This is a great place that's tucked away in a corner of an outdated shopping strip mall in Lake Forest. I came here a few months back to buy a Rosca for El Dia De Los Reyes and I even called the bakery to make sure that they were selling them that day. I went on Yelp to search for a place that sold Rosca's and I came across this bakery which aren't very common in South Orange County. They had more than enough Rosca's stacked up and ready to go for everyone purchasing them on El Dia De Los Reyes. The lady at the front register was friendly and spoke both English and Spanish to the lady she was helping in front of me. The bakery is small and you can tell that it's family-owned establishment. I thought it was even better to shop here and support small businesses like this one instead of going to big chain markets like Northgate for your Rosca. The Rosca was delicious and fresh! I also got some Mexican wedding cookies here, but they weren't the best I've had. The interior of the bakery was clean, simple, and welcoming. They do take debit and credit cards here. This place is mostly known for it's cakes and pastries that they sell. I also saw that they had bottled Coca Cola, so if you like bottled Coca Cola like I do then stop by here. I recommend stopping by to get your Mexican sweet pastries and coffee in the morning. I think it's the most authentic place you'll find in South Orange County. read more

This is the Best Cake shop in Orange County! We have been getting our cakes here for many years. They make great tasting out of the ordinary cakes. I don't think there is another bakery quite like this one. The black magic (chocolate) and tres leches cake is to die for. You can tell they spend a lot of time and care into each cake. They do incredible work here. Its like the Ace of Cakes of the west coast. If you need a cake for a special event... wedding, birthday, quinceanera, etc, this is the place to go. Ordered a bday cake at effrens. It was an 8 inch tres leches cake. It tasted fabulous. So moist and perfectly done. The icing and cream was not too sweet and was really good. Having just moved to the area I'm exploring where to get the best and most authentic food. In Irvine this was in easy. In lake forest/Laguna Hills/Laguna Woods, not easy at all. It takes work. So when I want to kill some time will walk around a mini mall just to see what I can find. Today I discovered Efren's Bakery. So glad I did. I've seen more product in other bakeries but the selection was enough for me and what it told me whatever we have. We do well. Today I bought a cream filled and a guava filled large empanadas. (Turnovers if u will). Flaky, tender pastry with Rich full flavored fillings. I was surprised to see challah break so the owner gave me a free sample of HALF A LOAF! Will I have fun with that!! French toast, bread puddings. And nice turkey and cranberry sandwiches. Efren's is tucked away in the back corner of a non-glamorous strip mall. Look for it. It's worth it. read more

If I could give no stars, I would. I've ordered a few times from this bakery, and every time I get a cake there, something is wrong. This last time, I ordered a cake for my daughter's birthday. I've included a picture of what I wanted, and what I got. This was an $80 10" round cake by the way. I was up charged for fondant, which i was ok to pay for, but only if I had gotten fondant. As you can see, I got nothing close to it! I called the owner/manager and she assured me she'd refund me the fondant fees since I didn't get what I ordered. I also told her it looked nothing like I ordered, and she said, "Yah I know. I forgot." Really?!!! Then you should have remade the cake or given me a refund when we picked it up! I called back 3 times to get a refund back to my card, nothing! I was apprehensive ordering my cake here since I hadn't gotten what I completely wanted on the past, should have listened to my gut. I will NEVER order here again. Instead, I'll go to Aliso Bakery, which this bakery started out as, since they give great service and actually give you what you order. This place was an awesome find. I stopped in after work to see if they did wedding cakes. And, they do! I had been getting crazy pricing from various wedding cake places. Some over a thousand dollars for a cake that will feed 60 people. I could see the value in some of their creations or artwork but, all i needed was a nice looking and great tasting cake. We got way more than that. The cake was beautiful and it was by far the best tasting wedding cake i have ever had. We had the baker make what was called a "naked cake" with butter cream frosting and yellow cake. It was so good that many of the guests formed a line for a second slice of cake. I heard more than a few times "that was the best wedding cake". These guys delivered for under 250 bucks for 60 person cake. If you do not like a ton of frosting or a little cake with your frosting google "naked cake" and you'll see for yourself. I simply texted her a photo of a cake and told her any close would be acceptable and she knocked it out of the park. This is not the fancy place for cake testing and wine drinking. This bakery is located behind the Sizzler on El Toro in a no name strip mall off of Raymond. It was stuffy inside but the place smelled of fresh baked goods and I was instantly salivating and wanting everything in sight. The sweet breads have their own section to the right as you walk in and there are other pastries as well near the cashier's counter. I had many guests ask me for a second slice...it was so good! Now I didn't get a chance to try the cupcakes because they were gone before I knew it. The kids absolutely loved them!!! I ordered chocolate, vanilla and strawberry cupcakes with blue buttercream frosting and I topped them with my own Twinkie minions and they looked so adorable. Efran's bakery is a going venture, I really enjoy the coffee and lemon cake or coffee cake and the pastries are amazing and the cookies are are definitely not shadowed by the pastries lot of these items I can honestly say I haven't tried because I am stuck on a couple things that I get every time. You can tell from just looking at pastry or cookies that he has an eye on detail. This is the BEST little bakery! Walked in half an hour before closing and the man helping us was so outrageously friendly and kind. He was eager to explain all the baked goods to me and even let me sample a guava empanada. DELICIOUS! It was light and moist, but also flakey and crisp along the edges. She quoted me an estimate that was way over my budget. When I confessed that it was too much she was able to lower the Quote quite a bit by changing some things on the cake. When I arrived the cake was ready to go. The cake turned out about 75% of the picture I sent her. The cake itself tasted excellent! My husband and guest were very impressed.
