The only reason for the 4 is that I think every NM restaurant in this state should offer complimentary chips and salsa!!! The food was very good, the red chile is quite hot, but tasty. The chips and salsa were fresh and delicious. I heard their queso and chips (made with flour tortillas vs corn tortillas) are delicious and we'll be sure to try that next time. The margarita flight was fantastic. The service was perfect. The Spanish rice looks unappetizing because it is put on the plate with a large scooper. Decided to try a new place for what I thought was brunch. I was mistaken or I just didn't read beyond "Bloody Mary Sundays" I didn't know there was a Bloody Maria. Of course I asked. Maria is made with tequila not vodka. El Bruno doesn't have brunch. They open at 11 and you get the lunch menu. I also discovered that you don't automatically get the chips and salsa unless you're sitting at the bar. Didn't get breakfast type food unless I wanted to add egg to my enchiladas. Red chili was spicy for sure. Couple pieces of fat in the meat. I didn't eat the Spanish rice, scooped on my plate it looked very wet. That was a pass for me. The beans were good as well as the enchiladas. Inside and outside was clean. Back to the Bloody Mary, since that's a big reason for going there. 10 bucks a piece! Seemed a little expensive especially since they advertise it as a deal on Sunday's. They were okay, never tasted the vodka, definitely not worth $10 each, even though I did have two lol. Sad sad sad. So you now are charged $4.95 for chips and salsa. The chips are not large enough. And they are not unlimited. Very disappointing. What is the reason? Staff do not pay attention. Waited and waited for refills. Staff look the other direction or stand in the corner and talk. Actually had to stop the staff they kept walking past to say needed refills. There are maybe 10 customers so can't be that busy. The taste of my enchilada was great!! Wow! So must say the food is very good. We tried El Bruno's in Albuquerque today. We love the location in Cuba New Mexico. Ordered carne adovada Chimichanga Burritos. The meat is excellent. Ordered red chili on the side. We were given a small amount of red chili. Not enough for the whole burrito. Beans were old and dry. The sopapillas were like crackers. It was pricey. I am hoping they can work out these kinks. I have enjoyed the food at Bruno's, very good. The last two times I was there I felt very ignored. I had to refill my own ice tea. The last time we were there, I we sat down and servers walked by is numerous times without acknowledging us. We just sat for 15 minutes until I made the decision to walk out. Stopped in to have lunch today. I like the old Hispanic home feel of this restaurant. Today's dining experience was a big disappointment. The only good part was the service. Riley was new and her first day by herself. She did good. I ordered the tableside guacamole which was very good. Waitress did a good job making it. For lunch I ordered the chile rellenos. The rellenos were almost over cooked so the batter was very crispy boarding burnt. The Spanish rice was terrible! It was mushy and had a whole partially cut tomato which should have been diced. El Bruno's is a yummy little spot for some tasty New Mexican food! Their chips and salsa taste fresh, and I've been on a chile rellenos kick, which is cheesy and battered nicely. My friend's order didn't come out correctly but wasn't a huge deal luckily. The sopapillas come out piping hot at the end of the meal. Service was pretty slow, so we had to flag him down whenever we needed water and chip refills, which took a while to come. read more

We went in for to celebrate a birthday and where not busy. The service was poor we rarely saw the server he did not check on the table. The food took a very long time to come out and other tables who had come in after us were served way before we were served. The food was cold when means is was waiting to be taken out. Hadn't been to El Bruno on 4th since around covid timeframe, yet didn't really miss much... Took over 30 min to place an order. We started with the chicharones, which were not fresh... It was served lukewarm and not crispy... Like day old. We sent back. For entrees we ordered the tequila lime chicken and carne adovada. My chicken was very dry and spinache was very greasy. The carne adovada was tasty, but not one really checked on us. Went last night after not going to the restaurant for 10 years! It was awesome and our waitress was friendly and attentive. Food was a surprise too--we had the spicy shrimp appetizer w/yummy garlic toast (we could come back for that again for sure). My husband had the Pinon creamy chicken dish that didn't disappoint. We forgot to get our sopapillas at the end of the meal because we also shared a flan dessert! We both left happy and very full though. Truly surprised I've never been here before. An absolutely stellar experience with food and service. The chicken chimichanga was nothing short of perfect. Deliciously moist, perfectly cooked and willfully shredded chicken filled the light and delicate seemingly homemade dough. Cooked to a golden brown with impeccable crunch. Hands-down one of the top three chimi's that I've had in my entire life. Served with a right amount of beans and a dollop each of guacamole and sour cream. But let's just stop and talk about their chile. I would put the red chili up by El Comal in Santa Fe, but this green is on a level of its own. I'm hard-pressed to believe that it's hatch because it has more of a Lemitar wholesomeness about it, but wherever they get it from they work absolute magic with it. I bought some jars of it to enjoy until I can return. What I liked best about my visit is that it was 3 PM in the afternoon and the chefs put every bit of care into the meal preparation as if it was a five star VIP showing up at 6 PM. Plating, presentation, perfectly cooked food...but the great experience didn't end here. My waitress was an absolute treasure. Delightful to talk to, had great insight about the menu items, and was a rare fellow New Mexican native. There's just not many of us left. I will be back. I don't know where to start. Authentic, amazing, New Mexican food! The chips and salsa were perfection. The chips were nice and warm, and that salsa! Yum! The only food I didn't care for that I ordered was the appetizer of Chicharrones. It was definitely reheated multiple times. My order of the Carnitas Ala Mex Plate was out of this world. The skirt steak was the most flavorful and tender bites of steak I've had. Now normally, I'm a green chile fan, but I wanted to try both and got Christmas on my enchiladas. Red all day! So much flavor! (And it's the spicier option fyi). Also stole a Sopapilla from my Dad's order of the green chile stew. Perfect sopapillas. All in all, I am in LOVE with the flavors here. But I will be skipping the chicharrones next time. The server was great. And if you can see the decor pictures- there's a huge room in the back for meetings that would be semi-private! we went there to have dinner and a drink. It was during their happy hour, we sat in the bar. There was nothing happy about it. The hostess and every employee we dealt unfriendly and stoic. I ordered chimichanga plate. here is a copy of it from the menu online which is the same as inside the restaurant. "Chimichanga Plate Flour tortilla filled with choice of shredded chicken, shredded beef, carne adovada, a side of Hatch red or green chile. Served with beans, guacamole and sour cream." When we got the bill, there was a five dollar up charge for the carne adovada. this is the second time we were not warned of an up charge in this establishment. My son and I went Saturday 11/18 around noon. We were seated promptly and given drinks along with chips and salsa. That's where the service stopped. They weren't that busy but a bowl of stew and enchiladas took 45 min to receive. We got drink refills about 30 min into it. Overall the food was adequate but stew was meager at best. This place was a lot of fun. I haven't had New Mexican food since my last trip to Albuquerque in 2017 and it was very much overdue. I told my friends that I needed the food and said that we must go to a good restaurant that serves New Mexican food! I was very insistent to them, haha. They happily obliged! You could tell this place was cozy. Definitely a fun and family friendly atmosphere that just felt like you could be going to visit a fun aunt. I had the fajitas with the green chilies. Very good! I'm not going to say it was the best I've ever had but it was very good. Service was very friendly and overall we had a good time. I just had to take away a star because I wasn't completely blown away by the food but I was pleased. I would definitely want to go back and try some other other dishes. El Bruno's is usually a 5-star experience for us. This time I knocked off points for the lack of complimentary chips and salsa. Usually, we are served the chips and salsa when the server first arrives. This time we ordered drinks, got our drinks, ordered our meals, then asked about the chips and salsa. We were informed they are no longer complimentary. We could get some but the cost would be $5. We passed. A huge part of the overall experience at El Bruno's was the complimentary chips and salsa at the beginning. So, even though the food and the service was excellent, I have to knock off two stars due to the disappointment at the very beginning which carried over throughout the entire time we were there. This wasn't the fault of the server and the place was especially empty for a Friday evening so we tipped our usual generous amount figuring she wouldn't make much tonight due to the lack of customers. But, we won't be as anxious to go back in the future. It's too bad, really, because we've been enjoying El Bruno's ever since they took over the location from Garduno's. We went in on a Friday Night. It was a bit busy but not crazy, and we had reservations so we weren't worried about a wait anyway. Luckily our service was good or this would be a 1 star review..... Our waitress was young, but super attentive and was on top of everything our table needed timely. The Rellenos are absolute TRASH. Without a doubt the worst Rellenos I've ever had and I've had a lot! The frozen ones costco used to sell were better than this sad excuse of a relleno, and it isn't close....... I ordered the green chilli on the side so they wouldn't get all soggy right away. Even with the chilli on the side they showed up soggy as a wet sock stuck in a huntin boot all day! Tasted about like a wet sock to! Very Bland and unseasoned. I had to look for the cheese because there was so little of it! Rellenos have 2 ingredients inside...chilli and cheese, and this was basically just soggy breaded chilli. The beans were decent and the rice was pleasantly good. I usually don't expect much for Spanish rice, but this was better than most I'll say. 20 bucks for 2 rellenos that were abysmal and a small bit of beans and rice is wild though. I can go a few miles south and get a relleno for 3 or 4 bucks and it's 10x better than this soggy, bland insult of a relleno. I also tried some bites of a chicken taco and a shredded beef taco(both were also bland and flavorless). My bro was gave me one bite of the stuffed sopa with carne adovada that he got. That was by far the best thing i tried, and if I ever get forced to return here that's what I'll be getting, but I will never choose to return on my own. The salsa at the start was also good. The chips however had more salt than the Atlantic ocean..... Some of them were fine, other's seemed to have been wet first then a pound of salt poured on them so it stuck to them. Odd, but I've never seen so much salt just stuck on a chip before! And it wasn't just one. It was like every 3 or 4 had it. Overall this place won't see my money unless someone else chooses it and we can't get out of going. If you do go here DO NOT be fooled into ordering their rellenos. We like their restaurant in Cuba, New Mexico. Eight months ago, we tried them on 4th Street and were disappointed. The food was so salty you couldn't eat it. They didn't offer much in making it right. We gave them another chance last Thursday. Don't know how they stay in business. The hostess was in a daze and on her cell phone. They weren't very busy, had one server and no help from anyone. We ordered appetizers and drinks and wanted to enjoy the appetizers before we ordered the meal. 45 minutes later we called the server to cash out without ordering the main meal. Delicious, and authentic New Mexican food! We stopped here for a late lunch, and were greeted to an attentive waiter who brought delicious salsa and fresh chips. The ambience has an old western type of vibe. Somewhere that Ansel Adam's would have definitely stopped at. I got the tamale, enchilada, and taco combination plate! The best red and green chile flavor I've had in years! The red is very smoky and just spicy enough to get your nose sweating. The green is very flavorful with a good balance of heat.
