This place is a gem for authentic tacos. Inside a little latin grocery store. That's how you know they're real. Lots of options, with lots of different fillings. Natural juices that's basically 2L bottle. (It's not, but you get it) I had the quesabirria that's done on the weekends, and one taco and a fermented pineapple with spices juice. I was invited to check out a behind-the-scenes tour of the kitchen at El Rinconcito Chilango, and let me tell you, this place is doing things right. You start by ordering at the counter inside Rodriguez Supermarket. That's where I met Alex, who walked me through the menu, answered all my questions, and helped make sure my order was exactly how I wanted it. I threw a little Spanglish at him, and he didn't flinch. Just smiled, helped me out, and made the whole process smooth. Once your order's in, head to the room next door where the taqueria lives. There's limited counter seating, so you might need to wait or take your food to go. While you're at it, browse the market for some unique Spanish groceries. There's a full butcher counter in the back too if you want to bring home something to cook later. When I visited, it was packed. I'm talking full-on, no-empty-stool energy. And even with the crowd, Alex stayed patient and welcoming. The kind of service that sticks with you. I went with the fried chicken cutlet torta with beans, avocado, Oaxaca cheese, lettuce, and mayo. I skipped the pineapple and tomato because I like my tortas focused. This sandwich came out looking like it could bench press most sandwiches in town. Hot, crispy chicken layered between toasted, soft bolillo with just the right amount of texture and flavor. It was a four-napkin situation and completely worth it. Behind the scenes: I got to step inside the kitchen and watch Marco do his thing. He's the man behind the grill and works with the kind of focus that makes you stop and just appreciate the craft. Tortillas are pressed to order. Meat is grilled to order. Every dish is built from scratch with speed and intention. If you see Marco, tell him Evan the Charlotte Foodie Guy sent you. He'll probably smile and keep moving, but he'll know you're in good hands. Did I try the salsas? No. I like being able to feel my face. But they're all made in-house and come in little plastic pouches that look like hot sauce Capri Suns. Not resealable, so once you commit, you're in. Everything is cooked to order, so expect a bit of a wait. But this is the kind of food that makes you rethink settling for fast food. If you go on a Sunday, don't miss the chilaquiles. They're only available once a week and absolutely worth it. Parking is free, but can be a bit hectic. Feels like part of the experience. Amazing location that you wouldn't find anywhere else. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and explaining the recipes and the menu for me. I got a Tepache and they actually gave me a sample of their own homemade Tepache. Be sure to order that the food was excellent, delicious authentic. read more

We came here yesterday and had to come back today. The tacos are amazing. Today we tried some new stuff. The picada, huarache, and a Cuban torta (sandwich). Everything was amazing. This place is a hidden gem and I will recommend it always. This place is located next to a Mexican store. You order at the cash register and then wait around for it inside the food store. You can eat there if you'd like but seating is very limited since the food area is also small. They have authentic Mexican dishes such a huitlacoche, or corn smut. Flor de calabaza, or pumpkin flower. They also have the blue corn tortillas. They sell everything from tacos, to quesadillas, tortas,etc. Meat portions are very generous and the quesadillas and tortas are big. My order was fast, hot and fresh. They include a sauteed jalapeño, grilled onions and two packages of salsa, with limes, onions and cilantro. TIP: Menudo is available on the weekends. El Rinconcito Chilango is true to its name as being a little taste of local,authentic Mexican food. The style is typical of Street food in DF (Mexico City) with large portions, delicious flavors, and the feel of a local small restaurant. If you don't speak Spanish, don't be intimidated to try here. Everyone is kind and helpful with recommendations. Grab the drink of your choice from the coolers in the grocery store side, order your food and pay at the register, and then go to the adjacent room where you can watch the people cook your delicious food. It's standing room or stools but people rotate in and out quickly so you don't have to wait long for a place to perch as you eat your food. GEM!!!!!! Finally, I decided to try this place put after my sister kept raving about it. Went on a Wednesday during lunch hours. It was fairly empty when I arrived, BUT as soon as I placed my order, though, everyone started arriving. You enter through the supermarket portion, and you actually order at the cashier in the store portion instead of the actual taqueria. Now I will say, this is a little pricey, but honestly, what isn't expensive at this point. I ordered a Carne Asada quesadilla ($8), 2 Cecina tacos ($3 each), and then a pineapple agua Fresca (8). If you order specialty tacos (Celina, tripa, etc), you HAVE to order 2 tacos. Not just one, which I thought was weird and hated it, but oh well. I will say, though, the food makes up for the price and any kinks this place may have! It was all so delicious!!!!! Omg it def hit my craving. It was all very well marinated, and the quesadilla was huge! Definitely great portions, and they don't skimp you on meat at all. The area this place is located is VERY sketchy. We were visiting CLT and did not realize until we arrived the area wasn't the best. We ordered tacos al pastor which were good. The tacos are delicious. I ordered three tacos. One pollo, one barbocoa, and one al pastor. I asked for all the fixings. The tacos came with a side of a vegetable and long hot. Those were incredibly tacos. The tacos were extremely flavorful. The meat was tender and tasted fresh. The flavors were awesome. This place is a hidden gem. This business is listed on DoorDash and Google as Rodrigues Supermarket, so I left the identical review there as well. This place has the best tacos I have ever had in Charlotte, period. I grew up in Texas, near the border and have eaten Mexican and Tex-Mex food as far back as I can remember, so I'm always looking for Mexican food that is "just right" - this place is it. I've had most every kind of taco made here over the years, looking for the best, and I'm happy to say these are, in my opinion, the ones. If you haven't tried their tacos, please do and see how they compare to your favorites. I am guessing this is the same business that's called "Rodriguez Supermarket" on DoorDash, since it has the same address. I've ordered from here three times and have been very satisfied every time. Their food is super-flavorful and spicy, and they have a lot of dishes that are hard to find elsewhere in town, like tlacoyos and picadas. The DoorDash menu is entirely in Spanish, so it may be necessary to Google some of the dishes if one doesn't know what they are. read more
