Saw this place had good reviews so I had to try it out. It was about 35 minutes walk from my hotel to here. I saw there was wait time of ~40 mins so i joined the waitlist on yelp for a party of 1 while I walked there. When i got there, i checked in at the front and they checked to see if there was any available spots at the bar. There was and I was able to be seated right away. I ordered a small cup of orange juice and 2 eggs with meat. I got bacon as my meat and toast as my side. I believe the small cup of orange juice is freshly squeezed which tasted pretty good! I should have gotten the large. The only thing I was bummed about was that the orange juice wasn't cold. I like my orange juice cold. It was still good though! The wait for my food was pretty quick! I didn't wait too long to get my food. The food was fresh and delicious! It was hot too! The eggs tasted plain, but I can always season it with salt at the table. The potatoes and bacon was good too! The toast was yummy! It wasn't burnt or over-toasted. It was perfect for me! I enjoyed the toast a lot! I added strawberry jam with it! The service was good! Didn't have any issues here! What a fantastic experience! We were quoted a 30-minute wait but actually were seated within about 15 minutes. The hostess was really good at her job. They were so busy, but she stayed friendly and organized. Our food was delicious and came out exactly as we ordered it. It was perfect! HUGE portions and very reasonably priced. Brian was the bartender/server who took care of us, and he did a great job. We asked to speak to the manager to compliment him, and he (Freddy) came right over. Pricey and disappointing. We went to Eggy's diner mid morning and had a disappointing meal. I ordered the shakshuka with naan...it came with toast instead. The shakshuka tasted good, although it was marked as a vegetarian dish and it came with feta cheese. The avocado toast barely had any avocado on it. No refills on coffee either. Considering the costs and that the restaurant wasn't all that busy, we expected much better. read more

I just hate really crowded restaurants (I'm a bit claustrophobic). Of course it's busy on Thanksgiving morning, but why pack in so many tables? I couldn't even reach for my water without tipping something over. Luckily, a spot in the corner opened up and we moved. Again, tight spot. But at least I wasn't rubbing shoulders with the people on both sides of me anymore. I frequent the Eggy's Diner in Minneapolis and the menu's are identical. However, the Florentine Benedict did not sit well with me. The flavor was lacking. It was crazy to imagine that this was the same restaurant. The host staff were busy chatting while people waited for long periods of time to be seated (and yes, there were empty tables that were cleaned) but that didn't phase them. The pancakes were -- nondescript. Looked pretty on top w all the fruit and nuts but nothing in the batter. Then, halfway thru the meal, ran the "our credit machine is not working now so you'll have to pay cash." We heard this repeated to folks coming in the front door. I've gone to Eggy's multiple times and I think it's a great option for breakfast/brunch. In my opinion it is better than the overhyped and overcrowded Wildberry that is also in the area. -Welcoming and cozy diner atmosphere. -Big heavy mugs are constantly refilled with coffee. -Servers are always extremely friendly and attentive--whether you sit at a table or at the bar. -Egg and omelette dishes are fairly standard, but very good. -They have some of the best breakfast potatoes I've ever had--perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft and tender in the middle. -Bacon is high quality and cooked to be an ideal ratio of crispy and chewy. -They also have good lunch options and delicious milkshakes. -You can byob and make your own mimosas or bloody mary's at your table--they'll bring all the ingredients for you if you bring the booze! -It's definitely a great place for a neighborhood feel in the middle of downtown. read more

Stopped in for breakfast on Labor Day. It is in a very out of the way location so you may have to look a little. We ate here two years ago and liked it so four of us found our way here and had to wait about 30 minutes as this place was busy. Seating is a little cramped so if you do not like to rub shoulders with strangers, go when they are not busy. Freddy was our server and he was very polite and glad we stopped in. Told us they like to be open on Labor Day because so many other places are closed. ALL of our meals were served very quickly and correctly. Too many choices to discuss here but we had everything from eggs to waffles to biscuits and gravy to pastrami hash and you get it. Great coffee too. The whole experience was well worth the decision to go. And yes, this is a go to place in my book. read more

Eggy's Diner is located next to Mariano's grocery store and in the loop around Maggie Daley and Millennium Parks and east of Michigan Avenue. It's faces a hidden courtyard of the dog park and an open field that some of the locals in that area play frisbee during the summer. Its surrounded by skyscrapers making it feel like a hidden gem amongst its little community. I've now been here a few times, and its an easy walk from where the PIC (Partner in crime lives)... Yes, down many many steps. But worthwhile on the svelte bod you want to keep, prior to the caloric intake. Eggy's has large front windows, high ceilings, 80's tune age happening, industrial-ish decorum. Definitely a local place, complete with children's drawings in the window. Black and white Chicago-esque framed photos. They serve Intelligista coffee. Counter seating, giant chalkboard under the kitchen with todays specials and a bit of humor. One of my last visits... we arrived around 2pm. No wait. Our server is Mary. (We've had her multiple times) She's super on top of it! Literally, I'm not sure she's human. Lemons for water? There. Water, giant bottle. Ketchup? Boom. Who is this friendly and polite superwoman? Fast food delivery to the table as well. PIC orders the Nutella Banana french toast. Not as crunchy as we would hope. Bananas are soft and not that fresh. The syrup is def NOT maple. Its tasty and looks good, but definitely not what you'd hope. I order the tuna melt. Comes on a toasted english muffin. Tuna salad was creamy and the celery was crunchy. (Fresh!). The melted cheddar ontop however was cold. So what part of melt means "melt"? I'm not sure. Fries were good, crisp outside and salted fine. I came back just a couple weekends ago though and tried the Cinnamon Roll pancakes. Now, at Wildberry (pancake heaven) they are just so spectacular that I think they've ruined it for everyone else.... At Eggy.. they are rolled up like an attempt at a cinnamon roll with a supposed brown sugar roll and filled with mascarpone (which to me, is no substitute for cream cheese, it's too mild and really has a different melting point when its against a warm product). The toasted pecan addition was a nice added crunch, texturally and flavorfully. The syrup though, again, wwww regular pancakes syrup. Too sweet, too overpowering, making it not as enjoyable as a whole. In my opinion, still with the savory items. They seem more on point, fluffy eggs, etc. Mary is outstanding. Can she cook? My parents and I were in Chicago for the weekend, and we stopped here for breakfast Sunday morning. There was already a wait by 10am, but it was totally worth the wait! It was very much a diner experience, and the service was quick and efficient. Even while they were packed, we never felt neglected. My Mom and I had the Eggy's French toast made out of Challah bread. It was so fluffy and cooked perfectly. I also had a side of the biscuits and gravy, and the gravy was some of the best gravy I have had in a restaurant setting, tasted like homemade. My Dad had an omelette and said it was prepared perfectly. It was not over or uncooked, but just right, with the eggs a tad runny in the middle. It came with a side of potatoes, that were perfectly seasoned and just the right amount of crispy! Even after we were stuffed we couldn't stop eating them! He also tried the pancakes, and they were also delicious, so light and fluffy. Much better than most places that can make them too doughy. Overall, I would highly recommend Eggy's! Favorite breakfast in Chicago. We ate here at 10 and didn't need to eat again until 5 so it was great value for money too. My son had the chicken and waffles and declared them one of the best things he has ever eaten, I had the gyro skillet and my husband has the gyro omelette. It was hard to tell them apart except for the way the eggs came on the plate. Very very good. This place was a letdown. We are from Detroit and we wanted a good brunch place. We waited 35 minutes, which was fine. However, we didn't get greeted by the waiter for at least 3-5 minutes once we sat down. So by the time the waiter came, we were hungry and ready to order. Instead of the waiter taking our order promptly, he left and said he'd be right back. He came back over 5 minutes later. My husband ordered a volcano omelette but they ran out of steak, so he couldn't get that. But the waiter gave us a free mimosa to compensate. I ordered a mimosa myself and it was just ok. They were on the smaller side and very sweet. I'm an avid mimosa lover and I didn't even want a second one. It was really pulpy too. I ordered the Verg omelette. Once again, it was mediocre. I wasn't impressed. I wouldn't order it again. I liked the avocado in it but the omelette was just missing something. The potatoes that come with it are good, but mine were really sweet. They tasted like they were covered in syrup. Maybe this is their style but it definitely wasn't mine. The toast was really good and fresh. Overall, the service was ok. I definitely wouldn't consider it prompt service. I would give this place a second try and I'd order something else. Decent brunch food in a convenient area of town. Food is pretty standard breakfast dinner food, no interesting twists or anything mindblowingly delicious but its well-priced with big portions in a touristy area. Service was quick and friendly. Also has enough seating for large groups. However, this is not a place I would wait in line for. I tried their Colorado omlette which was actually quite good. Again, no amazing flavors but it was as cooked appropriately with a good sprinkle of turkey, bacon, tomato, avocado etc. I did find their pancakes a little dry but the portions were so big that the pancakes were just a plus. Where to start , where to start? Let me just start by saying that this place is EVERYTHING! Its my second time visiting and my first time visiting since Covid and im so happy to say that everything was still the same! I had the same wonderful experience this time as i had before , last year pre-covid. Nothing was compromised. The delicious food , the attentive service, the high standard of cleanliness, the seriousness of social distancing the tables, the friendliness of the staff...I was definitely pleasantly pleased. My favorite thing about the place is that the food tastes as good as it looks. And they have a digital menu slideshow on a big screen and the food comes out looking EXACTLY as its pictured. We had the most awful experience a few weeks ago. We went in with a group of eight people, we were all visiting Chicago from St. Louis. After getting seated we waited for about 10mins and our waiter wouldn't come take our order. We were seated next to the cashier stand so asked the cashier if she could get our waiter. The waiter comes reluctantly to get our order. You could tell he did not want to wait on a large party. Or maybe it was because some of us were speaking in Spanish and he didn't want to serve Hispanics. He looked annoyed. He brings waters and the glasses are disgusting. One glass even had leftover residue from food or something, it was disgusting. It took forever to get our drinks. One of our friends ordered a specialty cold coffee and never even got it. When our food arrives our server never came to check on us. We waited and waited and even tried to catch his attention to get the bill and he ignored us on purpose. We finally ask the cashier lady for our bill and she goes over to the waiter to work out the bills. My husband and I get overcharged with everyone's coffee and tea order and the waiter refuses to fix our bill. And we never had water refills because our waiter never came back to our table. And while it was a weekend brunch it was not so busy that he couldn't come to us because we could clearly see him waiting on other tables. Awful awful experience do not recommend this place to anyone the service is horrible. While the food was okay (not great) the service is horrendous. If I could leave them a negative star review I would. Do not go here! read more

I LOVE THE EGG SANDWICH!!! Side of Potatoes are delicious - ask them to make them crispy because it's a hit or miss. Once mine were way too salty. I went à bunch of times and most of the staff is nice - some of them have an attitude - the food though and service is pretty good and so that's what matters. The location is great. Try to get a booth if you can and then you can go for a walk in the park adjacent which is so beautiful. Favorite spot to take friends or family coming in from out of town. The potatoes were very mediocre, slightly crunchy but mostly soggy. The pancake was fluffy and moist. The main dish - the omelette was so-so. Ran by this place on St. Patrick's Day. It's in a bit of a secluded location, but conveniently next to a Mariano's in case you want to get some grocery shopping in after a hearty meal! Lovely little diner. Big portions, very reasonably priced, and kind waiters. I ordered my own omelette with salmon, spinach and avocado. It came with a pancake which I upgraded to cinnamon roll flavor for only $1 more. Very delicious and a nice sweet touch next to the omelette. Four eggs later, I was quite full and happy. The only downside is the salmon was a bit salty, but overall, the food came quickly, and it was a delicious post-run brunch. My friend ordered the black bean burger with a side salad, and chicken tortilla soup. She enjoyed her meal as well, and it was vegan-friendly. Overall we paid about $28 with tip! read more

In response to the below comment from the manager, I want people to know that Eggy's did NOT reserve multiple tables for my party of 5 as suggested by the business manager. Eggy's squeezed all 5 of us into a four-person booth table. No extra tables were reserved, they simply squeezed an extra chair into one table meant for four people. As far as addressing my concern for the overcharge, Eggy's is addressing this concern four weeks after the fact. This has obviously already been corrected with my credit card company as I make a point to keep itemized receipts for when poor service like this happens. I would also like to point out the way the business manager worded his pointed review. It looks like Eggy's needs customer service lessons all the way around. read more

Delicious meal. We are visiting from Florida and braved the freezing, windy walk to get to this restaurant and it was totally worth it. Just FYI for families with kids or elderly - if you are out if towners there are elevators to bypass the stairs to get to this area where the restuarant is located. I got Eggy's Breakfast Sandwich which consisted of - "Fried egg, bacon, red onion jam, mixed greens, herb aioli on a bun and served with Eggy's potatoes". For the kiddos got the chocolate pancakes. I also got a hot chcolate to ward off the chill of the walk over. The food was brought out in a reasonable time. That sandwich qss amazing, the first bite with the running yolk had me hooked. The red onion jam really set it off as well. Well cooked and all the food was hot and fresh. Their pancake syrup was tasty as well. The hot chocolate was served with what tasted like freshly made whipped cream and it was perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and would definitely return.
