We finally place an order, my drink arrives with purple lipstick all over it. That's disgusting and unsanitary, are you washing the dishes??? Great, homey diner. Super crowded during brunch time but definitely worth the wait. Massive portions and extremely friendly staff. Definitely a bit of a tight fit in some of the booths. Place can be a bit hard to find - you have to go to the very bottom of the park, down the stairs, to get the Eggys. Follow the signage if you are confused. They have wifi but you might need it since cell signal is pretty bad. The coffee is a little confusing - I never figured out if it was self service (there are carafes at the front) or if I was supposed to wait for a table carafe. Eventually we got a small carafe for the table but I had already filled up my coffee at the self service. Oops. Overall the food itself was pretty typical American brunch fare - with the exception that portions are absolutely massive. The "side" of potatoes is a literal entire side plate of potatoes. Biscuits and gravy come in a huge portion absolutely doused in gravy. I am not sure how someone could expect to eat this much in a single meal, but the portions are what they are. Pricing is on the expensive side for brunch food, but factoring in the sheer quantity of food you get maybe it's worth it. Service is a little chaotic. The place is absolutely crowded and there is constantly people coming in and out. In addition, the tables themselves are tiny - which feels comical compared to the huge portions. Just fantastic. Very extensive menu with options for the whole family. We had the Florentine crepes with a short stack of chocolate chip pancakes and iced coffee. For the price, it was a lot of food. Everything was delicious. Very fast and friendly service. Great atmosphere, not noisy. My only complaint is we couldn't finish our food because the portions are so generous. I ordered the Denver omelette with a cinnamon roll pancake on the side, while she got the full platter of CRPs. My omelette was absolutely outstanding. Weirdly shaped like a football, it was full of toppings but still had enough egg to avoid the feeling of eating a burrito where the scrambled egg constitutes a mere shell for the toppings. Almost perfect balance, and a large portion to boot. The pancakes made a lovely complement to my savory main, wrapped with pockets of icing throughout. I will say, I expected the sauce/icing to be warm, and it isn't (not cold either--basically just the temperature of the pancakes), which I found a little bit odd. So the pancakes don't fully achieve their potential, as my companion agreed, but still outstanding. I think the move is to get a savory main item and order something sweet either to share or as a side. YMMV. Eggy's diner? More like delicious diner... because it's really awesome and totally surpassed my expectations. Our table of 5 was completely stuffed after our late breakfast... like, utterly and completely. I got the corned beef entree with scrambled eggs and toast ($11.95) and shared a set of four pancakes ($8.25) and also had some of the table's breakfast poutine ($11.95). Let me start by saying that you will never find a better value than Eggy's in New Jersey or New York. You just won't. The value is just too good: you get a ton of food, and the prices are just too reasonable and the taste is just right. It's truly comfort food... to the max. The corned beef entree came with a metric ton of corned beef! It was a lot. While the meat was certainly on the salty side, balancing it with eggs really helped. The toast was... well, it was toast, so pretty good. The pancakes were also great! They were huge and super fluffy - very happy with how they came out. I actually ordered the pancakes to share because I didn't think the corned beef entree would be enough... how wrong I was! I don't regret getting the pancakes but it definitely wasn't necessary. Lastly, the poutine was phenomenal. I haven't had much poutine, but I particularly loved how you could really taste the gravy in every bite. It was cheesy, obviously, and I think the eggs that came with it also added to the gooey deliciousness. So, the wait time is pretty hefty. We waited about 50 minutes for our group of 5. Went to eggys for brunch! Had the black bean burger. The burger it's self was amazing. Nicely cooked, mouth watering ingredients. Table I sat at was dirty, food stuck in between the tables, and we waited to get served for at least 25 minutes. We ask to have our check brought with our meals, since we literally lost almost 30 mins just for them to take our order. And the server looked at us like we were crazy. I loved Eggy's! Super convenient location especially if you live on the New East Side. Loved that we were greeted by the super friendly host who managed to accommodate us pretty quickly (they don't take reservations so add your name to the waitlist on Yelp, turnaround is quick (had a less than 20 min wait)). Food was pretty great and worth it. Large portion sizes even though we only ordered two entrees and still ended up taking half of it home. The menu is also very extensive with so many options! What was great was that most breakfast dishes come with a couple sides (pancakes, waffles, potatoes, fries, etc). The servers were very friendly and awesome at accommodating us with any requests. The only thing was I wish our main server would've checked in more often (we ordered and then never really saw him again until the check and kept having to grab other servers attention if we needed any utensils or condiments, etc). Made the trek to Eggy's diner this morning in the pouring rain for breakfast, and I'm so glad that we did! This spot has a great menu and we loved our meals. My boyfriend had the breakfast burrito with a side of cinnamon roll pancakes, and I tried The Chucho omelette with a strawberry lemon pancake. All of the flavors here were excellent. Both of our meals came with potatoes and they were unique and deliciously seasoned with a slight crisp on the outside and soft center. We felt the portions were perfect and the prices were fair. Let me start off by saying one word: DELICIOUS! Eggy's diner is a perfect spot to have an early breakfast or late brunch before heading out to see the beautiful skyline in downtown, or hang out by the park across the street and enjoy the breeze. Our wait time was a little over an hour but luckily I started the waitlist on yelp to get a head start. Once we were seated, I cut right to the chase and ordered my food because I was starving. The first thing I noticed was the front cover of the menu which gives a little bio on Mr. Eggy himself which I found to be hilarious because he describes how he was nicknamed Eggy due to his "freakishly large head" lol. I ordered the breakfast tacos that comes with three soft corn tortilla tacos, scrambled eggs, chorizo, tomato, onion and cilantro and ranchero salsa, cheddar cheese, and avocado on the side. I also ordered the eggys french toast which I ended up splitting with my brother because the portion would've been too much for me to eat alone. My brother ordered the veggie skillet which consists of potatoes, zucchini, green peppers, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, cheddar and Swiss cheese. My sister in law ordered a stack of gluten free pancakes. Looking back on all the food that was on our table, I wish I can go back and try that food again because it was just soooo damn good, it gave me the perfect satisfaction of a delicious and filling breakfast while I was out here in Chicago. I swung by Eggys after visiting the Art Institute and suddenly finding myself starving. It was close to 3 in the afternoon and I was craving breakfast food. The menu advertised the chicken and waffles as one of their signature dishes so of course, I had to try it. When my food came out, the first thing I noticed was how large the serving was. My fried chicken was hugggeeee. Honestly, if I weren't doing more touristy activities that day, I would've taken half of it to go. I skipped breakfast that day so I was starving when I ate, but it was more than enough to fill me up and then some. The waffle was your standard fare and it was perfectly browned. However, the chicken was a mixed bag. The skin was a little bit of a disappointment. I was honestly hoping for it to be a little bit crispier but it definitely still have a satisfying crunch. Some parts were perfectly juicy and flavorful while I found other parts super dry and had to wash them down with water. A little disappointing that one of their signature dishes had parts that were dry and bland but the parts that were good were very good so I'm a little bit conflicted. However, I also wasn't served my slaw on the side (I'm not a huge fan of slaw anyways so I didn't ask) but hopefully that's not something that regularly do. Told by the hostess it was a 20-30 minute wait. We asked if we could have coffee from the urns at the front and were told, "It's not free!" Ok...we paid for our coffee and settled into wait. It took an hour to seat our party of 6 and only then because we kept checking back and asking why tables were empty. We were told the empty tables were reserved for the manager. The manager? Isn't this a restaurant for customers? They finally split our party after two of us volunteered to sit at the bar. But then we had to ask that the cleaning rags, spray bottle and dirty dishes be removed so we could sit at the bar. Overall a very frustrating experience. Not sure if the food will make up for it as we're still waiting for that, too. read more

I cant remember how I came across this place but I am so glad I did. I loved the surrounding area (huge outdoor half park area), although the diner does not offer outdoor seating and the interior is nice but nothing special. It is close to nearby attractions like Navy Pier. When I got there, the place was about half full. I love "breakfast food" any time of the day. I am usually very basic with my meal but I like it a specific way. I ordered scrambled eggs with bacon and potatoes with a side of toast, as well as a glass of fresh orange juice. The meal is generous with 5 pieces of bacon, at least 8 pieces of potatoes, 2 slices of toast and some of the fluffiest scrambled eggs I have ever had. They tasted like clouds!! I forgot to ask for cheese in my eggs, so I asked some on the side and they got me a generous portion of shredded cheddar cheese. I give this part of my meal a 5/5. The service was also great. The waiter was attentive and helpful without pestering. I then decided to order myself something sweet and I was not as satisfied like I was with the salty part of my meal. I ordered the banana and pecan pancakes, as well as the crunchy Nutella french toast. The pancakes smelt amazing (like unbelievably yummy) but did not taste that way at all. I took one bite and that was it. I also would like it if restaurants that served pancakes would incorporate some of the ingredients into the batter. The french toast was not as bad but based on whats listed on the menu, I am not sure i tasted the peanut butter and I am not sure why there was cinnamon when this wasn't listed on the menu. Cinnamon is a very potent spice and should be used sparingly - especially when in sprinkled on the dessert vs baked. It overtook the taste of the Nutella. It was definitely better than the pancakes. I wonder if I made the wrong choices but if the dessert portion of the meal matched the salty, this would have been a 6/5! Lol Definitely worth checking out! read more

This is my second time here, the first time was late on a Sunday and was able to be seated right away. This time I came at 12:30 on a Saturday and the place was packed. Sitting next to the kitchen let me peak over and see all of the food coming out and it smelled great! They do provide WiFi. Good for all size parties. On to the food: I ordered the same thing both times, build your own omelet with bacon, sausage, cheese, and avocado. The second time the egg was a little over cooked and had a slight syrup taste to it, not what I was going for. They do provide ample amounts of additions to the omelet, which is welcomed. The potatoes are great! They definitely stand out. The first time I got a side pancake instead of toast, it was average.
