Okay... Maybe it was just a bad night for Edgars... It was our first time there. We sat down at 6PM, weren't served our meal until 7:15. I realize it isn't fast food, but our drinks sat on the bar a full 15 minutes before being brought to the table (we watched them!) and we were never offered bread, or appetizers, etc. We didn't even know which waiter was assigned to our table as patrons came, were served, and left all around us and we were pretty much ignored unless we raised our hand. One waiter served water, one took the drink order, another brought the drink order, another took our meal order, another delivered it (with an extremely disinterested "enjoy." Yet another waiter asked if everything was okay, but by then it was too far into the mealtime to register a request or we would have been there another 45 minutes! My steak was way too spicy, salty for my tastes and even for my spicy-loving companion who tasted it. But his halibut was good. It was very busy, which may have contributed to the noise ... It's certainly more of a sporty restaurant than an elegant one, but I wasn't expecting much more at a golf course. read more

This is my first review on Yelp. We came here as a group of six for the Father's Day brunch just this past Sunday. The ad didn't mention what the selection was going to be, only that it was going be BBQ style. We arrived four our 12:30PM reservation on-time, and we sat in outdoor seating. The ambiance was nice and overlooked the driving range. We were given a menu, that had a selection of about seven regular items, and the option to do the Father's Day brunch. The Father's Day brunch for $40.00 per person as it was explained to us was that we were able to choose two out of the four main entree items, and we could have unlimited sides as we wanted. The "main" entree selections were grilled prawns, steak, sausage, and/or tandori chicken. The sides included a baked potatoes, very small build-your-own salad area, heirloom tomatoes, and beet salad. The desserts consisted of brownies, cookies, and fruit. Four out of the six of us opted for the BBQ brunch even though it didn't look very appealing and the setup was very small, the other items in the menu were not very exciting. In the $40 BBQ setup, you are only allowed two out of the four main entrees, even though it is all self-serve buffet style. The sliced beef was in the buffet warmer too long was beyond well done, and the tandori chicken, bone-in was undercooked. I stopped eating the chicken as well another one in my group after I got close to the bone and found the meat to be too pink and fleshy. One positive was that when we mentioned the beef was overcooked to the cook, he stated he would cook some on the rarer side for us which was nice. The service in general, (besides the under cooked chicken and lack of selection) is where it was inadequate. The restaurant was far from crowded, with only three tables being occupied the entire time we sat outside. After our first round of coffee, three of us asked for refills. It took three other times of asking different waiters for coffee that we were able to get our second refill. Once the coffee was being served, we had asked if they could leave the carafe with us so that we can serve ourselves rather than waiting fifteen minutes for another refill. We eventually had to clear our own plates to the side ledge ourselves as the waiters were slow and non-existent after serving us water and coffee. My suggestion is that if you see a "special event" advertised for Edgar's their website, that you ask to see the menu first before making the reservation so that you know what you are getting into. The limited menu, subpar service, overcooked/undercooked food, and price point for their Father's Day BBQ just left a sour note in my mouth. There are definitely better options in Carmel. read more

A satisfying clean meal after a relaxing massage at Refuge. A table by the fire on a cool Monday night. Excellent salads and entrees. Variety of menu items with a server willing to swap sides. Both the halibut and sea bass were well seared, seasoned, and accompanied. OMG! Based on the mixed reviews I was apprehensive, but the food and ambience were amazing. My wife and I shared the beet salad. The arugula as super fresh and the beets were delicious. We then split the squash ravioli and it was fantastic. The dish was prepared perfectly. We finished off with each ordering the sand dabs. Again, fantastic. We sat outside by the fire with a heat lamp. Perfect evening. read more

Recently my husband and I went with a small group to dinner at Edgar's at Quail Lodge. We were impressed with the ambiance, attentive service, and food which was both attractively presented and delicious. I had the lamb sirloin which came with a lightly garlicky mashed potato and a variety of fresh vegetables. The meat was perfectly prepared to my order of medium rare (red with some pink). My husband very much enjoyed the halibut special with saffron risotto. We both appreciated that the restaurant adheres to Seafood Watch standards, and that the halibut is longline caught from a sustainable fishery. Perhaps more importantly to a hungry man, the fish was very fresh and perfectly cooked. He said that the risotto and accompanying vegetables were delicious, too. We did not, unfortunately, try any of the desserts, but the dessert menu looks very interesting and we will have to save room next time we are there to try something. Important navigation tip: The restaurant is located in the lower level of the "Golf Club at Quail Point." The location is more accurately 7651 Valley Greens Drive. Luckily, I did not blindly trust my navigation app to get us there, because two different navigation programs deserted us when we turned off of Carmel Valley Road at Valley Greens Drive. Since I had looked at the location on the map, I knew that we needed to continue about 0.4 miles, and that the golf club would be on the right (guest parking is across the street on the left). We're staying at the Hotel and had dinner at Edgar's our first night and again tonight. We couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised! The restaurant has a fresh feel and is very clean and well maintained with nice views of the golf course and outdoor seating. They feel strongly about local sourcing and organic ingredients and it shows, wonderful flavors sometimes with a pleasant twist. You can tell the food on your plate was hand made with passion for the art. The menu is diverse but not expansive, you'd be hard pressed to not find something to like. During the course of our vacation, my wife and I have been able to sample the menu several times, it's hard to go wrong, fish, flat iron steak, lamb, but their tenderloin is to die for, melts in your mouth! BTW, my wife says their chowder beats anything on cannery row. read more

Edgar's has been revamped with an all new organic menu. The food here is always consistent and the staff is very friendly and prompt. Everything on the menu is fresh as there is an assortment of healthy choices. There are tons of great salads, seafood, and steak options. My favorites are the flatbread pizzas and the sand dabs. This is a great place for a nice family dinner as it is never too crowded. There is also lots of outdoor sitting which is perfect on a nice evening. This is an update to the 2015 review. We had Sunday dinner at Edgar's and were very happy with our meals. It seems there have been quite a few improvements in the menu and kitchen staff since our last visit 3 years ago. The salmon was wonderful, moist and savory. And the mushroom ravioli was rich and tasty. The vegetable sauce was really good and made a fine complement to the meal. Deduct one star for the noise level, but that improved as the meal went on, and the erratic service. But overall quite a nice meal. Highly recommended. read more

Nice place and normally I was give it one more star except for two things: my sandabs were not so fresh and the service was fair. Yet it was early on Christmas day when we dined there and I can understand most people don't like to work on holidays. The coffee was great though. My husband's quiche was delicious and my mother's soup was terrific. Portions were good. The ambience is great with a view of the golf course and they have outdoor seating. Edgar's is a beautiful gem tucked a bit out of the way off of Carmel Valley Road. The food is amazing with service to match! Every staff member was attentive and friendly. If you go, I hope you are lucky enough to get Sam as your waiter he's the best! It was quiet the couple of times I've been there for lunch. We just celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary at Edgar's. We are Carmel Valley locals who have never had dinner here until tonight! It was delicious. Had the beet salad which was amazing and fresh. I had the Sand Dabs and my husband had the pasta- both dishes were delicious. Our waitress was darling and answered all of our questions. We left there full and happy! We will eat here again, probably in the summer when we can sit outside and watch the sky change with the sunset. read more

Place is ok the crab cakes were great! With the exception of the the pieces of shells that I kept finding. My boyfriend started with the shrimp cocktail which was nothing special. I got the seafood pasta which had great flavor and scallops perfectly cooked but each bite had sand in it, made it hard to enjoy. My boyfriend had the steak which he didn't take more than two bites, It was tough and lacked flavor. Our desert was tasty! Unfortunately I would never come back, there are much better places in the area for half the price! We visit the coast quite often and will be avoiding this place for sure! I was taken to dinner here by my boyfriend tonight and I'm so glad he picked Edgar's! The place is gorgeous. It felt super classy and clean. Everything was beautiful and I ended up wanting to sneak the adorable mason jar my lemonade was served in home with me. :p Evan was our server and he was just the sweetest. Friendly and provided just the right amount of attentiveness. We ordered the pork belly appetizer, the chicken satay, a cup of the soup of the night - chicken tortilla - and the seasonal ravioli. The pork and chicken were great. The soup and ravioli came out afterward, and when we sipped the soup we realized we had received clam chowder. (Which was also delicious! But not what I really wanted). When I pointed out the mistake to Evan, he immediately went to grab a cup of chicken tortilla and actually packed up the clam chowder to go for us! So kind! I was marveling over the chicken tortilla, so simply because he's so awesome, he surprised us with a cup of the chicken tortilla to go as well! Just as a bonus because he said the chef appreciated how much I enjoyed the soup. What a lovely, lovely experience. We will be back! read more

Just had Monday lunch on the patio (had our Golden Retriever with us). Found the service polite, but slow and inattentive. Chilly on the patio and had to ask twice to have the portable heater ignited. We both ordered the clam chowder, which took a good 10 minutes to be delivered to our table. It was delicious, but could of been hotter. Was it sitting waiting to be picked up? You have to have cracked black pepper with your chowder, but we had to ask for it. Isn't it tradition to have bread served with chowder? Not at Edgar's. I had the roast beef sandwich w/ a Cesar. Both very good and highly recommended. My better half had the butternut squash flat bread. She found it to be very tasty. Outside of having to ask for the basics, slow service, the overall experience was pleasant. read more

The Kale salad was very good. Unlike many kale salads, the kale was tender. Half portion was plenty as a salad starter. The pork chops are fantastic. It's the only thing I've ever ordered here because it is just that good. My husband ordered the lamb sirloin and it was also wonderful. All of the food is organic and purchased somewhat locally. It is not too crowded and fairly easy to get in without a reservation. Lovely golf club setting. read more

Had the good fortune of eating dinner at Edgar's recently as we were celebrating a family birthday. It was a pleasant surprise. The staff was very attentive and friendly and the food was fantastic; especially the lamb and the pork entree's. The atmosphere is a little dated and the bar was so so, but if you want a delicious meal and not too pricey in Carmel I highly recommend it. read more

We have been here several times. The place is a bit quirky: part country club, part hotel and somewhat off the tourist radar. What we really like about it is that the food is consistently excellent, the outdoor seating is beautiful and relaxed, and the valley scenery surrounding guests is gorgeous. We eat out a lot and are always shocked by the quality and presentation of the dishes here. A salad came out in an enormous handmade bowl strewn with edible flowers and full of ingredients (not just a mound of greens with few toppings). The flatbread was served on a hefty wooden paddle. Very light, homemade pizza crust-type texture. The club sandwich was enormous and again full of high quality ingredients. The fish and chips were light and crispy. Generous portion of sand dabs. The bread brought out before our meal was moist and yummy. Desserts were some of the best we had at any of the local restaurants: homemade peach pie and perfectly done chocolate lava cake. This type of cake is often over or under baked, but this version got it just right and the chocolate was rich and of high quality. If you dine on the patio, the service can be spotty, but we actually appreciated that the wait staff weren't hovering over us, allowing us to enjoy a leisurely time. Go for the food and scenery. There are a lot of mediocre expensive restaurants in Carmel, but this one is underrated. One other thing to add: My dining companions were southern and were craving fried oysters. We asked if the chef could make them for us. Our waiter said that the chef could do so, but then said that the type of oysters served that evening would not fry well, and went into a detailed explanation about it (moisture, size, etc. of these particular oysters). I loved that the chef works to accommodate patrons, and was so thoughtful about the matter. We look forward to dining here again. read more

I have one complaint. Her half salad was $6.50 and she added avocado which was $4.25. I find that a little excessive. read more

My wife and I went to Edgar's for the first time last night. We are many years local residents, but never got to the restaurant - wish we had done it earlier. We had a superb late evening light dinner, and the service could not have been better, more welcoming or warm. We both had a salad. Mine the valley mix: fresh organic greens from local farms, not the standard bagged spring mix, and lightly dressed. She had the kale, perfect! I had the best local calamari I have ever had. Light crispy breading, fresh calamari and thin slice, breaded meyer lemons, and green beens, all lightly breaded and fried. Not greasy, not heavy, just perfect. My wife had the Carmel Valley flatbread. She loved it. No question we'll be back, and back. Think this might become our new favorite local place. read more

We have always had Thanksgiving at Edgar's. The setting is beautiful. The ambiance is nice. The service has always been acceptable, the food good and the price reasonable (about $30 person from the special T-day menu, plus tax/tip). In 2014, they have almost doubled the price to $55/person for a simple buffet. That is too bad. For that price, there are just too many Monterey/Carmel options available to us. We will miss Edgars. read more
