I was a little hesitant because I didn't look up reviews and being so far from the Caribbean was a hint a caution. But let me tell you what, this truck delivered. Abiki was such a kind, generous woman. Her aura was matched by the food. I opted for the special of chicken curry. The chicken included two very large drums, a thigh and several small potatoes. I chose the rice and beans as the side component. The spice was perfectly balanced. Just enough to be present, but not overpowering for a standard guest. I'm obsessed with spice, so it was fortunate that the plate came with a small cup of a fantastic sauce. It seemed to be more habanero driven, but I cannot be too sure of that. The chicken was absolute perfection. The potatoes fell apart as I chewed them and I think I'm going to dream about them for many years. I don't know if I'll ever get a chance to try this place again, but I sincerely hope so. It is tough to find a mix of food and person as lovely as this location has.

Quite possibly one of the most underrated food trucks. Don't sleep on this one folks!…read more AbiKi's is one of the few Caribbean food options on the island and I think the only option in Kihei. They've got that hot and spicy Caribbean flavor infused into dishes like empanadas, nachos, curry and oxtail stew (available on Fridays and Saturdays only), and more. My husband spontaneously ordered the chimichurri burger one day and while I didn't know what to expect at first, man that burger was mighty delicious! The beef patty is topped with chimichurri sauce and paired with lettuce, tomato, grilled onion, cheddar cheese, chimichurri aoili on a brioche bun. It's burger heaven! Flavorful and moist, it was devoured in no time. It also comes with sweet potato fries and a side of sauce. I don't know if the sauce is for the fries or the burger, but it pairs extremely well with both. Just give your burger a little dip -- SO good. All in all, this burger ranks pretty highly in my list of tasty burgers. We'll definitely be back again to try their other Carribean dishes!

Located in old town Wailuku.. the area looks more commercial than residential, but tucked in the street is this cute restaurant. It's nothing fancy, but they sure do serve up a good meal! I feel like I've been missing out all these years.. the dry noodles and beef stick were perfection! The cha shu topping on the eggy noodles, such a good combo. The beef stick was tender and flavorful. The complimentary soup balanced all the flavors... and I wrapped up my meal with a Lima bean manju. Nice and buttery exterior paired perfectly with the Lima bean filling. I really liked that the bean paste wasn't too sweets All in all loved this place and will be back! Staff super friendly, food comes out fast and it's sooo ono - what's not to love? I will add I order a small dry noodles and had extra so took left overs to go and made a sunny side egg and put it on top of my reheated noodles. Winner of a meal!

I would order these again in a heartbeat! 5/5! Cons- I preordered a medium pan of dry noodles with veg. I was expecting some kind of vegetable in the noodles. I'm allergic to bean sprouts, so asked they not be used in the dish, but I thought carrots, yellow onions, something... nope, it was just noodles and green onions! No meat either, which surprised me. I ordered what I thought was their deluxe dry, but it was super plain. That was disappointing for sure. I would not order this again. Parking is also crazy tight and limited. Luckily I dropped my son off and drove around the block. If I actually had to park, not sure what I would have done.

And while I have yet to step foot inside, I got a chance to try something from a co-worker's takeout that I'm definitely going back for! MENU: Puerto Rican Plate Lunch (pastele, gandule rice, bacalao salad, empanadillas, Portuguese sausage & dessert), or broken down into ala carte, box and pan-sized options. FOOD: Empanadillas I absolutely love meat turnovers. Empanadas, empanadillas... What's the difference between the two? Nothing really, except for the fact that in Puerto Rico, empanadas are referred to as breaded steak or chicken and empanadillas are meat turnovers. Other areas of Spanish-speaking folk call meat turnovers, empanadas. Whatever. All you need to know is that if you like either name, you're going to absolutely LOVE these. It is a well-known fact to friends that I don't care for pastele anything due to its odd and weak flavor. I've had a version from another Maui establishment as a stew and didn't care for it. So when I was offered a pastele-filled empanadilla, I grimaced at the opportunity but was all smiles and moans after devouring it! The warm dough was thick like a pie crust and insanely soft, flaky and buttery. Once you get past that delicious shell, the pastele filling bursts your tastebuds with mouth-watering, savory, tomatoey flavors that takes these bad boys over the edge! OMG. One was definitely not enough. TIP: They're a takeout only biz with odd hours and ordering procedures. Definitely call ahead. OVERALL: They're right up there with the best empanadas we had in Buenos Aires, Argentina!

Bento boxes, musubi in every flavor you can think of (spam, ham, hot dog, chicken, my fave jumbo mochiko chicken), sushi, pork hash, manapua, plus your standard hot dog and burger setup for when you're not feeling adventurous. Pork hash is my go to, no question. Lup cheong manapua is a close second. I'll admit the char siu manapua has fallen off though. Used to be solid, now the filling comes out mushy and kind of flavorless. Feels like a recipe change somewhere down the line, and not for the better. Hoping they bring the old version back. Beyond the hot food, they've got a good lineup of local snacks too. Li hing mui gummies, li hing powder, mochi crunch, the works. Throw in f'real shakes, magazines, and a few toys for keiki, and it's honestly a solid last stop before the airport if you need snacks and something to keep the kids occupied on the flight home. Only thing holding this spot back is the crowd after dark or occasional homeless (never bothered me, but might for some) One more thing worth mentioning: they do catering too, with a few platter options at prices that make sense. Good to keep in your back pocket for last minute gatherings.

Peeked their Instagram and saw a corned beef and egg grilled cheese sandwich. Say what? Less than 5 minutes later I was texting my order in. Unfortunately, no one actually ever answered my text (please don't tell people to text if you don't reply). Being impatient, I said screw it and just drove myself there to check. They are located in Kahului Industrial in the Ferguson's parking lot, across the way from Lee Bear's. It's a really, really random spot and parking could be a challenge if it gets busy. If it's slow, you could park right in front of the trailer. The family that runs this food trailer is born and raised in Guam and their menu features Chamorro cuisine like arrozcaldo, corn soup, etc. It didn't seem like it to me at first because everything was so so familiar to me, but my friend who was raised in Guam reminded me of how it's heavily Filipino influenced and mentioned that the grilled cheese sandwich was her childhood growing-up. No wonder (I'm Filipino)... Anywho, got my corned beef and egg grilled cheese sandwich! The corned beef isn't like your St. Patty's day corned beef, but more like the Palm brand canned corned beef. The bread was also slightly sweet and was the perfect vessel for all this deliciousness. The sandwich was so tasty and had the perfect amount of meat and cheese. Definitely a great way to start my morning and can't wait to have it again. My friend also recommended trying their corn soup & their red rice whenever it's available. Will definitely try those in the future too.
