We have been to El Bruno's 2x now. The first visit for breakfast had us both raving about the size of the meal and the overall flavor. The coffee was cold and had no flavor, but a good visit. Looking forward to lunch visit next and it was not good. Salsa was too mild, the food was bland, one note and no heat what so ever. Way too expensive for what was served. Came to Bruno's for lunch. Waited at least 15 minutes for the server to come back to take our order and that was after we asked to speak with the manager. My sister comes here all the time. Every time I've come with her the food has been terrible. This is the last time she convinces me that we're going to Bruno's. It is completely overrated. The food was greasy. A live cock roach in the women's bathroom. Spilt my beer due it stuck to the table and I spilt it al over my wife. And they charged me for it! And didn't come to mop it up??Then they ran out of the beer I was drinking and charged me extra for corn tortillas cause my wife can't eat gluten. Oh, Bruno's, we used to enjoy your cozy little bar, but have probably made our last trip out there. We came out a few months ago with out of town guests and the service wasn't just bad, it was embarrassingly horrendous. We tried again this past Monday. There were only two tables seated in the bar when we arrived and one lone gentleman sitting at the bar. First, we had to wave down the bartender for a beer and asked for menus at the same time. Sadly, she never looked our way again, as she went in and out of the kitchen, socializing with the kitchen staff and stocking up for the next shift I assume. No, she wasn't slammed making drinks for servers in the restaurant as the entire place was virtually empty. After repeatedly attempting to get her attention, we finally caught up to her as she made yet another trip out of the kitchen and we asked for our check. She was clueless, or pretended to be, that we'd been waiting to order for upwards of half an hour. We paid, did not leave a tip, and went elsewhere for dinner. The host was sitting at the bar when we left and informed him that they needed to work on their service. I heard him relay the comment to the bartender, but I have idea how she responded. There are way too many great New Mexican restaurants in Albuquerque to put up with mediocre, much less bad, service! read more

Some of the best red chile I have ever consumed. Typically I don't like red chile but their signature enchiladas de Herrera blew me away.

I've eaten at two of these and multiple times at this one. I've only had the fiesta platter but I can certainly recommend it. Great deal and certainly feeds two. Take a date and enjoy a good variety with this one. read more

I'm giving El Bruno three stars since I have had a decent experience here before. If this review was only focused on today i'd give it one star. The hostess had a sour attitude and was curt and obviously annoyed to be dealing with customers. Our waiter seemed super new and disappeared for most of the time we were here. Our drinks were pretty empty until a waiter from another section gave us a refill. Our fajitas were the saddest example I have ever seen. Nothing was really cooked and it was 60% green bell pepper. Ugh! Don't let the one star deceive you. My editing is actually a ZERO! Terrible from start to finish. After being out of town/state for several days, we were craving some good New Mexican food. So off to Bruno's we go. The hostess, who played with her hair (think that's a no-no for anyone in a restaurant), wasn't welcoming. Then after waiting 20 minutes to get acknowledged by an overwhelmed waitress, we were asked whether we still wanted to order food because it was going to take a long time. To top the evening off, a cockroach was crawling along the wall near us. The waitress asks if we had seen it, and that she would tell the manager. Out comes a young man armed with a set of napkins to squash it. Yuck! We will never ever return to this restaurant. For our wait and unsightly image of cockroaches in a restaurant, one would think the manager would comp the meal or simply an entree or drink. You've been warned. read more

I have eaten here (4th street location) a few times and the food is defiantly not consistent. Still, a friend wanted to try them so I said ok. We both had the fish tacos and they were pretty good. My complaint comes from our server. When he would fill up our water glass he would reach his entire body over the table and our food instead of letting us hand him the glass to fill. That is basic server no no 101! Then when he brought some sopa's he put the honey bottle in the basket, on top of the sopa's. The bottle was nasty and sticky with honey, and we could see actual fingerprints on the bottle from past users. Who know what sorts of disease was on that bottle. I was pretty disgusted. Maybe some server training is in order El Bruno? read more

I have always heard good things about El Bruno's of Cuba, NM so when I heard there was a location here in town I had to try it out. We had the shrimp tacos and enchiladas. Everything was very fresh and tasty! I often do not like to eat Mexican food as it can be rather greasy and loaded with salt. I did not find that to be the case with El Bruno; bonus, no heartburn. El Bruno's is a little more expensive than the other Mexican restaurants but having fresh ingredients is worth it. Enjoy! read more

I had dinner here last night. This is the old Gardunos. The service was good and everyone was nice. I had the brisket enchiladas. The brisket itself was flavored very well. The corn tortillas were a little mushy, probably from soaking up the red chile. I've been to other places that do nothing but cook their brisket without spices. My wife had the stuffed sopapilla, which she raved about. The red chile was okay. I will more than likely go back. read more

I like this place because it is conveniently located, and the food isn't bad. I usually get a margarita, which is pretty good, and some tacos. I tried the tamales once, they were so-so. GREAT GUAC!! They do make their guacamole in front of you, which is cool and tastes great! read more

Today's visit to El Brunos provided an excellent meal. The salsa was tasty without being excessively hot. The chimichanga was excellent. Not over fried like so many other restaurants. However at almost every turn the sever made mistakes. She was unclear of what I ordered and had to return to verify. My wife ordered the trout dinner and was instead served the Hazel special. When the trout did arrive the potato was cold. Probably the same one from the Hazel dish. When the bill was adjusted the wrong item was removed and was billed for the more expensive Hazel dish. I will return but do hope I get a more competent server. read more

I like to take guests here. It is not the nicest appointed dining, but the service is good, friendly, and food is always as promised. Drinks are done well too. It is the only restaurant I frequent that also has a ladies attire booth inside, probably a product of the owner's handiwork, not sure. There are tops and such with hand-applied spangles. Kinda kitch for a restaurant, but I like the family touch. Enjoy the tableside guacamole. read more

We ate lunch at El Bruno's today. We were very impressed with the remodel on the business that formerly occupied the spot. El Bruno's is really beautiful. It has a kind of Spanish/Moorish look to it and different rooms have different feels to them. The room we ate in was sunny and golden. Other rooms had understated lighting. Our meals were very good, with the pork in red chile being especially flavorful. Margaritas were very good as well, served in tall glasses with blue rims. Lunch for two came to about $40, which we thought was very reasonable for the good food, great service, and enjoyable visit. read more

My 'mother, sister and I visited El Bruno's recently. Bad move! We made the mistake of going around 1:30pm. The atmosphere is dark, 70's style decor, dark,dreary.We sat by the loud kitchen, real nice. My sister and I ordered stuffed sopapillas, second mistake. The sopapillas had been refried for sure. Everything seemed old, dried out and over priced. The only thing pleasant was our kind waitress. Lived here my whole life, way too many excellent New Mexican food restaurants, skip this one. On top of a terrible lunch I had a bout of food poisoning that lasted two days that began after this meal. read more

Horrible tasting food!!! I got the taquito plate and they came in a bowl filled with pinto beans. A taquito soaked in beans!! They came all soggy. We visited El Bruno's on 4th street in the old Garduno original location tonight. Ten adults and two children. We had reservations for 7:30, and our table was not available until 8:00. When we were finally seated, it was in a small cramped area by the kitchen door . We had met there beginning at 6:30 to make sure we were all there at 7:30, so my husband and I were there three hours before we were seated, served, and finished. The bar was to small, and the two bartenders and one bar back had difficulty keeping everyone served. The margaritas were over priced at $8.00, nothing special about them. The food was O.K., , not great, but the servings were small considering the price of $12.00 for chicken enchiladas, and $14.00 for chili rellenos. The beans, rice and papitas were so bland, they tasted like they came out of a can. We were disappointed, but maybe part of it was because we were wishing for our old Garduno's the way it use to be in the old days before they got too big, and ruined their business. I was suprised they did not have any happy hour prices which would have been nice with the long wait for the tables. Not much of a selection of draft beer and $4.25 for regular beer, a little high for a resturaunt of this type. read more

My husband and I were passing through Albuquerque for the night and was attempting to eat at another restaurant that was having difficulty getting out their orders. A local resident suggested we take the extra drive to El Bruno. We are so glad we took her advice. Our meals were some of the best Mexican food we've had. The waiter was great.
