Dropped in while in the area and had to burn some time. I arrived about 30 minutes after opening, was greeted very warmly by the cutest hostess imaginable and lead to my table. The wait staff was excellent, very prompt and friendly. The food, well, that fell short. I ordered a chicken fajita wrap with a side of fries. The fried were excellent, not your standard just-dropped-into-hot-oil variety but the kind that have a crispy, puffy exterior and very nicely seasoned. The wrap, Unfortunately, was way too salty and dripping with oil. I could tell the flavoring underneath could have otherwise been great if not for the heavy-handed seasoning. If I happen to be on the area I would instead try the breakfast. There's potential here, but I didn't have a great experience with my main dish this time. read more

We visited this restaurant twice. The first time was okay, but the second was terrible. The hours should be changed from closing at three to 2:30 at the latest, which seems more convenient to the staff. The menu was extensive. I ordered the salmon fillet plate. Salmon was obviously cooked and reheated, making it tough. The mashed potatoes were cold. The soup and vegetables were good. We were rushed to finish our meal. As soon as we put our forks down they cleared our table, including our water. They charge a 3% courtesy fee plus an additional 5% if you use a credit card, which is unfair. Flexible pricing would be better. Overall, the restaurant is okay, but I won't return because there are better places in the area to have lunch or brunch. read more

We have a wonderful experience at Butterhill's Cafe. Walking in we were warmly greeted and quickly sat. There's plenty of tables and booths, two larger tvs on at the back of the restaurant showing cartoons which makes it perfect for families dining, and and there's a decent amount of side between tables allowing for comfortable seating and walking space. The smell of fresh made waffles hung in the air. Our server was friendly and warm, she gave us plenty of time to look over the extensive menu, and helped me decide since I was in between a couple of choice. I went with the ham and Gruyère crepe. The crepe was light and fluffy, a perfect balance of sweet, salty, and cheesy. Hubs has jambalaya grits and really enjoyed it. We enjoyed our brunch there. The service was I rushed and friendly. I ordered a Benedict. I asked the waitress if she could change my side to a pancake and that I am willing to pay extra. She said she'll check and come back. she never came back and our food just came. On the side were fruits that I clearly did not ask for. On the top layer, there were melons and I started eating one and realized theres pineapple underneath, which im allergic to. I started having allergic reactions and tried calling a waiter over but no one was paying attention. My family and I decided to try this restaurant on a Sunday while we were shopping in the area. The restaurant was picked, which initially seemed like a good sign. The restaurant had a nice decor but the acoustics were horrible. You could hear every glass clink, and every other sound in the restaurant. We had no issue with our waiter. The service was fast and prompt. Coffee and water refills with no wait. However, the issue was the food. I, myself, order the jambayla grits with poached eggs. The other two people in party both ordered fish n chips. The jambayla.. my oh my.. thumbs up x2. The grits were very bland. The jambayla tasted like a can of campbell's soup heated up and dumped in a bowl. It was really hard to enjoy the poached eggs. I ordered a side of toasted rye to go with. I ended up eating the eggs with the toast. At least the toast wasted messed up! The menu is HUGE! I was going back and forth on what I wanted to order. I was tempted to get the fish n chips myself. A solid breakfast option if you're in the area. The food here is priced a bit lower than many of the surrounding breakfast/brunch restaurants in the area but the portion sizes are just as good. In fact, with the items I tried, I was a bit surprised at the amount of corn beef hash provided in the skillet and chocolate in the specialty pancakes. The flavor was pretty good, nothing special that stands out but done reasonably well and presented nicely. There's plenty of space in the dining room and lots of space outside as well, but it can get quite busy on the weekends. Service is quick and friendly and the decor isn't as trendy as the newest breakfast restaurants but nicer than what you'd expect from their lower prices. The menu also has a fairly complete and varied set of options so you don't have worry about trying everything they have to offer that quickly. read more

On top of that the staff up front was very kind and quick to give us service despite being very busy. Our food was great and our waiter was attentive and kind as well! This used to be Butterfields pancake house. Apparently, 6 months ago they went through a name change and rebranding. In some ways I wish they focused on the food more than the branding. The service is great. I never had a problem with keeping my iced tea filled, the server was prompt on everything. With the amount of staff on hand, they are making sure you lack nothing. The atmosphere inside and outside in the outdoor patio area are welcoming and conducive to having a discussion. The baffled ceiling helps reduce the noise levels. The tables have all the necessary items. They even use doilies for their cups. The disappointment comes in the food. The omelette was a great folded ham and cheese omelette, but a complete breakfast falls flat in the two sides I had. The hash browns were dry, flavorless... unless you think burnt is a flavor. The biscuit was so dry and hard, I gave up with attempting to cut it with a knife. They looked like they came from a package of premade biscuit and then sat out in the open for a day. If they could improve the side items, this could be a great restaurant. read more

My husband and I ordered carryout from Butterhills. I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes and my husband ordered the corn beef hash Skillet. I was excited to see that they loaded my pancakes with chocolate chips. There were chocolate chips in the batter and sprinkled on top of the pancakes. The corn beef hash tasted fresh, as did the hash browns and other veggies. Everything was still warm by the time I got it home. We've driven by this restaurant numerous times and decided to give it a try. When we walked up the hostess outside told us there's no seating left outside but they're wide open inside. We walked in and we're seated right away. Once we got to the table, our server immediately came up to while we were settling in and asked us if we were ready to order. We quickly ordered our drinks and looked at the menu. A few moments later she came back with our drinks and asked us again if we were ready to order. She said okay, and walked away to the server station and stared at me for a minute or two and came back to ask again if we were ready. At this point we had decided to just order the first things that sounded appealing to us. I had ordered the corn beef hash skill with my egg well done. The portions were huge, and the skillet was delicious. It was also National biscuit day so we decided to share a side order of biscuits and gravy. The gravy ended being a bit bland to my liking but it could've also just been the somewhat harder biscuit that came with it that took away from the experience. Maybe it was over toasted? Nonetheless, we celebrated the national holiday haha. My husband got the chilliqueles, the bottom of the bowl had all of the sauce and it was layered with a bunch of tortilla chips, then the meat, and egg and avocado. The sour cream and salad came on the side. The service is great, super friendly staff, and our waitress was on point, and it's an amazing place to bring little kids bc it's loud so people aren't offended if the kids talk a little loud sometimes. The problem is with the food. It was just unappetizing. The oatmeal tasted old, like it had been sitting a week, and the consistency matched. Sticky and slimy. The granola breakfast parfait was 95% fruit (and mainly melon), 4% granola , and 1% yogurt. Kids picked at their pancakes, which looked exceptionally dry. I was pleasantly surprised at how good our breakfast was today. This place has changed names so often that I am always leery of going here. But our food was great today. I had the oatmeal with berries and loved it. My husband and daughter had the egg skillet and both were excellent. The food came out piping hot and our waitress was excellent. The coffee could be better (not strong enough for my liking) but I would say I will definitely return. It is a bit pricey so keep that in mind. read more

Came here to meet up with some friends. They had an outdoor tent in the parking lot for outdoor dining. I ordered the corned beef hash. It came with peppers and shredded hash browns, along with a side of pancakes. The hash was somewhat salty for my taste, and not as crunchy as I would like. Updated review. I have been here multiple times due to family members going to the local Hairdresser. Overall, this place is very hit-or-miss. I have had some servers who went out of their way to make everything perfect, to servers who literally forgot I was there. One time I sat for 35 minutes waiting to order!! The food is also very inconsistent. Never really bad, but the same meal (The Farmers Skillet) has run from 5 stars to 2 stars over several trips. Warm flavorful and cooked perfectly to under-cooked and the broccoli tasting dirty and unwashed. Since the pandemic, they have had outdoor seating and there is often a wait for seating on nice days. You will not get a bad experience here, but you cannot guarantee a great experience either. The overall trend is getting better. Hopefully they will iron out the kinks and gain a respectable 4 stars soon!! read more

After driving by Butterfield's Pancake House time and time again we finally had the opportunity to stop in for breakfast on a Sunday. The staff was welcoming, polite and masked up. The restaurant was also checking temperatures before seating guests. The menu had many items you'd expect at a pancake house. One item that was particularly unique was the date, bacon and goat cheese omelette. My fiancé tried it and thought it was good. I had the New Mexico Skillet. It was a little heavy on chorizo for my tastes but that didn't stop me from enjoying it. The prices were fair for what was being offered. If you are in the area I recommend giving Butterfield's Pancake House a try. read more

Horrible. This place used to be so good but it was awful this time. I ordered smoked salmon hollandaise. The salmon was not smoked and was thick and rubbery and the hollandaise sauce was a weird color and tasted awful. I am not sure if it was old and reheated, but it was so bad I only ate half. It didn't look appetizing when it came to the table but I was hoping it would taste good. It looked like some slop you would get in a school cafeteria. This is such a good dish at other restaurants. Our waiter had such an attitude when my friend ordered a glass of orange juice as if she was putting him out doing that. They brought the wrong side and when I said this wasn't the side I ordered he had acted so annoyed even though I was polite about it and it wasn't my fault. You know, it's OK. I think the menu is way too big. It's both sides of a huge menu plus a shorter menu with the specials of the day. I think they need to cut that down and provide the basics and try not to be all things to all people. The service is very friendly. They really try to make you feel at home. The ordering and getting your food is very quick. I think it's a place that I would go to once in a while and it's good after Sunday church with family members. I have been a regular at this restaurant going back to when it was called "Butterfield's." This covers a period of at least 10 years. There are a lot of choices when it comes to places for breakfast and/or brunch and this spot is always my first choice. Yesterday (10/8) we met out of town relatives there. We'd not seen them for quite some time, so naturally, conversation and catching up ensued. I know that it was a busy time for the restaurant and the service was fairly rushed up when it came to clearing the table. That said, when the server came to the table and told us we had to leave because there were so many people waiting. I feel that we were not there for what I would consider to be too lengthy of a stay and when something like that does occur, I am always very generous when it come to tipping (25-30%) as I know that servers rely on their tips for a serious portion of their income. That said, I will tell you quite frankly that I was appalled at such treatment and I will think twice before returning. read more

Today we ordered takeout from Butterfield's Pancake House in Northbrook for lunch. Their online order was either not working or had stopped, so I did it the old fashion way by calling them. We ordered 2 orders of Eggs Florentine, one for my daughter and one for me, and I told the man that I would pick up at a specific time. I called back and talked to a lady to make sure that the pickup would be curbside, she assured me that it would be no problems and I charged over the phone. Both the man and the lady were nice and accommodating. The curbside pickup was smooth, and the man asked me not to throw away the paper that they had written my credit card number on, so that was thoughtful. It was a nice surprise that the Eggs Florentine was tasty and the portions were generous. I shared half of my order with my husband. It was a bit unfortunate that the hash browns were kind of soggy as they were inside a takeout box. I could imagine that the food would have been hot and delicious if we had dined in the restaurant. They also have a huge tent in the parking lot for outdoor dining. Today is rainy so there were no customers eating outdoors, but it would be nice if the weather is fine. We will be back! read more

This morning we redeemed a gift certificate for Butterfields. They are more than ready to serve you in their very large covered outdoors setting area which was full at 9:30AM.. Being a Friday morning I was a little surprised but based on my evedropping it seems most folks were regulars. This is always a good sign. The coffee was hot and service was quick and friendly. Each table had hand sanitizer an unfortunate but necessary addition to the salt and pepper that was the norm before Covid came to town. I ordered the pancake sandwich which consisted of a bone in ham slice between two light pancakes with two eggs. I ordered the eggs pouched and they were done perfectly. I was disappointed however that when I asked, "do you have Maple syrup?" I was told "yes I'll bring it out". What came to the table was your basic artificial flavored syrup. I hate to say it but for me to not have maple syrup at a breakfast resturant will always drop that resturant down a notch and to say you have it and to not have well, enough said. My wife had the corned beef hash skillet. She enjoyed the corned beef hash and the portion size was substantial, enough to bring home leftovers. The side biscuit was tasteless and no amount of butter and jam could save it. I unfortunately can confirm that the biscuit was more like hardtack than your normal fluff morning biscuit. So bottomline for me was the Butterfields was just okay and I might come back for the good service, hot coffee and the Salmon Eggs Benedict that I almost order and table next to me was enjoying. read more
