The bagels are delicious. I get the onion bagel with jalepeño salsa schmear. They also have puppy bagels and my dog loses his mind over them. The staff there is always very polite and helpful. The only downside is sometimes you don't get enough cream cheese and if you ask for more they charge you for extra and I think there should be more than a little swipe to begin with. read more

He is almost always out front, so he sees what is happening in his store, and if they have run out of your type of bagel in the afternoon, he will make a fresh batch for you. They have photos on the walls and seem to adore the gentleman who is either the manager or owner - he's like an icon at this place. You want Einstein's to be a predictable,solid experience. I'm not sure what's going on here today but they are out of a bunch of stuff, super slow and inefficient service, and the place is a mess. They are out of plain chips, Asiago bagel dogs, ice in the machine, and the machine that dispenses non-carbonated drinks. The trash cans are overflowing and there are drips and stickiness everywhere. The shift manager offered to get me ice from behind the counter and used the cups themselves to scoop the ice. I'm pretty sure the health department says no to that. read more

I do enjoy bagels from here but tonight I was beside myself while heading home on the west bound 78 freeway between college and el camino I was behind a Einstein Bagel van all black with license plate 6zpv748 swerving constantly into the shoulder and when we both excited the freeway at el camino the van was in the right hand lane to turn left and I was in the left lane to turn left the van immediately cut me off and went across 4 lanes. I'm sorry but if you have people that are clearly incapable of driving and have no regards of others on the road I have no desire to frequent your establishment. They can keep their smear. I ordered a toasted sesame bagel with lox spread. I received a smashed bagel barely toasted with what looked like a thin butter like layer of something salmon. The bagel was terrible and the smear had soaked into the bagel and you could hardly find it on the bagel. I spit it out and threw the rest away. Never, never, never again!!! read more

We love bagels. Evil, evil bagels. My husband is from New York, so of course, I get the "NY bagels are always the best because of the water' BS speech on the regular basis. (What-EVER!) Since there is a wasteland around Oceanside where no bagels exist, we have to schlepp down to Einstein Bros. to get bagels. We've had their sandwiches, and they're expensive and marginal. It always takes for-FREAKIN-EVER to get up to the counter because the line snakes from the counter to the door. When you get to the counter, the service is marginal to testy. Obviously, bagel barristas aren't happy campers. The bagels by themselves are big and chewy and pretty good. We've just stuck with buying a dozen when we go there, and the bagel barrista always tries to force us to buy cream cheese. I make it very plain that 'no thank you' we don't want the cream cheese, and they look offended, EVERY SINGLE TIME. (Seriously, dude. It's not you, it's just that bagels are fattening enough without the smeary goodness of cream cheese to tempt me! Back off!) Maybe they work on commission or something? Anyway, I just wish there was another bagel option in the Oceanside area because this Einstein Bros. is the only option, so a customer is stuck standing in a long line for so-so service and cream cheese guilt. I just want a bagel! Stop pressuring me! read more

Very unsatisfied with the service of the location. The bagel tasted fine (besides the dripping grease off the bacon and the fake spongey egg). But when I got there the customer in front of me was speaking with the manager about a wrong order. There was two registers open but for some reason the manager and two sales associate had to attend to this one customer on one register while a few of us waited. Finally I order my sandwich and I ask for the estimated time it will be ready because I have an appointment soon. The manager tells me about 5 minutes. As I wait, I notice the staff (mostly young adults) shooting the shit and messing around behind the counter. One young fella who seemed to be in training was just standing around relaxing. He was wearing gloves but kept touching his face and body and putting his hands on every surface accessible. And he was the one giving the orders out to the customers. The food quality isn't worth it and the service was terrible (not to mention unhygienic). read more

I LOVE Einstein Bros Bagels.... they are definitely better than Panera. I was very excited to find an Einstein Bros in Oceanside and had become somewhat of a regular. The bagels are awesome, and they are the only thing that kept me coming back, despite of the terrible, awful service. When you walk in, more often than not (no matter how early or late morning it is), the line is just awful. And you KNOW it's not going to move quickly. I saw several people walk in, say forget it let's go to Starbucks- and I've made that same decision on multiple occasions. It seems to be getting worse, I don't know if they are more busy or if their staff is insufficient or what. They are generally out of the bagel I want (hello- blueberry is popular. you are always out. how about how we make more, so we don't continue to run out every single day? gasp! What a novel concept...). What really irks me is that I hate toasted bagels. They always ask if you want it toasted or not. No matter how firm I am - reiterating that I DO NOT want it toasted, please make sure it isn't toasted, etc- they ALWAYS toast it. Why the heck do they even bother asking??? I used to make them redo it. Problem is, when you've waited in line and for your food for a total of 25 mins (for one bagel with cream cheese- 25 mins!!!), you don't have time to wait any longer to go through a second time. Not to mention the staff. They have one guy who seems to be the manager who is friendly- but the rest of the staff is just awful. Not friendly or personable at all. Maybe they need more help so they can be more relaxed? You can imagine who the awful staff reacts when I politely ask them to redo my bagel which they have toasted for the billionth time (eye rolls, huge sighs, death looks). Bottom line- LOVE the bagels- and the bagel sandwiches. But the long wait, terrible customer service, and knowledge that they WILL mess up my order every time, means I'm finally done and taking my business elsewhere. Starbucks does make a delicious bacon artisan sandwich... for cheaper... and it's right in the same strip mall.... :-) read more

EVERY TIME I GO TO EINSTEIN BROS I GET SICK! I am not sure what it is, maybe I am allergic to something, but it is very difficult to say what I am allergic to as they do no change their gloves between each handling of every food item between every order. It never fails! Every time someone brings the place up I think yeah, taste is great, Ill give em another shot. Then we go and as guaranteed i get sick again. Not to mention the Manager there yells at his employees right in front of all his customer standing in line or in the lobby. What a great community asset! Although I noted a reviewer who complained about being asked if he might donate to raising money to feed hungry children, I not only didn't mind, but I gladly wanted to join in. I see restaurants around the country and TV programs on food raising the same concern and joining hands to feed children in need in a national effort to address a serious problem. This is what neighbors do, join hands and pitch in. Einstein's asks if you would like to give and backs it up by offering some coupons worth far more than your gift. When you add this to outstanding bagels and food items, a staff that treats everyone like a neighbor and calls customers by name, it is no wonder this Oceanside Einstein's does the business it does with long lines of repeat customers. Einstein's also has one of better loyal customer programs that gives weekly discounts and recognition to customers. My friends and I, all with extensive experience in traveling and enjoying food around the world, can't imagine not starting the day with a cup of coffee and a warm out-of-the-oven bagel with Ash, the manager, and his wonderful staff.
