The initial quick check on my home was great! They came in and performed the evaluation, provided some light bulbs and a power strip along with recommendations to improve the comfort of our home. The situation following this is why I rated with 1 Star. Numerous delays led to 6 months of waiting to schedule and complete work. Once work was scheduled, issues that I wished to have addressed were not addressed in the work that was done. Work that was promised was not completed with some being credited back. However, other work that I wanted to be done I was told would be at additional charge after they were done. Be very careful to get everything in writing clearly and have them walk thru what work they will perform. I made multiple efforts to contact Ecobeco to schedule an energy audit. I tried email, their website, and phone (2 voicemails). On what I told myself was my last attempt I got through to someone but was told the schedulers were in a meeting and that they'd get back to me later that day. However, I never heard from the schedulers. I tried once more and left a (third) voicemail. Still no response. I used Ecobeco for my previous house and was very pleased with them. But from my recent experience, the quality of their customer service seems to have fallen off a cliff. read more

Several years ago I had used Ecobeco for energy audits in two previous homes. I was satisfied with their service. However, in trying to do an energy audit in my current home, I cannot even get them to call me back. I'm not even sure they're in business anymore as the phone keeps going to voice mail. I filled out the contact form on their web site. No response. OK, I thought maybe it isn't working. I called a week later and left a voice mail. No response. Hmmm. I tried two days later and left another voice mail. No response. I thought I'd give it one last try and I reached Chris, a live person. After waiting on hold for about two minutes he told me the schedulers were in a meeting and they'd call me back. No luck, still no call back. So I called again that afternoon and it went straight to voice mail. I don't know what's up at Ecobeco, but I finally gave up. I called another firm and they responded immediately. The best part about these folks is that they are really smart and they aren't pushy. They came to my house and did a comprehensive energy audit. Then worked with me to not only construct a plan I could afford, but also costed out the rebates that I could get. And they filed some of the rebate paperwork for me! Ecobeco made pretty extensive insulation and additions and sealing measures (attic and basement insulation, crawl space vapor barrier, etc.). I was particularly happy with their health and environmentally-conscious approach, acknowledging and weighing the financial costs and benefits of each modification, allowing me to make informed decisions. I was happy with the responsiveness and thorough answering of my questions before, during, and after install. In 2017, I contracted with them via Pepco because the upstairs rooms were hotter than the rest of the house, costing me greater A/C expenses. I worked with them on an energy audit to the upstairs bedrooms, removal of the acoustic ceiling tile in one room, addition/improvement of insulation, sealing in kneewalls, installation of new ceiling, insulation in the basement, and a follow-up energy audit. The auditor was very prompt and friendly but the workers didn't do an excellent job. The contractor was flaky. The HVAC crew were sloppy. The drywall installer/carpenter was friendly but did a low-grade job by using low grade wood for the knee wall doors, and he set the ceiling inappropriately for house settling (now there are cracks between ceiling and walls). The energy audit following the work showed improvement but I'll need additional solutions to get the house to a more efficient state. I wouldn't recommend them. read more

ecobeco did a comprehensive home energy audit for my home in Silver Spring. I'm planning to have them do my air sealing and insulation in the next few months. During the energy audit they were very thorough. After their inspection and tests, they walked through the house with me to point out their findings and preliminary suggestions. My auditors Jim and Reuven were very knowledgeable and offered several customized solutions for issues in my home. They did all the tests I wanted to have done including the blower door test, combustion safety testing of my furnace, water heater, and oven, and they used an infrared camera to scan my walls for hidden insulation gaps (and took a portrait of my dog for fun). The report I received a couple weeks later showed me how much energy savings and money I could save if I made some improvements. I was hesitant about getting an audit at first. However, all the consultants, workers and staff were so patient with me and very knowledgeable about the subject matter I became open to the idea of getting the audit, then the insulation in my home. I asked a ton of questions and never were any of the staff bothered by it. Once the work was completed, the staff followed up to be sure the things were in order. This company does more than solar installation as listed here; they do home energy audits and suggest energy efficiency improvements. We have an older home, and our home inspector suggested that we get an energy audit to learn ways we can improve our home's efficiency. Pepco subsidizes this service, so you can get a thorough audit (plus coupons, low flow faucets, and light bulbs!) for only $100. We scheduled our audit and completed an online questionnaire about our home. Olu Olufunmilade came promptly as scheduled, with a lot of cool equipment. He sat down with us and explained the process for 15-20 minutes, and then started his work. The audit involved investigating common culprits like insufficient attic insulation and windows (which are rarely the biggest problem, apparently). Olu tested how well our boiler and hot water heater were drafting, and set up a big fan to detect drafts. He patiently answered our questions throughout the process, and at the end he installed energy efficient light bulbs and faucets around our house. Our report will arrive in a week and will detail all of their recommended improvements. With our permission, Ecobeco will connect us with vendors who can install insulation and help us with our HVAC systems. Olu was really helpful, knowledgable and thorough. He gave us his honest opinions without being alarmist about anything. This audit wasn't something I would have thought to do, but it ended up being a great inspection of the whole house, and helped us prioritize future work. Plus if we do the upgrades with insulation and a better boiler, there are all kinds of rebates and tax credits to take advantage of. I highly recommend this service, and highly recommend Ecobeco (and Olu!) to do the audit! read more

Ecobeco is a very knowledgeable and professional home energy company. After performing the home energy audit they identified where in my home where air leakage was accruing and the amount of attic insulation was needed to keep the warm and cool air inside my home. They completed they proposed work of air sealing and attic insulation at reasonable price, and offered a discount coupon from their monthly newsletter. We noticed the difference right away.
