Egg Harbor is hands down my favorite breakfast place in the world, let alone the North Shore. I would eat here any day over Walker Bros. Egg Harbor breakfast potatoes are the greatest things I have ever eaten, and I crave them nonstop. I wish so badly that there was an Egg Harbor in Colorado where I go to school :(. Whenever I'm home I make sure to come here more than once to indulge in their breakfast. Definitely get their breakfast potatoes and a rainbow pancake!! read more

Came for lunch based on my friends reviews. Friendly greeting and nice service. The water tasted absolutely awful so I ordered coffee and the coffee was horrible too probably because they use that same water. Kinda obvious if you're using intelligista coffee you should think about what water you put in it ;) I got a small cup of chili, loved it. It was spicy without adding anything so if you don't like spicy don't get it... I like spicy so it was perfect. Then had the power veggie omelet it was also very good. So I would say everything here all in all the food was good service was decent price were semi nuts. Probably would stick to the wild berry place in the future. read more

I've went to an Egg Harbor Cafe near my house in Elmhurst before and had a great experience. I decided to give this place a try because it's the same restaurant and it's really close to the university. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and seated right away. I appreciated that because they were busy and could have brushed us off for a few extra minutes. Our server was a really nice guy and checked up on us a few times to make sure we were doing fine. The food came out relatively fast. I think it was a very simple tasting breakfast. It wasn't as flavorful as other dishes I've had for breakfast but good nonetheless! Give it a try! read more

This is a great brunch spot! The service is always impeccable and the food is second-to-none. We all love a good brunch so expect to have a bit of a wait for a table, especially on the weekend. I have only ever been on weekends and yes, we had to wait to be seated but it was a very reasonable amount of time and most definitely worth the wait. LOVE this breakfast place! It's so cute and homey with great food. I like how they have a pitcher of water on the table and bring you the whole carafe of coffee if you order it. That way there is no having to flag down the waitress every time your cup is getting empty... especially considering the way my bf drinks water. The ceramic mugs used for the coffee are also so unique and cute and available for purchase (I was so tempted to!). The staff was super friendly and quick, food was fresh and not greasy (such a plus especially for breakfast places), AND they even give you a to-go cup for any coffee left over - who else does that?! I Love LOve LOVe LOVE their food. By far my favorite place to come for breakfast/brunch. Not only are the meals delicious but the service is great. My servers have all be sweet, funny and friendly, I've been here a handful of times and I haven't been disappointed what so ever. I've so far loved the hazelnut coffee, chorizo skillet and the steak avocado omelette! I think it's awesome that the specials are always changing (daily) and are always interesting (like the lobster omelette.. I like Egg Harbor Cafe although I'm not a fan of the Lake Forest location. The restaurant is small and the food quality just isn't the same. I ordered my favorite lobster scramble, substituting sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes. What I got was a sad little serving of cold sweet potatoes with my eggs. I didn't eat nearly as much as I usually do at breakfast. It's true, I could have come on an off day but I'm not taking my chances next time. You'll find me at the Libertyville location for sure. read more

The generous jalapenos on the cheese grits, causing over stimulation of M's senses is enough to make this rating A-OK. It was amusing to watch her carefully pick the green bits off the top of her grits. In my opinion, the grits were just fine. On my part, I had the ultimate grilled cheese with salad and potatoes. I didn't even taste the potatoes (I concede that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but there must be a limit when there is just too much food, right?). Although the grilled cheese was solidly good, I was surprised that I liked the salad the best. Yeah - and it was just a salad. Besides the side salad, I also liked my freshly squeezed strawberry orange juice - a must try! M's two plates of food were good. Besides the grits, we didn't share conversation about it. Our service was really over the top phenomenal. Despite a crazy hectic morning, our server smiled and was high energy friendly the whole time. Our food was brought to us in a timely manner even though our initial wait for a table was longer than projected. This is always the first place I take friends who are visiting. I have been coming here since I was little and the atmosphere is so happy and comfortable, I think I will never get tired of it. Their potatoes are out of this world and accompany almost every item on the menu; the Eggceptional Skillets are definitely one of the most popular items. If you have a sweet tooth, try their Cinnamon Roll French Toast or the Rainbow Pancake (on the kids' menu). Their combos are also great. For lunch, the Chicken Pecan Dijon salad is great - and HUGE. This is a great restaurant with really attentive and friendly servers. Perfect whether you want a quick breakfast or are taking a long lunch with friends. Just be careful on weekend mornings - the wait can get pretty long! But if you call ahead, they can tell you the wait time and put your name on the list! read more

The place is ALWAYS packed on the weekends, but you'll never find a more pleasant wait staff under this much stress. I have to give them a lot of credit for keeping cool under pressure. The food is your typical breakfast fair with some unique menu items for everyone, but they are especially good with kids. Lot's of variety for even the pickiest eaters. Not only is the food expertly prepared, but the servers are great. While attentive, they don't smother you. Fast, efficient and knowledgeable about the menu. Very accommodating and patient with kids. If there is anything to complain about, Egg Harbor is sometimes very crowded and a wait is to be expected on Saturday and Sunday mornings. We stopped by on the way to Great Lakes Naval Center at this amazing place in Lake Forest. I am so glad they were open because it was 7am on a Saturday morning and did not want dunkin donuts (no offense DD as I am a regular there, hehe). I wanted some eggs and coffee as we were going sailing that day. Food - We had the sir dugan and some serbian omelet I can't pronounce. Both were excellent. The coffee was great. And the berry jam was amaze ballz! Service - great. We had a great and friendly server.... Unfortunately can't remember his name :( Bonus - we got to know Lake Forest. What a cute little town. Everyone was up and children were respectful. Made us want to move there next (after we win the lottery of course as Lake forest area seemed expensive). read more

We stopped here on our way back home, and this place was just charming! The decor is very homey with a more rustic look to it. The coffee comes in cute little mugs and the menu is extensive. The food is fresh, and they accommodate substitutions without any hassle. My friend can't have gluten and they had a LARGE gluten free menu too! She was never able to have a cinnamon roll till now, and said it was fantastic. They do GF banana bread as well. The most surprising thing was that my breakfast and hers was the same amount! They don't charge an arm and leg for gluten free options which is amazing. All in all, the food is great and so is the service. I didn't know that this was a chain, and I usually try avoiding those when I travel. However, this is a chain breakfast place that I will definitely keep coming back to. read more

EHC is the best place to be on a perfect day to make it better or an imperfect day to make it better. The service is impeccable and the food is unarguably made with love. And of course the Lake Forest location says it all. I usually get the Warsaw Harbor (which I NEVER do) but today I selected the Lobster Scrambler and was equally pleased. 3 stars, just because I am in a good mood. I should put just 2 stars. I had the Barrington Benedicts, and what a disappointment !!!! Served with very few potatoes on the side !! And then, all the ingredient for that meal are come from Jewel Osco. Thick fake Canadian bacon, not tasty. Cheap English muffin, too dry. Even the Benedict sauce come from a big jar. At least the coffee from Intelligencia was good. Better to go another place if you have a better choice. But I don't think so. read more

It's been a month since I was here and I can't quite remember what I ordered. I think it was some sort of Italian berry French toast....thingy. I do remember that it was deeeeelicious and I'd gladly go back again. Service was super friendly and fast. There was a bit of a wait, but the hostess was very pleasant and when she found out I had to run to the drug store, she let me take the little buzzer thingy. It's tough to compete with Egg Harbor, as far as breakfast restaurants go. They have multiple locations and each one I've visited is at least "good." The Lake Forest location's service, food quality and wait times typically will exceed those expectations. Aside from the occasionally snobby host or hostess (tip: don't dress too casually if you don't look over 40 or they will seat you near the loud kitchen or at tiny tables instead of open booths), the servers and busboys are excellent and attentive. We've rarely had any issues, even with the new or trainee wait staff. The food is excellent here. The make-your-own skillet options is money. You can also opt to make it a combo which gets you a side of french toast and fruit. The Cinnamon Roll French Toast is excellent as well. I would also suggest whichever waffle menu item they have, as they seem rotate throughout the year. For being the only non-trucker breakfast place in the area, Egg Harbor's wait times are reasonable. We've never had to wait more than twenty minutes. This is pretty remarkable as certain breakfast joints out in the Libertyville area have extremely long wait times for a lesser dining experience. If you're looking for a breakfast place and you live in the Lake Forest area, Egg Harbor's your answer. read more
