Heyo quality chicken lovers! I thought this place was outstanding!…read more From the start, I had high expectations for this joint. The exterior of the building is beautiful, decked out in a beautiful blue paint with pink roses (later discovered, to honor the Mrs Queen Beulah herself. We came here on a whim, after no more clucks could be given; the other food options in that area were either a long wait, or about to close. So after rumbling tummies, no clucks were given and we headed to Beulah's. I ordered a chicken Sammie, some fries and a Coca-Cola since I'm just a classic cluck, and it was all fantastic... some might say, im-peck-able! This place was way better than the popular Chicken chain with the cows (you know the one). It was clean, quick and tasty. The breading at Beulah's was perfectly seasoned and crisped, thick in all the right places, and the chicken quality was bawking fantastic - juicy, moist and there were no weird tidbits of chicken junk in there, which was very much appreciated. The fries were just the right thickened, seasoned and fried to perfection. After eating, my tummy was stuffed like a turkey on Thanksgiving by the end of my meal. But I can't forget about the signature sauce, which was also yummy, similar to that of a Canes or Chick-fil-A. Just the right balance of tangy, sweet, salty, savory - they nailed it! They also had various dessert options including cookies and icecream. It was all phenomenal! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I was clucking all the way home, expressin how much I enjoyed it to the gal pals. Plus, reading Beulah's story and family history that was framed on the wall, by our table, brought a shedding tear to my eye, just like when I watch jeopardy every night. I mean who doesn't cry at jeopardy. Buyer beware: Restaurant space inside is limited, bawk (but), they have a covered patio with plenty of seats, and here it seems more of a grab n go place anyways. Parking was fairly close and accessible too. I regret to inform I didn't have the opportunity to check out the restrooms, but I'm sure they were of fine suit. Conclusion: I would most certainly come back, in the instant I'm back in town. I love chickens and I love eating them more.

Don't let the random location fool you; HA Pigsmith's is busting out some mean eats, with hefty portions and affordable prices. How it works: Follow @so_science on Instagram, and they'll post the week's menu over the weekend. The themes vary every week, so keep an eye on it! You have until midnight on Tuesday to email them with your order. On Wednesday morning, you get an email with payment and pick-up details, and then you swing by the back of the church between 4 and 7 PM on Wednesday to pick up your goods! Pretty easy process, especially if you live close by. So far we've gotten dishes from their BBQ menu (brisket, bbq beans, cheese and mac) and their Greek menu (moussaka with side Greek salad, gyro with fries). Everything is restaurant quality. Let me rephrase: everything is excellent restaurant quality! Like what I would expect if I went to a BBQ joint or Greek spot that specialize in that type of cuisine. Pretty incredible. We originally found out about HA's from a neighbor, and I added this business page to Yelp to be able to share my photos and experiences to help spread the word about this awesome local spot!

Flights from Guatemala would arrive, and passengers would walk off the plane carrying bags of Pollo Campero. The aroma was unforgettable. Ever since then, I've been curious about what made this chicken so special. Fast forward to Charlotte, and now I finally understand the hype. I stopped in for a quick lunch and ordered the four-piece roasted chicken meal with sweet plantains, coleslaw, and a roll. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The chicken was juicy and packed with spices that set it apart from your typical fast-food chicken chain. It's hard to explain until you try it, but the seasoning has a distinctive flavor that makes Pollo Campero uniquely its own. The sweet plantains were excellent. Soft, caramelized, and sweet with those slightly crispy edges that make plantains so addictive. The coleslaw was cold, creamy, and crunchy, which paired perfectly with the chicken. The service was friendly, the value was excellent, and my order was accurate. I always take a moment to check my order before leaving the drive-thru, and everything was exactly right. If your fried chicken experience begins and ends with KFC, Bojangles, or Church's, give Pollo Campero a try. It's a delicious taste of Guatemala and a reminder that great chicken comes in many forms. Life is too short not to eat well, Charlotte.

Several excellent local restaurants, too. So I had high hopes today for Pollo Campero. PC was clean when I arrived at 12:30. Quite busy with about a third of the tables in use and the remaining were clear of dirty dishes. Surprising because they don't have a trash can that I could see - the staff bus and clean tables, clearing them swiftly. I ordered a three piece at the counter and it didn't take long until a running found my tent card and I was able to start. The chicken was thoroughly cooked, still moist. Not much for flavor in the skin today, it needed some hot sauce to bring out the taste. The cole slaw was creamy and crisp. Still good but also a little bland. The small dinner roll wrapped in plastic was fresh and fluffy. Overall, it's a nice little fast food spot. If you're looking for something in a known quantity along South Boulevard near the light rail, this will work nicely. [Review 728 of 2025 - 4162 in North Carolina - 24288 overall]

That concerned me a little bit, but not enough to cause me to turn around and walk out. I also noticed it wasn't the cleanest place, but that doesn't mean the food isn't good. I'm not sure if it's because the restaurant's been there for years and it's just aged, but it didn't appear clean. Where there was carpet, it was worn and matted. The bathroom was totally disgusting and looked and smelled like it hadn't been cleaned since my mother was in elementary school, and she's now 78 years old. The young lady who took my order was very pleasant and engaging. I enjoyed speaking with her about the menu items. She was very honest about certain things when it came to how different items tasted that I inquired about, and I appreciated her for that. I wound up ordering the fried whiting and double collard greens for my two sides. I didn't have to wait long, of course, because nobody else was in there. While I was waiting for my food, only three people came in for takeout. I arrived home and started diving into the food. The collard greens were bland and obviously out of a can. I had to doctor them up with some seasonings and vinegar. The supposed to be "chicken wings" (wing dings) wasn't seasoned like I'm used to chicken being seasoned. It was too bland. The hush puppies were disgusting, but the french fries were good. The fried whiting was, to my surprise, flavorful. I enjoyed that. The fried shrimp was savory as well, and I enjoyed that. They were on the small side, but good nonetheless. The only thing is the food wasn't good enough for me ever to want to return, so it's a NOT AGAIN for me.

It's been…read morein the same spot on Montford since I moved here decades ago and the owners haven't bothered updating the inside. It's clean but plain, with some old tables and chairs inside and on the sparse patio. But you aren't paying for ambiance. For that, go elsewhere. But if you want hearty food at a good price, The Roasting Company is your place. My favorite forever was either the chicken jaco or the chicken and queso, both served on rice that I then mix with a healthy side of steamed spinach. Then I discovered the Thursday chicken and dumplings, which is what I had today and why I am finally letting you all in on where to get excellent chicken and dumplings if Dish (off Central) is too far away. Like everything we've ordered at Roasting Company, the serving is generous and stick-to-your-ribs delicious. Don't let the size fool you, if you're going for takeout; that 16oz container is filled to the brim with a thick mix of tender shredded chicken, dumpling noodles and a dense, flavorful sauce. Mind you, all the chicken and sides I've tried there are good to excellent (except I didn't really care for the smoked cheese and pasta salad). My husband swore by the chicharrons and the chips and queso or guacamole are solid sides. So if you happen by there after the chicken and dumplings has sold out - which happens pretty much every Thursday - or it's another day of the week, you can't miss with their regular menu or their other specials. So many of our older Charlotte favorites have gone out of business or the owners retired. Heed my advice and try The Roasting Company. Long may it serve us delicious food!

The salads were pretty good but what threw me was I didn't order black beans - I ordered bean salad. Don't get me wrong. I think the black beans were perfectly seasoned for me, and they arrived hot, hate them with the seasoned rice (perfect complement). But I was expecting a cold bean salad. Smoked pasta salad was pretty good I honestly liked the flavor believe it or not and texture was good. Same with the potato salad, I enjoyed the cubed potato salad. I liked the coleslaw. It was to my texture and taste. For me? The pork belly tacos were "eh"- agreed that it absolutely could be a personal preference - which? Makes sense since I ordered it, I'm eating it lol! Spicy, very sweet and portion was OK. I think? Next time I would like to try something else - interested to hear what anyone else thinks of the pork belly tacos. Seasoned rice was good. I purposely got it because I wanted it to go with the beans. Last but at least, was the pork, I wish they had drained it and that it wasn't so wet (water/oil)? But? I did enjoy it. Good flavor, tender, mild enough when I drained it, I made sandwiches with my own dressing, etc. Next time I would like to try their chicken and see if that is tender and flavorful, but I like that everything was a good even flavor and seasoned perfectly other than the pork belly for me.

This was a critical mistake, as their entire system relies on notifying customers when food is ready. I was originally told the wait time would be about 30 minutes. I returned after nearly 50 minutes, only to find that my food still wasn't ready. After waiting even longer, I eventually learned that the delay was due to my number being entered incorrectly, meaning I never received any notification that my food was ready--or possibly even completed. What should have been a quick stop for food at 5:20 PM turned into a nearly 2.5-hour ordeal, with us not receiving our food until around 7:50 PM. To make matters worse, when we asked about the delay, we were told the wait was an hour--contradicting the original 30-minute estimate. To top it off, the food itself was disappointing. The rice and noodles were hard, as if they were either undercooked or improperly cooked on the grill. The shrimp were the only part of the meal that actually tasted good. This entire situation could have easily been avoided if the staff had simply confirmed my contact information properly. When your system depends on accurate phone numbers, it's essential to double or even triple check that information with customers. Very disappointing experience overall.
