This place is my jam! Everything I've ordered from here so far, has been above expectations. These are all take out reviews so I cannot say how the service is if you're eating there. I love how they give you chips and salsa with every meal. I love how they give you fresh tortillas when you're ordering platillos. Easily missed and overlooked, El Amigo is the bomb eatery located on the corner of Firmona and Manhattan Beach Blvd. The parking's limited in their lot, but there's plenty of street parking. My wife has always gotten their chicken burrito wet/enchilada style, and I've gotten their pork chile verde. They don't mess around when it comes to portion size - easily 2 meals per entree order. While I've had better chile verde elsewhere, this is still a solid offering. My suggestion is to call it in, pop off the car, run in, pick it up, and enjoy it in the car or at home as, as aforementioned, parking could be an issue and seating is often limited. They're food has a freshness to it, and their sauces are a step above most. So, we're already starting out on a high note. Tonight, I decided to try the pork chops. I knew I was taking a risk because bad, overcooked, dry pork chops are not really edible. BUT, El Amigo's pork chops are amazing! They were cooked PERFECTLY...bone in! Driven by this place for years, but never went in until today. My son called me up said "Dad you eat lunch yet?" "No" I said. "Where you want to go?" He said. I said, "Where you at?" Looking for dinner, I saw this place on Yelp a couple times been wanting to try so today I did, As my fellow yelper said in previous reviews this place is small found parking right away however it wasn't busy, Now what I didnt know is that was you enter the building you walk into the patio area in nobody was out there, than another door which when I look inside looks like the cook area(I was confused because there no signs saying enter this door to order)it wasnt until another customer showed up enter that second door what I thought was the kitchen. So I figure it out after that. So I go in there a small kitchen where about 4 employee's work their a register where you order in the cooks behind that, than to your right as you walk in their booths maybe 5 or 6 booths for if you want to dine in.... Ok the food, I read alot about the carnitas here on yelp, how good they were so I got the 3 taco plate with rice in beans and ask if I could choose different tacos he said yes I try of course the carnitas, al pastor and asada, each taco was delicious however I could of just order the tacos beans were too salty in a little on the thick side for me..Yuck! The rice was ok but didnt really eat it at this point Im full, Oh I did order a side of guacamole a little water down, not worth the $3 that it cost but they get 4 stars because of the flavor and quality of the tacos and they were stuff with plenty of meat, If I go back it would be for the tacos. read more

I placed a pick up order using Grubhub and was excited to try out a Mexican eatery that had 4 plus star reviews here on Yelp. When I drove up this was a tiny whole in the wall place with a well appointed patio like area with tables in one area then you can open the bar gate to enter the indoor area to place and pick up orders. I walked up to the counter and requested my order, mojarra frita (fried fish) plate with refried beans and rice and 2 chicken soft tacos. Customer service and the food was mediocre and highly lackluster. I'm left scratching my head trying to figure out how this place received 4 plus star reviews. The fried fish was disappointing. It was unevenly seasoned with very salty areas and bland underwhelming seasoning on other parts. I've tasted much better mojarra frita at other restaurants that take the time to use herbs and spices that elevate the flavor of the fish. The rice and beans were typical, definitely nothing to write home about. For the life of me I don't understand how you put a whole hot fried fish on top of lettuce, tomato, and guacamole. My so called salad was wilted and brown from the hot fish. Folks, spend a little money and more thought on better take out packaging.I guarantee your customers will appreciate it. The best thing I received were the chicken tacos. The tacos had big solid pieces of chicken but was difficult to bite into without ripping the taco apart. Just a suggestion, maybe you can try fork pulling the chicken apart in smaller shreds to make the tacos easier to eat. Otherwise, the tacos were decent. The chips seemed a bit stale but the salsa was pretty good. Great little "hole in the wall". Order at the counter. Server will bring chips & salsa to your table. Self-serve drinks. Your delicious food will be brought to your table. Came for lunch and we ordered the nachos with chicken and the 3 taco combo plate also with chicken. Large portions, great presentation, and tasty food. Prices very reasonable. Nice menu selection. The parking lot is small, but most people order to go, so you shouldn't have to wait long for a space to open up. There's seating in the patio area and inside as well. Servers are super friendly. Astonished at the 4.5 stars. The carne asada I got was 1. Tough because it was not marinated, but just sprinkled with something like Lawry's seasoned salt. Who knows? 2. Not skirt steak or any cut of meat I know. Riddled with fat and gristle. Imagine prison meat. The salsa and refried beans were both more flavorful than the usual restaurant, hence the extra star. read more

This is a really good Mexican joint if you and your friends are craving Mexican food. I recommend the chicken fajitas there bomb.

I bought the Carne Asada wet burrito. It was on the salty side. I would suggest cooks lay-off adding too much seasoning.

Loved that #3 opened by our house. The shredded beef is amazing. Actually nothing is bad. Our go-tos are carnitas flautas, shredded beef crunchy taco/ enchilada combo and the carne asada burrito and tacos. If you liked El Indios chips they are the same. Very nice people and yummy food. read more

This is a cute little place with seating inside and a small outside seating area in the front We had my father-in-laws Birthday dinner here and I'm sure they are not used to having to serve 45 people at one time... but they did a great job !! This place doesn't really stand out when you pass it on the street but I would say it's worth a visit. The staff was nice and the food was okay, but I found the flavors to be lacking a bit. The carne asada just didn't taste very well seasoned whereas the chicken was pretty good. Overall I think their Tortas could improve perhaps in what kind of toppings they offer. Maybe it's because I ordered on yelp, but they charged extra for the cheese ($1.50) and I didn't end up having any in my torta (I double checked). Either that or they didn't put enough cheese for me to notice. Another note: I arrived probably around 3 minutes after I got a notice that my food was ready and when I walked up the cashier looked startled and started talking to his coworkers who replied to him in Spanish saying that they'd already given my order to a door dash courier. So the cashier ran out to catch the courier before he left and I overheard his coworkers saying that the DD order had barely been received as if to say they should've all known better than to give away my order. The courier came back and returned the food which they then handed to me. Look, as someone who works in the food service industry I understand mistakes happen and I also understand that couriers don't actually touch the food as they're a delivery service. However, it is generally bad practice to take food from one person and hand it off to another. Such a hidden gem here in the South Bay area. Parking is super limited but we live nearby so we just go walking over. My favorite has to be the tacos here. They are pretty big for a standard taco. The Lengua and Asada are the go to's. Plates are really well served and the location has gotten some major updates in recent years. My lady likes ordering the chile relleno, pretty bomb. I recommend ordering ahead as it can get pretty busy here. The staff is really cool as well. Just know what you want. read more
