Recently, we decided to give the place another chance, and this visit completely changed our impression. We ordered the chicken avocado wrap, a skillet, and a couple of salads. The chicken avocado wrap was flavorful and came with roasted potatoes and a small side salad, making it a well-balanced meal. I also tried my wife's skillet, which was well seasoned and full of flavor. Our parents enjoyed their salads as well, so everyone left happy. Second time coming here and didn't disappoint. Service was really good and quick, got the aztec omelet and it was made really good with the chorizo cooked well gave it a good taste. I've been coming here since high school so I may have some nostalgia visiting. It's my personal favorite Egg Harbor location. I love the atmosphere and it's a bit cozier than some other ones I have been too. Although it is a little more expensive in terms of the quantity/size of the dish, the food is consistently delicious. On a Sunday morning , the place was busy. We were fortunate to be seated right away. Service was very attentive . I had the Farmer's Market Benedict. It was a unique combination of mushroom, spinach, artichoke hearts and tomatoes. I had the hollandaise sauce on the side and it was very good. We had a great experience here today. The restaurant is large with lots of seating and while it was busy upon arrival, we were seated quickly. We were also able to order our coffees at the drink bar while we waited - a bonus! Our server was awesome and very attentive. It was easy to know what was gluten free with the dedicated menu and TONS of choices. The food was all fantastic but I've got to call out the gluten free cinnamon roll and the gluten free bread on my sandwich - absolutely spectacular. The only downside to this place that I saw was the price. Both sandwiches were $16, which seemed steep, but maybe that's normal now. Hard to tell. This restaurant in downtown Arlington Heights is always busy. The servers and manager were very friendly and went out of their way to make sure that we had an enjoyable experience. Since it's October I had to try their seasonal menu. I had the pumpkin pancakes. The house-made sugared pecans were baked into the batter. I really enjoyed the way the pumpkin flavor mixed with the candied pecans. I made it into a combo which added two scrambled eggs and two sausage links to the plate. I also tried the pumpkin spice chai tea latte. This is a very sweet drink, but tasted wonderful. I went with a friend and we sat and chatted for a while after our meal without any rush. I love Egg Harbor and have been a regular for many years. I adore the staff and have always been a fan. A new menu hit this month with several price increases. They also added a burger. "Mikes" Burger to be exact. Well whoever Mike is he should be embraced. It was not good. The patty was dry and chewy. I'm guessing pre-cooked, frozen then microwaved. Loved this place before, Ordered grilled cheese with sharp cheddar & avocado on whole wheat.  None of the other ingredients or sides listed on internet.  We said no salad or nasty baked potatoes cubes.  I had water. She said no such sandwich. I showed on phone.  She insisted must be Egg House, scrolled up no Arlington. Doesn't matter, just add 2 ingredients. It came with no avocado & 2 squares unmelted American & Jack (don't like either) on bread burnt black.  She had to get manager. Waiter's fault,  manager read order as she wrote: American, Jack on whole wheat. (no avocado). Her excuse "can't order if not on menu". He searched phone, not our menu. I scrolled up yes it is. Doesn't matter just make with 2 items.  Was brought avocado slices to add to wrong one!! He came back many times checking phone.  It's old.  No it says current.  Wrong location.  Scrolled up says Arlington.  He said "AHA! here it says seasonal" .  No it says "seasonal items also available".  He left avocado for me to add, I said no melt it with cheese.   Second came burnt black, one square plain cheddar, avocado piled together.  He kept checking phone, missing point that it didn't matter just put 2 ingredients together.   Both meals still came with salad & cubed baked potatoes. "Online Sandwich" Grilled Cheese and Egg. A sharp aged Wisconsin Cheddar, Monterey Jack and mild Cheddar cheeses on grilled sourdough with avocado, house-made bacon jam, tomato and an over-hard egg. A lovely brunch place that tends to be busy on the weekend. I love the food though, and they have a number of twists on your classic brunch favorites. They had a few drink specials for the season including a frozen banana hot chocolate and a peppermint hot chocolate. I had their farmer's market Benedict, which had spinach, mushroom, tomato, artichoke instead of the Canadian Bacon and topped with a basil hollandaise. Service was fast and friendly, they were very accommodating with us ordering an extra dish. It's a solid brunch spot you can enjoy with family or friends. This is a very standard good brunch spot. I will say, they are very clean! The place was spotless, tables are cleaned between guests and they take your temperature upon arrival. I had the pancake griddle combo, the pancakes (original) are the star of the show. They are soo fluffy and delicious. The bacon is decent and the eggs were standard, but you should try the pancakes! My sister had the breakfast potatoes (those were good) and pumpkin pancakes. She got tired of the pumpkin flavor but if you're a huge pumpkin fan you may love that. The coffee is not my favorite, very earthy but it wasn't horrible either. Overall, a good quick brunch spot. Nothing to rave about but I'm sure it would be consistent. read more

We arrived late on a Friday and it set the tone for the whole trip. They don't rush you at all. I loved the cool, funky atmosphere. It has a parking lot. It was Friday and they pride themselves on their albacore tuna. A delicious, stuffed tuna melt with a smear of avocado spread. I got a combo with soup, and what a soup. A generous crock of tomato bisque with homemade buttery, cheese croutons. It came with a side salad and a poppy seed dressing. This would be great in a cole slaw. Thirst quenching fresh brewed iced tea with raw sugar. I was tempted to stay an extra day for breakfast. Super waitress Sophia made it a perfect experience. Went on a busy Mother's Day today and we used the waitlist (great idea). Even though they were busy the service was excellent, friendly and welcoming and fast. Tried the French toast with berries combo with eggs and turkey bacon. It did not disappoint! Wasn't expecting it but for Mother's Day they brought me a mini plastic flower and candy which was a nice touch. Recommend this restaurant highly and they never disappoint! read more

My mother might get mad at me for this statement, but here goes: I am not sure why everyone LOVES Egg Harbor. I have been to the locations in Geneva, Elmhurst and Arlington Heights... and they are all the same. By "the same", I mean average in every category a breakfast place can be reviewed in. I have never been wowed by my food choices. It has always been just fine. The coffee is a little weak, so their orange juice is a better option. Their egg dishes are boring, so their sweet items are, by comparison, excellent. The service is lazy. The decor is a very particular country kitchen explosion, which only appeals to a portion of their customer base. I can't figure it out. I will keep coming here on Saturdays and Sundays with out-of-town guests, but I will always connect the decision to come to going to my local home town pancake house late on weekend nights as a teenage because it was the only place open-- you just do it. This is a location for lazy, empty calories that you may have to wait several minutes to ingest because everyone else thinks it is such a great idea. read more

THE LOCATION: Anyone else confused about the 2 Arlington Heights addresses for this place? I looked on the restaurant website and only saw this location (not sure if the other one "200 Arlington Pl" actually exists). THE WAIT: I arrived just after 10am on Saturday and the wait was less than 5 minutes for a table. There's a nice waiting area in the front with chairs and decor to check out. BEVERAGE: I thought it was pretty cool (and efficient) that you are first greeted at the table by the juice guy! He's double fisting an orange juice carafe and a strawberry orange juice carafe. I got the strawberry orange juice and thought it was all right. The coffee is good and they leave a small carafe at the table for self refills. BREAKFAST: 1. Eggs Benedict - Not bad. The sauce was different from what I've had before (tasted good but it didn't sing to me) and the eggs were done just right. 2. Pumpkin Pancakes - There were also big pieces of pecans in the pancakes. It was good but nothing special. PARKING: The parking lot was packed, but luckily a car pulled out as we rounded the corner. Average food, average price, and average service...nothing spectacular. If I had a choice between this and IHOP, I'd go over to IHOP. read more

The biggest drawbacks here are really the noise and crowded seating. Otherwise the food here is quite good, although maybe a little pricey. However, the menu has items you won't find anywhere else nearby which makes this restaurant definitely worth a visit. The coffee they serve here is Intelligensia, which I like more than Allegro or Anodyne but probably just a little less than Alterra. It is pretty hard to find this coffee unless you go to downtown coffee houses or buy coffee from Whole Foods. It's nice to get fresh cream with coffee which results in a much nicer texture than using palm oil based creamers. The caprese fritatta is nice and light with a very nice combination of tomato, cheese, and raw basil. It's a great way to eat healthy and surprisingly tasty. The potatoes on the side are delicious with the buttered english muffin. I did not like the lobster meat version as much however, although the asparagus part of it was great. Mostly the hollandaise sauce flavor was not to my liking. The winter bliss swedish pancakes were great, almost like crepes. The interaction between the bananas (not excessively heated and mushy like most other places), caramel, and candied pecans were great. Very well executed dish. Perhaps the biggest surprise for me was the door county chicken salad. If eating healthy tastes this good, I wouldn't mind eating healthy every day. The mix of apples, mandarin oranges, candied pecans, and dried cranberries with an amazing poppyseed dressing just made this dish wonderful. In fact, if I had nothing but lettuce and the dressing I probably would've been very happy with the dish already. If this place was easier to park at and easier to find a seat, I'd probably visit more often since the food here is creative and generally executed well. read more
