Fantastic food, but be prepared for a wait. Matsuri has…read morethat small, authentic feel that you look for in a local sushi spot. While the service was a bit of a rollercoaster, the quality of the fish definitely makes it worth a visit. The Food: Albacore Sashimi: This was the standout. The tangy flavor was a perfect complement to the fresh albacore. My only critique is that I wish it had a bit more of that delicious sauce! Spicy Tuna Mango Roll: A great balance of sweet and spicy--highly recommend. Crunch Dragon Roll: Another hit with excellent flavor. I'd definitely order this one again. Cajun Tuna Sashimi: This was the only letdown; it lacked the Cajun punch and felt more like standard tuna sashimi. The Service: This is where the experience dipped. We arrived at the peak of the busy hour and waited quite a while just to be greeted and seated. The kitchen seemed a bit chaotic--you could actually see the head chef and manager/owner arguing over workspace, which clearly slowed things down. Our server wasn't very attentive, and our final sashimi order took over 20 minutes to arrive. I'm giving them 4 stars because the food is high quality. I'll be back for the albacore, but I'll probably try to avoid the peak rush next time!

The worker helping us…read morewas really nice and patient, especially when explaining the different sauce options and helping us figure out combinations. They didn't make us feel rushed at all and were really welcoming throughout the whole ordering process. The fish tasted really fresh, which is one of the biggest things I look for in poke, and they had a good variety of sauces to choose from depending on what flavor you're in the mood for. The toppings bar was also really solid with a lot of options, and everything looked fresh and well stocked. I liked that you could customize your bowl however you wanted and still have everything pair well together. One thing I really liked is that they actually pack the containers full, so it genuinely feels worth the money. I even got a small bowl once, and it was still loaded with fish, toppings, and everything else. The inside is clean, spacious, and has plenty of seating, so it's a nice spot to sit down and enjoy your food instead of feeling cramped.

Not sure if it is because of the area, if it is just what the establishment attracts as far as…read moreapplicants, or if the management intentionally hires unwelcoming staff, but the service has only been good here one time and this was around Covid times. There have been times the staff seems high and blown out of their minds. Other times they are too busy chatting up with coworkers to acknowledge or provide even the basic decency of customer service. Then, more often than not you are treated almost as a bother. Due to the service here, I have stopped dining in and opt for calling a phone order to take out. On three separate occasions now, within the last 3 months, they have neglected the phones for orders. They would rather disconnect or turn off the phone completely to avoid any future orders. This comes as a surprise when in about 10 minutes of my first attempted call, I see a staff of four people, yet only one customer. I believe there was no excuse as to why they could not answer the phone. I confirmed they accept take out orders essentially until closing. I have always been mindful to not attempt to order within 30 minutes of them closing. The service here is appalling and truly diminishes their potential for how great the spot could be considering the food they have. Food on the other hand is a total opposite of the service, very flavorful and strong punch of spice at a level 3. My go to is the Wonton ramen with a miso base. Crispy rice is a great starter to share. The garlic ramen is also a great contender if you have a garlic craving. Open layout feels like a mom and pop shop. Overall pretty clean establishment. Occasional tweaker going in for the bathroom closer to the end of the night.

After seeing thousands of reviews, I decided to give this place a try. I visited on a Saturday in…read morethe late afternoon, and surprisingly, there was no one else in the restaurant when we arrived. There was only one staff member present, and unfortunately, the experience did not start with a warm welcome. She simply handed the menu to me and told me to sit wherever I wanted, rather than greeting us properly and showing us to a table or placing the menu on the table. While this may seem like a small detail, first impressions matter and unfortunately, this initial interaction set the tone for the rest of the experience. We chose 'Build your own Ramen' where every item is itemized and priced. I had the Tonkotsu broth with Pork Chashu which - 4/10; some part of noodles still clumpy, broth is decent and not that great, chashu piece is the only good thing, comes in thick chunky cut. While my husband got Kazi which is the dry noodles - 5/10, taste is quite garlicky however it's quite spicy for 'just right' spicy level. One thing I noticed during my visit was that the waitress appeared somewhat disengaged from her work. She had a TV show playing nearby and seemed to spend a noticeable amount of time watching it rather than attending to customers. Unfortunately, the overall level of attentiveness and hospitality did not meet my expectations. The atmosphere initially seemed appealing, with the painted wall décor giving the space a cool and distinctive look. However, the music coming through the speakers was not particularly enjoyable, as the sound system seemed disproportionate to the size of the room.

However, the service in Yucaipa needs a lot of improvement. We weren't checked on once and had to ask for everything we needed, and it honestly felt like the staff was bothered anytime we asked for something. I understand this is a new location and there are going to be growing pains, but everything felt very unorganized. If you're going to open to the public, there should still be a basic level of organization and customer service. Bad service can ruin an experience just as quickly as bad food can. The food was great -- I just hope the service catches up!
