A great choice for brunch! I met a friend from out of town here to catch up and have some brunch before she jetted off to her sister's wedding related-events. We met about 9am and were seated immediately. We ended up staying until 12:30! We never felt rushed, our coffee pot kept coming back freshly made, and our server was just the sweetest girl we'd ever met. She knew the menu and specials backwards and forwards, and offered great recommendations. To eat, I had the Dynamite Veggie White omelet and it was delicious. Tons of veggies and yummy salsa on top. It was so much food paired with the fruit cup and wheat english muffin. I didn't eat again until dinner. They have a huge menu selection of all breakfast foods from classic egg dishes to oatmeal to skillets and even crepes, and lunch foods as well. It's a shame I don't live closeby, as we picked Egg Harbor as a mid-way meeting point for the two of us. I did see that there were other locations, so hopefully one is near our place. LOVE this place. There's always a line on weekends, unless you get there at 7:00am, but it's totally worth it. The staff are pretty good about getting people in and seated as quickly as possible. There has been one time where my name was skipped over on the list and someone who arrived after me was seated before me. The hostesses immediately seated my party (a table was available) to make up for the oversight. I love their scramblers and their cinnamon roll French toast. I don't care if it's healthy or not- I want to eat it all the time. I really love that they offer to-go cups for their coffee (they're only going to toss what's in your cup anyway). And I love that they have many options for creamer (flavored FTW!). Every time I visit my sister I make her bring me here. I wish they'd open one in Ann Arbor. I'd eat there ALL THE TIME. read more

We go to Egg Harbor on a regular basis. We have been to three of their locations, but the Elmhurst location is the one we go to most often. We love the fact that they have a gluten free menu. The staff is always courteous and helpful. The food is always good, and our daughter loves getting her rubber ducky at the end. I would give them 5 stars if they improve the coffee. It's the only disappointing part of the meal. They always offer to give us some to go, which we always decline. Great place for families and a relaxed environment. read more

I tried the shrimp and grits for the first time. I paid an extra $4 for shrimp whinch made my total $18, I get my food and there are literally 5 shrimp on there, totally unacceptable. Ordered the corned beef hash Benedict. It was pretty good. The food came out really quick. It came with a side of potatoes which was nicely done. The side of fruit, on the other hand, was lacking. Someone basically opened a can of mini tangerines swimming in syrup preserves. It had a very homey, clean atmosphere bustling with families and friends. I would give it more stars except for the fact that our server had a somewhat off-putting attitude. Maybe he was just having a bad day. He was attentive enough given the busy morning but it seemed like he didn't want us there and wanted us out as fast as possible. We recently went to Egg Harbor Cafe for Mothers Day and had a table of 6. Luckily we got in and seated before the big rush came. Our server was very nice and told us all about the specials. He was very attentive and politely kept the meal moving along. I will say that everyone enjoyed there food. Nobody was blown away but everyone was satisfied. The Pot Roast Skillet was the best meal at the table. My only gripe was that our food came out kinda of individually, 3 plates, 2 plates, 1 plate. On top of that one of the meals was messed up. I will say that they fixed this quickly and without incident. The parking in the lot is easy and there is parking across the street in the garage. The decor has the standard breakfast/lunch café look. It seems they also have outside seating on the sidewalk which may or may not be good. All in all I will try them again... read more

As a cynical city slicker (aka NYC resident via Jamaica), I was quite cynical about visiting Egg Harbor Cafe on my way out of town. My cynicism stemmed from the appearance of the storefront the restaurant. Though clean and orderly it was especially nondescript and didn't particularly entice me to have my final IL meal. (I think it was the cream colored blinds bleh). Nevertheless, the great reviews on yelp and my travel buddy's hankering for eggs got me through the door. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! I felt as if I had just rolled out of bed, milked some cows gathered a few eggs and was waiting for Ma to finish churning up some fresh butta'. Exaggeration aside, the warm, sunny homestead feel of this restaurant with its walls decorated with countless photos and prints of hens, roosters and little baby chicks warmed this old city slicker's heart. I fell in love with the wonderful wooden chairs and benches and lattice work. I ignored the too high pitch of the the hostesses voice (I hadn't had my shot of caffeine as yet) and focused on the warm and non-intrusive but attentive service from my waitress who confessed that she was excited for me when I ordered the popular cinnamon french toast. I enjoyed the french toast although it was a little soggy in the middle. I was especially delighted, however, by the Geneva Rosti - who knew bacon and sour cream could taste so good - replete with English muffin, fruit and homemade preserves. Yum. To wrap this review up, breakfast was great, the service was welcoming but non-intrusive (the way I like it) and the ambiance inside really impressed me. Really great place, food is super consistent and tastes ultra fresh. Very interesting menu, which I feel is a little bit limited - I do understand that it is done most likely to remain consistent (play it safe and win regularly with patrons). Slightly overpriced for breakfast, but delicious nonetheless. I've been there when they are busy and slow, no matter, your food arrives very quick. Their jam is rock solid, you can purchase a jar to go, which I recommend (strawberry, blackberry, Blueberry mix). My friend arrived hungry on a plane from Connecticut. She MUST be Gluten Free. We went to a restaurant down the street that was featured on Gluten Free Elmhurst... and the only thing Gluten Free was the salad--NOT!... so we came here to Egg Harbor. More than pleasantly surprised! I had the cheese grits and poached eggs. Their bottled hot sauce was very spicy, went well with the grits. They substituted a fresh fruit cup for the usual biscuit. Very nice. She had a hamburger... and we did not have to remind them twice regarding the gluten free bun. (If they had mistakenly put it on a regular wheat bun, the whole thing would have had to go back to the kitchen and start all over again. So, they got it right. YES! The gluten free cinnamon bun was spectacular! Sweet, but not too sweet. The icing was flavorful and not cloying... and the bun itself was slightly dry and flaky, so it didn't have that stick to the roof of your mouth and teeth, and land in your stomach like lead, that a wheat flour cinnabon will. I can imagine driving all the way back here for this... and I live in Chicago! Service was great, attentive, and accommodating. read more

Love! I get something different every time and never leave hungry. One exception - I tried the San Antonio Skillet and it was much too spicy for me! I come for a late breakfast or brunch once a month or so on weekends, and they are always packed but I've never had slow service - they have the proper amount of staff working to keep turning over tables. Only complaint - it can get pretty loud in there since the tables are crammed pretty close together. read more

We have visited this location more times than I could count! We often get it Togo because during the weekend they can be quite busy! As far as breakfast places go they do "Togo" breakfast the best! Over easy eggs are still nice and runny when we get home, toast is still crunchy, cold items and kept separate! Anytime we dine in the servers are always very nice! They also leave a pot of coffee on each table so you never have to wait for refills which is a bonus for this coffee junkie! Also love there seasonal changing menu! Quite simply the best breakfast place to go to in the area. My family has been going here for years and we've always been greeted with a smile. The food is fresh, tasty & hot with plenty of options on the menu. Management has always been receptive whenever there has been a concern and as far as staff - I'd challenge any costumer to find a more consistent delivery of service. They are friendly, hardworking and always have enough staff to cover even on the busiest of morning rushes. From the circling busboys, servers, and management you'll never feel like you've been forgotten. Yes it can get congested at certain times, but you'll get better at understanding the rhythms of the mornings in Elmhurst in short order. Look at it this way, if you're looking for something nice that's a slam dunk satisfier that isn't busy at primetimes then it probably isn't a place you want to go to in the first place. Egg Harbor is okay - I usually get the Sam's Swedish Pancakes. Went there this morning and ordered it as the combo, with eggs "over medium." My eggs were definitely over easy and the white was extremely runny. When I let them know (because I don't want food poisoning...), they took my entire plate (eggs, bacon, Swedish Pancakes) to give me new eggs...even though I would have liked to eat my Swedish Pancakes. My new eggs were better, but definitely had wet whites still in parts of it...not really over medium. For reference, I am not overly picky and never send eggs back... They truly did give me undercooked eggs twice and I picked at the less undercooked eggs. And I regret eating most of the second set of eggs because I feel sort of sick now, prompting me to write this review. They were very busy (Sunday 10:30 am) and we had at least three waitresses bouncing between our table. They were all sweet, but the service was bad because they were being worked so hard among lots of tables. Food and service are just okay. I won't not go back, but I only ever go here when someone else suggests it. I also know to never order eggs because they undercook fried eggs, even over mediums that are supposed to have no runny whites. read more

By far one of the best breakfast restaurants around. The service is excellent and the food is great. Their restaurants have a great atmosphere and make you feel at home. I would recommend the blueberry pancakes for those people who regularly get pancakes when out o breakfast. It comes with a blueberrry compote to pour over them. Very good. Great breakfast place if you're in the burbs for some particular reason (as I was). Reminded me a little of Cracker Barrel because of the country decor and menu. VERY family oriented diner-style place, warm, friendly staff, great for kids. Food options were numerous and all looked so delish, I had to just pick something very quickly and close the menu so I wouldn't get confused and keep changing my mind! Had the California Smothered Croissant which was really tasty and a huge portion (of course I polished off the whole thing). I love Egg Harbor. I read some of the other reviews about the decor and I agree, it isn't the greatest, and sometimes I am not that pleased with the waitstaff, but the food is always the best. I almost always order the Eggs Florentine and it is the best that you can find, I've tried it at several other restaurants and it is never even close. I think my favorite part about the restaurant is that the vegetables that they use are always fresh. The spinach and mushrooms are always good. My husband changes what he orders and I don't think he has had a bad dish yet. It can get crowded so you may have to wait maybe 10 minutes. It is a little pricier than some other breakfast places, but so worth it. This is pretty much the only restaurant that I go back to on a regular basis. FYI, I've been to the Egg Harbor in Lombard and the one in Hinsdale and I still think the Elmhurst location is by far the best of the three. read more

My husband likes to say that I like "trendy" breakfast places and he likes his basic meat and eggs selection. Thus, it's often difficult for us to agree on a breakfast place we like to go to together. Egg harbor seems to be that anomaly. Not only do they have a good selection of the more "creative" items I like to try, but my husband gets his basic eggs and meat combo, all for reasonable prices. Not only that, but I'm pretty certain every single server we've ever had there (in fact every employee) has been incredibly friendly and nice- and seemingly genuine.
