Potato and egg taco
Jasmine P.

Stopped in on a whim while I was around doing other things. Got two breakfast tacos--one potato and egg and one bacon and egg. Both were delicious, but I did have to add salt. No big deal. Salsa was delish. One thing worthy of noting for feedback is the potato and egg taco was STUFFED and amazing, but the bacon and egg was kinda scrawny in comparison. Just something to note for consistency purposes. Great, friendly, and incredibly fast service. $6 for two breakfast tacos is pretty standard in Austin. Would def come back and try some lunch/dinner items. With Selena on the wall, how could I not?

Menudo

I had the menudo, it was very flavorful, had plenty of tripe and hominy. The small was plenty enough to fill me. There was also a group singing live for everyone which provides an authentic experience. Really like this place and will come back!

Menudo with Pata de Res

The Menudo was delicious, one of the best I've had here in Austin. If you like some extra collagen goodness you can add the Pata de Res. (beef foot)

Started eating my chilaquiles verdes when I took this pics so good!

When we come to El Borrego de Oro, we usually come for breakfast. I brought my sister and parents here since my parents were in town and prefer a Mexican breakfast. I ordered the green chilaquiles with two over easy eggs, sour cream, and a side of beans. They were so delicious and filling. This is my go-to when I come here. My sister ordered the barbacoa taco and opted for the corn tortilla. The taco was packed in a good way! The corn tortillas are home made - legit! They also have a delicious salsa verde and she added some to her taco. The salsa verde is addicting! My mom ordered the papas a la Mexicana taco and really liked it. She's very picky so the fact that she liked it, says a lot about this place. She opted for a flour tortilla, but those were not home made. My dad ordered the small menudo and it was more than enough for him.

Does anyone know if they accomodate vegetarians?

Of course! Literally every Mexican spot on the planet has vegetarian options

Do they have live mariachi any nights?

I was there at lunch one day recently and a two-man mariachi came in. But I don't know about nights.

Another fun place in Austin! Great Mexican food, great and…read morefast service and the mood here was so cozy and inviting- we really enjoyed our food here. So we were thinking of tacos or Mexican food and my daughter suggested this spot as she had come here with some friends and really enjoyed their sopecitos. I had never had a sopecito! What is that! So we had to try... We were lucky to arrive at the right time (9 pm!) where we got their last table!! Make reservations or something because this is another one of those places that fills up! So- we were taken care of immediately: chips and some very hot salsas were set on the table while we chose. They menu is in QR code format, but we asked and got paper menus as well. Well I got the chicken sopecitos , my daughter got the pork ones and my partner got the meat tacos. Everything was delicious, the food arrived promptly, the portion size was perfect and bountiful and everything was super enjoyable. I really enjoyed trying some New Mexican favorites. Next time I will try some other delicacies since I always get tacos tacos burritos or quesadillas: time for some new items on the menu! Enjoy!

Music was so loud in the back room areas that you could not even have a conversation with others at your table. When I asked to have the music turned down, I was ignored. Dishes were on the pricer side. We won't be back.

Varied menu. Daily special/additions. Everything you might want in an interior Mexican restaurant. Frozen margaritas are world class ... best anywhere! The Miguel platter is a wonderful way to start off. Guacamole is best in town. Tasty lamb chops. Must have black beans! I had the pork chop which is a treat! My wife had crab enchiladas, a special, and said they were delicious (with suiza sauce). Beef dishes were a hit too. Tres leeches and flan were well received and the vanilla ice cream and latte were a great end to a wonderful dining experience.

Too much sauce, and it completely drowned out the taste of the crab. My dad got the ancho relleno San Miguel, and I was so jealous. His dish was absolutely divine, incredibly good. I wish I'd ordered that instead. We tried both the watermelon margarita and the house frozen margarita. The watermelon was delicious, but it came in a small glass with a huge ice cube, so for the price you really don't get much drink. I'd order it again if it came in a bigger glass. The house frozen margarita, though, was delicious and strong, and much better value. For dessert, we had the crepas de cajeta. It was tasty, but it came topped with a generous amount of Nutella, which surprised me since the menu mentions caramel, not Nutella. I'd have preferred the caramel, and I'm guessing they may have run out, which would explain the swap. I just wish they'd mentioned it before serving it, since it changed the dish for me. Overall, a great experience and we will definitely be back.
