I CRAVE the volcano chicken like no other. Haven't had anything else there and I've been eating there for years. Best in town.

Saw this for first time today. Wasn't hungry, but went in for a "complementary " to-go menu for future reference. "We only have that on Facebook or ..something else.. instantly put off. HELP PROMOTE YOUR BUSINESS!! It doesn't cost that much to print that. Another thing, the music was WAY to loud. I understand you may like "YOUR" music, but I wasn't impressed. Wear ear buds. I was passing through Grand Junction and wanted to grab a bite. Seeing that Grand Junction has a Hawaiian restaurant I knew right away I wanted to eat here. I called about 10 minutes out in hopes to order for pick up. When I called, a lady picked up the phone and immediately asked if I could hold. She put the phone down and I was on hold for 10 minutes before I hung up. By then, I already arrived at the restaurant and just went in to order. There's signs outside their door asking customers to wear masks and max occupancy of 2 customers inside at once, but there was no enforcement of any of those rules. People came in not wearing masks and there was 4 people crowded around waiting for their food as the hallway to the bathroom was even blocked off with a sign "no public restrooms". I came at noon and they were already out of mac salad. I ordered the chicken katsu plate and while the chicken katsu was good, it came with a rather disappointing side salad, which was a small portion of unwashed mixed greens and a dressing packet of ranch. The spam masubi was not well made at all-- it was a slab of spam with way too much rice and no teriyaki sauce. A real spam masubi should have been a piece of spam cooked in teriyaki sauce and then added to the rice and seaweed wrap. Either way, that was not worth the $2.50 so skip the spam masubi. Overall, the chicken katsu was crispy but with the disappointing basic greens did not make the meal worth $14. read more

Flavors are really great. The chicken Katsu is crispy and the chicken is good, a mix of white and dark meat. The rice is a yummy sticky rice and the Katsu sauce is thick and flavorful. The macaroni salad was different than what I've had before. It was okay; I'm unsure what the extra flavor was...maybe a basil or something green. It's a To-Go place, though there is seating inside. The menu is limited but allows for focus on what they do best. I was surprised by the prices though. It's pricey. For a bowl of rice and Katsu, with a (SMALL!!) side of macaroni salad ($2.50), it was over $12, plus tip took it over $14...and that was without a drink. You can substitute the green salad for macaroni salad in a "plate" but it's even more expensive. Those are Grand Junction "nice" sit-down restaurant prices. I don't know that I'd choose it again unless I'm really hankering for some Hawaiian. read more

I was referred to check this place out by a friend and was super excited to check it out. However after the experience I had, I definitely will not be going back or recommending it to anyone. The menu online was pretty vague, so we called in and the guy who answered the phone was extremely rude and did not want to help us. We asked what sides they had because it only showed two online, we were told they have a lot of sides. He said he was not going to read us the menu that we should go in and order. We went right after getting off the phone and it was totally empty, I could understand if it was busy. We went in to order and the prices online do not match the prices in the store. There were no sides listed in store. When getting home we realized our order was wrong. We called and instead of just apologizing he argued that we said our order incorrectly and gave us what we ordered. read more

Food portions habe gotten smaller and increased tremendously. They no longer give sauce with purchased items. Tried to charge me $4 for a plastic container of sauce. Service is slow, no where to sit while waiting ling times for your food. Utterly disappointed and will no longer be supporting this small business. read more

The Chicken Katsu was delicious! I give that a 5. The rest of the experience wasn't that great. We dined in and it was served in styrofoam to go containers. The Mixed Green's Salad side was literally just lettuce and not much of it. The Mac Salad was delicious but a tiny portion. The whole place is a little over priced. We asked for water glasses and they said no. The cashier also forgot to ring up our drink, so we had to do two transactions. The flavor of the food was really the only reason this wasn't a 2 star review. read more

This is my favorite Hawaiian grill in Junction! I was introduced the Volcano chicken by a coworker and I was in love! The chicken is crispy, crunchy, and juicy in the middle served over steamed white rice and topped with a tangy volcano sauce and green onions. The sauce isn't too spicy, but just spicy enough to push the bowl over the top. However, it is a little expensive and I would not recommend for family dining as it could be up to $30-50 per family. My friend and I went there and it was almost $20 for 2 chicken and rice bowls, no drink or sides included. However the portions are good sized,but definitely not worth $9 a bowl. But enjoy this place to support your local restaurants! read more

I usually really enjoy this place! They have excellent volcano chicken that is to die for! But this past visit has left me extremely disappointed. The quality of food is hit or miss. Sometimes the chicken is very fresh tasting and has a crunch to die for. Other times the chicken is grey and soggy and lacking anything that makes it appetizing. Today my chicken had hardly any sauce and my $7 dollar side of volcano fries had enough sauce for a mouse to enjoy. Went in and I swear that I got ripped off, I was charged 27 dollars for 1 plate of volcano fries, I just came like a couple weeks ago as well and it was 15ish. I had no way of verifying if the price was right because the menu prices were covered in black tape. This is extremely shady and I nearly payed double than I should have. Perfectly and conveniently located across the street from the CMU campus. Spam musubi is the perfect snack to tide me over before my last class, and for $2, it's a wonderfully comforting nori pocket of steamed rice and crispy, salty spam. The rest of their menu is just as delicious, and it's super rad that they have a $6 special every day, too. Pretty much anything on the menu is gonna treat you right, and the cost makes sense for the ingredients used regardless of what some of the other reviewers say. Forget that sandwich store next door and try something more adventurous! read more

I went in for my first time today and could not be more impressed!! Even the lady waiting for her food kept boasting about how wonderful the place was. Amazing artwork, the story of the artist is truly empowering. The young girl working the register saw I was in a frenzy about what to get, so I took her recommendation for the Katsu Chicken sandwich with an amazzzzzing macaroni salad. The sandwich was giant but oh so delicious. I will literally go there just for the macaroni salad now. I cannot wait to try their poke bowls too! Very pricey!! Good food tho.... They have recently raised their prices. For a plate size of North shore shrimp it is now close to $16!! The plate size portion used to include a fountain soft drink and it doesn't any longer. So add $2.50 for a fountain soft drink. The green salad used to come with a yummy dressing and now they put a packet of ranch dressing in the box with your food. With tax it becomes a $20 meal that comes in styrofoam container and you sit on picnic tables inside. The shrimp plate is very tasty but won't be back due to the price increase. read more

Very disappointed !!! We were going to eat there but when asking for a cup for water , they ran out of cup. They would not let us use the soda cup just for water without charging for it. The price is also way too high for the amount of food that you got. They are not worth it. Also when we got home , they forgot to give us a side of macaroni salad that should come with the sandwich. Very good! I had the Kalua Pork as it was one of the 3 gluten free option. It had a tasty sweetness to it, but not overly sweet. Small hole in the wall type of restaurant with 3 picnic tables and some bar stools in front of the window. We ended up sitting with strangers but it was great! We got to meet new people. read more

Decided to try this place for the first time. Having grown up in Hawaii, I was excited to go. Checked the hours on Google before going, which said it was open on this Monday and would be until 8 p.m. Arrived at 4:15 pm to find a sign that they close for lunch from 3 to 4:30 daily. Waited until 4:45 and still had not reopened. I like to try to support local businesses when possible - but businesses with this behavior make me appreciate the consistency of chains. I cannot understand why a restaurant would need to close to take a lunch, or why a business owner serving food would be so adamant to remove this time frame from the business. Also, being so late to reopen reflects extremely poorly. I clearly cannot even count on them to be there when they say they will be - how could I possibly have confidence that they are also aware of and practicing proper food preparation and handling practices? I'll pass on this local business. read more
