I've been curious for a long time but never drunk enough to actually come here. I think a lot of the people who order are visiting patients at the nearby hospital and probably have no idea it's a carry out spot. We tried a smorgasbord of items. The shrimp egg roll, which my boyfriend called the cabbage egg roll was okay. Not amazing. Not the worst. Portions were generous especially for the price. The best dish we shared was the crispy Szechuan beef. But one can only eat so much of that ? We also got one of the tofu dishes. I can't remember which sauce. I friggin hated it. I found the sauce for the tofu and also for the drunken noodles to be thick. Thicckkkkkkk. The noodles for the drunken noodles and the shrimp in the drunken noodles were perfection. But the smell of the dish was an odd Marsala wine like scent ? Listen. We planned poorly for Christmas and this was open. Would i come back for egg roll fest and try every single egg roll? Yes. Am i craving this sometime soon? No Was the service good ? Yes. Great. Very friendly service. Quick. No line. Clean on the inside. So checking off the important boxes. I wouldn't tell someone 'don't go there' but I'd encourage you to manage your expectations. Is it better than what you might make at home ? Yes. Is is memorable ? I've eaten in a fair number of Chinese restaurants as it's my favorite cuisine. I do have some good things to say about this restaurant. I have tried it five or six times now, and I wanted to wait to try several dishes there before writing this review. I hope the owners will pay attention because this place really has great potential. In general, the food is very good or excellent, but a couple of the items are not. The Szechuan Chicken and Chicken with Broccoli are excellent. Singapore Noodles had a good flavor, but a bit over spiced with black pepper. Not with chili/garlic sauce or chili flakes, but overspiced with pepper. (Yes, I know the difference. My boyfriend is a chef), and the dish could use more vegetables. It didn't have any onion at all, which is usually standard with Singapore Noodles. The rice noodles themselves were a bit overcooked. I did like the flavor, though, and it's important to mention it because not all restaurants know how to make Singapore Noodles. Now on to the Orange Chicken. I will say that the sauce was the best I've ever had in my life! The downside is the fried chicken nugget pieces itself. It's 98% breading and only a tiny pencil eraser-sized piece of chicken in the middle of each breaded nugget. If you go ahead and open the nuggets yourself, you'll see that it's a ball of dough dipped in batter and then coated and flour and dipped in batter again. I was truly disappointed in this dish. We became curious and started opening all the nuggets, and many of them had no chicken in the middle. Try it yourself and see. We feel that this was deceptive, and for the price they charge, it really should have had noticeable pieces of chicken in it! This one dish made me very unhappy. I have a funny feeling that the General Tso's Chicken uses the same breaded nuggets, so we won't be ordering that anytime soon either. The Spring Rolls were a complete disappointment. The inside filling was unremarkable and mushy, and the wrappers were cold and soggy. Of at least 15 dishes we've ordered in the past month, we feel that where this restaurant really shines is in most of the main dishes and noodles. We really liked the others, and I have to say that even with a few blerps, all in all, this restaurant might be better than the majority of Chinese restaurants in Upper Montgomery County. I'd love to see them add some items to their menu, such as Cold Peanut Sesame Noodles, Spicy Eggplant in Brown sauce, and Vegetable or Chicken Goyza Dumplings. The prices here are about normal, but the portions could be a bit larger. They're okay, but not generous.. The most important thing is that this place is clean! I mean really clean. On a Friday or Saturday night when it's really busy, you'll be impressed to see the cooks crazily slinging woks, lots of big flames, and you'll agree it's certainly a show! This was delish! I have never thought I'd ever try a Chinese carry-out that tasted authentic, and this place did/does. Let's see, the steamed chicken dumplings was so savory and goes so well with the chili oil. The vegetable Lo Mein and Veg egg rolls were fresh, savory and a small portion Lo Mein was more than enough. The General TSO was decent; the chicken was fine but didn't care much for the fried rice. A solid take out place. We got delivery from here and I got the general Tso combination special. The egg roll was ok. The fried rice and chicken were great, where the chicken was cooked nicely and the sauce was great. The lo mein was also good without being too salty. I would get takeout from here again. read more

Recently checked out Éddie Leonard's after not going for many years. The steak and cheese is still good. I was new to dc and this carry out was dinner almost daily. The neighborhood still patronizes the business and the waiting is still the same. Very long. Still good though. Oh... and you have to get the fried chicken wings. I know I know... Unhealthy. Good take-out Chinese food for when your salt cravings get the better of you. Nothing fancy here, but you can find General Tso's for around $8 ready in 20-30 minutes. It's the classic looking corner store for served-from-behind-plexi-glass Chinese food and classic American fare for every manner of George Ave/Park View resident. Must try: fried chicken wings (consistent and delicious). As others note, don't forget the Mumbo sauce! NOTE: every dish is pretty greasy and their fry oil often tastes a bit old. This isn't a big problem for me but wanted others to be aware. Especially noticeable with Chicken/Broccoli and similar dishes. read more

As far as carryouts go, Eddie Leonard's hits the spot! Any fool on here who is concerned about them frying their chicken wings in the same oil as their catfish is just that: a fool. I'm the friend that Jeff went with that time. Unlike Jeff, I have never been to Eddie Leonard's earlier than 2:30 AM or not under the influence of alcohol, so I'm not qualified to make the "daylight" review. And honestly, I think Yelp should add a scale where a reviewer rates his level of intoxication while at the restaurant being reviewed, it could be very revealing. I mean, really, Jumbo Slice on 18th Street is getting 3 1/2 stars on average? I've had that garbage while sober, it's actually life threatening. On the other hand at 3 AM it can be life saving... But anyway, I felt it was important to add my comments. While I may have never visited Eddie Leonard sober, I've been there enough times to tell you that the fried chicken rocks. It's dirt cheap, too - you can get a 10 piece wings with fries for about 8 bucks. And we're not talking dinky little bar chicken wings, this is the whole deal - leg, wing and tip, all gloriously battered and deep fried to heart-stopping perfection. I would like to give Eddie's five stars, but some part of me just refuses to give a gritty chinese "we-sell-everything" restaurant a five star rating. I mean, seriously, they have chinese food, korean food, fried chicken, cheesesteaks, burritos, burgers, pasta, pizza, and I think I even saw a flan on the menu. What won't these guys make? I haven't ventured far beyond the fried chicken because it's so damn good. If I ever manage to sample the rest of their pan-global menu and it turns out that Eddie Leonards does everything better than the people who speciallzes in each of those cuisines, then I'll change my rating. But for now, four stars for kick-ass fried chicken an being open until 4 AM on weekends. Its a bit sketchy on Georgia ave late night for your average yuppie - but that is to be expected. I got an order of 3 wings and with mumbo sauce to go - and my friend ordered 4 with hot sauce. I thought it was wonderful but really - that was because this was post bar food - so I don't actually know how the food is normally. My husband kept raving about the cheese steaks because they were huge and tasty and he hasn't been there in years so one day we got a chance to go. The place had a huge variety of food on the menu, ranging from Chinese food to burritos and pizza. I ordered the cheese steak, fries with mambo sauce and a order of popcorn chicken since it looked good on the poster. It was amazing that I couldn't smell the food cooking behind the bulletproof glass. The operation looked well put together and very organized. It appeared to be clean and the staff had on uniforms. It didn't look like a typical Chinese carryout. Well, when I got home to eat, I was disappointed. The cheese steak had so much gristle in it and it was super chewy. I thought I ordered a cheese gristle! I couldn't even chew it. I had two choices, swallow the meat whole or choke! But, the fries and mambo sauce was on point. BUT the popcorn chicken...At first, I didn't know if they accidentally gave me popcorn shrimp but the more I ate it...I didn't know what kind of meat I was eating!! Oh Eddies.... I've been in the neighborhood for the last four years, and boy has it changed! But the one place that has been my rock is Eddie Leonards. The food does the job, and if you wait around, you'll be entertained by the clientele that frequent this establishment deep into the night. My go to orders are Hunan chicken, Szechuan chicken/pork and fried wings. Their Chinese-American fare is as good as my other favorite Chinese take out, Eastern Carry Out. You really can't go wrong with the the typical dishes here. But what this place really excels in, are the fried wings. Drunk or sober, they're incredibly crunchy and juicy and most importantly, consistent. I highly recommend you order the wings and don't forget the mumbo sauce! read more

Surprisingly Eddie's range in style from a classic carry-out spot with no tables and plexiglass to a sit-down dare I say formal vibe with waiter service and real dishes and all. When I lived on Gresham Place NW, I tried this carryout at least three times and every purchase was a downward disappointment. First, these people moved into the community to disrespect the fabric that holds the community together, their clientele. I do not want people bowing down to me because I patronize their business. I just want tasty, well prepared food even if it is carryout. Second, the food was just butt awful hideous. The chicken is way too over seasoned. Their french fries are soggy with grease due to the fact that they re-fry their potatoes. I once saw a cook back in the kitchen eating a beautiful dish and asked what it was. It was apparent that the food was steamed and by the looks of it, the preparation and taste was excellent. Needless to say, I was told that was not on the menu. They serve us garbage at top dollar and we're supposed to be satisfied with it. Well, we're at the point when I tell you all to stop eating here. Had a steak sandwich there back in summer of 1967 as a tourist. It was yummy. Glad to see they're still there. (Are they still in the same location?) The memorials and govt buildings were ok, and the Smithsonian and Natl Geographic Society were excellent, but the highlight of the trip for me was the steak sandwich, my first.
