She quoted me an estimate that was way over my budget. When I confessed that it was too much she was able to lower the Quote quite a bit by changing some things on the cake. When I arrived the cake was ready to go. The cake turned out about 75% of the picture I sent her. The cake itself tasted excellent! My husband and guest were very impressed. I'm probably going to get smack from the locals for rating it 2 stars, but I really needed a last minute birthday cake and thought this place was like any other bakery like French's or Zov's. I wasn't familiar with the area so I searched for a bakery on Yelp and this place popped up with rave reviews. When I pulled up, the place said "El Toro Bakery" instead and it looked empty inside except for a bunch of shelving racks with empty sheet pans. No writing or anything on the windows or doors. Did this place go out of business? Since I was in a hurry, I went inside just to make sure, and saw only a case of baked breads and a commercial fridge with drinks and 2 custom made cakes. The rest of the store was just filled with wheeled shelving racks. So I guess they sell baked breads and make cakes by the order. I just wish they indicated that somewhere. read more

It's getting to be where now I'm starting to prefer mexican bakeries over asian ones. The sugar tastes different (but that's a good thing) and the types of sweets have been growing on me... its crazy how much I love it now. Problem here is though, there are no signs or little cards that tell you what each pastry is, so venturing and trying new things is difficult since you're not sure what anything contains or what they are trying to be. Some I could tell where puffs, some had cream, but ultimately it was a guessing game. But I have tried the buttery sugar bread, and that is always hard to go wrong with. 9 out of 10 times, delicious. I've gotten some of the cookies, also delicious, and this time I tried the equivalent of "fruit" rolls that were not bad. A smalllllll Mexican bakery that's out of the way, but worth a stop if you're still hungry after Sizzler, or if you just have a mexican food craving, because then you can go Taco's Ensenada next door and then to Efren's to finish off the meal. read more

I ordered 2 smash cakes here - one for my daughter's one year photos and another for her party. I found this place online and chose it for it's Yelp reviews. This bakery was very easy to work with. With about a week's notice, they were able to complete two gorgeous cakes with simple direction over the phone. The theme for the party was ballerina so one cake had pastel pink ribbons iced all over and another with ballet slippers. Each cake is about $30, which seems pretty standard for a 4 in cake around here. They were each white cakes with buttercream frosting and were absolutely delicious! I usually buy pastries here like brownie and eclair every week as this place is close to my work. Not only because their pastries are delicious but also value for money. The custard in the eclair is so rich amd the brownie is so moist and tasty. Just today, I called them this morning to order a chocolate cake for valentines and ask them the options for icing and filling. Im not a fan of fudgy sweet icing so I chose the whip cream icing. I was looking for a lemon wedding cake and this place looked good to try. Unfortunately , they don't do tasting and didn't have any lemon things to try so we ordered a small 1 tier cake for $25. Picked it up today, excited to try the cake with the lemon filling we ordered. We cut open the cake when we get home and it was a CANNED PEACH FILLING. Needless to say I was extremely disappointed. I call them and they were like 'oh ya we don't have anything lemon right now so we did peach'. Didn't tell us when we picked up, didn't call us to tell us that they didn't have lemon like they should've done. Needless to say I requested a reimbursement immediately and just the fact of them not saying anything in the first place, making it anyway and trying to pull it off as a lemon cake is extremely disappointing. So based on all the raving reviews decided to check them out and get some information about getting a wedding cake for our upcoming nuptials. First this place is called El Toro Bakery not Efron on their sign outside.... So we walk in and ask if they are Efren Bakery the dweeb Bret behind the counter says yes. Wo looked ordinary not glammed up nothing so he probably decided to judge by appearance.... Totally not friendly I had to ask him to give us some info regarding getting a wedding cake done. So he waves to the books and says we can look at some pictures... Then I ask him what kind of cakes do they offer and what fillings etc... So the dweeb rattles off some combinations I asked him if he had a brochure of the varieties available ... He says no I told him I cannot remember all the stuff he just talked about... He says just tell what you want and we can make something within reason WTHeck !!! ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE !! Oh and their bakery looks mediocre and needs a lift and spruce up. So here is the reception we get to want to get a wedding cake baked for our most memorable day.... this is the attitude for info can you imagine what kind of product they deliver and with what customer service... Thank God for the NEW OWNERS! This place was good at one point and then it was sold to a husband and wife who didn't care about selling stale old breads and pastries! They would leave the doors wide open and it was hotter than hell in there. The husband was this little creepy dude. Anyway, I was thinking all the good Mexican sweet breads were no more! I noticed clean windows and a customer coming out and said there were now New Owners! They were actually Mexicans too!! Awesome, so went in and noticed the cleaner air, nice new glass displays which are cooled. You can feel the coldness when you touch the display. Anyway, grabbed like 6 or 7 assorted sweet breads. The prices are very reasonable to the low side, another plus!! So seriously and finally FRESH sweet breads! We all enjoyed them all with some nice cold non fat milk at home!! Oh my goodness! This PANADERÍA has the best PAN DULCE in Orange County! The owners are very nice and have great pastries, breads, cakes and cookies. I often place really big orders for my Spanish classes for traditional holiday foods (PAN DE MUERTO & ROSCA de REYES) and even PAN DULCE (conchas, puerquitos & orejas) when we do a unit about visiting a bakery.
