Nearly 4 years later I'm still a patient of Dr. Edmonds. I highly recommend this practice if you're searching for a new, easy-to-like, caring dentist. He's very personable, down-to-Earth and always willing to address my concerns; even though I may sound like a hypochondriac at times. :) His office staff are super friendly, too. I like that the same women welcoming you and making your appointments are also the ones who can answer insurance and billing questions. I can't fathom how this dental office has gotten bad reviews. Perhaps the reviewers were at the other Metropolitan Square Dental which is in the same plaza? (note: Dr Edmonds and Dr's Sherman are THE original Metro Square Dental.....). I have been a patient of Dr James Edmonds since 2001 when he was with another dental office downtown just a few blocks from my office. I had a bad experience with that dental office as a whole but found Dr Edmonds to be honest, ethical and not willing to follow the marching orders of a boss who was out to make money off of the county dental plan. The owner of the clinic wanted to do thousands of dollars of dental work that Dr Edmonds felt was unnecessary. At that moment, I knew I had found my new dentist. I was willing to follow him wherever he moved to! Flash forward a few years when Dr Edmonds left that practice and began working in Des Plaines. Despite not having any business or friends or relatives in the Des Plaines area, I continue to drive twice (sometimes more) yearly for my scheduled cleanings and routine dental care. I had a filling redone yesterday and it was a doozy. Despite a long time in the chair and tons of drilling, once the novocaine wore off, I had no pain of discomfort. Throughout the procedure, both Dr Edmonds and the dental tech, Rebeca, were courteous and sensitive to how I was doing, etc. From the staff to the decor to Dr Edmonds cheery disposition, I cannot say enough positive things about him and this dental facility. Really impressed with my experience. After having Invisalign, I am very careful about who takes care of my teeth. Hygienist was great cleaning my teeth and giving me tips to improve my routing. Dentist took time time talk to me about the condition of my teeth and ways to avoid problems. Very, very pleased with treatment! I'm recommending them to my friends and co workers. read more

We've been coming here for about 10 years now, having seen all 3 of the dentists that are (or were) in the practice. I started with Dr. Edmonds's father-in-law and then transitioned to Dr. Edmonds after his FIL retired. My husband always liked him, so I was willing to try too. I'm sooo... not a fan of anything dental, and Dr. Edmonds knows that. He makes sure I'm comfortable at all times, trying his best to keep any pain at a minimum. He is thorough and his staff is great, always friendly. My husband still sees him and our son does too. read more

Okay. I wrote a very negative review because they never got back to me to set up an initial appointment/consultation. They had 3 days to do so. Rather than call me since they had my number, they had to reach out to me via yelp. I was able to make contact and set up an appointment. I even took the time to contact my previous dentist to have them transfer my records. As a result, I removed my negative review. Unfortunately, due to a family emergency, I had to cancel and left a message with them explaining this and that I would call to reschedule. I called this morning, a day that they are open, and, once again, I'm still waiting for a return call. I'm sorry but I'm done. I wonder what excuse they'll give this time? If the office is reading this, I would like my records returned to me. read more

1. I am a wuss when it comes to dental work and this team has been great for me. 2. I feel they have a perfect balance of a gentle touch and genuine concern for me as a person. 3. When I have had an 'emergency' they have fit me in ASAP. 4. I have and continue to recommended them to coworkers and family. Dr. Edmonds is phenomenal. It had been way way too long since I had gone to the dentist so I was expecting a lot of problems upon my return. I had never gone to Metropolitan Square Dental Care before and was nervous (as I said it had been awhile, and I have zero pain tolerance). As expected I had some problems, and needed a root canal and some fillings. Dr. Edmonds showed me the xrays and pictures of my teeth to point out exactly where everything was, and explained the necessary procedures with great detail while also making it easy to understand for someone with no knowledge of dental terms. After 5 appointments I had all the work completed and it all went extremely well. He was gentle and made me feel comfortable despite my initial nervousness. I am no longer dreading going back for teeth cleanings and check ups. The front desk was extremely helpful and laid out my payment options after the first appointment. They also give you a reminder call a day or so before your appointment which is nice. Kunjal cleaned my teeth and was very nice about how bad they were. She showed me new techniques as well as where I needed to focus on to correct any mistakes and avoid cavities. Overall I am extremely lucky as I loved my pediatric dentist growing up (I stayed with Dr. McAllister until I reached the age limit) and now I love my new dentist. So far everything has gone extremely well and I am pain free! read more

I have been a patient in this practice for years. Dr Edmonds has been my dentist for this past year. I HIGHLY recommend him. Every visit starts with a warm hand shake and brief catch up on family. After sharing with him my anxiety about dentists, he is very conscientious about keeping me as pain free as possible. He informs me every step of the ways what he is doing, what I will be feeling. The work I have had done is great work! I have had fillings and crowns and they look great! I would recommend this practice and especially Dr Edmonds to everyone! New to the area and needed a local dentist. Happened to find Edmonds and Sherman Dental and I'm very glad that I did. The office is very clean and orderly and the staff very kind and helpful. Dr Edmonds is very friendly and easy to talk to. He explains exactly what hes going to be doing and puts his patients comfort first. Although I have not had the pleasure of working with Dr. Sherman, I'm sure she operates the same. I plan to continue going to Edmonds and Sherman and would highly recommend them to anyone. read more

I have been going to Dr. Edmonds for years now and he is by far the best dentist I've ever been to. The staff is very welcoming and personable with every visit. I feel well taken care of from the moment I step into the waiting room. They have a minifridge with some water bottles for patients waiting. Although the wait is usually no longer than 5 minutes. There was one time, they were running behind schedule and I had to wait 15 minutes before being seen. They were very apologetic about it and even gave me a Starbucks giftcard. Dr. Edmonds is always very enthusiastic about addressing my concerns and giving recommendations. I love how they play some music while they work on you. Keeps me distracted from the sounds of the tools. I used to always be nervous with every visit to the dentist, until I found this place. They make you feel comfortable here. I have been going to Edmonds and Sherman Dental for 4 years now, and it is by far the best dentist I have been to. The staff is very personable, genuinely care about you and make you feel welcome. Janet and Sharon at the front desk are phenomenal. They really get to know their patients by name, which makes a huge difference! Dr. Edmonds and Dr. Sherman are very professional and knowledgeable! They have given me great recommendations and always do a wonderful job on my teeth. I have very sensitive teeth and gums and they go above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. Dr. Edmonds and his office staff make you feel like you are family. He is a great dentist. I always had problems with my teeth and was really uncomfortable smiling but Dr. Edmonds did my crowns and gave me my smile back! I took my mom to her dentist and her dentist couldn't believe that my teeth were crowns. Me, my husband and 3 kids are all patients and really happy with services. I highly recommend this dental clinic. The staff is extremely friendly and the Dentists are really, really good. I just had 2 crowns put in and I didn't experience any pain! His staff is friendly and supportive and they are very flexible with appointments. I have horrible teeth and going to the dentist is always a little embarrassing as I feel judged, not with Dr. Edmonds he was gentle and understanding. Ally is the best!! The entire staff here are so courteous, caring, and kind. The first person who I dealt with was Ally and she is wonderful, she made sure I was always comfortable and she gives the best shots! They start out wonderful until they have you. then it all changes , they try to get you for unnecessary services and bill you for items not needed. Do your homework. Don't go here you wont be happy. I wonder if the insurance companies are aware of the services that are not needed,but they are just trying to pad the bill. read more

Another great appointment with the folks at Metropolitan dental. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The cleaning was thorough and painless. My hygienist gave me some tips on flossing and taught me about some best practices for keeping teeth clean without giving up coffee and tea. :) I was able to ask Dr. Edmonds some questions. He carefully explained to me which procedures are necessary and which would be optional as well as the expected cost and insurance coverage for these options. Great folks, great dentist! read more

Dr. Edmonds and the team at Metropolitan Square Dental are THE BEST. I am terrified of the dentist - always have been - but since coming to him 18 years ago, I can actually say that I don't mind going! Dr. Edmonds is kind and doesn't talk down to you when he is telling you why you need a procedure and how he's going to do it. He understands that sometimes a patient needs time to digest information and he's always willing to give it to you. I was very much so looking forward to my visit at this dentist. I did not have dental coverage for a couple years, so when I finally got it at work, I signed up to come here because it was in my network. I am very disappointed that I came. It was one of the worst dental experiences that I have had. They did not have a dental hygenist clean my teeth, but the dentist himself cleaned them and did it faster than I have ever seen, and was very rough. My entire visit, including cleaning, exam and x-rays was 20 minutes. The cleaning was rushed, painful and I felt as though I was totally taken advantage of. I will not be returning to this practice, but will be looking for a practice that takes more time to clean throughly, makes me feel welcome, and doesn't rush me through a 20 minute dental appointment. I have been to 3 other dentists in my life and have never felt this upset when I have left. I feel like I need to make an appointment with a new dentist just to get my teeth properly cleaned, but they hurt a bit too much after the rough cleaning I had today. I was hoping this would be a great office as I had a few people ask me if they should go to him, but there is no way I will refer anyone to this practice. read more

Although I didn't get a chance to visit the office, I'm glad I didn't. I called this office on June 2016, to make an appointment for July. I had already changed my Insurance, the staff was very clear in their policy to new patients, they can't schedule appointments until the patient's name appear on their list, not even if I had already received my insurance card. By this time I had already called twice, one when I switched and another one when I got the card. The second time, the staff told me to call back on July 1 when they get the new list, I told them that I really needed to make 3 appointments and before August, they assured me that there wouldn't be any problem, that I could get the appointments within the week that I called. Ok! I called July 1st and guess what, they told me I still could make the appointments because they didn't have the LIST yet, to call back on Wednesday July 6th. I called July 7th left a message, didn't get a call back, called back Friday July 8th and guess what. I was told that on Monday July 5th, they have decided NOT to take new patients anymore!!! What! yes and that they still did not have the famous LIST available. Not fair, very, very disappointed!! They should've taken me and my kids since I had been calling since June. Very inconvenient, because now I have to search for a new dental office and wait another month! Ridiculous!!! read more
