Went by to 1107 candelaria road it's been a while and thought I'd stop by and have me a sopapilla I always get the number 4 with red and for some reason it has changed the patty was so small that the sopapilla was twice the size so ridiculous on what you get for the money you pay also ordered the three taquitos which the filling is only halfway filed in the taquitos I will no longer be a loyal customer just so terrible on how things have changed for one of my favorites since childhood read more

I've been coming here since I was a young girl. Their sopapillas are big and tasty. Get one filled and another plain with honey. Simple place but the service is great and the place is original and functional. Love that they've kept the sign and it's still great after all these years. It never disappoints. Go give it a try then pull over and enjoy. read more

The food was great but when we got home, we realized we got charged for a large tip. they charge you for a tip when you don't even give it! The tip isn't on your receipt when you get it but when your bank lets you know there is a charge, you'll see a larger charge! read more

It's interesting to me that this location has 3 stars yet the drive thru is out to the road and almost every parking spot is filled on a Monday around 11:45. Y'all say you don't like it, but here you are! Ha! And I am here too! Because this fast food Mexican is DELICIOUS! This is obviously not Taco Bell nor is it gourmet but it is tasty. It's unique and it uniquely Albuquerque. In the drive thru there are 2 menu signs, the first is basically just food with no prices, the second where you speak into the speaker has prices. It's reasonable. But to feel full you might need to order more than 1 Stufy. Just in case your reading this and you don't live in Albuquerque a Stufy is a stuffed sopapilla, if you don't know what a sopapilla is - it's like a fried bread pocket that you fill with various ingredients. Friday. August 9, 2024. Lunch. I fondly remember the Stufy's of old. Piping hot, large, fluffy overstuffed sopapillas at very reasonable prices. With all the out-of-control inflation, those cheap prices are long gone. I guess prices are going up so fast, the drive through sign with the printed prices was out of date. Guys, please update your sign. The sign stated the #9- green chile, refried beans, ground beef, lettuce and cheese was $6.97. I paid $7.25. Sign stated #11- green chile, shredded chicken and lettuce was $7.49. I paid $7.79. In addition, the drive through line had about 10 cars ahead of me, spilling out onto Candelaria. I didn't mind that so much, it's a mark of a good restaurant to be that busy. Service seemed fast enough. Sopapillas came out hot. They aren't as fluffy or as stuffed with ingredients as I remembered. Don't get me wrong, they were still tasty, although the green chile could have been a bit hotter. I'm subtracting two stars for the out-of-date menu. It annoyed me. read more

I'd had Stufy's several decades ago, but didn't remember much about how the food was. We were in town for the day, and it sounded like the perfect quick lunch. Not Taco Bell!! Not Taco Cabana!! We wanted something local, better, and well... good!! We decided to give it a go, and were not disappointed. At today's prices, we thought that the prices were pretty good. The stuffed sopaipilla was very very good!! The meat was marinated to perfection and had a great flavor! The only thing that could have been better was more cheese. It seemed like it would be filling, but afterwards, we were like... that wasn't enough. we did not get a plate, just the stuffed sopaipilla. It seems that if we got two of them each, then it would have been quite pricey... but heck it was really really good!! The people working there were quite friendly and helpful - I really wish we had left them a tip!! But we were kind of in a hurry to get on our hours long drive home, it totally slipped us :( But we will definitely be back again when in town! Oh, and btw, this is tons above Taco Bell, lol. You don't have the nasty tasting meat, msg, nasty tasting sauces, etc. This is home grown, home made, fried before your eyes sopaipillas, FRESH food, not that nasty crap. I really like this little restaurant. This is only the 3rd time I've been here and all 3 times have been some great cheap eats! This time I had the gorilla burger and it's huge. It also comes with fries and two cups of chile for dipping. The service was great, friendly and fast! I recommend this place if you are in the area. Two thumbs up from me read more

Put order in for queso chips and combination plate didn't get no cheese on my chips because they said they ran out after I just called and verified they had cheese when I put my order in. I'll tell you what can improve customer service the lady that served us at the drive-through was really rude. We spent $60 there for food that didn't taste good the tostadas looked plain charges for a burger that we didn't order when I asked for my money back and gave her their food, she was very rude. She's like can I have the food back? I almost wanted to tell her give me my money back first but I was being polite. 20 minutes literally they lost four customers that were behind me waiting for their order and when they handed me my food, she laughed told me to never go back $60 was spent she could've put a smile on her face. read more

Abysmally slow like it always is (make sure you don't have to be anywhere and have a full tank of gas) but what's with the lobby at the Candelaria location always being closed. Pandemic has been over for awhile now. And in case nobody got the memo, we are living in 2024 but the drive thru speaker system sounds like it came over on the Mayflower. Maybe upgrade the thing, even a Ring doorbell has better audio quality. And considering the signs outside warning about their camera system I'm sure they could spring for it. The food is great- always delicious. The service is abysmal, especially this last visit. I've ALWAYS called ahead to place an order to go but this time i was told I had to order at the drive-thru... Well I'm hearing impaired and their speaker is for sh*t so I can't understand what they're saying. Not ideal but fine, whatever. So I pull around to the window for assistance only to be told I HAVE TO order at the drive-thru menu station. I park and call them again to explain the issue and am told to pull around to the same window I was dismissed from! So I make a second attempt and a different person comes to the window. I have near-forgotten childhood memories of eating at Stufy's during trips to Albuquerque, in fact, Stufy's stuffed sopapilla may have been the first stuffed sopapilla I ever experienced. I've not been in to try one in nearly 30 years, however, and I find now that I regret all that lost time. We were driving through the North Valley, social-distancing from inside the car, and I remembered that this is one of the few places you can get the stuffed sopapilla I've been craving for months via drive-thru window. Raz had seen the business before but never visited. I ordered the Stufy #1, Raz the Stufy #6, and we both got the Stufy #5 for dessert. The #1 was simple, filling, and true to every illusive memory I have from childhood. The #6 was a tasty concoction I'd never think up myself in a million years and Raz was quite pleased. Neither of us are apple pie-with-cheese people, so while we agreed that all the parts of the #5 were pretty darn tasty, we weren't certain on the overall combination. We will very likely be back now that we've rediscovered this unassuming little gem, and I'm looking forward to trying more of the menu. read more

Stopped by to grab a bite to eat on Friday morning. Greeted by a friendly staff. Ordered the carne adovado stuffed sopapilla. The meat was very flavorful, but the sopapilla was too dense and a little difficult to eat. I want to go back and try some entrees, maybe it'll be a better experience. read more

Stuffy's is great! The #9 is fantastic! 1 is not really enough and 2 is too much! So i recommend 1 stuffed sopa and a taquito or two. The Taquito's are very good as well. Haven't tried much else there because the #9 and taquitos are just so good! read more

Never tried it but always heard that Stufys was so great. Finally tried it today. NEVER AGAIN. Just look at the picture of my so-called guacamole. I paid for a whole pint of garbage. This place is tiny and gets pretty packed for their lunch rush. The food is no-frills New Mexican and is pretty good. I ordered a Gorilla Burger because I wanted cheese, green chile, and all the fixins. That thing is HUGE and it comes with fries. It's really good, but definitely overkill. Next time I'll just add cheese to the regular burger. Their stuffed sopapillas are great--love the carne adovada and that they offer more gringo-y options (like stuffed with hot dogs and hamburgers, etc.). This is way outta the way for me, so I don't go often and it's very heavy food...but it's good if you're looking for something super casual and pretty tasty. We went to order some food got combination plates which were wrong we paid extra for the changes and didn't get them. Then walked back to stuffys and the lobby was closed we were told to walk through the line. I was appalled. As I was watching the kids/workers through the window I noticed none of them had on gloves they been handling everything without gloves so disgusted. We then told each other we will cut our losses even though it was well over 20 bucks because we didn't want the food after witnessing what we saw. I second all the reviews about the carne stuffed sopapillas. I think this place is the definition of "hole in the wall" like its a randomly located place that really doesn't look like much but it's absolutely delicious. I even get their breakfast burritos sometimes and they are sooooo good! I vote you go for breakfast but that's just my opinion. read more

Not sure what's going on with this location, but everything is at a decline. The girl working the drive thru is rude. They have "Now Hiring" signs and I hope it's for her replacement. I used to love getting the chicharrones from here, but lately they're so gross. I don't want yesterdays chicharrones that taste and feel like they've been reheated twice over. Stufy's is delicious! I've never eaten inside, but I've been through the driveway about a dozen times and it never disappoints. They have a good variety of options. I like their chicken stuffed sopapilla the best, but I've never had bad food here. This place is difficult to drive by if I'm hungry. read more

I really used to like this place. After a couple mediocre experiences food wise (soggy sopapillas, watery weak chile) it's been a while since I've visited. I thought maybe they were just having a bad day those times so I decided to try again. After hearing 3 cars ahead of me have their order taken, it was my turn. I waited. And waited. Trying to be patient. Finally, when I all the cars in front of me had pulled around out of sight, (about 15 minutes), I decided it seemed odd that no one had come on to take my order, so I pulled around the line of sight obstructing sign, only to find that the line ahead of me was completely open. So I pulled up to the window and asked what was happening. "Our speaker doesn't work that well" I said "it would have been nice to know that 15 minutes ago - maybe you could post a sign?" The manager said "I'm sorry sir, we'll get your food for you today" I began to calm down and ordered one of almost the cheapest thing on the menu. She asked for my payment. I said "I thought you were going to get it for me today." She turned and asked her manager. Then turned back to me and again stated the price nonchalantly with her hand out. I left without my food and will never eat there again. You're MUCH better off going across the street to John Brookes for one of their heat lamp burritos, which is exactly what I did. read more

So it was my first time here the other day, didn't get much only a #3. What is in a #3? It's a stuffed sopaipilla with refried beans, rice, red chile and I added some lettuce to mine. I was forewarned about this chain, and always being out of items. And as we pulled up to the drive thru, they already stated they were out of #'s 2/4/8. Going through the drive thru was a struggle in itself. The location we went to was dated and the worker could not hear us on the other side of the intercom. We had to pull up to the window to order although our waitress was kind and apologetic, it did delay our wait on our items. So we got our order and on first look, my sopa' already looked small, as I thought I should have got two, haha. But how I was wrong, because they don't lie they are STUFFED! It was warm and tasty, minor defects would be the beans were a little over salty (it's probably out of a can). The chile was good, not the hottest but edible. Will have to explore more on the menu next time, and have not yet been inside either. read more

Usually this place is really good but today I had a little different story than the last. The man mixed up our order completely in the drive through. We asked if the Chile was vegetarian and he said yes. Then we later learned when the food came, they both visibly had meat in them. Both orders were wrong. They did not put potatoes in one of ours, did not come with Chile and the other order was supposed to have red on the side which it didn't. It also had meat which it was not supposed to have. So I'm not a snob, I like finding hole in the wall places and kitschy venues. I just don't get the love for this place. I ordered the gorilla burger and the bun simply does not accommodate the burger. It's this huge burger with watery chili slathered all over it. So the bun - which is pretty thin and meek - completely disintegrates before you can get the first bite in. I ended up having to eat a hamburger with a knife and fork. Fast, Cheap, Tasty, pick all 3.. even though we were about 30 minutes from close, our foods came out tasty and pretty warm .. (the lettuce chilled off my dad's a bit..) but mine was tasty. pretty cheap too, i think we were somewhere around $14 for our food and drinks. happy to say they do indeed have a soda water option on the fountain dispenser too! bonus! read more

No heart attack yet! haha My favorite to eat are the Taquitos (rolled tacos), which i love the following qualities: thin, fresh corn tortilla homemade; good portion of ground, seasoned beef; served with a savory salsa (tomato-e,onion-e Pureé). It wins by a nose over all the others. They are fresh so they could fall apart as you gnosh on them. I add, the corn tortilla is not factory made but the masa is thin. I ate two & it was enough - until my next Mexican food stop. I work in various locations so I'm on my feet & need to stay hydrated & not be hungry so I know all tge spots indigenous to Albuquerque & the Candaleria location is one. I prefer this location over the far NE Heights spot on Juan Tabo blvd. I get dry, hard Spanish rice at that location for some odd reason. Meanwhile back at El Rancho, I also enjoyed a side of Guacamolé & Tostadas. The chips are fried on location & the guac fresh! Some of you might not like guac mixed with lettuce. Believe you, me, I am the guy who orders everything with, "hold the lettuce!" I see red chile flecks in my guac. NM Gold! Not gonna bore you gabbing about the succulent stuffed sopas, green chilé rellenos and bombastic tamales. Strike gold with whatever touches your heart. It's sort of in the middle of nowhere in a run down area and there were a couple "interesting" customers hanging about but damn....I really liked the sopapilla stuffed with carne adovada...Pretty delicious and the lettuce and cheese and sopapilla sort of balance and take some of the heat off the red adovada sauce. There are so many other places in Albuquerque to get really good green chili burgers that are cheap. The fries tasted like the freezer and the taco ordered was maybe a teaspoon of ground beef. The beef was mixed with beans, potatoes, and who knows what else as fillers. I will not be going back here even though it's one of the few restaraunts not to far from my house. read more

The 5-stars are for the Gorilla Burger!!! It's truly a truly awesome burger and you can't beat the price. I've had several other items from the menu, and they were just OK, the Carne Adovada is pretty good to, but honestly the only thing I would ever order off the menu again is the Gorilla Burger. The location is small, the service is slow, and the the overall dining experience is not that great, but the Gorilla Burger, yes it is GREAT. I Went to the drive thru at Stufys on Sunset today , and I ordered 2 #7's 1 order of small fries and a large Coke When I Got To The drive thru window, I saw the Manager dipping the sopapillas and getting them out with her bare hands, that is gross and unsanitary, I asked to speak to her, and asked her why she is doing that, she doesn't speak any English and didn't understand anything I was saying, I got my food 2 stuffed sopapillas with Carne Adovada , got home and they were gross and soggy, I asked for my money back and she didn't want to give it to me, and the other person working there also grabbed some corn tortillas without any gloves on, I wish they would be trained to work and watch videos about sanitation, I am very unhappy about that place , I used to Love Stuffys, but not anymore, they have gone downhill, Thanks read more
