color? Or had an obvious physical disability? Get a grip, Ed Debevics! Your staff can do their job and we can all have fun without hurting people and excusing it by saying "that's what you expect at Ed's". read more

Although her restaurant was advertised as open, she couldn't have been clearer with her displeasure to have us there than by the rude insinuations.
