Everyone was dressed up, the vibes were amazing, and the food was delicious from start to finish. The pan dulce was so soft and fresh that it honestly tasted homemade. My main course was flavorful, and the free dessert was such a nice touch. I was genuinely in awe of this place. They also had live music starting around 11 AM, and the way they celebrated birthdays made the experience feel even more special and lively. I was told I NEED to come back and try the seafood, so that's definitely happening on my next visit. Since they recently opened, expect it to be very busy. I went around 10 AM on a Tuesday morning and it was already packed. Parking in the area is pretty tight and not the greatest, but honestly, if you can make your way down there, do it. I had such a great experience that I'm already thinking about booking my mom's birthday here. Definitely recommend for the vibes, music, and overall experience.

I was honestly shocked at how much decoration and time was put into creating the atmosphere for it. It was truly beautiful inside, giving an image of an old Mexican saloon. I ordered the following below: *compadres chilaquiles = 4/5 - It came with both rojo (red) & verde (green) sauces. In addition it came with chicken, beef, beans, and potatoes. This dish alone was very fulfilling ! The only complaint i have with it was the verde sauce was very acidic and sour. Now i typically like that but man i was making faces with how sour it was. *Huevos Rancheros = 4/5 -This dish was also very amazing. The sauce was amazing, it was also fulfilling. *Birria Tacos = 4/5 - The birria was soft and flavorful. I do like how it comes with a cup of consome. The tortillas were corn and I do wish they were a little better quality. *Agua Fresca Horchata = 5/5 - I am not gunna lie I did love the horchata. And I mean cmon now look at the size of the mug it comes in ! Everything was perfect, the right amount of cinnamon, the sweetness , it was so good ! I would say they need to ease up on the ice a bit. Some important things to note is they do advertise free conchas and desserts. I really wanted to try the conchas but that is only available before 12pm. Anything after that is desserts and can vary. We had a slice of carrot cake and pastry. Please note these are free and that is a great addition to the dine in experience. I would've given this place 5 stars, but man the service was just not there. Now i typically give respect to servers because I get it , it could be busy, they may be tired and are just trying to get by the day but many times our server skipped us over to attend to other tables. He would just stare at us, walk by and wouldn't make sure if we needed some more drink refills or any additional salsa or sauces. There was a free complimentary chips , but no salsa in which we asked nicely multiple times. There were no forks at the table and asked multiple servers and were completely ignored and denied. In addition it felt neglectful that our server would literally stare at us while i was trying to ask politely to have some accommodations met. Overall the food is great, the quality and quantity of food is exceptional. The service does need some refinement. I will be coming back here again, but hopefully i get a better experience next time.

I'm really glad we did because the food was so good that we actually came back two days in a row -- which should tell you a lot about how delicious it was. We tried a few different items, including several types of tostadas and their shrimp cocktail. Every single item we ordered was full of flavor and tasted fresh. If there's one thing I highly recommend, it's the Chula Vista Tostada -- that was easily one of my favorites. The service was good and the wait for the food wasn't long at all. We went once on Saturday and again on Sunday. The lines were pretty small when we arrived, but it definitely picked up afterward. To anyone reading this review, don't let the negative reviews stop you from trying this place. Sometimes the best way to know is to try it for yourself. Trust me when I say the seafood here is worth it -- you won't be disappointed.

I had basically given up on finding a bomb fish taco spot until a friend recommended this place, and now I'm hooked. You definitely gotta try it! The portions are a good size, and honestly, you can't go wrong. Also, the camaron tostadas are straight fire. You can chill and eat at the tables or take it to go. Service is always fast and friendly, making it an easy favorite.

El Prieto (Main St, San Diego) Rating: 2.5 / 5 Stars…read more I really wanted to enjoy my visit to El Prieto, but unfortunately, the experience was a series of "almosts" that didn't quite land. Here is the breakdown of my recent meal: The Food The kitchen missed the mark on a few basics. My bistec ranchero was underwhelming; the sauce was overly "tomatoey," lacking the deep, savory complexity or spice you expect from a solid ranchero. To make matters worse, the rice served on the side was noticeably cold, which is always a disappointment. The Drinks The beverage situation was equally frustrating. I was surprised to find that the bar offers no wine options at all. I decided to pivot to an Arnold Palmer, which ended up being the worst version of the drink I've ever had--the proportions were completely off. Service & Atmosphere The service felt lacking throughout the night, with very little attention paid to the table. Most off-putting, however, is the policy stated on the menu: a 45-minute window to eat. It's hard to relax and enjoy a meal when you feel like you're being timed by the staff. Verdict Between the cold sides, a limited bar, and the rushed atmosphere created by the time limit, I can't say I'd be in a hurry to return. There are too many great spots in San Diego to settle for a 45-minute countdown.

Unfortunately, this visit was completely different and extremely disappointing. Our waitress, Yesenia, provided very poor customer service from the beginning. She was rude, inattentive, and made us feel unwelcome. Some guests requested water and never received it. Our food did not come out at the same time, and several dishes were cold when served. I also specifically ordered hard shell tacos and instead received soft tacos. One thing we did enjoy was the shrimp cocktail, which was delicious. However, two people ordered it at the beginning of the meal, and only one received it on time. The other person did not receive their shrimp cocktail until about 15 minutes after everyone else had already received and started eating their meals. That delay made the dining experience even more frustrating. What made the situation even more upsetting was how mistakes were handled. One of my friends mentioned to Yesenia in Spanish that the service had not been good, but there was no apology or attempt to improve the situation. Later, while packing up uneaten food to-go, she dropped the food all over the floor and did not apologize or offer to replace it. I also spoke directly with the manager about our concerns. At first, he did not seem to understand me, even when I spoke in Spanish. Eventually he understood, but unfortunately there was still no apology, concern, or effort made to correct the situation. To make matters worse, our bill was approximately $172, and a tip of $24 was added despite the extremely poor service we received. It was embarrassing to bring my family to a restaurant I had spoken so highly about, only to have such a terrible experience. The service was absolutely horrible, and based on this visit, I would not recommend this restaurant.

This place named itself "sushi bar," but it also says it's an authentic Mexican seafood restaurant?…read moreThat feels like an identity crisis lol. I was given chips, salsa, and an appetizer soup thing in a cup. The chips were fine. I thought the soup was alright. I didn't like the salsa as I found it too watery and lacking in flavor, more like a hot sauce than a salsa. I ordered two hand rolls, a spicy tuna roll and a salmon skin roll. I thought they were good. I found the salmon skin too crispy and deep fried for my preference, but it was still good. Finally, I realized that not only do I never eat authentic Mexican seafood, I'm not even sure what that entails. So I dug through the menu and saw something called "Don Tono," described as stuffed with seafood, but without much other explanation. I asked the waitress what this Don Tono is exactly, and to my surprise, she wasn't sure either. So, of course I had to order it. It was a big thing of aluminum foil with goodies inside, kinda like a seafood bake. It was good, although I found the flavor to be a undertuned. I would've liked some Cajun seasoning. The best texture and taste was probably the fish itself as it was light and flaky without being mushy, and it absorbed the umami of some of the other seafood. I thought the shrimp and shellfish were just okay, and maybe just a tad overcooked for me. Honestly, I was also not a huge fan of the cheese here; I feel like it doesn't quite fit. I also got some rice and salad with it, which were both fine.
