Finding a good breakfast restaurant for me has been a necessity for me as I travel for a living and have been all over the country and indeed, all over the world. This little cafe was a marvelous find and I highly recommend it. Prices are good relative to food quality. The menu is fantastic. The service was spot on and the venue is really nice. Stopped in for brunch on a Saturday. Was busy but got a table for 2 in 5 minutes like they estimated. Door county melt was delicious. No wonder it's their most popular dish. Chicken salad, dried cranberries, toasted pecans crisp diced apples, cheese on multigrain toast. Side potatoes and salad. Lot of food for only $11! My partner and I met his father here often when we visited the Chicago area. They have an excellent selection of classics AND gluten-free options, and the food never disappoints us. I generally expect some confusion when I go to a super-popular brunch location, but this place operated like a well-oiled machine. After a long night shift I was really in the mood for some good home cooked breakfast food. Back in my hometown in Michigan there is this place that serves natural and organic everything so my natural instinct is to find a place similar to that since I'm new to the Illinois area. This place popped up and it seemed very homey and the menu looked very delicious no matter what you looked at. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and was sat immediately and was instantly brought water and told the specials. My server was polite in letting me take my time at the menu since this was my first time here. I ordered the house coffee and was enjoying every sip and I decided on there scrambler and it was extremely good! Their jam and English muffins was superb and the avocado on the scrambler was fresh and very delicious. I will be coming back here again for sure! read more

I arrived in the restaurant and was immediately greeted by a hostess and seated. My waitress came over and told me the special of the day and took my beverage order and asked if I had any questions. She then gave me a few minutes to look over the menu. Not even 2 minutes later she was back with my beverage and took my order. Food arrived about 7-10 minutes later. It was ok, but nothing to write home about. The prices are a little higher, but that could be because the eggs are supposedly cage free. I wouldn't necessarily go back because in my option the food was just ok. In terms of cleanliness, the restaurant was excellent. The only thing stopping a 5 is the coffee, it's terrible. They, like most places, don't offer any coffee variety. It was once on the menu but they stopped offering. After speaking with the manager I'm about being cheated on my order , he reimbursed $4, what a joke. The entire order was wrong. I ordered French toad they have pancakes; I ordered a full order of Swedish pancakes and received one cut into three pieces. My recommendation is don't spend your money at this place, it's a waste. I have been eating at one or another Egg Harbor for about 25 years. During that time I have become addicted to their chicken salad. Egg Harbor is easily in my top 5 places for lunch. Now, you may ask, is all this information really necessary? I'll make my point. I ordered what I usually order, so imagine my surprise when I tasted tuna salad. People say a lot of things taste like chicken, but in all my years I have NEVER heard anyone say, " This tuna fish tastes like chicken." Our server quickly apologized and removed the tuna. Then she came back and told me that WAS the chicken salad and did I want to order something else because if she brought another plate that was from the same batch, it would taste like tuna. My choice stands. The next plate was indeed chicken salad ~ no fishy taste, at all. Not being from Elmhurst I found this location a bit of a challenge, especially since there was a detour on York Road and I had no idea where I was headed. Leaving the parking lot, York Road is a one way street heading north. However, the cashier was kind enough to provide a route that would get me to southbound York. So, it was okay, at least they didn't call me Louis. read more

On my last day in Chi-town this past July, I decide to skip the family reunion prayer bkfast (bcuz, really..who wouldn't want to skip a sermon over bisquiks n bacon) and check out this place before hitting the airport.This place is great... Rooster memorabilia all over the place. great decor. yep i get it. eggs galore from all the roosters eFFin the hens obviously. Sooo wut kind of eggs i want? hmm I'm not a runny egg yolk fan. No sunny side up, no over easy, etc...for me. I want my eggs set...not running all over a plate. Rarely will i try..i did this time. So i figure, throw caution to the wind. Be a lil risky w/my digestive system before boarding a 3 1/2 hr flight home and order eggs benedict for the first in my life. I went w/the Farmer's Market Benedict- spinach, mushrooms,tomato n artichokes over muffins w/basil hollandaise. DAMN good dish. no time for pic...just dug right in.dealt with yolk going where it wasn't supposed to go and the harvest potatoes were tasty as well. Crispy english muffin held up under the weight of the toppings and was very good. Eggs running wild and sauce with toppings all hit the spot. Gotta love a place that dedicates a whole part of their menu to ME! What, didn't see it? "Aimee's Gourmet Griddle" Pancakes and French Toast. How'd they know carbs are my weakness? Ok, so I don't know who this Aimee is, but I do find it cute even when my visits are early morning and I haven't had my java yet. Egg Harbor is a cute place. Cute in a country farmhouse decor kind of way. Neat and Tidy and very friendly staff. EHC is super family friendly, yet I do see a lot of business folks having their breakfast here as well. The Breakfast menu has a lot of nice choices other than the Carbs. Eggs, Omelets, Crepes, Skillets. My best friend and I love breakfast and we love places where we can linger a bit to chat. Our waitress seemed to sense that and kept telling us not to rush, enjoy the table and kept refills on coffee coming. The food is good, served timely and hot. My eggs benedict was pretty standard but the Harbor Potatoes were a nice twist on the usual hasbrowns. Small oven fried pieces of potato that had a bit of crisp on the outside, but fluffy on the inside. The children's meal I ordered for the Bubs was pretty big. Considering the menu said "mini pancakes", i was expecting silver dollar pancakes, but these looked like regular pancakes to me. Orange juice is freshly squeezed. Coffee is piping hot and strong. I also don't know if its just seasonal, but my son got to choose a free Halloween themed rubber ducky. So my name is in the menu and my son gets to choose a rubber ducky (one of his favorite kind of toys). Sounds like this places was tailored just for me! read more

So, my boo lives in the SUBURBS. WTF right? She says that this place is usually hopping but we got right in with no wait. It's a huge place in the suburbs in a strip mall behind a freaking walgreens so you know I was rolling my eyes by the time I was parking. I talk so much shit about the suburbs and had just sassed the suburbs as having "no culinary interest for me". Quick cut to me chowing down on a down home breakfast meal. Biscuits and gravy with eggs. Also Bacon! They were really decent. The service was a bit spotty as we had 3 different servers so things tend to fall between the cracks. My boo had some kinda omelet which she was very happy with and they made small modifications with no protests. Duck...duck...rooster!! Roosters are everywhere in this place...like EVERYWHERE. I have been to another Egg Harbor location, but it was a while ago. I had forgotten how much they have on their menu! Breakfast alone consists of pancakes, crepes, skillets, omelettes, benedicts, and more! So many things to try... We ended up going with the Bavarian Benedict. Sooo yummy. Little baby potato pancakes topped with eggs, cheese, and sour cream. Plus it comes with bread and their berry preserves. I left stuffed and satisfied. The eggs were a little over done...but still edible. And the flavored coffee was REALLY good. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful as well. A good place to come for breakfast/brunch if you are in the area. Luckily they have a parking lot too (it gets full and it is only for 3 hours), so if you are lucky you don't need to find a spot on the street! read more

Egg Harbor is the kind of place I want to like more than I do. It's centrally located, and the food is okay, but I just don't love it. The little jar glasses put me off for some reason, and I find the chairs uncomfortable. Phyllis, however, is the nicest person I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. And when I've used Egg Harbor to cater meetings, she is personable, pleasant and easy to work with. But the prices, both in catering and on their regular meals at the restaurant seem a bit higher than I'm comfortable with. All the egg dishes taste dry to me, and the home fries sometimes come out overcooked. I would not say I won't return here, but when the breakfast choice is mine to make, I will probably make it elsewhere. Sorry guys. I prefer this Egg Harbor over the one in Yorktown. There are so many good dishes, and I love all their soups. Breakfast or lunch is really good, they have so many healthy selections on the menu. I really like to order their soup and half sandwich selections... perfect portions. Parking can be a pain at times because of the busy area and limited spots outside this popular restaurant. i recently came to eat here & my visit was not what i was expecting. the first server we had was very nice & im not sure if she had to go on her break but we got a new server, nicole. the whole time we were there she only came to our table twice. once was to ask if we were ready to order & we order & she never came back & our first server took our order. the second time she came she just gave us the check & that was it. i don't think i'll be coming here again with how my family & i were treated. i would understand if they were busy but she would check in other tables except ours. she would also look at our table but not come. my mom still left her a tip but she did not deserve it. read more

This is my go to place. I love egg harbor and have tired a lot on the menu and have not been let down. It seems to get really packed for breakfast during the weekend so I try to go during the weekday. The parking is a bit of a bummer since you have to continue to drive around down town elm guest to find a parking. This time around a tried a chicken club with avocado it came with side salad and diced potatoes. It was a quick lunch item something simple yet delicious. This is my favorite breakfast place when I can't go to Greek town for breakfast. I love their country decor. It makes me feel like I'm eating on a farm. The menu is extensive. I usually get the frittatas, omelets, or skillets. I always get their coffee. The coffee mugs are so cute! The restaurant is very busy on Sundays after mass, so make sure you go there really early or towards the close of business. If you go during the rush hour, be prepared to wait. It's worth it though. I've been to many breakfast joints, and I have to say that this place is one of the best out there in the suburbs! read more

Based on our experience at a different Egg Harbor, I suspect what happened to us at the Elmhurst location isn't typical, but with so many other good restaurants in the area, I don't think this particular Egg Harbor will not see us again. While the place was crowded when we arrived, we had to wait only about 10 or 15 minutes before being seated. Everyone we encountered was friendly and cheerful. After we were seated, our server came to the table and took our drink order. It was the last time we spoke with him. When we sat down, the people seated at the two tables nearest to us were all close to being finished with their meals. They left and were replaced by other guests. Our server greeted those folks, took their drink orders, and then took their food orders, all while we sat, talked and waited to place our order. Just as I was about to get up and go wandering in search of our server, one of the young ladies who had greeted us at the front of the restaurant came to our table, notebook in hand, said our server had been so busy he hadn't been able to get to us, and said she'd take our order. We placed our order and then waited for our food. As we waited, our server returned to the area several times to work with the other tables, but never made eye contact with us or approached our table. You know, everyone makes mistakes. And while I believe this is the first time I've ever been forgotten by a server, if the guy had come to the table, said, "I'm sorry - I goofed and completely forgot about you," and then continued on with taking care of us, everything would have been fine. Heck, if he'd looked a bit sheepish or embarrassed while apologizing, he probably would have gotten a 25% tip instead of my normal 20%. But he ignored us as we waited for our food. And continued to ignore us as we continued to wait for our food. About the time the wait reached the point where we were going to ask him to check on our food, he kind of disappeared from the area. I turned 60 a few weeks ago, and right about then my gut began telling me that I might be having my 61st birthday before our food arrived. So we left. As we walked through the front of the restaurant, we paused to tell the folks at the counter the table was available. The young lady who had taken our order apologized and said she'd go back and check on our order right away. She was nice, polite, and seemed concerned... but we figured either our order hadn't been placed correctly and wasn't yet cooked, or it had been cooked and then sitting off to the side while we waited and waited. In either case, we weren't in the mood to wait another 20 minutes while hot, fresh food was prepared. The upside of this is that we ended up eating at The Kitchen Eatery at St. Charles and Route 83. It was a different experience than eating at Egg Harbor, but their breakfast steak bowl was very good, and their Brie-L-T sandwich with a side of macaroni and cheese will have us returning real soon. Will we return to Egg Harbor? Sure - we've had many a good meal at the Hinsdale and Downers Grove Egg Harbor locations. We'll just be visiting George's on York or The Kitchen Eatery when we're looking for a good breakfast or lunch near Elmhurst. Here's a question - if the server had walked away and forgotten you, come back and sincerely apologized (and looked a bit sheepish while doing so), and then provided you with the good service you expect from a place like Egg Harbor, would your tip go up, stay the same, or go down? read more

Ahh, the perfectness of an egg! Have you ever thought about the many things you can do with an egg? Cook it up millions of ways, tighten your skin in a mask, even use it as a teenage attack weapon! Certainly Egg Harbor is one of my favorite destinations for their creative uses of the egg and its many breakfast companions. Working right down the street from here, I tend to order breakfast quite often from them. I love their Popeye Crepes, which incorporate spinach and some basically unhealthy stuff in it; but I also get my eggs prepared many other ways as well. And my husband loves their sinfully rich and large skillet breakfasts. They also serve lunch here, and close at 2pm. The staff here is so nice and accommodating; you can bet that you'll get a good standard breakfast here! read more

I was in search of pancakes and other breakfast food. This place hit the spot. Normally when I'm craving breakfast food, I saunter over to the nearest pancake house family restaurant. But Egg Harbor Cafe is better and a relaxing alternative with friendly service. Over the years I've been to four Egg Harbor locations: Downers Grove, Naperville, Wheaton and Elmhurst. Downers Grove, Wheaton and Elmhurst are close to the Metra train stations. Naperville is close to the riverwalk. At the Elmhurst location I ordered a make-your-own breakfast skillet with olives, avocado and bacon. Fresh and delicious. Paired with their signature Strawberry Orange juice it was a non-greasy breakfast. Afterwards, I walked around downtown Elmhurst where I checked a video game trading store, Elmhurst College's campus and a local art fair. Perfect mix on good food and walking. I believe the best french toast I have ever consumed came from this location. It was called the Italian Winter french toast, and came with raisins, walnuts, mascarpone, powdered sugar, and of course syrup. The bacon is thick-sliced and very flavorful. When they bring you coffee, they give you the whole pot, and also a pitcher of water on the table. This is very nice because you don't have to wait around and thirst until the waitstaff returns. Our waitress also gave us to-go cups so we could bring more coffee with us when we left. She was very polite and did her job well. read more

Gave this a try today for a late breakfast and absolutely loved it. I had a "Skinny Rosti" which was very tasty. My wife loved her Caprese Frittata too. What really sealed the deal was the service. Our server was super-friendly and not only ensured we got prompt refills on our pops, but left us a carafe to refill at our own pace. Fantastic! The prices are reasonable, and the seating isn't too cramped. I really have nothing bad to say about Egg Harbor Cafe. Definitely going to try it again in the future. read more

Great breakfast, good service, nice atmosphere. So here's the deal, Egg Harbor has some awesome menu choices. My personal favorite are their swedish pancakes (smothered in maple syrup of course). My only qualm with Egg Harbor is that it can be hard for someone with...simple...tastes to find a simple item. For instance, you can't just order french toast....they offer a couple of varieties/options (not including regular french toast, as an example) such as Banana Bread French Toast etc.. Not sure if they are willing to accomodate if you are (like me) particularly picky in this sense, but the staff are nice, so I'm sure they will do what they can. I've been to this Egg Harbor location on a few occasions and have always found it to be a great place for breakfast or lunch. Staff is always friendly and service is prompt. I almost always order the Santa Fe Chicken roll ups - great tasting chicken salad. I like the slightly hot poppy seed dressing that comes with the salad too. Even though I suspect that the Chicken Wild Rice soup is mostly derived from a can, I love the taste and flavor - function over form here. read more

I tried the shrimp and grits for the first time. I paid an extra $4 for shrimp whinch made my total $18, I get my food and there are literally 5 shrimp on there, totally unacceptable. Quick and easy are the two words I would describe here. My husband and I came for a quick brunch before going to a party. There was no wait when we got there (being that it was 1230pm on a Saturday afternoon). Our waitress is friendly and nice. We've been to the Egg Harbor in Lombard before, so this isn't a completely new place for us. Both locations are good - it gets your brunch meal done! I ordered the San Antonio skillet. I felt the portions are a bit smaller than the one served in Lombard. Food was tasty, lots of potatoes on my skillet. My husband ordered the down home which was really tasty.
