This is a small cozy place that's good for breakfast and brunch. I had the Eggy's Benedict. It's one of their specialties so I thought I'd give it a try. This is my second time here, the first time was late on a Sunday and was able to be seated right away. This time I came at 12:30 on a Saturday and the place was packed. Wait time was 15-30 min, but was able to seat myself at the bar in 6 minutes. Upbeat atmosphere, clean environment, and was served water right away. Sitting next to the kitchen let me peak over and see all of the food coming out and it smelled great! They do provide WiFi. Good for all size parties. On to the food: I ordered the same thing both times, build your own omelet with bacon, sausage, cheese, and avocado. The second time the egg was a little over cooked and had a slight syrup taste to it, not what I was going for. They do provide ample amounts of additions to the omelet, which is welcomed. The potatoes are great! They definitely stand out. The first time I got a side pancake instead of toast, it was average. Their cinnamon roll pancake dish looks interesting though, may try it out at some point. Overall, a nice spot for some good breakfast/brunch for yourself or with family/friends. Decent breakfast and good service. Nothing I would really talk about although my boyfriend said his Turkey Club was amazing. I ordered the 2 eggs plus meat ( well done bacon) and the Eggy's potatoes. I was not a fan of the potatoes. I thought they were bland. The steak fries had more taste. Music is loud but it was good music so no problem. Excellent food, delish coffee (with a mini thermos placed on your table for quick refills), outstanding service, and a wide-ranging menu. I couldn't ask for more. I ate the Spanish Omelette (just the right amount of fire/heat!) with a side salad and both were excellent! The portions were generous and filling. A friend ordered the Nutella Crepes and they were beautifully presented. My other friend ordered the Potene (sp?), eggs with a portion of gravy served on a mountain of French fries. Meh. Three stars. Eggy's, I wanted to love you. I really did. Grabbed lunch there in mid-August (no idea why this review has been in my drafts for months--total operator error) with a dear friend in town (from Australia) for work. We picked Eggy's because it was a short walk from her hotel, and because the reviews seemed pretty positive overall. Let's start with the good things, yeah? PROS: 1. The 30 minute wait was a solid estimation & actually not at all unbearable in the incredibly crowded restaurant. 2. A member of our four person party ordered the chocolate chip pancakes & they were absolutely epic. Get those! I get the feeling breakfast is where it's at here. 3. Service was fine. Not overly friendly, but also not overly intrusive (the latter being something we appreciated). Our server checked in on us, kept the water glasses full, but was certainly all business. Don't think he cracked a smile once, but I can get over that, I suppose. 4. For a crowded-to-semi-cramped restaurant, the spacing between the tables was decent. Yes, we could hear the people next to us rather clearly, but it didn't feel as though we were having lunch with them. So it worked out pretty well. CONS: 1. There is virtually NOWHERE to wait in the restaurant. We lucked out in being the only people who were waiting at the time, but had there been even one small party ahead of us...I have no idea where we would've stood. I mean...there is absolutely no space if you want to wait indoors. In temperate weather, this wouldn't even be an issue. But it was HOT and sticky and humid. So...prepare accordingly if you're heading over during the prime meal time and the weather is extreme in any direction. 2. Both my daughter and I had the grilled cheese and it was honestly the worst grilled cheese I've ever had in.my.life. It tasted like...nothing. Literally nothing. What?! Neither of us finished. How is it possible to mess up a grilled cheese? (Fries were decent, though.) 3. Later revisited the menu and was NOT offered the "complimentary cup of soup". Um, okay? (See attached image.) Overall, I have to confess I'm disappointed with the overall experience. I had such high hopes. Maybe I'd consider trying breakfast if I had no other options, but I'm certainly in no rush to return. Awesome place to stop by after an ice skating session at Maggie Daley park. The line can get excruciatingly long, so it's recommended to make a reservation a head online. We made a reservation and were still waiting longer than anticipated. The food made up for the wait. Everything had great flavor. I shared the poutine, green eggs and ham (with a pancake), and chilaquiles. I had def recommend these dishes. Surprisingly, the pancake was one of my favorite thing here. Stopped in mid week around lunch time. We were traveling and a brunch menu sounded good as we were not sure what we were in the mood for. I got the crab cake Benedict with their Eggy's potatoes. My wife got the fried chicken and biscuit with gravy. They have a solid menu and would eat here again and try some different stuff. Neither of us were too impressed with our meal. I grew up in TN and people just can't make gravy up here. It was not very good. Sorry guys, no need to elevate gravy for a biscuit. As I said, I would go here again, it's about preference and maybe we maybe we didn't select good menu item. The eggs Benedict part of my breakfast was good. The crab cake wasn't very crabby, I don't think it's a house made crab cake. But mixed with the eggs yolk and hollandaise sauce it was ok. Meh: Gluten free, vegan banana walnut choc chip bread. Pricey for $6.50! Burger. Not great, but not bad. Hits the spot if you're hungry. BLEH!: Green eggs and ham. This dish was super acidic and not satisfying at all. My suggestions: more fatty meat is needed to cut through the acid, remove the onions, and serve with biscuit/toast to soak up the juices and grits. Convenient location for those dwellers in Lakeshore East. Expect an energetic noise level, and get excited for Intelligentsia coffee! This place is still really new. Very convenient to the radisson and some other hotels. Seems popular but we got a quick seat. Fortunately our server was good enough to check on some preparations and I was able to avoid the bell peppers in the hash. Instead I got the Benedict with pork shoulder. We got to our table and it took forever for a server to take our orders, he wasn't nice or attentive and the hostess had to get involved and do his job. Came here after a morning yoga session because the original place we wanted to go had a 2 hour wait. Super happy that we did! Never heard of the place before and found it after a quick yelp search. We arrived and were greeted and told it would be about a 30 min wait. Considering the other place was about an hour and a half longer we didn't mind. The actual wait was closer to 45 minutes but it was a Saturday morning and it was packed. Once we were seated our waitress was very quick to get us drinks and get our food out to us once order. I had the chilaquiles with pulled pork and they were DELICIOUS! Also it was the prettiest chilaquiles plate I have ever seen (and I tend to order this dish at every restaurant that offers it). My husband got the Spanish omelette and said it had made its way into his top 5 omelette's he has had while dining out. After we got our food it was hard to track down our waitress again for a to-go box and the check but they were very busy. What a find. I looked onto Yelp and saw it's location, menu and directions. I opened the curtains at the Swissotel and it was downstairs at a beautiful walking park in the middle of downtown Chicago. I had to go downstairs 3 levels from the elevated Wacker drive. It was a great adventure to find the place. I saw it 3 times and finally made it there. I've been to Chicago about 30 times because of my work, and this was my first time coming to Eggy's thanks to my partner showing me, and I now definitely have a "my normal place" for when I come to town in the future. Freddy the manager is hands down one of the kindest employees I've had the pleasure of coming in contact with, even though there was a limited capacity due to Covid Freddy was constantly checking on us and even the surrounding tables to make sure we had all that we needed. Got an omelet and eggs Benedict to go. Very interesting spin on the traditional Benedict instead of muffin a Belgian waffle was used. Too heavy for my taste and waffle was too sweet. Omelet was good but avocado placed on the side was not the freshest one with tons of black spots. read more

This morning I was super hungry while we were sightseeing, and saw Eggy's. After looking at the menu, I was very much looking forward to this - they had chicken and waffles, which is one of my favorite food items. I will start this off by saying it wasn't the absolute worst thing I've ever eaten. I wasn't spitting it out or dry heaving after one bite. However, I do have a few complaints. The chicken and waffles were advertised as half a chicken on top of a waffle. Which was true - but they literally sliced a whole chicken in half and slapped it onto the waffle as is. Some people may not find an issue with that, but I found it to be quite unwieldy and difficult to eat. Most places I have been to cut the specific parts of chicken (wings, legs, thighs, etc) into individual pieces, which I think would have been an improvement. Additionally, there really just wasn't very much flavor to the meat or breading. I didn't see any seasoning at all, and if there was any, it was very hard to taste. This was my biggest complaint - fried chicken should be flavorful. Especially with the $16 price tag. I would have much preferred a smaller amount of well-seasoned chicken at a lower price than a large amount of poorly-seasoned chicken. The waffle was fine. It was a waffle. Not terrible, not amazing. Just didn't have anything about it that stood out to me personally. And, lastly, I found the seating arrangement to be a bit unpleasant. I understand that they try to get a lot of people in at once to avoid large wait times, but the tables were incredibly close together - so much so that it was impossible to not hear the conversations of those around you.
