How have I not reviewed this place yet. It had been years since I actually dined in, but we made it…read morein this time. We waited for a bit & I think our name was skipped a few times. I finally went up to someone as she was looking at the clipboard & asked. She apologized & we went right in. Had to get the drymein of course & the French fries. Nothing changed, dry mein is always nothing short of good. A good amount meat & some soup to add in if you would like. Mine miraculously came without bean sprouts which was great as I forgot to ask. Service was great & coming here is always so nostalgic. Till next time.

Sam Sato's still gives the feels!…read more I haven't been home to Maui in years, and one of the first places I wanted to eat on my list was from my childhood - Sam Sato's! We made sure to pay a visit on our first free lunch day! Of course, coming during the lunch rush we had to wait for maybe 20 minutes outside before getting a table for 4. Longest 20 minutes of my life LOL! Paid off though when we finally got seated! Ordered the usual suspects: -Dry Noodles (Dry Mein) ($18.95) - DOUBLE sized for 2! Or one Hungry Hawaiian HA! -Cheeseburger Deluxe ($5.95) -French Fries with Mustard/Mayo ($5.95) -BBQ Stick (Beef and Chicken) ($3.75 each) -Manju ($1.25 each) -Turnovers ($1.85 each) I was so hungry I forgot pics of half my order! Shared the Dry Noodles with my Mom but honestly I ate 75% of that double order LOL! Just as awesome as I remember - just needed a dash of the soup, splash of shoyu, dab of Tabasco, and a lot of cracked black pepper! Ugh, so ONO! The Cheeseburger Deluxe and French Fries were honestly not gourmet, but the nostalgia factor brings it up a notch for me. Don't forget to dip into their Mustard/Mayo mix, it's a game changer! The BBQ Sticks were a little overdone this time but I'll let it slide because I do love that char on the edges. And you can't leave without having a manju and turnover (or 2....of each LOL) for dessert! Not much has changed at Sam Sato's over the decades (except maybe the prices, they went up!) and that's the way we like it! Old schoo for an old foo like ME!

Total came to $31.25 (cash only) Eating this plate was like eating a home cooked meal. Nothing outside of the norm, but just a solid, well flavored and balanced plate of deliciousness. You can tell these are tried and true recipes. Will be back when we're in the mood for authentic Puerto Rican food. Hopefully they will expand to more days of the week for pick up.

And while I have yet to step foot inside, I got a chance to try something from a co-worker's takeout that I'm definitely going back for! MENU: Puerto Rican Plate Lunch (pastele, gandule rice, bacalao salad, empanadillas, Portuguese sausage & dessert), or broken down into ala carte, box and pan-sized options. FOOD: Empanadillas I absolutely love meat turnovers. Empanadas, empanadillas... What's the difference between the two? Nothing really, except for the fact that in Puerto Rico, empanadas are referred to as breaded steak or chicken and empanadillas are meat turnovers. Other areas of Spanish-speaking folk call meat turnovers, empanadas. Whatever. All you need to know is that if you like either name, you're going to absolutely LOVE these. It is a well-known fact to friends that I don't care for pastele anything due to its odd and weak flavor. I've had a version from another Maui establishment as a stew and didn't care for it. So when I was offered a pastele-filled empanadilla, I grimaced at the opportunity but was all smiles and moans after devouring it! The warm dough was thick like a pie crust and insanely soft, flaky and buttery. Once you get past that delicious shell, the pastele filling bursts your tastebuds with mouth-watering, savory, tomatoey flavors that takes these bad boys over the edge! OMG. One was definitely not enough. TIP: They're a takeout only biz with odd hours and ordering procedures. Definitely call ahead. OVERALL: They're right up there with the best empanadas we had in Buenos Aires, Argentina!

The parking lot is a bit tight upon arrival, but you can definitely drive around the back and check for availability there. I was pleased to find the line wasn't outside the door. It was pretty busy inside, for good reason. Their pastries and food options looked spectacular. As I observed seated customers, everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves and their treats. I was a little disappointed to see the pump bottles of syrup by the bar, as I would've loved to try a house made syrup. But nonetheless, I ordered a cortado with coconut milk and Mac nut flavoring. It was much smaller than I was used to from ordering cortados at other shops, but it was perfect. I wish I took a photo. Since I stopped by before returning my rental car in the afternoon, there wasn't that much of a wide variety of pastries left. However I was able to snag an Ube croissant. I saved it on my flight and ate it at home the following day. It remained super soft and fresh. The ube filling was light yet flavorful without being too sweet. The color was gorgeous. I'm not sure if you'll understand, but the croissant was flakey but not dry. It was airy, but still bready and full. It was hugeeee!! I'd compare it to half the size of my forearm lol. I only waited about 10 mins from entry to exit. After trying this shop, I would gladly wait outside on the steps if I had to. Can't wait to return and try some new items!!

Thank you for the great variety of musubi, pork hash, sushi, ice cream and manapua. Only other great place for musubi is Foodland, but 7-11s variety is better. I don't touch musubi from anywhere else, because they don't compare, and turns out to be a waste of money and expectations. 7-11 does it just right. The employees here are always busy ringing people up and are very kind. Sometimes I wish they didn't have to deal with some of the knuckleheads that hang around outside the store. Yooo, saw a grilled cheese sandwich and I was ALL over it. For real, real…read more They randomly popped into my head one morning and I was pleased to see they were open. Peeked their Instagram and saw a corned beef and egg grilled cheese sandwich. Say what? Less than 5 minutes later I was texting my order in. Unfortunately, no one actually ever answered my text (please don't tell people to text if you don't reply). Being impatient, I said screw it and just drove myself there to check. They are located in Kahului Industrial in the Ferguson's parking lot, across the way from Lee Bear's. It's a really, really random spot and parking could be a challenge if it gets busy. If it's slow, you could park right in front of the trailer. The family that runs this food trailer is born and raised in Guam and their menu features Chamorro cuisine like arrozcaldo, corn soup, etc. It didn't seem like it to me at first because everything was so so familiar to me, but my friend who was raised in Guam reminded me of how it's heavily Filipino influenced and mentioned that the grilled cheese sandwich was her childhood growing-up. No wonder (I'm Filipino)... Anywho, got my corned beef and egg grilled cheese sandwich! The corned beef isn't like your St. Patty's day corned beef, but more like the Palm brand canned corned beef. The bread was also slightly sweet and was the perfect vessel for all this deliciousness. The sandwich was so tasty and had the perfect amount of meat and cheese. Definitely a great way to start my morning and can't wait to have it again. My friend also recommended trying their corn soup & their red rice whenever it's available. Will definitely try those in the future too.
