Another crazy meal at Eel River. Wife had the corndog, with upgrade to sweet potato fries, said it was delicious. I had all you can eat fish and chips, 5 pieces of delicious fried fish with crunchy thin batter, ate them, server stopped back before I was done, got me another 5 pieces. Wife ate one chunk, fish was fantastic and cooked to order. Had maybe 5 fries. Ate a little house made tarter sauce, nicely herbed. Had an African Queen again, then had a Hazy IPA. Humboldt Brewery Tour Stop #5 Located in Fortuna around 3-4 motels, strange location, but good for walking not driving. They are the first organic brewery in the country so "be natural, drink naked" and drink craft beer. There beer is solid and they have lots of options for everyone. We enjoyed a sampler with: Acai Berry Blonde Amber IPA Porter Raven's Eye Imperial Stout Saison Amber and the Saison stood out. The food also stood out. They had so many options and we enjoyed the appetizers that complemented the beer. Our server was attentive and friendly and added to our experince. read more

We stoped here to check out the Brewery since my boy friend works at Lagunitas we like to check out the local spots. I normally purchase their Amber Ale at Whole Foods since I a firm believer in consuming Organic and Non GMO goods. Which to my understanding Eel River is all about using local and healthy ingredients. Unfortunately I came from Petaluma to have Amber Ale on draft and they did not have it, but they made it up with the Fortuna Fog Ale which is a Red Ale and it was delicious. The food; I came here and wanted the Pulled Pork Sand-which and noticed it's only a specialty item. The kitchen made it for me anyways, it was sweet and spicy very delicious. My boyfriend ordered the Pastrami Rueben Sandwich and he said it was good. Think he was more focused about the beer selection, he says go for the Hazy Boom Box Pale Ale or the Emerald Triangle which is their own line yet it is a different way of crafting the beer. Not a bad little spot that seems to be the place to be on Friday nights. I got a glass of wine and the husband a beer, both nice. We also ordered the "pick any 3" which was the chicken tenders, onion rings and potato skins... all 3 were homemade which was awesome, they just could of just a tad bit of seasoning. All in all, I would recommend... just be aware that it seems to be full of locals who get rowdy after a few. read more

This is a review of the food only, as I didn't try any drinks. We ordered the chili burger, spinach salad, and BBQ ribs. Hearty and filling, as it ought to be. Wasn't the best I've ever had but not the worst either. I think people go here for the organic beers and other specialty drinks, not the food. Service was a little on the slow side, maybe because there was a huge party on a Friday night. Awesome brewery with delicious food. Food portions are very generous. The clam chowder was exceptional; more like a loaded baked potato soup with clams. So good! I came here on a busy Sept night and they were on point! My waitress was quick to take our orders and checked in with us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. As for the food, I had a swordfish special with mash potatoes that was delicious. My coworker said the fish and chips weren't that great and tasted like they were a little old, but he still ate it. The beer choices were great and my waitress seemed very knowledgeable about the craft selections. I also love that the place has an outside patio! Eel River offers convenience for the conference center visitors and the surrounding hotel guests since there is no need to drive somewhere to get a quick happy hour brew or dinner. This restaurant has a nice ambiance and fun activities that you can do outdoors like corn hole and an adult size Jenga. You can choose to sit at the bar, at a table inside the restaurant, or a table outside the restaurant. We stayed at a hotel within walking distance so it was nice to have a couple of drinks and walk back to the hotel. They also have good deals on drinks if you go during happy hour. They serve pub food, the staff is really friendly, and food is good. I'm giving them four stars only because the service is slow. read more

This is our go to place to eat and drink while motorcycle riding in Northern California. With four motels within walking distance to the brewery, it makes it easy to park your bike at the motel after a long day of riding and drink to your hearts content without having worry about getting back on your bike to ride back to the motel. The selection of craft beers is amazing and all are delicious(in my humble opinion) and the food is not only delicious, they don't skimp on the portions. Get there early if you can because after about 6pm expect a lengthy wait..... but it'll be worth it!!!! read more

DELICOUS FOOD, very nice waitress, I went on X-mas eve and the waitress was literally the sweetest. I wish there cup of chili was a little bigger but its a cup. I recommend eating in not taking out. The one time i did take out for a cup of clam chowder it took a long time and too many green onions. Eel River Brewing was a fun stop on our Eureka beercation! The restaurant was on a wait when we arrived so we grabbed a couple seats at the bar and ordered two pints. We must have made it in time for happy hour or something because their pints were cheep! We sat out on the patio which is HUGE! They have a horseshoe pit and a ton of tables. My favorite part were the two kitties that were running around outside! We ordered their tasting flight and for dinner I ordered the chicken carbonara because I was craving pasta! The tasting flight was impressive! I love how it fits with their vibe! I did not love the pasta... I wouldn't recommend anyone ordering it. It was $20 and I couldn't tell what was wrong with it but it was not good. My husband loved his pulled pork sandwich, so I recommend ordering that! All in all, Eel River Brewing had good beer, a great patio and great service! I would just recommend sticking with their sandwiches and not their entrees. read more

Stopped in for brews after friends recommended the beers - loved the blonde and the amber (lots of IPAs available, but not what we seek out). Beers had great taste! Service was fantastic - - once they realized we were sitting there (some mix-up between host who seated us, and staff). Hint- Management needs to cross-train staff to take care of everyone, right away, wherever they're sitting!! I was 30 seconds from walking out ... Wow I thought it couldn't get any worse and yet they surprise me! Was appalled to hear employees blatantly gossiping about other employees personal lives while I'm trying to enjoy a beer. No one wants to hear about your drama while we're trying to eat! Also no one cares that your last table didn't tip, maybe it's an indicator of the quality of service you provided!! We felt welcomed, well taken care of, and the staff definitely worked as a team to provide excellent service. We stayed in Eureka where everything apparently closes by 8 pm, so don't miss this stop. This place was a little out of the way for me, but it was definitely worth the drive! Starting with an appetizer, I had the calamari. I love good calamari and this was definitely one of the top ten for me. It was a little different from the norm, which was great. The menu says that they are "Cajun-fried" and it seems to be working for them. They were perfectly crispy and flavorful. The spices added weren't overpowering, which I was a tad worried about. I was truly torn on my entree between the stout-smoked pork ribs and the stout-smoked tri-tip. Fortunately, they have a combo platter and I was able to try both! I will say that the ribs were a bit skimpy and overcooked, but they were still quite flavorful. On the other hand the tri-tip was amazing. It was wonderfully soft, near melt-in-your-mouth status and their "stout-smoked" process they follow made me want to throw out everything I know about bbq-ing and figure out how they do it. On to their organic beers. They're pretty proud of the fact that they were the first fully certified organic brewery in the United States, and with over 300 awards (proudly displayed all over the walls of their brewery) why wouldn't they be? Usually when I try a sampler of a craft brewery's beers, I will pick out one or two that I like, and the rest will remain largely untouched after I taste them. This was not so at Eel River. I believe that there was only one of the samplers that I didn't enjoy. The atmosphere is typical of most craft breweries I've been to with that warm, inviting, lodge-style feel to them. It was a little loud when it got busy, but not the bad type of noisy. It was simply the sound of a busy restaurant with its patrons thoroughly enjoying themselves. As I wrap up this review, I will say that I wished there was a bit more room between the tables. I understand that they had limited floor space and seeing how busy they got, I know why they pack as many tables in as possible. Unfortunately, I did get elbowed multiple times as people would try to squeeze between tables, but since I was appeased with great food and fantastic drinks, I really wasn't all that bothered by it. read more

My wife and I are big fans of brew pubs. this one is the best in the county of Humboldt in my opinion. The food is always great, and the specials intrique even the pickiest of pallets. The service...so much better then any of the other local brew pubs... The beer is really, really good, one of the best IPA's around. The only things wrong with this place is that it is sometimes too crowded and it is too far!
